Ordered takeout from here a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. The portions were generous which is always appreciated nowadays with inflation in prices everywhere. I ordered chicken pad thai and massaman curry with chicken. The pad thai seemed heavy on the lime and the noodles were slightly overcooked which can happen with takeout, but was very flavorful overall. The only thing that was a bit of a bummer was that the chicken was incredibly dry. Usually I don't mind it on the dryer side because I'd rather have dry chicken than undercooked, but this was a tad too dry for me. The massaman curry was very flavorful as well. Not too spicy, not too sweet. The veggies were cooked well throughout and I think the moisture from the curry helped the dry chicken with this dish. The flavor was there for sure. I'd order again, but maybe dine in is a better option. read more

This is our favorite Thai spot in the area! Great for an intimate meal in the restaurant, or as an excellent take out option. We have been coming here for years and the couple who run the place are always friendly, attentive, and always deliver consistently fabulous Thai food. Our go to menu items are the coconut soup (equally great with chicken or tofu), the crispy (spring) rolls, and for entrees - Pad See Ew (wide noodles) and Massaman Curry with shrimp. Dined here last week for dinner with a good friend and his parents. They love this place and I love thai, so I was excited to be going. It's a small restaurant, so I would advise calling ahead for a reservation if your heart is set on thai. It's also BYOB, so bring a bottle or 2 if you plan on imbibing. The menu is your standard thai options. Because I'm lame, I went with my usual red thai curry. The portion was plentiful and I even had leftovers to bring home. My friends mom ordered the duck and it looked very crispy. If you enjoy very spicy food, they can make it as spicy as you want. My friend was sweating from his dish, which is what he was aiming for. We had Siam Noodle (very much like Pad Thai) & Drunken Noodle. Vegetarians & Vegans take note: while it's listed in the vegetarian section of the menu, there seems to be a fish sauce in the Siam (that's how it tastes). It's best to inquire if you prefer to avoid animal ingredients! The Drunken Noodle meal is quite spicy, though the menu doesn't say so (maybe I'm a bit of a wuss with spice, but it's pretty darn powerful). Everything was cooked & presented well & the environment (while a bit cramped) is pleasant enough. However, my friend found unpleasant roach traps and dead roaches in the women's restroom (the men's was ok). Since she's the person i'm likely to be with when in the area of this restaurant, it seems i wont be returning (she doesn't want to). i'm torn about this experience. the minuses are: roaches "unlabeled" spicy meal fish sauce in vegetarian-listed meal the pluses: good spring rolls (crispy, flakey yummyness) good Thai iced tea (a perfectly socially-acceptable addiction) generally friendly & pleasant environment decent price maybe we could have eaten different meals and been ok with the place. i hope this review is fair. read more

This is a TINY place! If you come here with at least four people, make reservations. Whenever I'm here, service is fast, helpful, and never surly. Their lunch special (about $8) isn't a bad deal, and you get a soup, appetizer, and entree. So far, I've had the: - chicken coconut soup, with slices of chicken breast in coconut milk with galangal, lime leaves, mushrooms, and lime juice. The chicken was slightly dry, but the broth was soothing and not spicy. - their tom yum (soup) has a little tang. - satay chicken (appetizer), skewered, marinated in spices and coconut milk, grilled, with a peanut sauce and a small cucumber salad. Pleasant and tasty. - the som-tum (appetizer) isn't bad, but I need to stop ordering it since I get it so much! - drunken noodles (entree), stir-fried with chicken, basil, and spices. - "bold and spicy" (entree), beef sauteed with lemon grass, basil, mushroom, and green beans with chili peppers, pepper corns and herbs. Not terribly spicy, but filled me up. My luck is less-than-stellar when I attempt to order their dishes as four-alarm fires. Thai orchid is a little tiny restaurant in a strip mall in Berwynn. The Decour is nothing to write home about but, the food has always been delicious. The tofu is crispy and airy at the same time. Try the mesiman curry if you can get away from the delicious pad Thai. Today the lunch crowd was ample, therefor the service incredibly slow. The Soups were not exactly filled to the brim but still delicious. I got the feeling they were saving soup for the other customers. Along time ago this restaurant was named panden leaf and had lovely owners... The panden leaf ice cream was to die for. As I was walking out, a little girl was eating something that looks like it could be this ice cream, if you see it on the menu get it... It is really unique recommend it highly. read more

