I was made aware of the Thai Bistro by a friend and her family. Today I visited the restaurant with a college friend. We were pleasantly surprised that they had a lunch menu on Sunday which includes a soup and salad with your entree. I LOVE their Panang Curry chicken (I go with medium heat) and chose that. My friend had their Basil Beef at a medium heat level. We shared our dishes with each other and enjoyed both equally. We decided to try a desert and enjoyed Thai Custard with Sweet Rice and Sweet rice with mango. Both were delicious and something we would order again. Their service was wonderful. If you are in the museum district/ Med Center; it's a quick drive down Bissonnet to enjoy a wonderful Thai Meal. I always leave wonderfully satisfied with my meal. Enjoy!! read more

First place for Thai where they were unwilling to accommodate my diet. Would not change my order in any way. I asked for pad thai w no noodles which can be done (I do it at home) or with glass noodles at least and was told no. I am a chef it is totally easy. I ordered chicken pad thai anyway...it literally had six small pieces of chicken and two green onion strips...a pile of bean sprouts, two limes and DRY noodles meaning they absorbed all the sauce. Service is acceptable and reasonably quick. You won't get white glove service but you also won't get any rudeness. The food is well made and tasty. I like the fried whole fish but it's been unavailable on my last 2 visits. The assorted appetizer is a good option to start. The Thai toast and shrimp tempura is yummy. The spice level is really 'spicy' so first level spicy or none is good enough if you're not a fan of pepper hot food. You don't need a reservation and they have available space upstairs if needed. If you're living in the medical center area, you know that there are not that many good Thai food places around. This was definitely one of my favorite Thai restaurants that I stumbled upon that were not too far of a drive from where I lived in the medical center. This was the go-to place for my roommate and I whenever we really wanted to order some Thai food for takeout. I always order the chicken pad see ew (mild to medium spice) and my roommate always ordered the chicken pad kee mao (midl to medium spice). It is SO good and the portions that they give are so big. I never finish the entire portion in one sitting. I've also ordered the tom yum soup from here too, and it is so good. The flavor is amazing. The takeout orders take generally about 20 minutes to make, which isn't bad at all! read more

There was hair in our spicy salmon dish and when we told the waiter about it, she just said it may be from the wind blowing since we were seated outside. This makes no sense as the long straight hair was actually stuck inside the rice. Nothing was done about it and we were still charged for that particular item. Not pleased at all. read more

The food was good, but the service was not (Favi). My concerns with the waitress: 1.) She placed everything on the table far away from me so that i had to reach for it. I was dining alone, there's no reason for her to place stuff on the other side of the table. That was annoying and the first time that happened ever. If this was a covid concern then she should be wearing gloves or sanitize before and after approaching every table. 2.) She never picked up anything from my table. I pushed away the appetizer dish all the way to the opposite end of the table and she still never picked it up. She didn't get anything until I put my card in with the check. I got the panang curry and the bell peppers were still raw, otherwise, it was ok. I may try them again since it was close to home. I hope it's better service. read more

I used to love this place. Picked up lunch here about once a week. I moved away and came back and this place has changed significantly. New owner / management? Pad Thai was very different and not in a good was. Lunch used to not only be much bigger, but also fresh. I think this came out of a steamer pan. All the noddle were cut very short. Previously had a shrimp or two - now nothing. Salad used to come with dressing, maybe this was missed, but just lettuce? People were polite enough. Now I need to find a new place for solid Pad Thai. read more

