Love this adorable place! Met a friend there for lunch and it's like walking into your Thai auntie's house and getting invited to share a meal. I got the pad see ew and my friend got the massaman curry with chicken. We picked a table by the window for optimal people watching! The food came out quickly and the rice that came with the curry had black forbidden rice with it and they molded it into a star! So cute! Everything was delicious! Was really hoping for a winner (as I am with every restaurant) but this left something to be desired. Ordered the summer rolls, which are pretty normal as far as summer rolls goes, the crunchy pumpkin appetizer (which albeit yummy I'm seriously convinced was acorn squash and not pumpkin) was delicious with the sauce and the pad se ew which was seriously lacking in any type of flavoring. This place was such a great surprise! My husband and I were visiting my mom in PDX and we walked over to Thai Lahnna. We sat outside and were quickly helped by a nice waitress. We lovvveee Thai food and we've had great experiences in portland with Thai places but this place definitely shot up to our fav spots. We ordered the drunken noodles (my first time) they were delicious, my husband ordered the yellow curry and he doesn't like onion they made it for him without it so bonus points (very nice of them) , and my mom got a salmon. We also got the spring rolls. The food took a little but I think we were just hungry and also it was worth the little extra wait. Definitely will be back. I was in the Milwaukie area with a friend, and he said he's always wanted to try out Thai Lahnna. So we made our way over there. He got one dish with chicken and he got a Tom Ka soup with tofu. I got the pad kee mao, I asked for it to be vegan. I also got a Thai iced tea with coconut milk. The pad kee mao was one of the most flavorful that I've had. At first we were looking at eating at Jade or Yama ramen but the lines for dinner were out the doors for both restaurant. So the Thai restaurant was the closest option for our last dinner on Portland but it ended up being a disaster in the making. When we walked in, there was no waitress to be seen. There was a sign in the front to sit anywhere. But we grabbed a two person table. It took 20 mins to get our order. There was only 1 waitress serving, taking checks and making bubble or Thai tea drinks. It felt forever plus the waitress took our order before another couple. That upset me. We waited 30 mins until our food arrived. I ordered the lemongrass chicken with cabbage, carrots and bean sprouts. The bf ordered garlic salmon and honeydew bubble tea. The lemongrass chicken was nothing spectacular. It wa average compared to lemongrass chicken I had in a French bread sandwich. Garlic salmon was salty. The bubble tea was alright and at least the boba balls were not soft or chewy. To make matters worst, when we paid for the bill, the prepaid gift card had insufficient funds so the waitress voided the card. We ended up paying cash for the bill. No tip was given because of the insufficient service and mediocre food. I don't recommend dining here unless you can wait 30 mins or more for food plus additional 20 mins for the bill. There were plenty of customers coming in and other groups dining outside of the restaurant. So service was slow for everyone. read more

We have been wanting to try out this staple for a while given its history for being a neighborhood favorite. But surely was disappointed. The service was lacking since it took so long to get our order and drinks put in and the young guy tried to give us the wrong food and almost gave our food to a different table. Their boba drinks are blended to the point that makes it difficult to drink. My bf also got the Thai ice tea and said that was the best part of the meal. The fried wontons that we got barely had any morsels of meat in it. They were overfried and chewy and when I pulled it open I saw that whatever was in there was also burnt. We also got the pad ke maw and the noodles were falling apart because they were over cooked - but the flavors were decent in that. We asked for the waitress' recommendation between the trout and the crispy honey duck and chose the duck. It came out lukewarm with good veggies. The rice that was served with it was dry on the bottom and gooey on the top. I don't typically like rice berry rice when it's not done right. And it was pretty inedible. The duck was also over cooked and the rest of the food was missing that excitement you usually get from eating Thai food. Although we ate everything. We were pretty disappointed and I won't find myself coming here ever again. But the decor was really nice. read more

