Okayyyy-- I'm really excited to write this review, but take it with a grain of salt, because the "five star rating" is really only based on one item. I got this to-go via DoorDash. I had been on the road traveling for work and was tired of eating out at restaurants, so was like, "I just want to eat in my hotel tonight." So to note-- Panang Curry is hard to eat "to-go" -- but I made it work. I didn't care for the cream cheese wontons. They were just plain, and kind of basic. But honestly, I think I thought I was ordering "crab Rangoons" LOL So here's why they get FIVE stars-- the Panang Curry was the BEST Panang Curry I've ever had. And that is my "go-to" dish anytime I try a new Thai restaurant. And this, honestly, was possibly the best Panang Curry I've ever had. At first I was like, "what the heck, the to-go container isn't even filled all the way to the top." But then after tasting it, I was like, "oh, okay, I don't care. This is SO good." Whenever I'm back in Minneapolis, I would get this again. However, I cannot comment on the ambiance/atmosphere, as I didn't eat there... maybe next time. We'll see! read more

A somewhat charming place that had an authentic ambiance. However, the food that we ordered, Rainbow Medley and Pineapple Fried Rice, were only fair. The taste improved after we stole a couple of squeeze bottles of soy sauce and hoisin sauce from the wait station. The green tea was good, but it was not delivered until after we ate our meal; we needed to remind the server that we ordered some. The restaurant was lightly busy, but they were obviously understaffed, so overall service was slow. Only one server worked front of house, and a person from the kitchen occasionally came out to help. Perhaps they were the only two people on staff. I saw some potential customers leave after not getting waiting on at all. I saw others wondering when they were going to get attention. I see that this place gets a number of good reviews, so I hope that my experience was an anomaly. Maybe you'll have better luck! read more

Went here on a business trip. The waiter was super prompt and took our orders right away. The apps came out first which were all delicious. The wings surprisingly were my favorite thing we ate. I also go the pad see ew for my main and it hit the spot. The place was pretty big and had a good amount of seating. Over all great place. I would go back. read more

We went here with a large group - 14 people. (We've also eaten here multiple times as a family of 4) The waiter was very patient (several 10 - 12 year olds that were kinda confused when they were ordering and as food arrived). Everything was delicious, boba was tasty, and they were able to divide our bill. THEY HAVE TEA SALAD!! This is the only place in the twin cities that I've found with tea salad. It is delicious, I'm not sure why it's called tea salad. My guess is that the green powder on top is finely ground green tea. It has an earthy, slightly bitter compliment to the bright, fresh salad. I'm coming back just for this salad on Friday. They also have a photo area which was great for a kid photo shoot while we waited for our food. The food was a tad slow for our big group and dishes were delivered as they were ready. When I've come as a group of 4 everything was prompt. For dinner I ordered the Pad Akra Pao with pork and it was excellent. Had a very good flavor, some of the best bell peppers I have had at a restaurant in quite a long time. Our take out order: beef jerky with side of sticky rice, massaman curry with chicken, drunken noodles with beef, and basil chicken stir fry. The food was good overall. I thought the massaman curry was the highlight of the meal. Didn't love the peanuts in it, would order without next time. My husband thought the basil stir fry stole the show. The flavor profile was new and exciting. Feel like you can never go wrong with drunken noodles.... But we ordered the beef, but it was chicken. Didn't want to make a fuss so close to when the shop closed and already made it home, so ate the chicken. I requested medium heat for all dishes, and didn't seem to come with much of a kick, but they did send a lot of chili oil sides. The chili oil was not great and ended up using our own. The beef jerky was really crispy and crunchy - more than I like. I like it to be a bit softer and chewier. The side of sticky rice was half mushy and we had to eat around it, we did order a second side of sticky rice, so thankfully we didn't run out. read more

I dine out in restaurants 5 days a week due to my work. Like any frequent diner, I have had my ups and downs. This week at Flamin' Thai was nothing but up... It was a stratospheric experience. Chef JR put out creation after creation of some of the most stunning sushi and sashimi of my young life. (It was my 62nd birthday celebration, so I get to say young...) Our bartender Kelly was so very friendly and so very accommodating, she made it feel like Flamin' Thai was our place for the night. Ate here for the first time yesterday and the drunken noodles were delicious! I ordered this dish with fried tofu, which was perfectly crispy. My friend said her yellow curry was good. The owner was very kind and gave us complimentary Jasmine tea which we really appreciated. I don't think they serve alcohol. This isn't a fancy place, the ambience is just so so, but I'm ok with that considering the affordable prices. This is a great place to go for takeout or if you're going to Theater in the Round which is next door. I would eat here again and try something different. read more

