I don't love the addition of bell peppers in here, but that's a personal preference. 3. Pad See Ew - 3/5 - Kind of basic. Nothing made it stand out and noodles this kind of stuck together and became mushy. 4. Pad Thai - 3/5 - I've gotten this twice before, and for some reason it just tasted completely different and nothing like what Pad Thai should actually taste like. Not bad, but just not what you want when eating a Pad Thai. Noodles were also pretty mushy. 5. Steamed Fillet Snapper - 4/5 - Fairly clean and nice tasting, but just a little too plain for my taste. Still, a great option if you want something lighter for your meal. 6. Rib Eye Pepper Steak Thai Style - 4/5 - I really liked the sauce for this one and the beef was cooked very well, but the garlic they chose to put on top was extremely bitter and ruined my thoughts on the dish. The pork was very well represented, which leads me to believe they may have been made in house. The pork was the leading flavor and the sauce was a perfect match. Mark had Drunken Noodle - soft wide noodle with bamboo shoot strips with mixed veggie, egg, and basil stir-fried in fresh chili garlic sauce. He said it was extraordinary. Leftovers eaten cold were still delicious. I ordered the Mussamun Curry with Tofu served with rice. It was a lot of food and it was so very good. On a heat scale of 1 - 5 I asked for a 2. It had a nice kick, but was not spicy hot. I could have gone to a 3 and maybe, but probably not a 4. I, unlike Mark, am not a huge fan of spicy food. I do, however, appreciate spiciness that adds flavor rather than heat for heat's sake. Cold leftovers of this meal were also delicious. Oh... the iced tea. Yes, even the ice tea was outstanding. Mark insisted I try it and wow! There was a distinct, yet subtle flavor of clove. Very unique and refreshing. And here's what earned a five-star review. They offered Mark and iced tea to go. He's insightful on the menu without being pushy, remembers our unique requests, checks in on us without being too much, and strikes a great balance on engagement without intruding. I haven't been writing as many reviews as of late but Bryan's service had me dusting off the old digital keyboard. There are plenty of Vietnamese restaurants in the area, but I felt Basil House deserves a go. Essentially a hole in the wall, it's located along Palmer Highway not too far from where it meets 146. The building may look small, but the interior begs to differ somewhat. This is the third time I use "Vietnamese," but what's so unique about this eatery is that it also offers Thai dishes. I decided to do both for my first visit; I ordered a Vietnamese grilled pork rice plate and Thai chicken skewers. My orders arrived at my table at the same time, which I thought was nice. Regarding the skewers, the chicken was pretty sizable. It was so tender that it came off the stick after a bite or two. I must admit it was dry, but still a nice way to start a meal. As for the main star of the show, the rice plate, I have nothing but immense love for it. The kitchen staff wasn't stingy with the amount of meat they placed on the plate. Tender just like the chicken, the grilled pork carried a sweet taste that got even better when dipped in the accompanying fish sauce. Oh, I forgot to mention the skewers and the rice plate had cucumbers, which raised the tangy factor. I capped everything off with fried banana and vanilla ice cream. A man who I assumed was the owner of the place acted as my server. He did an outstanding job, refilling my drink and giving me extra napkins. By my estimate, Basil House is the closest Vietnamese restaurant to my house. No need to travel at least ten miles if I want my fill in ice plates, spring rolls, or even pho.

The fried chicken wings, crab puffs, and crab bomber appetizers are both just such standouts in what is often an overlooked part of the menu by many restaurants. I have nothing but praise about how this place handles food. The staff is all really nice and welcoming from entrance to walking out the door. They are very good with order additions or food/allergy restrictions and the dishes always come out in a timely (but not rushed) manner, no matter whether it is a weekday morning or a busy dinner crowd. I'd recommend the lunch special for anyone coming around that time, as the deal of egg rolls, soup, and an entree or 2-3 sushi rolls for a low price is a steal.
