Thai Bloom! is a very new, sleek Thai restaurant located on Portland's charming 23rd Ave. The menu is packed with an extensive difficult-to-choose-from-because-everything-sounds-delicious options and everything selected fulfilled our expectations. The Pad See Ew is fantastic, as was the Massaman Lamb Curry. The meat is fresh and flavorful, and the noodles and and sauces were a delight. I also recommend the Spring Roles with Shrimp-- omg, I am still dreaming about the dipping sauces. I also tried the Thai Tea Kicker cocktail, which was very sweet and certainly packed a punch! After a long day visiting the neighboring Rose Test Garden and the Japanese Garden, I walked to the NW 23rd Ave. area to have dinner. Arriving at around 6pm was perfect, I get seated right away. I ordered a cup of Tom Kha soup with chicken and the drunken noodles with pork. Both are pretty good. It was nice to start the meal with hot soup. The drunken noodles was flavorful and a little spicy, which I really enjoyed. You can also asked them to adjust the spiciness. With Yelp checked-in, I got a free handmade coconut ice cream! First I thought it was just a free scoop of ice cream, but when I saw it, it has beautiful presentation and most importantly it tastes good!! What a great way to end dinner. The Crispy Duck is on my top ten list for favorite meals. The dish comes with crispy duck, bao buns, jalapeños, cilantro and rice. The duck is the perfect blend of tender, juicy, and crispy. I've gotten take out at least three different times from this place since it's just right down the street from my house. Overall I think the food is pretty solid! Ive tried the Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Tom Yum, Tom Kha, papaya salad, chicken satay, green and red curries. The last time I ordered I asked for medium spicy which turned out to be not spicy at all and very bland. If you took an amalgamation of all the Thai restaurants in America and came up with what the average one looked like....you'd come up with Thai Bloom. Here are some tips. Check in for free ice cream. The portion they give you is surprisingly big. The happy hour menu lasts all Sunday and while it's not a great deal, the portions are smaller, proportionally, to the main price, and it's filling enough. The decor is understated and old school. It's usually pretty empty on a Sunday, so you can chill. The food is packed with flavor, but nothing to die for. Not a bad choice if you need a place to go! read more

The non-vegan tofu pad thai was really bland and just blah... plus there was a pubic hair (at least what looked like it-- short, dark, kind of curly, hair follicle in tact) sitting right on top when I opened the box. I am not squeamish and it wasn't touching anything important so I just removed it and kept an eye out for more but didn't see any. I only ate half of the meal anyways My coworker's beef pad thai was also bland (he didn't see any stray hairs though). A quick Yelp search had several people stating that THAI Bloom had "the best" noodles. They weren't lying. We got 5 different dishes and they were all excellent. Went in with a large party of 8 on a weekend night. Restaurants were busy but we got seated immediately. Staffs are friendly and very nice. Some dishes was very good, I liked dishes like eggplant and duck curry (sorry, I forgot the names). Some of the dishes where we made special request to be mild spicy ended up being very spicy and we wanted extra sauce for pad Thai but ended up getting pad Thai on the drier side. Having travelled extensively in Thailand and eating both street food and high class food, i can recommend this place for the step above the normal Thai place you might find. The Khao Soy is a typical northern Thai dish and Thai Bloom serves a huge portion of authentic flavor. I also like the Lhab Ghai which is a salad. Thai Bloom has fresh and tasty Thai. We sat outside for lunch, and the service was excellent. We started with the fresh spring rolls, which were extremely fresh and came with two delicious sauces. I had the papaya salad, which is a favorite of mine and something I get at every Thai restaurant as a barometer of their food. This one was super crisp and fresh and pretty spicy. My husband had a beautiful cod dish wrapped in banana leaves. We look forward to going back for dinner next time and trying more dishes. read more

We were very excited when Thai Bloom! opened up this location. We used to trek out to Beaverton because it was just that good. Happily the food is just as good at the NW 23rd location and it's much more convenient. We love the seasonal offerings (pumpkin fries in the fall!) and the standard dishes do not disappoint. They also have interesting drinks and the bar scene can be pretty fun. The only downside is parking, which I think most businesses in that area struggle with. read more

Just moved here from Chicago where I grade a Thai restaurant on their Pad Thai alone. Ordered delivery so can't say anything about the restaurant itself. I didn't care for the food. I requested medium spicy Pad Thai with prawns. The "prawns" were simply small shrimps. It wasn't the least bit spicy and like another reviewer said, tasted like it was a week old. I had to throw it away. The seafood wonton was soggy. Should have had a crunch to it. The whole dinner was just meh. read more

Delicious spicy Lao-Isaan style papaya salad (order of sticky rice on the side), waterfall beef, chicken satay, crispy seafood pancake (hoi tod), kratong thong, crab fried rice, crab pad Thai (they were very generous with the crab in both dishes), pad khi mao, and panaeng curry. Every dish was filled with all the vibrant contrasting flavors that make Thai food so delicious, and there was high quality seafood---giant scallops, plump shrimp, loads of crab, everything really top notch. Not the best Thai restaurant I've been to but not the worst either. We ordered a bowl of Tom Yum soup and Pad See Ew. The soup broth was pretty plain and lacking in flavor, but had a generous amount of prawns. The pad see ew was a bit of a disappointment... The plate had only 1 broccoli floret and about 3 or 4 broccoli stalk chunks. I asked for it to be spicy, but it was very mild and had no kick. I wish the noodles dishes came with a side of rice. The Thai iced tea was delicious, but not worth the price. They use so much ice in the thin glass that there is barely any actual drink in the glass. I Iiterally took 3 sips and was finished with the drink. I give 3 stars instead of 2 because the restaurant seemed very clean and the staff was friendly and provided good customer service. Great food! This place is worth the drive downtown, up the hills & around the one way streets to find difficult parking! Ha!! No really, it was delicious. I was able to make all the meals vegan. I started out with the curry puffs & they were good, I'd never had anything like it. I almost got the drunken noodles but I opted for the Pad Se Ewe noodles with tofu & veggies, the flavor was mild but I'd eat it again. My favorite was the yellow curry with tofu & veggies, I loved the spice & flavor, perfection.
