I came here for the first time on a complete whim. A friend was in town and wanted to grab lunch so we chose a place near my job. She actually looked up places and suggested Thai Chiang Mai. I never even knew it existed. It is tucked away on a side road that's easy to miss but now that I know where it is I'll definitely visit again. The inside is quant and charming and the service was attentive. I chose the yellow curry as it was on the lunch special for the day. Also opted for the papaya salad. It's a staple for me at most Thai restaurants and I can truthfully say this establishment had one of the best there is. It was sweet and spicy and vinegary .. well balanced. The yellow curry had so much flavor and just the right amount of spice. The lunch special comes with spring rolls and they were perfectly crispy. I will note they are on the more expensive side for lunch combos in the area but it's worth it. My lunch was over $30. I saw where the specials online had some marked as $8 but I believe they were about $17. Just a heads up. read more

I love Thai food and this is one of most favorite Thai restaurants. Our family has bee coming here for decades and they consistently cook and serve the yummiest dishes full of flavor. You can't beat the ground chicken basil, so good! Most recently I enjoyed Pranang curry with chicken. The curry sauce/broth was savory, rich, and simply delicious, while the tender chicken and sugar snap beans add to the savoriness of the curry. Give this place a try! read more

My mom was in town, and a friend of ours highly recommended this restaurant! After arriving, we realized we had been there, but it had been years! BTW-it is as awesome as we remembered! First we ordered the Spring Rolls with shrimp! They came out super fast! We were very hungry so we really appreciated how fast our waitress brought out our drinks, appetizer, and the rolls they provide as a first course. Oh, and all of the dipping sauces were amazing! Pretty sure my eyes rolled back into my skull with delight when I tried their peanut sauce!!!!! My mom and I both had the Thai Red Curry (#33 Kaeng Dang); tons of great coconut and curry flavor. The rice was perfect! A very hearty meal! We stayed long enough to enjoy their live music! Not too loud to make it hard to enjoy some family chatter at the table! Excellent food and service!! We literally happened upon this restaurant while In town for GHOE. Our server was super friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. She answers questions we didn't even ask just based on things we said while perusing the menu. We started with papaya salad, chicken satay, and Tom Kha. The papaya was light and refreshing. The satay had good flavor. The Tom Kha gave the warmth I needed. For my meal, we had the basil fried rice with chicken, sweet and sour with chicken, and the Pad Kee Wan with chicken. All of it was delicious. They have a gluten free soy sauce to use if requested. They offer wine and beer also. They have booths, tables and bar seating. They even have a stage for karaoke. We will definitely visit Thai Chiang Mai the next time we're in town!! read more

I went here for my birthday dinner in November and got the Massaman curry because I LOVE it! I have been here a number of times and the food is amazing, hot, and consistent. The service is quick and respectful. This is a great place to come for a dinner or quick lunch with easy parking off the main road. read more

This place never disappoints. There are a total of 5 Thai restaurants in this hwy 68 vicinity and this one is probably first or second on the list because of flavor and price. I love that they have the spice rack which some do not. Also when you order they ask if you want the lunch or dinner portion which is good because you may be dinner portion hungry at lunch time. The lunch size is always fine for me because they do not skimp. Some places have morphed their pad Thai sauce to a "ketchup" like taste but not this location. I will soon find another reason to visit this one as if I need an excuse to have Thai anytime! Plus they have a reward system and those who know, know that I love a discount. read more

It's been about a week since I've been here and I couldn't have been more disappointed. I went here seeing the impressive reviews, but my experience was nothing like theirs. First the place is so pretty inside. Very homey with karaoke going to keep spirits high. A bunch of Knick knacks every where displaying so much cultural importance. For starters their specialty Chiang Mai wings which were apparently a favorite. Personally there was nothing special about the wings. I thought they had homemade recipe they would add to it, but if they did i didn't notice it. They really were just wings dipped in sweet Thai chili sauce. No crunch or any taste at all. For entrees I ordered the crying tiger. Maybe it is my fault for eating a grilled steak at a Thai place but this wasn't one of their best either. Another bland entree that also carried a unique smell to the plate. Finally service. I sat in the back next to about 3 small parties and we all shared a waitress. Now I know she was working those other tables as well as the massive party of 10 center of the place by herself , but it felt like I was the only one left out. She repeatedly checked on the other small parties while I went unnoticed for a while. Now she was the only waitress at the time and I can understand if she was over worked, but It did feel as if she was only attending the other parties. Food alone would be my reason to not return for a while. I'm not sure how other Thai places compare but this may be far from the best. read more

Excellent Spring Rolls, Tom Ka Gai Soup and Mango Sticky Rice - service was great - good location

We were in town for work for 3 nights and ended up eating her two of those nights. The food and service was very good. We tried several of the curries and noodle dishes and all were great. The Tom Ka soup was my favorite though. I got shrimp the first night but vegetable the second it was better. This is a great place to visit and hope to be back again some day. read more

