We love this place! Try the dumplings in red curry sauce, they are great! They have the best pad see ew I've had in the Raleigh area.

They changed ownership a couple of years ago; and it has not been the same. I have tried three separate occasions to give them another chance and it was horrible. The last time broke the straw! I smelled a distinct smell in the restaurant after returning my food. The waitress told me it was something on the roof. I told her it smelled like roach spray! She started to laugh. I told her that it was not funny. I knew it was roach spray, and that they should take time with my food. My food was half-cooked. I expected a different pierce of chicken. They put the same piece on the grill, and tried to tell me it was a different one. I showed them where I had bitten it..and told them that it was disgusting that they would do this to me! I asked for the manager and they just looked at me. I finally just walked out, and left the food. read more

Food is generally good and usually consistent. Service leaves a lot to be desired lately. I come here often, for takeout only these last several months, and in the last several weeks the takeout service has been poor. They disconnect the phone in the restaurant when they get too busy. They'll tell you food will be ready in 15 minutes and it takes 45. You pull up for takeout and they don't come out for 20-30 minutes. Maybe it changed ownership or something because it used to be better. I was hoping it was a fluke but it has been several times in a row now. The other night they accidentally skipped our ticket. One of my favorite spots! Food is always AMAZING, never disappoints. I only give it 4 stars because they are usually understaffed. Chirag was our server tonight and he did amazing given the conditions he was in. Mediocre food with very little meat. The roasted duck came with a few smallish pieces of duck, plenty of not particularly good tasting sauce and few pieces of vegetables (tomatoes, pineapple, etc.). The Red Curry is sooooo good! I get it on the shrimp and veggies stir fry and the dumplings. My husband always gets sushi and raves about it. We eat there about 3 times a month, and have never been disappointed. There are dishes for all tastes--my kids love the chicken fried rice and noodle dishes, while my husband and I go for the spicy curry dishes and sushi. So first off let me start that I'm a bit of a thai/Malay food snob, having been to Asia and my husband to Thailand several times, we know what traditional thai food is supposed to taste like.....unfortunately, this is not the authentic experience. It's thai that's been readjusted to "American" taste.....the food is fine, just not authentic taste......for the first time thai taster the food would be fine, but meh for the expert thai food consumer. Now what is phenomenal is their homemade coconut cake. Though not a huge fan of their thai food, I still came back a second time for that awesome coconut cake. It's mind blowing.....and I typically don't like coconut cake. But theirs is light moist creamy and just fabulous! You have to fight not to have seconds!! Will come back for the dessert. We are from Florida. Every time we pass North Calorina. We always want to stop by Thai Cafe. This time we made it. We always get a taste of Authentic Thai food. This restaurant is clean. Modern look but authentic taste. We like the open kitchen. No heavy food smell after leaving the restaurant. We ordered Crispy Fish with sweet & sour sauce. Fish were very crispy. Tried this earlier today and I was beyond underwhelmed. We ordered 2 Pad Thai dinners, a spicy beef salad and two spicy tuna hand rolls to go. We got home and found only one Pad Thai meal and it wasn't good. The spicy beef salad was ok but the beef was a bit tough. I was especially looking forward to the spicy tuna hand rolls and again I was disappointed. They were dry and pretty flavorless. We didn't finish any of the dishes and we love Thai food. I have said this before in my other Thai restaurant reviews...I love my Thai SPICY. Like, my mouth still hurts in the morning spicy. I am so happy that Thai Cafe has lived up to my morning after standard!!! Living 5 minutes away from a quality Thai place makes me one happy chic. We went here Saturday night with a group of 6 at 7 pm. We got a table easily, but the place did have a nice crowd. I scanned the menu for the items that were noted with 3 chili peppers (their hottest). I focused in on the Nam Tok Beef appetizer (spicy beef, ginger shards, cabbage for using as a wrap) and then decided on the Green Curry. The Nam Tok had 3 peppers next to it, so I was ready for some heat. It came out very quickly, and I did not disappoint (sidebar - I had a glass of the Cupcake Savignon Blanc - PERFECT pairing for spicy Thai). The serving was huge and I was able to share with the whole table while still enjoying plenty for myself (and only cost $8!). So flavorful and spicy! I really did not want to stop eating it ever, except my tongue may have fallen off if I didn't. The Curry came out very soon after, and was on a much welcome tamer spice level, yet still very flavorful. Very creamy too. MMMMMMM. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals (sushi, duck, beef) and our service was great. I have read some of the earlier reviews of Thai Cafe, and I am surprised by the 1 stars. I think they may have had some new restaurant issues to work out, because the food and service we experienced were definitely 4 stars in my book. read more