A very sad dinner yesterday night. Nothing was done correctly, all of the cooking was quite strange and simply ill prepared (wrong cooking time, horrible spicing or lack thereof) What a shocker. Thai in This city usually blows my socks off. Customer service: our server definitely is not front of house trained. She neither knew how to phrase things nor how to present dishes. Cute Place. Located in the " Braren House" Est. 1907 My Wife and I tried the Chicken Pad Thai and Fresh Salad Rolls with House Made Peanut Sauce that's good enough to drink. Yes I did! The place is small on the inside with some Patio Seating in warmer weather. We got in after the lunch rush. We sat by the window for the great people views. Unfortunately there was also 2 Moms and their 3 kids. Kids being really loud, Mom's oblivious to the noise their kids make. The Salad Rolls came out really fast. Our entree perfectly timed. We scarfed all our food down with delight. Trying to pretend the table next to us was empty. Luckily. The food was so awesome that I would have enjoyed it at any noise level. First of all, the woman working here is just as sweet as can be. It's always nice to be greeted with a warm welcome and big friendly smile. Many moons ago this warm and cozy space was someone's home. I love old homes like this that are lovingly repurposed into wonderful restaurants. Our gracious hostess/server quickly arrived at our table with a carafe of water and took our order. The shrimp fresh rolls with peanut sauce arrived quickly and were cut into fours making them easy to share. My seafood Pad Thai was surprisingly good with plenty of seafood. This calamari caught me off guard as it was tender and usually I find that calamari is chewy and rubbery. The Pad Thai while good, was lacking spice and I don't recall being asked how spicy I would like it. So if you are not asked, be sure to inquire and make sure you get the spice level made to your liking. I noticed a nice little patio area out front where it looks like a lovely space for tables in the summer time. I've had some very good dine-in meals here, but my one takeout experience was horrible. They messed up the order and the quality of the takeout food didn't seem the same at all, so I doubt I'll do that again. I don't get these lower scores, because we've been back twice and both times has the best Thai food we've ever had here. Located inside a traditional Sellwood style home, we both times were seated and helped right away. I ordered the Tom Kha soup which honestly is the BEST I have ever had coast to coast!!!! Hands down!!!!! My hubby ordered Pad Thai and thoroughly enjoyed it and I also on one visit had the drunken noodles which were very good also. What happened to this once very good restaurant? We used to go there a lot, finally went back to it after Covid. Got takeout and this was one of the most disappointing Thai meals I've had in a long time. We got the roasted duck curry, usually an absolute favorite of mine. That wasn't bad, but it was just completely bland and boring. Got the spicy crispy fish (#67) which was just bad. Limp, not in the least bit crispy fish with way too many overcooked bland vegetables in dull as dishwater sauce. Also had the fried wontons (quite good) and the crab rangoon (filling tasted strange and off). I understand these are difficult times, but at $46 altogether this was an expensive failure. read more

I found rodent feces in my rice. After I'd already eaten most of the box, there it was on the bottom, the worst part was that I ate this the two days prior and felt ill, and had no idea why. This place is for your "worldly" friends that rave about Thai food but don't know what it actually should taste like. The food here is bland and simple. Thai food is supposed to be rich and complex if made from scratch. We've been here twice and while it was special to us being our first date we'd been on, we can't really punish ourselves by going again. In Sellwood, there are plenty of options for Thai, I'm suprised this one has lasted as long as it did. Service was decent and the building is pretty with a nice patio out front! read more

As you walk up to the door and step in you may want to do a quick double take. It almost feels like you're about to walk into someone's home. This is probably because it is a house. Well, a house turned restaurant anyways. It's a nice, cozy atmosphere but could also be a bit crowded and noisy when the place is full. Luckily, we were there a bit later and did not face any sort of crowd. The menu offers a variety of options at pretty reasonable prices - we made it out for about $25 with the tip. It'd be easy to spend more, but on average I'd say Thai Lahnna falls at the lower end of Yelp's $$ rating. It was great, some of the best Pad Thai I've had and the side of peanut sauce was the perfect compliment. If you know there will be a significant delay on one dish, then ask the patrons, but please don't leave one person without a dish while the rest wait awkwardly with their food in front of them. Ok, I'll end that rant now :). When the time came to pay, I opened the bill to find some ginger candies - a nice, appropriate touch that sure beats the stereotypical mint. In the end, I'm a fan. The true measure of success for a restaurant (at least in my opinion, to which you're wholly entitled) is whether or not I will be back and if I recommend it to others. I can safely say that I will do both with Thai Lahnna. Completely random last though: I live nearby and have never really lived anywhere quite like this where I can just take a short walk to go out to dinner. I'm definitely a fan! read more

I didn't have a lot of experience with Thai food when I visited Thai Lahnna, but i was glad since that meant I opted for something that sounded relatively tame and ended up with something amazing. I ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice that comes served in a pineapple show and omg it was good. I ordered it without the shrimp and it was still hugely filling. I thought the raisins might be odd with the other ingredients but they were my second favorite part, next to the pineapple. If I lived in Portland I would get this as often as I could. I got the fried banana for dessert and it was crispy on the outside and sort of caramelized on the inside and a great finish to the meal. The restaurant itself looked like it was built in someone's house, which was cool with me, and the place seemed very clean. Next time I visit Portland I will definitely be back. read more