Wow, my dinner was fantastic. I had the pineapple fried rice and it came in an actual pineapple!! My two friends had the duck (loved it) and the pad Thai (their only complaint was that it came with more shrimp than chicken). We had the sampler for an appetizer. Our waiter didn't tell us what anything was, so I didn't know what I was eating. But everything on the plate was very good! It is also a BYOB. My only complaint about the place is from what I could tell they didn't have heat. They did have a few space heaters and the restaurant is small so it wasn't uncomfortable, but is sat by the window which was a bit chilly. read more

This is one of the first restaurants we visited when we moved here 9 years ago and we keep going back regularly. There are many vegetarian options and they are all delicious. It is the only restaurant where I order the same thing every time we visit, Jungle to Jungle (veggie version of Evil Jungle Princess). I do that not because I didn't thoroughly enjoy the other ones on the menu, but because it is my favorite Thai dish I have had. Wow. I've eaten at a lot of Thai places in my day, and this one stands up (food-wise) against all of them. It's a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in a strip shopping center, but MAN, can they cook. I had the (weird!) Ravioli soup (which was basically like Wonton soup, in a Thai broth) and the Thai Basil Chicken dish. The soup was pretty good (nothing to go crazy about), but the Thai Basil Chicken was OUTSTANDING. The flavors were right... the spice was right... the portion size was perfect. Heck, they even had a little carrot-carved "dragon" on the plate as decor. SOLID. My buddy had the coconut soup and the Pad See You (I think that was it -- it may have been the Pad Woon Sen -- neither of which are on the online menu), and he said it was amazing. He even said there was a point where he thought he was full, but decided to keep going because it tasted so good. The service was almost non-existent, which was surprising because there were only 4 tables served the entire time we were there (including us). A bit of a bummer there. So... Food: 5-star. No question. Ambiance/location: 3-star (tiny location in a non-descript strip mall, but the decorations inside were nice). Service: 2-star. If she even said Hi at some point through the meal, this would be a 3. Price: 3-star. A tad pricey for Thai food ($13-24 entrees), but nothing terrible.. This one is tough. I would normally give this a 3-star because of all of the shortcomings of the place... but the food is SO good, that it pulls this up to a 4-star. I will definitely return (if I'm back in this area). BYOB (there's a wine store a few yards away in the same little strip mall if you forget to bring a bottle). I've been here several times and the food is always great. The drunken noodle is very good and so is the Evil Jungle Princess. I wish the Pad Thai came with more shrimp, as it's a lot of noodles, but it's still some of the best pad Thai I've had. Got to the restaurant only found them closed until next week for vacation. The worst thing is they already charge my credit card. I have to call online service to refund my money. Went out for dinner with friends who picked this place. It was empty when we arrived and I was debating going to Vee Koo which is in the same strip mall, but I didn't want to insult our friends who wanted Thai. We have been here in the past and it really is non descript. We were greeted and seated and got our water. The waitress started out being attentive and then just sort of disappeared in the kitchen towards the end of the meal. There was another person who was associated with the restaurant, but I have no idea in what capacity. He played games on his Iphone the entire time we were eating at the table next to us. I had the pad Thai and my husband the pad se yew. We will probably have to throw out the leftover pad Thai I took home, I'm not sure it was worth bringing it home. The pad se yew was at least tastier, or perhaps just salty. The sample appetizers were nothing to write home about. With all the other restaurants in the neighborhood I'm sure you can find somewhere else to dine. Just FYI, this is a bring your own bottle establishment. read more

When I worked in the area this was a regular spot...as noted, the dining room is SMALL, but the food is great, and unless the prices have gone up, very reasonably priced. The lunch special (soup/app/entree) would allow you to get a different taste every time, and would leave you satisfied but not in need of a nap afterwards. Everything always tasted fresh, and the different courses were always timed very well. Spice-wise it was mixed (as noted, again)...it seemed to depend on who was working that day. It was never done to any extreme level, but every once in a while would leave a nice little burn on the lips. I sometimes miss this place, though I can't say I will go out of my way to get back to it...it had its place in time, and for that I am thankful. read more