Great savory Thai food - a solid 4 stars! I had a good first visit to Flamin Thai. I grabbed some spring rolls, a coconut milk & peanut curry dinner, and fried ice cream (with green tea ice cream). Every bite was excellent. The customer service was awesome. And the prices were surprisingly reasonable. Unfortunately, Flamin Thai no longer offers sushi because wholesale prices are too high and customers near the U of M (many are students) weren't buying any of it. Bummer. I lived on the west bank for several years back in the 80s. I have many fond memories of the West Bank. But I was pretty bummed out after I left. The manager gave me an earful about food prices and worse, the general degradation, the state of disrepair, and crime on the West Bank. The obvious things you see are lots of store fronts that are boarded up with graffiti all over the place. Sad. In addition to the high food prices and the general state of disrepair, there's a big crime problem on the West Bank...lots of stolen cars, stolen purses, robberies, etc. He said there was a car stolen in front of their building last week, while they ran in to grab some food to-go. And last week a woman on the patio had her purse stolen. Wow! As a result of all these problems, Flamin Thai is moving. When their lease is up they plan to relocate to NE, close to Surdyke's Liquors. I ordered from here through Uber Eats last night and was blown away! I ordered chicken Green Curry and beef Pad Thai and it was so flavorful with each bite. The Green Curry had a nice little kick to it and has to be one of the top spots for green curry in Minneapolis. Although the Pad Thai was a bit too salty for my liking, it was still really good Pad Thai. I'll be dining here again and can't wait to try more of there food soon! read more

Fast food Thai at it's best! Flamin Thai moved in where Mango Factory used to be, and I'm so glad since I'm a huge fan of Thai food. There are great deals and prices - make sure to catch their lunch deals on weekdays which includes an entree and a side. I love the Pad Thai with chicken with which I usually pair with some dumplings. The Thai tea is also so delicious. I've visited quite a number of times now and every time has been great. I have had a couple issues with getting my bill right - I was charged incorrectly during one visit, but the staff didn't know how to refund me. It was an easy fix, though! I just picked up a Thai tea instead of the refund. Great experience and I hope it's here to stay! read more

All of the staff were really friendly and attentive. They were very pleasant. I ordered takeout, so can't say much about the ambience. The food was only OK. The garden rolls had a lot of lettuce and were not very herbaceous. The samosas were OK but it seemed strange that they were there at all. The Pad Thai was OK. if there were peanuts, then I missed them. It didn't seem like there were any veggies or bean sprouts in there. I asked for extra tofu, but it seems like quite the amount that I received. Finally, there was egg in the pad Thai. I don't know who told them to do that, I've never had egg in a pad Thai before. The food wasn't bad. But I would not recommend this place if you have an affinity for Thai restaurants. read more

This is apparently a new iteration of the Asian place that was here before. They have new owners and a new menu. I came in prior to seeing a performance at Theatre in the Round, and I will probably always consider eating here before seeing a show in the neighborhood. It's a really pleasantly put together little space that's clean and classy compared with other nearby eateries. I ordered chicken Pad Thai at "medium" spice level... and it was quite hot! But, like, good though! I was kind of like, "ooh yeah!" I'll totally get it like that again, but be warned that their idea of medium is hotter than most places' mediums. Yum, though. It's a small enough space that it's really easy for the whole crew to have their eyes on what's going on and keep everyone taken care of. So you get good service on top of the good food. Beware! A 3 at this place is incredibly hot. I usually order a 3 regardless of whether the restaurant uses a 3-point or 4-point scale. I should've listened when the server told me that a 3 is hot for her. My papaya salad was barely edible. Like, hurt-your-stomach spicy. Went in during a thunder storm, soaking wet. The hostess/server was so nice to us! The whole atmosphere was really welcoming. We ordered the massaman curry which was both sweet and savior and such a good position for $15!!! We also got the pad see ew and the noodles had a good flavor and they were soft and chewy. I added some of their chilli oil and it heightened the flavor. They will be officially changing to Thai garden flow and on Sept 2-3 they'll be having a %40 off the whole menu! Moving from Chicago to Minneapolis, it's been hard for me to deal with the hit and miss quality of Asian food here. Furthermore, the general decline of Thai food in the twin cities over the past few years has been disheartening. But Flaimin Thai Cuisine is an unexpected exception and very pleasant surprise! Quite pleased with my experience so far, and this will surely become a regular habit for me. (Note that due to the pandemic this review is for takeout/delivery only.) Here is what I've had so far: PAD SEE EW: Quality ingredients, with no awful midwestern shortcuts. For example, they use Chinese broccoli rather than American broccoli florets. And the sauce is amazing. SPINACH CURRY: Delivered deconstructed, with spinach and curry sauce separate, this dish mixes together into an ample portion, and I had leftovers the next day. The curry sauce is intense. Spicy without too much heat. FRIED TOFU: Nicely fried, but once again the sauce is the star. The peanut dipping sauce was rich and fragrant. I want to put it on everything. I will update this review as I order more from here. And I surely will. I've learned not to take a good restaurant for granted these days. read more

