The decor is okay but the food was great. I ordered just the green curry Hot and it was. This is a proper Thai restaurant so I recommend Medium unless you can take it. The curry looked more yellow than green but it was very flavorful. The sushi is pretty decent. The ginger salad is the best I've had anywhere. Service is fine but the staff seems very indifferent. Not at all friendly. Almost like it's a hassle for them to have to wait on you. Got carry out for the family recently. We ordered 2 hot noodle dishes and 2 medium curry dishes. Hot is usually barely enough for my husband and daughters, and I prefer medium. Holy crap! The medium blew us all away. We had to throw away the hot dishes after a few bites. Don't know if it was just a heavy-handed chef, or if it's always like this. We love Thai food, have had it at many many other restaurants. This was ridiculous! We tried this place again a few weeks back since I saw my previous review and knew we liked it. Well, not this time. My husband got the Thai Fried Rice that he always gets with chicken, medium. This time it was a little to spicy and bland at the same time if that makes sense. It seemed like they only added chili pepper to rice and veggies then topped it with chicken. Where was the soy sauce, ginger.........I don't know, but we could not taste it. I also tried the curry noodle and it was very odd. It arrived with egg noodles, not rice noodles which was weird for me. Also, they packed the tofu and the curry sauce separately so the noodles did not even soak up some of the sauce and the flavor before I sat down to eat them. So I had literally cold ramen with veggies soup that had noooo flavor. They were generous with the tofu so I at least had that to eat. Will not be getting that dish again. Overall, I am not sure what happened, maybe an off day?? I hope so or we wont be back anytime soon!! read more

I really want to like this place, we dined for lunch ordered Pad Thai 8.95 California roll and spicy tuna for 10$. The pad was excellent, one of the best I've tasted, they are a little stingy on the chicken, especially at dinner, same portion as lunch for almost double the money. I've ordered the stir fry as a carry out, once again dinner price and the portion was extremely skimpy, thank goodness it came with rice. Stingy stingy... The rolls were horrible, i will never order sushi from here again, Kroger has better. I believe the original Thai Basil located in Livonia is better from the lunch soup, meal portions more generous to the sushi, 100 times better. It's too bad this place should be packed but it's not. I have eaten here quite a few times, there is only a handful of people in there at any given time. It's located across the street from Providence hospital in Novi. You need to think a plate of pad consists of rice noodles, carrots, bean sprouts, a tablespoon of peanuts and a small portion of chicken for 8.95lunch 14$ at dinner. I came here for Thai carry out around lunch time twice. What I like is that they have a variety of choices. What I'm not crazy about is their flavor is hit or miss and they really skimp out on the protein. The first time I came, I got the chicken pad thai, mild spice. There was pretty much no spice to it and barely any chicken, but it still tasted okay. Ended up having a bunch of just salty noodles leftover. The second time, I got mild spice chicken pineapple curry with extra meat (which is a $2 upcharge). Even though both orders were mild, this was a lot spicier and it pretty much masked the other flavors. Also, still not that much meat, pretty disappointing. This location has the best Pad Thai ever very authentic and fresh. I get mine with Shrimp and chicken and the shrimp are sooo good and really fresh you can taste it in every bite, they are not drowned out by other flavors just clean tasting shrimp and that's how I like them. We had a horrifying experience with carry-out from Thai Basil in Novi. We ordered four meals, three with medium spice, one mild. The spice proportions were completely off - the mild dish was hot, one medium dish was extra extra hot (to the point that it could not be eaten), one medium dish appeared to have no spice (very bland), and one medium dish was accurate. So we called Thai Basil to let them know, and we asked for a refund because at least two out of the four meals were not edible. This is when it got WEIRD. The person on the phone asked us to BRING THE FOOD BACK TO THE RESTAURANT and they would give us a 20% credit. We insisted on a full refund because the food was basically not edible. She went on to say they could only issue a 20% credit and that we would need to bring the food back so they could swipe the card that was charged. We asked for the owner, who called back and was reluctant to issue any sort of credit, but said if we brought the food back, they'd issue a refund. By the way, their fried rice is not fried rice - it appears to be white rice tossed in some light sauce. We have been to dozens of Thai restaurants that we are satisfied with, including Thai Ocha in Plymouth. We won't go back to Thai Basil in Novi. read more

This review is just based on a carry out lunch order. Not all of the dishes are on the lunch menu so you might have to pay more if you want something specific. Lunch specials come with Tom Yum soup, even for take out, and the soup was the best part. Very spicy with big chunks of mushrooms. The entrees had disappointingly small portions for $8.25. My coworker thought her Pad See Ew was bland. My Green Curry had the right vegetables but it wasn't green! We will be sticking with Siam Spicy from now on. read more