I went to this Thai restaurant this past Saturday despite no Yelp rating. My father had recommended it to me knowing how much I love Thai Food. Unfortunately I don't have pictures..but let's get to the meat of the review! The food tasted great. My father had the fresh fish of the day, which was a red snapper. It tasted delicious, and it was the most expensive thing on the menu at 28 dollars. My mom had the typical PAD Thai at 13 dollars, and I had some type of Masman Curry dish for about 15. As you can see, the prices are pretty reasonable. This is also a BYOB restaurant, and it is strategically located directly next to a wine and spirits, so grab a bottle of something before you go in. The owner was working, and took the time to get to know us better. Everyone was extremely courteous and a pleasure to be around. I will definitely come back again. We also had fried ice cream which was home made by the owner. Again, very very delicious. Reservations are probably recommended. The restaurant is small, but it all depends on when you go. read more

There are multiple choices within the categories that include the most popular dishes. The pad thai is pretty good, although very soupy. The curries are very good. I had the lunch special today, which is a soup, appetizer and entree for around ten bucks. I selected the lemongrass soup, the Thai dumplings and the red curry. Although tame on the spice, the food is otherwise tasty. The reason I'm marking Thai Orchid down is that the dining room is just plain dirty.the windows in the vestibule are covered in fingerprints, there are black marks around the light switches in the back and there are smears or grease on the window set into the kitchen door. I had been craving Thai food and found this place near my office on Yelp and used the online ordering option. I have recently changed my name and have not yet changed my secondary accounts yet, so opted to pay cash. When I got there, I realized I did not have much cash on me, and saw that they accepted credit cards on the door when I walked through. I was the only person picking up and there were not many people [I think only 2 on a Friday at 12:30] in the restaurant. i asked the girl if I could pay with my card and she said but you said you would pay with cash. I started to explain I didn't realize I didn't have that much cash when I ordered and confirmed with her that yes, they do take credit cards - but she was sort of whining. I gave her the cash and left. I understand there are fees associated with cards - but if you give the option, you should be flexible. The food I had was pretty good, but will probably not go back there based on how they handled the transaction. I've had several lunches at Thai Orchid. A very cozy, unassuming place with what it seems, very personal service. I've been waited on by the same hostess/waitress each time. Nothing too hasty here, service is spot on and accurate. Each and every curry dish I've tried here is delicious. Portions are adequate. For the prices, I wouldn't mind a little more. I've tried both the chicken and beef curries. I could easily hand out a four star review here if just a little more intrigue with the dishes or the soup. Small fifty seat restaurant in a strip center. It would be tight in there at full capacity but at lunch recently it was quiet. Enjoyed the lunch special for about $11: choice of appetizer, soup and entree. The crispy spring rolls (2) were very good. The lemongrass soup was spicy and tasty. For the entree I chose the Thai ginger with chicken. It was good, perhaps a little light on the chicken - I would have skipped the peanuts in the dish and added a bit more chicken for bulk up the protein, but it was very good. I just came back from dinner with my neighbor and friends. I tried the fish of the day- red snapper which was fried with red curry. It was done in the style that I expected (huge dish with the whole fish from head to tail) and it was delicious. My friends had the noodle dishes which they said were good. Everything I get from here is delicious! My favorite dish from them is pad se yew. It's sweet and slightly salty. They make it the best. I get it with beef and usually ask them to keep the carrot slices and cabbage, but take out the broccoli. I also love that they have thai tea and their pad thai is also pretty good, though, not as good as the pad se yew and not the best pad thai I've ever had. I also really enjoy their spring rolls and fried tofu dipped in sweet and sour sauce. I've also tried their chicken eggplant dish which is mildly spicy, but really tasty. Aside from the food, which I would say on its own is 5 stars, the restaurant is in a cheap strip mall and the interior is cramped. The servers aren't very attentive and the food is overpriced. I guess, I like that there is ample parking so the "cheap strip mall" issue isn't that bad... And there isn't much they can do about their current space. It's small. But what bothers me is the servers and the price. For the above reasons, I would say that the restaurant is a solid 3 star place, but could easily get up to 5 stars with properly training the servers and adjusting the price. I mean seriously, it's just tofu and noodles, there's no way a bill should be able to reach $60.* $60 - $17x 2 = $32 -- pad se yew (w/ beef) - $15 = eggplant dish (w/ chicken) - $7 = spring rolls - $3 something = 6% taxes - $0 = fried tofu appetizer + side of white rice I guess with the breakdown, it doesn't seem that bad, but for noodles... I dunno... I guess, for a special occasion... But how special is take out? Can't eat there... Meh... Maybe, I will just stick with the $8 lunch special... read more
