I love sparkling sake so I was happy to see 4 options to choose from; this is rare since most Asian fusion restaurants tend to only offer one or two. I liked the ambience of the restaurant and our server was pleasant. The orange dragon roll with mango was sublime and I will definitely return just for that. On the downside, I found the other things I ordered somewhat inedible. The edamame wasn't steamed enough so it was incredibly difficult to pop them out of their pods to eat. I got tired of trying. My friend ordered the vegetable tempura app and she offered me a sweet potato since that is my favorite. It hadn't cooked all the way through in the center so again difficult to eat. The other roll I ordered had eel in it. Now I have eaten quite a lot eel before but I never had tasted eel so chewy. The mouth feel was so gross that I ended up spitting it out. I think this place has a lot of good qualities so I am willing to give them another shot but I would like to remind their chefs to slow down to ensure that the food is cooked more properly so it would be more enjoyable to its patrons. read more

We showed up at 220 on a Saturday and didn't realize until we were leaving that they close at 3 on Saturday. I feel bad for not checking the hours first but our food and service were spectacular. Our orders came with some soup and a vegetable spring roll. I'm not wild about spring rolls in general but these were well cooked, super crispy. Celebrated my wife's birthday last week by checking o it a "new to us" Thai spot. We are by this spot often for Monday run club, but never get the chance to try it, since they aren't open on Mondays. So my wife requested we go on a Sunday evening and give it a try. We were greeted and quickly seated as soon as we walked in. The menu was large and very extensive, containing a lot of sushi, hibachi and Thai options. To start we got an order of calamari, which surprised us when it came out as large chunks, rather than the more standard rings. They were tasty though and came with a spicy Mayo and a sweet and sour sauce for dipping, both of which were great with the calamari. For my entree I got my go to, yellow chicken curry, which was great, and large portions. I ended up having a good bit left, and brought home, cooked up more rice and had a lunch for the next day. Overall, we enjoyed it. The service was good, food came out quickly and was full of flavor, and price was a little high, but in line with other Thai in the area. Though not a large space, The Basil Leaf doesn't lack for seating. The ambiance aims for classy without being stuffy and largely succeeds. Service was attentive throughout our meal. The Basil Leaf's menu features a variety of Japanese (appetizers, sushi, and teriyaki/hibachi entrees) and Thai (appetizers, soups, salads, curries, noodles, and more) offerings. There were no unexpected finds, but if you know the cuisine well enough to know what you want, you'll likely find it here. I had a Pad Thai craving and, my wife and I ended up going with a chicken Pad Thai, a beef pineapple fried rice, and a Crab Rangoon starter. The food was tasty (good amount of sauce on the noodles and sweetness balanced with curry notes in the fried rice), and The Basil Leaf will match your desired spice level. While the plating aims for aesthetic sophistication (i.e. carrots cut into a flower shape), serving the rice in a rectangular block was an odd touch. Both entrees were generously portioned. At $15 and $17, neither broke the bank though the prices are a bit higher than the nearest competitor. All told, The Basil Leaf isn't likely to become my favorite Thai eatery, but it is one that I would feel no qualms about coming back to. read more

I think this is the best Thai restaurant I've ever visited! I happily drive 20 miles from eastern Guilford County just to dine here. The food is incredible--my favorite is the Pho with any protein, but every dish I've tried has been equally amazing. One memorable lunch, the chef made us two sushi rolls that were not only the best I've ever eaten but also so beautifully presented that the owners took photos before serving them! Typically I grab the orange chicken, fried rice, or curry dishes from here but I made in the mood for some sushi. I got the sunset roll which consisted of shrimp tempura, avocado, and cream cheese. As a new sushi lover, I still get nervous trying new rolls but this one was amazing. The 8-piece roll was more than enough and was a decent price so I was overall very satisfied. We came here for our anniversary after seeing a post on Facebook and checking it out on Yelp. We got there a little before the normal dinner hour (5:45 PM) and the place was packed. We were shown to the only open table and brought water quickly. We looked through the rather extensive menu. They have a variety asian food styles: Thai, Japanese and Sushi. There is a lot of variety. We had the Sa Tay Kay appetizer. The chicken was grilled to perfection ... not underdone, very tender and not overdone either. The sauces were great. My wife had the Teriyaki chicken. She raved about it. I had the Peanut chicken special. It was outstanding. Service was very good. Several servers checked on us and they seemed to have a system for getting food to diners as soon as it was done in the kitchen, and they worked as a team. Basil Leaf Sushi and Thai is a 30 minute drive from our house. We will definitely be back. read more

Very good, but not my favorite Thai food in this area, which has a surprisingly large variety of restaurants to choose from for this particular cuisine. The Basil Leaf I would say has the nicest atmosphere for a date night, as it occupies the corner of a nearly brand new shopping center and is very modern on the inside compared to some of the other area options. In our case, we got the meal to go. When it got home, the hot dishes were still piping hot and the cold dishes were nice and cool, all good there. I tend to gravitate toward the same dishes for testing a new thai place, drunken noodles and their Som Tum or Papaya salad. In this case I got both. The papaya salad was excellent. Not best around, but very good. I was quite happy with it. The drunken noodles, while good enough, I considered to be a little bland. The sauce they're supposed to be "drunk" in was not very flavorful. My wife was very happy with her dishes, an order of pad thai and a sweet potato sushi roll. Overall, I'd come back here to dine in and maybe try a curry and get another round of papaya salad. I always enjoy visiting The Basil Leaf when I'm visiting Greensboro. Every time that I attempt to venture out and try a different thai spot, I'm always led back to The Basil Leaf. The staff is very friendly and efficient. There is one lady in particular who is always upbeat when greeting and serving guests. The food is fresh and very good portion size for dinner. I have not tried any of their wines or other alcoholic beverages so I cannot speak on that part of the menu, but the main Thai entrees that they do offer is flavorful. My go to is usually basil friend rice -- I like mine extra spicy so be sure to mention that when ordering or it will not be the typical "thai" spicy. The dishes were also plated nicely. The only recommendation that I have is for the staff to acknowledge people more efficiently once they enter into the restaurant. I got there a little after two and the gentleman who greeted me at the door indicated that they would be closing soon for the end of lunch and wanted to make me aware. I was made to feel like they were glad I had chosen to dine there. Location is easy to find and very close to the Palladium center in Highpoint. Now.....I had chicken Pad Thai and the dish was sort of low on flavor and the noodles had a bit of a sweet edge with the flat strips of chicken seeming a bit dry.