I've been looking for a Thai restaurant in Minneapolis to satisfy my craving for a delicious Panang curry, happened to be around the corner from Flamin Thai getting coffee at 7 Corners, and am so incredibly pleased to have stopped in here! The lunch specials are incredible deals - $9.95 for most anything on their regular menu, plus a soup or other appetizer included. The star of the show here was the Panang curry - flavorful, creamy, and a delight to eat with rice. For me the hallmark of an incredible Thai curry is whether you could simply mix the curry sauce with rice and have that alone be a delicious meal, never mind whatever meat and vegetables might normally come with it. This did not disappoint. My only disappointment was that the curry wasn't hot enough for my taste, but that's on me as I didn't specify that I wanted it any hotter than usual. I'll chalk up the lack of heat to them catering to a Midwestern palette - better to err on the side of mild than make something the customer cannot eat. I'll be back for sure, this time asking for Thai hot. I'll be sure to update this review after with how that goes. read more

Have ordered take out from this place a few times before without issues. Today we ordered a fully vegetarian meal and found meat in our food. We called and they offered to redo those items. I wasn't mad and was polite on the phone When I arrived, I couldn't find parking to quickly get in and grab the food so I called and asked if they could bring it out really quick. I have never done this before and it was just asking for a favor. They could have said sorry no, we can't. They said yes, sure. So I get a guy who comes out fuming and frothing at the mouth. He doesn't say sorry we gave your Hindu wife and her entire family meat for lunch, happy wife happy life, he instead goes with, "we don't do this. We don't bring this out. You have to come in." And then he threw the food into my car and walked away. Of course I'm flabbergasted and pissed. I go in there to explain to the self righteous guy that it was a favor and that I couldn't find parking. He just said, "You done?" When I got home to try to save the meal and face with my in-laws, there was meat again in the replacement items. Of course I'm the idiot that recommended this place to order from. Anyone want 12 pork and shrimp spring rolls? They are unopened. So two lessons here for me. 1) care and kindness, they "don't do that here." Family run businesses usually are top notch with this. Excellent food if you're looking for authentic Lao/Thai food. Right amount of flavor and spices, food was fresh and hot when it arrived at the table. Waitress is personable, patient and professional. Owners are very accommodating and a hard workers. They're newer to the location, but what people should know is they're not new in the restaurant/food business. I've followed their food from a different location as well and the quality of food, flavor and passion hasn't changed. I work downtown Minneapolis so it's exciting to know they're close by! Food we always gravitate towards is the spicy beef salad, khoa piak, nam khao rice and their Lao style papaya salad. The Lao style papaya salad is true to the Lao flavor and I haven't tasted another Lao papaya salad able to compete with their's. I love love their spicy beef salad!! My FAVORITE salad dish. Chicken wings were crispy, not oily and fresh - they're perfect for my child. Sticky rice is always good with everything =D We tried their new Thai potatoes country style dish and, wow, I was impressed. Perfect amount of sweetness and salts. The potatoes was the highlight. Restaurant is clean, has a good atmosphere, can be very busy and you may wait long, but I wouldn't cut them short any stars or ratings. It's because their food is absolutely delicious and a must have again. It's a small family owned business... it's authentic and cooked to excellence, it's not fast food! If you want super fast service, go next door to Chipotle. A couple negative reviews came from getting the food delivered versus dining in... I'd be upset if the food I order for delivery was less than pleasing as well. Their food is definitely better fresh and for dine in. This was my first time in Minneapolis. My husband and I drove out here to pick up a puppy cuz ours passed away. Unfortunately this was during covid so things were a little limited. My husband and I decided we wanted to get bbq but upon walking to the bbq restaurant we wanted to go to, we got distracted by some crackheads fighting so we went back to the hotel and ordered take out. I'm so upset I didn't take pics but the food here was phenomenal. And it was delivered so fast. I always order the coconut curry and their coconut curry was PERFECT. A lot of places I go to the curry is runny but this wasn't the sauce was to die for. My husband ordered a beef dish that I can't remember the name of, but we devoured our food so fast we didn't even get a chance to take pics. Flamin Thai delivers to our office building in St Louis Park. Their menu for delivery is small, but it doesn't need to be any bigger. Order the vegetarian egg rolls and the cream cheese wontons. Rainbow (near Uptown) has the best eggrolls, but these are a very close second. (I am an eggroll aficionado). I've tasted eggrolls in probably 30 places around the city, so to give them five stars, they have to be good! The Cream Cheese Wontons are also delicious - they are large and have lots of cream cheese! It's simple, but you wouldn't believe how many restaurants get these wrong! After some of our regular Thai restaurants closed down during the pandemic we found this on Google maps,and I am so happy we did,we have only gotten takeout so far but we've eaten here at least 10 times now and I have to say it's our favorite Thai place in the city! Prompt delivery, quick response time, and very delicious food made this a wonderful pre-weekend quarantine activity that I could really enjoy. I had the spring rolls and green curry. I've never had green curry before but was looking forward to trying something new. Theirs was a delicious flavor, that definitely didn't skimp on spice. If you do not like spicy, stick to MILD as their medium had a pretty intense kick (and I like spicy).
