The girl taking our take out order was trying really hard, which I can appreciate. They have the best iced tea. They forgot my soup with the order and from the looks of it I'm not the first. They have a bored on their wall that when they miss something in and order write that persons name so they get a free B next time. It also needs a really good scrub. Went in here for lunch and ordered pad kee mao. I've definitely had better, but this was fine. The issue I had here was with the waitress. I was supposed to get soup with my lunch, but that never came (well, she brought it when I was done eating). I asked for chili sauce, and she definitely took almost 10 minutes to get it. At the end of the meal when she finally remembered to bring the soup, she said "sorry, it got kinda crazy in here." I didn't realize 6 tables was "crazy," but ok. I'll give here that there were people coming in with to-go orders, but there was another waitress to back her up. I've seen far busier restaurants with more attentive staff. Meh. read more

I never like to leave a bad review of a place but after giving so many chances and truly enjoying the food, when I begin to pay close attention to their efforts It has called upon me to write something about them. Especially when the establishment does not take responsibility for the mistakes they have made. The last few times I have eaten here I have found HAIRS in my food. Approaching the staff about it each time I was met with a limp apology reminding me of their policy on such mistakes, but ultimately dismissing and unsympathetic despite me being a long time customer. Has anyone else found hair in the food here? this is alarming for places that are confident about their great taste, such that attention and cleanliness become secondary to PURE BUSINESS. I figure writing something about it may invoke a possible change to things, if not then I don't know what to say. Hopefully their management reads and considers this; they know what they are doing on the flavour front but just need to smarten up a bit in the service and sanitation departments. read more

Can't tell you anything about the food, went in to place a take out order, with less than 10 people in the entire restaurant we waited roughly 20 minutes before walking out with out so much as a goodbye which wasn't surprising as we didn't get a hello either read more

I did not care for this restaurant. The shrimp in the fresh spring rolls did not taste fresh, very fishy. The chicken rolls were not available three different times, though they are on the regular menu. I gave them several chances. One of my favorite places to eat in Traverse City. The food is always good, though I wouldn't recommend getting the pork with your meal - it was kind of creepy/gross. Besides the pork my only complaint is calling in orders for pick-up. One day we called about 3 times and the phone just rang and rang with no voice mail or anything to let us know if they were closed for some reason. We looked online and it said they were open so we tried to call again and got a busy signal for about 10 minutes. We gave up and since we live close we just decided to go over and see if they were open, and they were. We decided to dine-in and while we were sitting at the table we called the same number to see if it was right and if the phone would ring and sure enough it did. Not sure if they had it unplugged or something wasn't working when we called or what was going on but it was a bit irritating. My favorite food to get is the N5 and the hot and sour soup, but they do not have complimentary soup if you order for pick-up. Always large portions for the price usually enough for 2 or to have 2 meals from one order. read more

I have eaten at the cafe many times last few years. This week ate there again after enjoy great Thai food in Olympia WA. I thought oh my cannot be good. We go there for Lunch so that is what I review. The Egg Drop with Hot and sour soups were so good broth extra nice. Middling. If you're in TCMI and desperate for some pad Thai you could do worse, you won't be wowed either. It's sufficiently decent but nothing special was expecting more from 35 4-star average reviews. I give it a friendly, well-meaning "meh."" It's not bad or gross or unfriendly or anything. Just utterly unremarkable and banal. That being said, I'm grateful there is a Thai option available in Traverse City, but I don't remember this town being so bucolic-- it's 2013 and the airport has jet service, there are wineries and a dedicated iPod repair store-- you'd think you could find exciting Asian by now, no? right? Nope. This place wouldn't last three months in an L.A. strip mall, but seeing as how it's T.C. I'm glad it's here and I hope it succeeds and you'll have passable Thai food in a sterile but forgettable environment. Ordered the Peanut Curry Pad Thai with tofu and vegetables for takeout. It was delicious. I got medium spicy and that was plenty hot for me - borderline too hot. I will go with mild next time. Highly recommend this place. I have had Thai food all over the country and I will return here if I am ever in town again. read more

Incredible chicken curry peanut pad thai--every time! We drive from south of town just to get it--best ever. We've tried other things on the menu that are equally as good--never disappointed. $10 for HUGE portions, which means 2 meals. Can't beat it. Have eaten in and have had excellent service from friendly staff. Have taken out and always super fast service. Highly recommend. read more

The green and yellow curries are good. I've had multiple to go orders messed up (pretty sure I got someone else's food) and unfortunately at times someone else was picking up for me so I couldn't check them at the restaurant. Also I wish they would drain the tofu more before cooking it, it's always a bit squishy for my taste. Maybe that's just me though. read more

