Stopped in today for the lunch special. I've had the same thing several times before here and it's generally really good. I ordered the chicken curry pop with pad thai as my side. The chicken curry pop was great, good flavor and spice. I think this is my 10th time ordering it! The pad Thai this time was only so-so, it's usually much better so you'll have to try it out for yourself. It's a small place with just a cook and server, as it was lunch there was a bit of a wait but we eventually got seated and the food came out very quickly. I can't say enough good things about the food here. I came here a few times before and dream about the taste of the Rainbow Chili entree that is so authentically Thai, made with flavors we don't eat here like "kra-chai," a root that tastes sort of like pachouli, and green peppercorns in clusters on stems. Bright purple eggplant, fiery red bell pepper, generous seafood (shrimp and squid) with two big scallops that surprised me with their generosity! The chef pays such close attention to flavors that every dish I've had is absolutely delicious. The woman who serves here is super-sweet, this whole town is nice people. She practically gave away the recipe of this dish because i love it so much... two dinners in a row plus lunch.. first the chicken, then the seafood, then the pork. Very tasty dishes. We ordered the Yellow curry, Rad na and deep fried spring rolls. Yellow curry (mild) still had some 'kick' to it, but not over powering. Settled for the fried spring rolls instead of the originally ordered fresh spring roll (they were out less than an hour from opening, must not have had a recent shipment or something). Rad na was tasty, but out of all the Rad na's we've had (including many in Bangkok), this was by far waaaay to thick of a soup. They got a little happy on the corn starch. It was way too gooey to slurp up so we just fished out the noddles, veggies and meat. A shame. Overall, we'd return the next time we're up that way. read more

The staff were super nice, and they have a killer lunch special, but I'm rating 3 stars because the food teetered between being good and subpar. I also ordered a tofu curry, and got all chicken instead the first time (which they replaced immediately and very apologetically), and a piece of chicken with the rest tofu the second time. Okay if you're not picky with your food, but not if you're a vegetarian like me. The pad Thai was a nice option to have instead of rice with the curry (part of the lunch special), however it did taste like there was ketchup in it. The lunch special also came with one curry puff, which was a little greasy but had good flavors. The salad that came with the lunch special was delicious, had a great peanut dressing and reminded me of Gado Gado for anyone familiar with Indonesian food! I went there for a quick lunch , I got the wong tong soup, the flavor or the broth was really good and rich the wong tongs were tasty , I wish that the soup had more vegetables like snap peas or carrots because it only had spinach but it was good , I also got the desert fried bananas . I have those a 10/10 because they were so tasty , they were deep fried and rolled in an egg roll I think and had honey drizzle in it and they were really good . Overall I have the restaurant 9/10 the food was really good and the service was quick . They are a small restaurant , they have around 8 tables and they're next to two other restaurants. They only do takeout during covid. Food is ok but i would not bother getting takeout from here, not unless you have couple hours to waste. Today was our second time ordering takeout from here, so it was not a one off experience. They opened for dinner at 5p. I phoned in my order at 5:05p, just because it took so long last time. I finally got thru and placed the order, a total of 3 dishes, nothing difficult to make. I was told 45 min. I went over to pickup after 40 min and the pickup line was quite long (just like last time). I ended up spending 50 min in line just to pickup my order. Several people were still waiting to pickup food order they placed at 5p at 6:45p. When i finally got in to pick up (1 hr 50 min after placing my order), it was still not ready. The lady yelled the order back to the kitchen and voila 5 min later, my order was ready. It was ridiculous that it would 2 hours to cook the simple dishes ordered. Why would i order takeout if i have to stand to wait for them for hours. I could have gone somewhere to have a eat-in meal before my order here was ready. Food wise, they were ok. Curry is not bad except for the meat. They are just tasteless chunk. Pad Thai was just ok Until they can improve their process, i am not going back. Hands down best local spot in truckee. All these bay folk that don't understand can bring their complaints back home where they have an abundance of options. These are the hardest working employees out of any restaurant I have been to. It is always the same (ONE) lady answering the phone for TOGO's (and all your dumb questions i.e. "WiLL tHEre Be A WaIT?!") seating people, waiting tables, running your food, BUSSING your