Decided to try this place out for Thai in the area the service and staff were quick and very friendly! Ordered a pad see ew with beef, it was a filled plate and the perfect spice on medium level. It also had circle sliced carrots too, which I never really see. Also got the Thai curry with coconut milk - def could taste the coconut which was good, just a little runny imo. This establishment used to be better in my memory, but my most recent visit was less than ideal. Parking - 5* This establishment is in a strip center with dedicated parking. There is plenty of parking in the front and the back. Interior / Decor - 4* The decor atmosphere is nice with subtle cultural decor. Service - 2* This is where things really fell apart. We ordered the Pad Kee Mao with Shrimp (Thai spicy) and the Spicy Green Bean with Chicken (medium spicy). The order took nearly 45 minutes to receive and only after we inquired with our waitress on where our food was did it magically come out shortly thereafter. When the order did arrive each dish had issues, though at this point we just ate what was provided as we were so frustrated and hungry. What we received was the Pad Kee Mao with chicken not Shrimp, but at least it was Thai spicy. The Spicy Green Bean entree was Thai spicy, not medium. Again neither were huge issues, but nonetheless not what we ordered. Moving on, throughout the entire time the waitress only stopped by once to refill water at the end. We ate most of the meal with empty glasses. Food - 4* The food here has always been good and I really have no faults on this front. It's a place that turns out consistent dishes. I wouldn't say it's "the best", but there is far worse out there. Pricing - 3* The pricing is ok, but not the best value. It's in line with the area and at a slight premium to what one might expect. Dishes are $11-15 roughly. At dinner time there is a limited special with a couple of choices to choose for a starter and entree for $18. It feels like this special could be expanded to cover more than two choices under each given many places have "specials" under $12-15 at dinner. Overall - 3* It's a great place, but due to the extremely poor service this time it will be awhile until we come back. Reviews were awesome so I wanted to check it out. It's an odd space for a restaurant situated on the corner of a row of businesses but they made good use of the space. There's seating outside, inside on the lower level and what appears to be more seating upstairs. Service was attentive as they seem to use the "all hands on deck" system with no specific assigned server. I ordered the soft shrimp rolls as an appetizer but wasn't crazy about the waxy texture or flavor. Luckily they remedied it by taking it back. For the entree I ordered the Basil Inferno with Chicken. Once Thai food is seasoned with spices, there's no turning back so I ordered it mild and added spice to get it to my fav level. All was going well until I thought I saw a hair. However, they confirmed it wasn't and offered to correct the dish. Customer service wins the day with this one. read more

Houston continues to surprise me with its strong array of Thai restaurants, and Thai Bistro is another strong contender for best Thai restaurant. I think this place deserves a solid 4.5, too bad Yelp doesn't stratify enough. The best dish here IMO is the Panang Curry. The flavor, as my friend puts it while trying to explain to me, is indescribable and I can't disagree. I've had Panang Curry at other places where I've been disappointed, so I was hesitant to try it again but this dish has a gold star next to it so I couldn't not! I would definitely get this dish again. I've also had the Pad Thai here which was pretty solid. This also happens to my roommates go-to take-out place for when she's too lazy to cook... I swear she eats here weekly when she's stressed. For me, what sets this place apart from the other amazing Thai places is its location (best Thai restaurant that's close-ish to the medical center), and lack of a line whenever I've gone. Promptly seated ingredients very fresh professional and kind clean and ambiance- amazing Thai ice tea the soup and salad that comes with lunch are light and fresh. The soup brother you can tell is not canned or boxed it is light and feels rich at the same time - rich with nutrition. The food comes beautifully plated - I would want this soup any day - it is a perfect portion, too. The veggies aren't soggy at all it doesn't taste like it been sitting in a large pot all day and night - it tastes amazing and fresh - you can drink right from the bowl it's warm and comforting and feels like happiness! Not overly salty broth at all has real saturated fats in it. The yellow curry was spiced well and creamy the bean sprouts are an interesting touch sort of a pallet cleanser - the broccoli was cooked perfectly as was the rice - it was very filling. read more

I got the thai tea and the house special that includes a soup and entre for a little under $18. The soup was the non spicy option I'm not a fan of spicy. There are 2 options for the entree a spicy and a non spicy. The non spicy was shrimp and asparagus which the lady behind me got but it seemed a little simple just shrimp and asparagus so I tried doing the spicy option because it was a seafood mix. It's medium spicy you can't change it to mild. In my opinion the portion is very small. The meal contains 2 shrimp, scallops and squid and a small serving of white rice. The person I went with had yellow curry with chicken. The portion was larger and filling but they never came back for him to order another beer. Overall it was good. Overall, just a solid Thai restaurant. Service was friendly and fast. Got the Panang curry as a lunch special and also tried the Thai toast and satay chicken. The curry had just the right amount of sweetness so I enjoyed that very much. Satay chicken is as solid as you'd find in any other thai/singapore/malaysia restaurant especially with that peanut sauce. I can't remember the specifics of the Thai toast but I enjoyed that as well. I tried someone's Bangkok noodles and it basically tasted like drunken noodles which I tend to enjoy as well. This was My first time ordering the pad Thai noodles with chicken. and ordered some shrimp fried rice honestly the shrimp fried rice is OK but how is it I go to stir it and a Damn Egg Shell is in it!! this pad Thai noodle is disgusting. I don't know what it is or who y'all's cooks are but the taste is Definitely not good and it taste like dirty dishes that they cook in. I honestly want to go to the restaurant and throw this shit at them. I'm pissed The smell isn't right either.