I absolutely love this place! The owner, and everyone are amazing. The food is always made fresh. It's delicious!! Inside is decorated nicely, the entrance is lovely with all of the plants!! **This was a Pleasant Surprise. ** We pulled over to look for a place to eat and I looked up to see... Thai Chiang Mai. It is hidden off the road. Didn't even know it existed. NOW we KNOW. The decor is unique to their traditions which is wonderful to view. Surprised the music playing over head is soft jazz. Very nice just unexpected. They have a karaoke machine which could be fun, depending on who is entertaining. When you are seated they bring you a fried veggie roll with a unique watery consistency liquid for dipping. Looks like small strings of carrots in the sauce. Very good flavor. Our meal was simple and flavorful. We both order vegetables with beef The rice was very tender and moist. The brown sauce was light and brothy. They make each meal when ordered which is a PLUS +. There is a wonderful bar with many options of wines and beers from other countries. Watching the meals go by for other diners I was making my list of things to get next time. The pictures were a bit dated so I jumped up and had some fun. The restaurant is clean, open and welcoming. Looks like they have a full garden outside during the summer. Love that they grow many of the herbs & veggies they put in their meals. There are man man many plants all around inside, which I love. Gave to place a fresh air feel. If you haven't been or heard of this place... plan to dine here (or take out) you won't be disappointed. Really happy we stumbled here tonight! PS. The most amazing thing about this place is THE FOOD! The aromatic flavors of the dishes make it sit the top of my Thai food list. I've tried their delicious curry's, the pad Thai (best ever), and the chicken basil which might be my favorite. AND their ground chicken fresh rolls are in a league of their own. Every Thai restaurant lives or dies based on the quality of their curry. And their curry is good. The panang curry and tom yum are flavorful, and have just a nice kick with medium spice. My score is based almost exclusively on the curry. There should be more rice served with it, though. Their Thai tea is good. Their fried ice cream is more like ice cream on a fried dough thing, but tastes effectively like fried ice cream. Ample space to park. Generally good service. Decent decor (not great, but clearly maintained). Spring rolls come complementary. They have an in house musician playing music, who manages to keep a good volume. There is karaoke, so depending on who steps up, your ears might bleed. read more

I was in town for work & stopped here for a solid meal before heading to the airport for my flight home. The food was excellent, the hot spice level was actually HOT (Sometimes I really regret moving to the Midwest with all its aromaphobia)! The owners were both very friendly & attentive. This was some of the most mediocre "Thai food" we've had anywhere. We got the chicken fried rice ($16, completely flavorless, good portion) that I tried to douse with soy sauce just to give it some flavor (without much luck), tom kah ($9 for a pint, $10.50 with a protein that tasted like colored coconut cream otherwise, flavorless, mediocre portion), chicken satay (super dry, mostly flavorless, sad portions) and papaya salad (decent portion, flavorless outside of the chili spice they use). The quality of this meal was substandard by shopping mall food court quality standards and cost over $50 before tip. Highly overpriced for the quality of food. I grabbed a togo menu so we could order from here again as it's on my way home. That menu is in the trash. Go ANYWHERE else. We will not be returning here. If someone gave us a gift card, I wouldn't even regift it. It's that bad. read more

I'm so so grateful Thai Chiang Mai is back open. They were closed a bit because of Covid, but they're back in business and operating with a limited amount of seating in their dining room. I've been several times and still have been seated in no time at all. The food is just as stellar as it always has been. I've been coming to Thai Chiang Mai since I was a young girl. Their family had a location in the middle of High Point and my sister and I fell in love with Thai cuisine because of their family. It's always been a family affair and I'm so grateful for them. Really everything here is delicious, but a few of my favorites are the Larb Tofu, Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice, and any of the curry dishes. I also love their fresh spring rolls. You can ask for these to be substituted for the fried spring rolls. I believe they add $1.50, but in my opinion, totally worth it! You should definitely come try them out or order takeout. The food was flavorful, the service was good, and due to needing it to go they quickly got us paper plates and plastic ware which was exactly what we needed back at the hotel. I have been to Thai Chiang Mai on a few occasions now and have enjoyed every experience I have had! The food is fresh and delicious, the service is fast and friendly, the have dine in and are adhering to COVID safety protocols. They also have daily lunch specials which come with an egg roll. One thing to note, Their mild is American medium temperature so be careful when ordering your spice level!! I have tried Tom Yum soup (YUM), Basil Chicken, Pad Kee Mow, Pad Thai, and Green Curry - everything has fantastic! I had very high expectations for Thai Chiang Mai. Unfortunately, with one exception, they did not deliver. I ordered a bowl of tom yum soup and the pad Thai chicken lunch special both with spice level of "hot". The order taker was less than enthusiastic. The tom yum was excellent. What really stood out was the generous portion of fresh vegetables. The broth was properly spiced and delicious as well. Things went south when the pad Thai chicken arrived. It was missing the bean sprouts, which was one of the primary reasons I ordered it, and was also very bland, though I had ordered it "hot". I decided to ask for some added spice, but the order taker would not look up from her phone to acknowledge my gaze. I finally got up and went over to her and asked for some spice. It helped considerably. But it should not have had to.  A few minutes later, someone came out from the kitchen area (manager? owner?) and told me the pad Thai chicken was supposed to have bean sprouts (yes, I know), but the delivery truck had not brought them. She was very nice, but I should have been told this earlier so that I could change my order if I so desired. When I went to the register to pay, I was rather surprised at the high price I paid for this lunch. Despite the delicious tom yum soup and the lovely atmosphere, the price, the bland, bean sprout-less pad Thai chicken, and the disinterested waitstaff drag this place down from a 4 to a 3 for me. read more

Really happy to be immediately seated during the lunch rush at 12:30 on a Wednesday with all the offices surrounding this area. This place locates right off I-40. If you've driven on I-40 before, you know how limited the food options, unless you go 10-15 minutes off the road. I am very happy that I don't have to go to yet another mediocre smokehouse because I am limited by time. The restaurant spends good effort in decorating the exterior and interior. It does bring back some memory of dining in Thailand. The beer list is fantastic and reasonably priced. Food-wise, definitely get the Tom Yum Talay and Tom Ka Talay. They will bring you this pot with flame in the middle. Amazing presentation. The broth is full of flavor. A good blend of coconut and lemongrass. Absolutely delicious.
