I have a few favorites here! The food is consistent and always tasty. My favorites are drunken noodle and bangkok chicken vermicelli soup! I would usually order their Thai iced tea. I would say it's a pretty good Thai restaurant. I got a rather reasonable portion of the Pad See Ew and it was very flavorful. I would also say they have a rather large menu and haven't tried everything to give it a more cohesive review. Service was very kind in helping me decide what dishes to select and I greatly appreciate that. Overall, I'd say it's a solid Thai spot. read more

Easy place to walk in for a casual meal without a reservation. Ordered the pad see ew, basil fried rice with crispy chicken, and the pad thai. The star of the show was definitely the crispy chicken. The savory Thai basil flavor pairs perfectly with the juicy chicken. The crispiness of the chicken also adds a wonderful texture to the dish. I usually stray away from the Thai basil fried rice because I don't think the spice adds much to the dish but I actually really enjoyed the combination of spices they used to enhance the dish. The pad see ew was also delicious, cooked with enough oyster sauce to make the dish flavorful. The vegetables are stir fried well and there is enough to complement the noodles. Very solid dish and would definitely recommend if you're looking to satisfy a pad see ew craving. Would not recommend the pad thai. The flavoring was primarily sour and didn't have much complexity to it at all. The coloration of the noodles is also white which makes it a less appealing dish to the eye. From the Thai restaurants I have been to in Boston, this has definitely been up there for me. Would definitely come back for a quick meal when I'm in the area! read more

Avoid this restaurant at all cost. The food was ok, but the service was abhorrent. After paying our bill we were accosted by one of the servers (an elderly woman) to pay more tip. She proceeded to ask if something was wrong and pointed out on the receipt how they recommend we pay more. We told her we left what we felt was a reasonable tip for the food and service and we were not interested is paying more. The woman then proceeded to yank the receipt from the table and stomped off to the back area speaking angrily to the other staff (presumably about us). To say we were shocked is an understatement. This was the worst dining experience I've had in a long time and the worst I've ever had in Boston. Do yourself a favor and avoid this establishment. There is better food and service elsewhere. Unfortunately this place does not value their customers, but would prefer to shake them down and shame them for trying to support their business. It's a huge NO for me! read more

I stopped by for a Friday work lunch at noon. I received prompt seating and put in an order for the Bangkok noodle soup w/shrimp ($12.95) and some hot sake ($10). The menu described the Bangkok noodle soup as simple stock. Even for a simple stock, it was far too anemic. That, along with a wad of rice noodle, a few pieces of shrimp, and a paltry sprinkle of scallion and fried garlic, seemed mediocre at best, and hardly worth its price. Perhaps this is an off item on the menu, and others are better. The saving grace was that the establishment served hot sake and that the server checked up on me multiple times. read more

The main lady who was managing the place was super rude and in so much of a hurry to close the place that she kept pulling plates and bowls within seconds of getting done, putting the check on the table even before we were done. Love the location and so glad the food and service were just as wonderful! I had a lunch special of pad Thai with pork dumpling (I am normally a curry girl). The pad Thai had a wonderful sweet flavor and not too saucy and the chicken was tender. The pork dumplings were served with a yummy sauce! 3.5 average rating is pretty accurate. I have been here several times, all during busy lunch hours. I never had to wait longer than 10 minutes to be seated for a table of two. They are always busy during lunch, but it seems like they have a system down. I have always tried the drunken noodles. The portion size is good for one person if hungry (or people like me who is always hungry). On my most recent visit, I tried the Panang curry, and it was also delicious! Again, I eat a lot, so it was very filling for me. If you don't eat that much, you can save it for a second meal! The only thing is that if you were to order an appetizer, tell the waiter to bring it out together with your main entree. The first time I ordered the Thai wings (highly recommend!), they didn't serve my entree until after I finished the appetizer. On my next visit, I let them they could bring my entree out as well. They did just that. And that minimized my lunch hour wait time. If you want to bring a large group (say more than 5 people), better come here before noon to grab your table. Otherwise, try to come before 12:15 for immediate seating for small groups. read more

Cute little place with separate gluten free menu and flavorful food. We had mango juice and the Thai Iced coffee to start and the presentation was lovely. The people who work there are also kind. Unfortunately had to remove one star because I requested no bean sprouts on the pad thai and they were all through the food making it challenging to eat but the server did not check back soon enough to ask it to be remade so I tried to eat around it. read more