This place used to be a 5 star place so I do feel bad giving it 2 stars. If I had my last experience alone, I wouldve given it a 1 star. My sister had her rehearsal dinner here and we would also go here for other family events. It seems like the person who used to manage the place is now gone and has been taken over by someone else. It has made all the difference. I ordered the sweet and sour pork. It was so sweet that it was inedible. I don't know if there was MSG in the food but all our tongue and mouths started getting shriveled. My wife is standing next to me asking why I am giving 2 stars and not 1. My mom got the sweet and sour as well, she barely touched her food. Again, it was so sweet. The worst part is that my sister had a metal piece in her food. Her husband was finishing her food and he spit it out. My sister was examining it when the waitress showed up. After we showed it to her, the manager came back and explained that it was from the dish-washing scrubber. Whenever I mention it to my wife, she gags and almost throws up- she still can't figure out how the scrubber could have gotten in the food. I can't imagine what would've happened if my sisters husband ate that metal piece. It was a large clump of sharp foreign metal, it definitely would have caused some health concerns. This would be a very different review if it was written 6months ago but because of this experience, we will not be back. Also, my mom wanted thai ice tea because my sister ordered it. The waitress came back and told us that they had run out. We were only one of 3 families there and it wasnt even 5pm yet! Disappointing to say the least and hard to believe they had exactly one cup of thai iced tea left in the whole restaurant and we got the last cup. read more

I ordered the Won Ton soup and it was very delicious. I shared it with my brother, but I wish I had not shared it. :) I also ordered something else, but I can not remember the name. It had noodles, chicken, and basil in it. It was also very spicy. I think it could have been good if it did not have basil. I don't like basil, so it was probably just my problem. One thing I did not like was the service. The hostess was very nice and accommodating, but the food took a long time to get out. There was a movie on in the bar, and I feel like some of the staff was just standing there watching the movie. Other than that it was a good experience. We got off to a rocky start here, let me explain. Hubby ordered a beer, we ordered one of the special sushi rolls as an app (the snowcrab roll), I ordered drunken spaghetti with shrimp and hubby ordered spicy mix seafood. We waited and waited and waited and our snowcrab roll was not appearing. Then the waitress brings our main dishes and we said where is the snowcrab roll? She put our dishes on the table and left to find our roll. It was sitting by the sushi chef waiting to be picked up. At this point I was unhappy as we waited so long for the appetizer and then here we get the meals at the same time. But we said ok, put everything down. Well I'm glad I had ordered the appetizer now because my drunken spaghetti was made with chicken and the one taste of it prior to realizing it was chicken was that it tasted like a watered down bowl of pasta water. The waitress took it away, I was happy that they made the mistake as I would have been very unhappy with this meal, and I ordered the sushi combination dinner. I ate 1/2 of the snowcrab roll while hubby ate his entire delicious meal s l o w l y so he would still have food when mine arrived. Mine came pretty quickly after and like the snowcrab roll, this was sensational, fresh tasting sushi. The kind that melts in your mouth and you love every piece. The waitress was very nice and kept shaking our hands and saying please come back another time. We will probably give it another try and hope the service improves. The decor is both sleek and calming, and we were comfortable in our booth, I just would have liked to get the correct food in a reasonable amount of time. And I'll stay away from the drunken spaghetti, enough said. read more

Tucked away in little Wake Forest I found delicious Thai food!! The coconut soup is so rich in flavor! YUM!! Makes my mouth water as I type!!! Plus I have tried several dishes off the menu..... all wonderful but my favorite dish there by far is the spicy basil chicken! ( you can ask for them to make it hotter if you like! =) I crave that stuff!! The resturant is large enough to have a party but intimate enough to sneak in a lunch date! Just love it!!! read more

Tried this place because of a Groupon I had. The thai here is pretty good. In fact their spring rolls were very good and very memorable however my issue with this place is that they wanted to charge me $2 to add onion to my Pad See Ew. $2!?!?!?!? I could buy a whole bag of onions for $2. I waited for the candid camera guy to jump out but he never did; all of the other places I go to do it for no extra charge. It's so ridiculous. If they let me add onions for a more responsible price (or even free) I would be back. Until that time, I won't be back. read more

