Let me start by saying that the food is above average here. It is very tasty and they give generous portion sizes. That is the extent of what i can say in a positive light about this place. I have never in my life boycotted a restaurant or felt compelled to write a review (positive or negative). I even signed up for Yelp knowing that I will likely get spammed with emails just to let my voice be heard. Now for the bad... The service is abominable! My family and I literally waited over 30 minutes between visits from our server. We wanted more drinks and to add to our order, but that simply wasn't possible. Eventually, we gave up on that idea and we just wanted to pay our bill. I had to walk around the restaurant to find our server and tap her on the shoulder so that she could remeber that we even existed. The craziest part is that the restaurant was almost empty and our server maybe had three other tables. Completely unaccpetable! The kicker is that the server never brough my dad's Amex back and we realized it when we were about 150 miles away. Our server was about 14 years old and had the customer service skills of a computer engineer. I think they only hire their own family here, but they either need to have a bigger family to choose from or put their family members through some rigurous training regime so that they understand what service is. When we went to pick the card up, we didn't get so much as an apology. Oh yea, and the parking lot is pretty good if you drive a Smart car. Otherwise, you need to do a 7 point turn just to get out of your parking spot. In conclusion, if you want to have a three hour meal and be left alone while you enjoy your slightly better than mediocre food and go back to your car with two new door dings, then this is the place for you. read more

Thai Basil is definitely good, but I wasn't wowed by it. The spring rolls were really nice, and my red curry was good and had a lot of not overcooked veggies in it. Decor was nice, open and modern, service was ok except for bringing out one of our party's dishes noticeably later than everyone else's. So everything was good, but not mind-blowing. Menu was standard Thai fare. All in all a solid Thai restaurant indistinguishable from every other good Thai restaurant, but definitely worth a visit if you're stuck, like I was, in Lake Oswego. read more

This restaurant has nice decor, is spacious and has pretty quick and friendly service. They always kept my water glass full, which is a must. I want to give it 4 stars, but one of our dishes (the Yellow Curry with Tofu) had nice flavor, but incredibly overcooked vegetables. The potatoes and carrots were so overcooked, they fell apart immediately when I stuck my fork in. There's no nutritional value left in a vegetable once it gets to that point. I ordered the Spicy Basil stir-fry which was true to its word. It was hella spicy and pretty good. It seemed to not be particularly fresh, though. They also charged $1.50 for additional rice, which I thought was odd. I have never been charged before in any kind of restaurant. I think this is probably the best restaurant in the immediate area. There is an Olive Garden across the street that, while it might sound appetizing, is really unhealthy and completely mass-produced. At least this place has an authentic feel and is friendly. Thai Basil has some pretty great Thai food. I've been to a few Thai restaurants in my time, and this one is near the top. The interior is nicely designed, and it doesn't feel like you're just eating at a cheap asian food place. They never seem to be packed, and whenever we pick up take out the wait is quite reasonable. The only downside in my opinion is the price. It seems to be slightly over-priced for what it is, but the food really is great, and the location is very close. read more

Easy on the spice! We love Thai food, and I like a bit of spice. However, when you have little ones or guests with aversion to spice, you like to think a kitchen will honor your request for mild. Guess again at Thai Basil! They went two for two with making dishes too spicy for us. What a bummer too! These are basic requests, like leaving bacon out of a vegetarian's tomato sandwich. I l-o-v-e Thai Basil. Excellent food all the time. The dish I order most often (twice weekly in the summer) is Drunken Noodle with Chicken. In Thai, it's Pad Ki Mao ko kai pum. The pot stickers were amazing! The chicken pad Thai was amazingly fresh! The servers were upbeat, friendly, funny and engaging. The place was clean and the napkins were funny folded. A nice retreat for the husband and I. Only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars was due to the soup. I got the Tom Kha and the husband got Tom Yum. Tom Kha soup here was simply a coconut soup. All Thai places I've ever had Tom Kha has been a spicy coconut soup.... here it was not. Everything was salty. SUPER salty. We got a pad kee mao with pork (I think they called it drunken noodles here), a cashew chicken, and a beef salad, and even the salad was salty. HOW? I know, part of it is because I prefer food that's not over seasoned because I like to taste the ingredients instead of the sauces, but this one was over-the-top salty. Pad kee mao/drunken noodles had more veggies and meat than noodles, which theoretically would be a good deal but the portion was pretty small compared to other Thai restaurants. I wished there would be more noodles (but not decreasing the amount of meat & veggies) for me to enjoy... because I am a carb fiend. Cashew chicken was very saucy... I had trouble consuming it because my tongue was numbed by all the salt. Beef salad was a little better because there was some acidity in it to cleanse my palate... but over all the entire meal was packed with salt. I finally got around to checking out the new neighborhood Thai joint. The decor is very modern and a lot of thought went into the decorating. The service was very friendly and attentive as is expected at most Thai restaurants. I don't know why that is, but the Thai people are a very friendly group, there are exceptions to that rule though. I got one of my regular Thai dishes, Drunken Noodles, which is sometimes called Pad Kee Mao . It was okay, not spectacular, but okay. I always like to have my noodles with steamed rice because they are usually so greasy and so I got the rice too. Their spice tray was 1/3rd better than most Thai restaurants though, in that they had the powdered hot chili pepper in addition to the fish sauce peppers and red chili paste. I'm going to try the Red and Green Curries next time. Pad Thai Alert! Have you ever had a Pad Thai Dish that wasn't sweet? Well truck on down to Thai Basil then and get you some savory garlic laden Pad Thai, or what I come to think of as Wrong Pad Thai. Staying at the Marriott just down the road, Thai Basil was an easy pick. We walked over after a LONG day of driving, and were treated to some very good Thai. I had Tom Kha Gai, coconut soup. It was very creamy, almost too creamy, but the flavor was very good. It could have used a few more Kaffir lime leaves, but it was chock-full of veggies, all of which were fresh and not overcooked. The bf had green curry, which was excellent, though it could have been much spicier. The server didn't ask how hot he wanted it, and you never know, so I guess we should have inquired what to expect.