Thai Basil is that kind of restaurant that will consistently deliver the same quality and quantity of average Thai food, every time you go. And since Thai food is already delicious to begin with, this restaurant is a good place to keep in your back pocket if you're in Back Bay and need a quick, easy option. I've been twice now, and have tried a noodle dish (pad see ew) and a stew (hot basil). As I said, both were good, with sizeable portions that prevented me from finishing my entire plate. A pretty good place to go to if you are looking for Thai food in the Copley/Prudential area. I got their Chicken Pad Thai Lunch Combo (I chose the Spring Rolls as a side). I was kind of surprised with how much noodles they gave, as it was very plentiful! Overall, I thought service was great and that the pad thai is pretty decent! The employees let my charge my device while I was eating which was really helpful since I was running low on battery. the place that I used to like now seems to have lost a customer .... Where tips seems to be the only thing they care about !!

My young children and I visited the restaurant while cruising around Newbury Street, we got seated fairly quickly. We ordered a noodle dish, a green curry and an avocado mango salad, all were relatively nice, fresh and with lots of fresh vegetables. Flavors were nice but not exquisite and the prices were ok. What I didn't like is that the restroom is not clean and the Resturant is a bit old and dark which can hide some accumulated dirt.. what I didn't like is that at pay time the worker forced me to tip a certain amount, then she said it can't be less that 15%, which I could have given anyway but it's just the attitude and honestly tipping is for when you get special and attentive service and not a given to give high tips, where I come from we tip, but it can be 8-10% for regular service and above based on how beyond basic they were. overall it was ok and given the location and the options in the menu I would visit again read more

We ordered a good variety of menu items to share amongst the table, and everything we had was good. I don't think anything blew us away, necessarily, but nothing got left behind. The highlights for our table were the Pad See Ew and the Basil Fried Rice. The curry puffs seemed frozen and fried way too hard, the cucumber sauce too mild. The shrimp shumai are standard and were probably my favorite item. The pad kee mao with crispy chicken was ok, baby corn is always a red flag in the dish for me. The sauce on the noodles was very mild, a running theme for a cuisine that's full of bold and contrasting flavors. The dish also came with a side of sweet chili sauce instead of being coated in the basil sauce, and it was watery and again, very mild. Service was very sweet and polite. They did add an 18% gratuity to our table which a friend pointed out to me when I was adding 20%, so I removed what would have been a large extra tip. Not many Thai options in the neighborhood, with this place being the most convenient. No one inside on a Sunday afternoon, as we were able to get a table of two immediately. Standard menu of Thai favorites and some interesting drinks. Decided on the Chili Duck lunch ($13) to go along with a large cold sake ($14). Food comes out suspiciously fast - in about 10 minutes after ordering. The hili duck had several pieces of duck surrounded mostly by roasted fruit and vegetables. Dish wasn't spicy at all and the sauce is thin. We also had the tofu mango ($11) entree which had extremely tough tofu pieces. Saving grace was the sake, which was east to drink and strong. Service here was fast, though we had to flag them for refills and the check. Probably better options in the area for lunch. read more

Came here on two consecutive days because I was craving for thai food. Have to say it was an absolute steal because it was both a lunch deal and I was able to get 45% back on surge from Seated. I have never ordered Penang curry before because I am a red curry person but they didnt have red curry for their lunch menu so I tried their Penang curry. It was really good- creamy, flavorful, but not as spicey ad red curry. I think they have successfully converted me into a penang curry person! Their yellow curry is good too but I think it tastes more like Indian curry with the herby flavors and I lean towards Penang curry more. For spicey lovers, the chicken hot basil is a great choice and it has so much flavor! Will definitely be back! read more

Female waiter was rude, forgot our waters, the noodles looked soggy and disgusting. I came with 3 other people we all decided to pay separately and the waiter got all bothered. Then we all tipped 3 dollars, and the audacity that the male waiter came outside as we were walking out asking for more tip as if he deserved it.. they wanted above the 18% percent... Thai Basil is one of my favorite Thai spots in Boston. I've been coming here for the last 8 years. Even their gluten free fried rice is great. If you work in the back bay area, Thai Basil is perfect for lunch takeout or even dinner takeout after work. The service is consistently good and they always serve large portions. One of the reasons I keep coming back here is for the fried ice cream, since I haven't been able to find a place that makes them this good.
