As soon as I got to my friend's house, we realized that they forgot to give us the brown rice for our curry. I would've let it go, but we paid extra for it. When I called, the host asked if I could come back for it. Not a big deal since it was only five minutes away. When I got there, the host didn't even apologize for forgetting the rice. The #40 Red Curry and the #33 Pad Eggplant were so bland, I'm certain there was no fish sauce, because adding fish sauce to the entrees at home vastly improved their flavor. The #10 Calamry (their spelling), described as "tempura calamari" were certainly deep fried in batter, but not what I'd consider tempura batter. Also, it was flavorless. The Mango & Sweet Sticky Rice was good; the mango was juicy and ripe. I also submitted this review on DoorDash, where I made the order, but it has not shown up there. My husband and I had dinner at Ploy's Thai last night and shortly after we left and were driving back home we both got sick. The only thing we ate that was the same was the Fried Shrimp appetizer. I called the restaurant today to let them know what had happened and the person who answered the phone told me they had served several people shrimp that night and no one else had let them know they had gotten sick. Really good veggie spring rolls.. hot and crispy. Loved the fresh shrimp salad rolls. I got it to go so didn't have a chance to check out the interior. Ploy's is my Son's favorite neighborhood Thai restaurant. We stopped in the other night, and while I was surprised that they don't serve alcohol, I was very pleased with the food and service. Our booth was also comfortable and roomy. David had his "usual" crab fried rice, while my Massaman Curry dish (with rice) was declivous. Both our portions were generous, with David's even more "take home" so. Water was just fine with my dish (which I should have ordered spicier), while David enjoyed his Thai Iced Tea. Ploy's is the closest restaurant to my new home, so I had to give it a try. The food is excellent - especially the seafood version of Pad Eggplant. They offer Seafood as an alternative protein on many dishes and it includes scallops, large shrimp, mussels and calamari. More expensive, but totally worth it. I have been back several times and always enjoyed the food. I have never seen the same server twice, but they are always good. The restaurant is comfortable and always clean. I like to have a glass of wine with dinner, so be warned, they do not serve alcohol at all. Fine for me for lunch and if you really want spicy Thai and a beer, get the food to go for dinner. I was surprised to eat pretty good Thai food when visiting my BIL. We ordered a bunch of stuff for our family/party of 8 and shared everything family style. Appetizers: fried calamari, chicken satay, fresh veggie rolls, papaya salad - were all delicious and perfect balance between fried apps and fresh veg. We ordered a bunch of classics: crab fried rice, pad see ew which were all spot on. And for something special we got the Chu Chee Jumbo Prawn ($17). We also liked the Thai iced teas too, it wasn't too sweet so we could taste the spices in the tea. Plus it was at a great price ($3)! Stopped by here for some lunch and I ordered the pad eggplant with chicken which also came with a side of rice. In addition to eggplant, the dish came with onions, bell peppers, Thai basil, with a sweet chili sauce. You can pick your choice of protein as well, I choose the chicken. This dish was the perfect accompaniment with rice where you can put the sauce on top of the rice and place it with some chicken and the veggies from the dish. They have the classic thai dishes and they have a sign that also tells you of any specials they are offering. I've been a semi-regular for both dine-in and take-out for about 6 years. Food is consistently good and staff have always been friendly. Like any restaurant, there have been a few occasions where mistakes were made but they've always been sure to make it right. I especially appreciate that the spice level is consistent. Ordered carry out for lunch today for 4 people, just over $40 when I added in the sticky rice. This place is located in the new Trader Joe's & Ace Hardware strip mall, so you can get in some shopping before/after dining. Good access and parking. The person who took my order over the phone spoke excellent English, and managed through my butchering of the thai entree names. My carry out was ready in about 20 minutes from the time I called it in. They have a nice selection of lunch specials - slightly smaller portions, but nice variety of entrees. I had the green beans and peppers with squid. It had just a slight amount of heat to it, I didn't even break out in a sweat. The pad thai portion was very good sized, good thing it was a planned split dish between 2 people. My wife had the eggplant, which she declared excellent. So nice to get a meal with so many veggies! I was tempted by the mango sticky rice on the sign when I went in for the pickup, and was not disappointed. The sticky rice was nice and sweet, and the mango was perfectly ripe. Worth every cent! It's hard to find Halal food in Portland that's not Gyros or Shawarma, so imagine my my ECSTATIC response to discovering a Halal option for Thai food (my top 3 favorite cuisines). The "Drunken Noodle with Beef" was one of the best I've had. Every bite was Wok seared, and the ingredients were very fresh (the cherry tomatoes bursting in my mouth was my favorite part). The slices of beef were cut just right and they were the perfect partner for the thick rice noodles. We substituted "Curry Puffs" into our "Super Appetizer Combo". It's absolutely the way to go so you can try all their fun offerings. Their peanut sauce is bomb. I know it's supposed to be for just the Fresh Spring Roll, but we ended up dipping everything in it Ploy's Thai Food isn't just a great Halal Thai option, it's a great Thai option PERIOD. I've been to other parts of the country where they have to settle for mediocre Thai food because it's the only Halal option, but I'm happy to say that Ploy's serves up Thai food that I'd pick over many of the Thai spots in Portland (and that's saying something, because we've got a lot of amazing ones). The amount of meat that is included in their dishes is so ridiculously small, that it's actually an insult. Maybe they are struggling financially, so they feel like they need to cheap out on the ingredients and hope that their clientele won't notice.