I was really eager to try this restaurant and find a replacement for my beloved Kob Kun Thai back in DC. Admittedly it had just rained outside, but it must have been 99% humidity inside. You stuck to the vinyl seat in the booth. Air conditioning anyone? I was surprised to see that they did not have Tom Yum soup (isn't that a staple in Thai restaurants) but was told that their Hot and Sour soup was very similar, so I ordered the cup. I also ordered tofu pad thai, my staple, and a Thai beer. Despite the fact that there was only 1 other table filled in the restaurant (and several people at the bar), it took 15 minutes to get my beer. I think they were preparing a large catering order, because the wait staff was running around frantically. Finally the cook came out in her apron and gave me my beer, apologizing for the wait. She literally ran back into the kitchen afterward. It took another 10 minutes to get my very disappointing Hot and Sour soup, which was neither hot as in spicy or hot as in hot, and I was not given any fried noodles with it. (Isn't that a Thai staple too?) The Pad Thai itself was different, but not bad. It had a thick sauce on it, whereas I am used to a fluffier, drier dish, but the taste was decent. It had no crushed peanuts on it. Isn't that a staple? I ate it all, anyway. Ambience, environment, service was mediocre at best. The Hot and Sour soup was grade D (and overpriced). The Pad Thai was decent. All in all, I give this place 2 stars at best. I hope there are some better Thai restaurants in Raleigh. read more

Food was good, large portions and tasted good. Clean restaurant. Problem was when paying, I guess using physical cash causes confusion. Check was $28.04 and paid with 2 $20 bills. Server came back and didn't bring change, said they didn't give change when cash was used. What??? After explaining this was illegal and was actually theft we got change. He brought 2 each $5 Bill's and 6 ones. We had to explain that we should get back $11.96. After two trips back to wherever he got our correct change. Wow! read more

This has become one of our favorite restaurants in Wake Forest. We go for the Sushi. Disappointed that they no longer offer 25% of sushi on Sundays, we used to go twice a mth for that awesome deal. We always order the California Flash Fried and the Beef Kimbab Rolls, it's not on the menu but it was a special once and we became addicted. The sushi dishes we've had have all been excellent, very fresh and a good size, especially for the price. Overall, Thai Cafe is an excellent value. The service is very good, with attentive staff who were happy to help us learn about Thai cuisine since we're relative noobs. Their banana coconut cake is absolutely delicious too! We don't even really like coconut but we order it every visit. We try to get there as often as possible, especially for the awesome lunch specials. read more

Not bad, not bad at all. I tend to be very picky about my pad thai, and having just recently relocated to the area, I've been on a quest to find a great pad thai restaurant. I was not a fan of Thai Cafe's version of the dish, however, I did enjoy a delicious beef appetizer which was full of flavor and delicious. Respectable Thai. I ordered the Vegetable Chicken Stir Fry and my husband the beef. Generous portions, flavorful with crisp, bright vegetables. Sauce is balanced/ not over powering, plus they add or diminish the heat index as per request. Okay so after reading the other reviews hubby and I got take out. This is what we ordered and the review: 1. Pad Thai: First off no peanuts on it and second the seasoning was terrible and tasted mostly like paprika? There was hardly any shrimp, scallions and sprouts in the dish and the noodles were way overcooked. 2. Baby corn with pork: it was okay , nothing special though and tasted more like something you would get at a upscale chinese restaurant vs thai. 3. Spicy coconut soup with chicken: this was good but again hardly anything in the broth: I added some rice from home and more mushrooms and then it was excellent. Overall this Thai place is close to home but unless the food gets better and tastes more like thai I will cont to make the long trek to either the Thai house in raleigh (possibly the best pad thai in the triangle) or Lemon Grass in north raleigh. What a let down I was soo hopping for good Thai in wake forest...Now we did get take out but another neighbor of mine went in to dine and said the same thing---not very Thai and food was disapointing. read more

The food was very good! When we arrived it took a little while to get seated (I think they were short-staffed) but after that things went well. They have a new cook, i ordered my normal dish (panang curry) & got masaman. There was only 2 tables occupied and yet service was very slow. I had asked for a spoon (some Asians eat with a spoon not a fork) and got a plastic soup spoon (i didn't get this soup spoon, when they served me my Tom ka. I had a normal silver soup spoon, then why now?). So i asked for a normal spoon, the waitress either had a hangover cause she was in a bad mood. I don't get it, it was as if I was bothering her... There were two other workers but none of them helped they were talking. The table was very sticky. I had to asked for my check cause no one came around to notice I was done. When I got my change they gave me a bunch of pennies. Nope, I won't be back ! read more