My family was in the mood for Thai food and this was basically the only one in the area. We were very satisfied with our decision. The restaurant is small but clean. Staff were friendly and attentive to us. We placed our orders and the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered the chicken Pad Thai (mild), chicken Pad Kee-Mao (medium spicy, which had a good kick), and the Gang Massamun Curry. All our dishes were delicious and flavorful with the right amount of spice. We have been to many Thai joints around the country and this one was quite satisfying. We also ordered Thai Iced teas which tasted more like a powder mix drink than authentic but we enjoyed them. Soups all came with our entrees as well. We ordered one of each: egg drop, Hot & sour, and wonton soup. Our kids loved the wonton soup and they're pretty picky eaters. I would recommend this place to anyone in the mood for real Thai food. read more

March 11th Very disappointing the cook must be on spring break . My Pad Tai was literally plain white rice noodles and steamed shrimp no flavor. The Chicken spring roll very doughy no crisp, one bite threw them out. The G-3 had chicken, shrimp, beef all way over cooked and chewy. Bummer read more

FINALLY! Traverse City FINALLY has some good Thai food!!!! My husband stumbled upon this place a couple weeks ago and brought home some Phad Thai for dinner. We were there for a friday dinner in early Sept. We had two Thai noodle dinners that were hot, fresh and tasty. Tables were clean, service was prompt and knowledgeable, no complaints. The place has no atmosphere but the food is very good if you like Thai foods with strong flavors and flavorful sauces. This is northern MI, not Detroit or Chicago with a tasty option to the many midwest American fare restaurants. read more

We visit Traverse city at least once or twice every year. Being vegetarian, I am always worried about where to eat out when I am there. There are not many options except for pizza so when my eyes fell on this place as I drove by I had to check it out. We were there for lunch and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. There were plenty of vegetarian options including hot soup. Every dish we ordered was flavorful, quantity was more than enough, very friendly service and prices were great too. Hi i'm the owner of Thai cafe and for Jessica comments about the grey hairs your friend found in the peanut curry pad thai dish is not hair at all, its the tail of the bean sprount. i don't believed any one can put that much grey hair in a dish and still can be in business. For the other comment about you didn't get all the dishes you've ordered. I take full responsible for that and i tell all my wait staffs to always try to make all my costumer happy, when its our mistake we will do what ever you wish for us to do. the waitress came back to tell me that you want a refund back so i told her ok refund the full amount back to you and then couple min. later she came back and said you just want the dish that was missing. i'm really sorry for the miscommunication on that night but the waitress was training a new waitress and we got really busy that night. i know there's no excuse, and thank you very much for comment on this problem so i will bring this up to all my wait staff. For Tracy B. when you ordering vegetable or vegetable tofu, there are lots of different kinds of vegetable that we used so you're not gonna get more of one or the other vegs. and if you like one vegs more than other just request. pad thai doesn't come spicy. you have to request if you want your pad thai to be spicy. read more

Service was good but food was definitely not up to par. Probably one of the worse Thai restaurant I've been to. I ordered tom yum shrimp soup, and it tasted like instant noodle. It seemed like they use packaged flavors, canned mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and only 3 jumbo shrimps in a small bowl. Also, I had peanut curry pad Thai. That was not good. It was basically noodles soaked in thick peanut sauce. We ordered shrimps egg rolls as appetizers. That was the only good one, but it was only a serving of 2 egg rolls for $4.50 (not worth it). Overall, I'd only recommend it if you're there to visit and REALLY crave Thai food or Asian food. Otherwise, just eat something else. read more

I highly recommend you stay away. If you don't believe me go there and order, then you will see where your food is being prepared at. We got our food to go. 15 min time we where there to pick up. The food was ready and smelled like Thai. The noodles where dry and crunchy and well inedible. I threw it out after three fork fulls. Well I hope this helps. PS just save your cash from going here and go to like a taco Bell down the street. Yea Taco Bell is gourmet compared to this place. read more

For years I have not only craved & raved about the take-out I have gotten here, I even had my husband hooked(not typically an asian food fan). We would typically get takeout once a week, but have found the quality waining over the past year. To top that off the past four times in a row when getting home we haven't gotten what we ordered, once we called but didn't want to go all the way back up to exchange the wrong dish. This weekend my husband came home with a $45 order, & one dish was missing, another was partly filled up. I decided I would make my ravenously hungry family wait until I went back and straightened this out. To my disappointment the waitress told me she remembered putting the dish in our bag, I responded that I brought the whole order with me & could show her it wasn't in there. After emptying the contents of the bag on the small counter & seeing I was telling the truth, she went back into the kitchen to discuss the matter with the owner/cook. Ten minutes later she came back asked for my card, refunded my money & sent me on my way. I explained this wasn't what I just wanted, I wanted what I ordered, & also to be compensated for all the trouble we've had getting wrong orders the past couple times. She had another argument with the unseen cook, in a language I couldn't understand. After several more minutes, she proceeded to use the credit card she hadn't given back & charge the full amount. She gave me the freshly made hot dish to add to the now cold food piled in my brown paper bag soaked with spilled soup to take back to my family. The patron sitting waiting for her take-out, mentioned in the beginning that she felt I handled the situation very well. When I finally left 25 minutes later, after hearing and seeing this whole ordeal, & still waiting herself, she mentioned how unfair it was that they were sending me home with cold food & charging me full price on top of it.