tables, preparing your delicious Thai iced tea, ringing you up and she does it with some damn hustle! She is the absolute best. She stays so composed while running around the chaotic-ness, as a fellow restaurant industry employee I COULD NOT DEAL WHAT THIS LADY DEALS WITH. A true queen & I appreciate her so much. This is a VERY small restaurant & yes, food does take a bit wait but it's worth it! You're on mountain time--take a second, enjoy your time and appreciate the service you are being given. You are not entitled to a faster service than anyone else because you're in a "hurry". Everyone knows you're not, nothing is open in truckee past 9, where do you really have to be? The food is delicious; I recommend the yellow curry with chicken, the red curry is spicy but chef's kiss honestly I have never had a bad item off the menu. This Thai restaurant was super convenient located just across the parking lot from our hotel. Arriving just after dinner opening at 5pm, we had our choice of tables, but within the hour the place was packed! When we left at a little after 6pm, there was a waiting line for tables. If you dine here on a weekend, get here early! The crowd here looked very outdoorsy upscale in all their REI and Patagonia clothing, hey this is Truckee! The service was as fast as it could be with all the take out orders and tables filling. It was very typical Thai polite service. We ordered more food than we needed. but we wanted to taste different dishes. Family style dining is the way to go with Thai food. We started with the Larb Chicken. It was a little coarser chopped than some versions I've had in the Sacramento area or back in San Diego. Every chef has his own way, so that keeps things interesting. I thought it could have used more lime, but my friend thought is was fine. Then we had wok fried sliver noodles along with the Spicy Sweet Basil stir fry with Pork and lastly the Panang Curry with steamed rice. Each dish we ordered was $12.00, so it sort of adds up. The Silver noodles were very good and had a nice smoky flavor. The Pork with Spicy Sweet Basil was very good as well, with a good basil aroma. The portion was a little small for the price I thought. The Panang curry was on the thin side, more watery than I like. When the curry is just a little thicker, it sticks to the meats and veggies better. It was just a little heavy on the peanuts as well and a little light on the chicken with a lot of veggie fillers like those mini corn cobs. This portion was smaller than most Thai places I've been. Overall, we has a pleasant experience and the food was by no means poorly done. It all actually tasted very good, I just wish the portions were a little more generous, as they were, it was just adequate for the price. I guess you have to consider you're at Tahoe basically and everything will be higher priced. The restaurant itself is very elegant and nice without being stuffy. It's by no means a hole in the wall, like we have in suburban Sacramento's strip malls with low prices. Your feet don't stick to the floor here either. Ordered takeout from here on a whim and it was so worth it - great, quick service on the phone and in person. We got avocado curry, pad Thai chicken, crispy chicken wontons, basil fried rice and veggie tempura for four people and this was more than enough food. Will definitely be eating here again. This is going to be my first 1 star review, and hopefully my last. Our party of 7 came here to order take-out while we take advantage of the Tesla Supercharge. We ordered about 15 portions for the rest of the family. We were told it would be an hour wait, and that's perfect for our plan to charge and leave. And now it's been 2 hours. The service here is EXTREMELY SLOW!!!! We had to ask the host when our food will be ready because they don't even bother to check in and update us. Was in Truckee for a quick visit and it seemed like this was the only Thai place in town that we could find. Stopped in for lunch. Quick service, reasonable prices and some of the best dang curries we have had in a long time. Only reason to knock off one star is that it seems that every time we eat at a Thai restaurant, the service is just blah. Efficient and quick but no personality. This place is so popular - there were people lined up outside for to-go orders even during COVID! We tried calling in the order but couldn't get ahold of them so we went in person to order (advice from a previous reviewer.) The service was quick and efficient. It was a really busy night for takeout and we waited 1 hour but it was definitely worth it. The curry was delicious, fragrant, and had lots of vegetables as well as chicken. The chicken satay was our favorite - they are generous skewers and the cucumber salad with it was so good! The pad see ew had good texture, a little bit sweet for our taste but still hot and tasty. The Hawaiian fried rice was not soggy or too salty, but wasn't our favorite dish. We have peanut allergies and let them know about it; we had no problems with all the dishes. Giving 4 stars for their good service and tasty food, especially after a long day of skiing.