Seated very quickly on a Wednesday night during the holidays. Place was practically empty for a 7PM dinner. Atmosphere was very chill, lots of available booths with modern furniture and music in the background. I ordered the Pad Thai Curry, my go-to pick for new Thai restaurants nowadays. Needless to say, I was not impressed with the curry sauce. After taking the first bite of the noodles, I realized it was nearly flavorless and had to turn all the noodles over in the sauce before trying again. Even after finishing the meal, I had felt that the curry sauce needed more kick to it. I got the medium sauce, perhaps I should have upped it to the hot sauce to get more flavor. I generally have a decent spice tolerance so going up to hot shouldn't have been too bad. In town for a convention and Thursday night I ordered a delivery of Drunken Noodles. Food was all right and delivery was prompt! Tried to order again on Saturday, and order was interrupted by a manager type rudely telling me I had to order a minimum of $25 worth of food. This place is pretty good. It's got a nice interior but it mixes it with an odd sports sushi bar in the back. Speaking if sushi, I'd stick to to hot plates. Portions are sized well and are usually pretty good! However, this place is almost always empty or on the verge of being empty, which can be disconcerting or calming. Ambiance: Not the most thematic thai restaurant but they have pleasing non-descript art on the wall with black and red tones. The high vaulted ceiling also makes the place seem extra spacious and it overall has a refined feel. Service was friendly enough although we went at an odd time so it was pretty dead. I thought a nice touch was they served peanuts on the side for my pad thai in case I was allergic. Food: We started with some tom kha soup which was pretty meh. The ingredients were super fresh and had a bright crisp flavor however the broth tasted thin and watered down which ruined it for me. I had the pad thai "medium hot" and it was very pleasant. They use wider rice noodles then most restaurants, cook the egg separately, and mix it with the sauce before playing. While stir-frying everything is more traditional, simply mixing everything at the end means the ingredients each have a very individual flavor and its not sticky starchy lump. I won't argue with results. My wife got the panang curry also "medium hot" and it made me sweat. Again the ingredients and technical cooking were perfect with tender meat and veges with good bite but the dish lacked a strong "panang" flavor which is typically sweeter from the palm sugar and more savory from the concentrated coconut milk, fish sauce, peanuts, and shrimp paste. Overall I enjoyed the place. I can't mention enough how fresh the ingredients were and how impeccable the technical cooking was, however, they need to work on upping the savoriness/richness of some of their dishes as some tasted "thin" to me. The spice rating is also inconsistent based on what type of dish you pick so beware. Prices are a touch high but portion size is also generous. Definitely worth checking out if you're in Novi. read more

Seems to have gone down hill as they've gained popularity. Sauce is watery and barely there, and this is the only thing you can count on here these days. Mild spice is very inconsistent, sometimes right on target, other times too spicy to eat. They rarely bring my food with no peanuts or well done as ordered. High ceilings, modern, clean. Sushi counter is small and elevated but you can sit there. Only complaint is they should clean up the personal items. My son likes salmon curry and hence I really don't have choice but I go here atleast once a week. Today 8th time they made me wait for more than 35 minutes beyond the time they had promised to gave my to go order ready. Every time I request the staff to make a note of their mistake and it's inhuman to make hungry paying regular customer waiting all the time with out proper discipline being in service industry. Nobody really seem to care. Highly dissatisfied and disappointed with this restaurant staff. Very good Thai meal today! I had the Tom Yum to start, which I ordered as medium. A lot of Thai places ask you to scale the heat from one to ten. This place is more of a mild/medium/hot place. I would rate their medium as a 6 or 7 on my scale, so be warned... It was very good, but spicy. I had the Honor of the Queen, which was a shrimp and chicken over fried tofu blocks served on a sizzling plate. The heat was perfect for me after I asked them to tone it down a step following my Tom Yum experience. Overall, 4 stars; I'd come back. I ordered the dinner portion of the gang massaman and the drunken noodle extra spicey, both were really good and full of flavor! Day 2 I called at 11 for a 12 delivery, this time I ordered the dinner portion of the curry pad thai and drunken noodle extra spicey, once again spot on! I invited my friends here for my birthday. It's my favorite restaurant. My meal was good, but my husband's was soggy and with a strong vinegar taste. A friend of mine's was the same: soggy and vinegary. When we complained, the owner told us not to eat there if we didn't like it. That is horrible customer service.
