I had lunch here with a client and co-workers last week. We kicked off the meal with an order of the crab and cheese egg rolls, so yummy. We also had spring rolls and they were beautiful to the eye and tasted great. For my entree I ordered Chicken Pad Thai. I really haven't had Pad Thai anywhere that could match up to The Lime Leaf in Spartanburg, SC. I crossed my fingers and hoped. The food arrived and wow, I was shocked at the big serving size. I asked for Fish Sauce and yes they had it! I was pleasantly surprised at how good the Chicken Pad Thai was. Did it measure up to Lime Leaf, well it came in a close second. The restaurant interior is a little dated, to say the least, despite that, I could tell that it was a local favorite lunch destination. The staff was friendly and took great care of our table. Excellent spring rolls with tofu... warm and chewy. Pretty good BBQ pork with noodles and vegetable. And now the Pho.. GTFO!!!! I've eaten this dish in over 60 restaurants in the US.. 25 or so in Dallas, 10 in Houston and Pho places in more than 6 other states... I am telling you this to establish my credentials for what I am about to say.... This is probably the best bowl I've ever had. Why?.... The broth in this stuff was AMAZING! (and I don't use all CAPS very often). I can't even describe the flavor and all the herbs and spices that ascended to my weak palate while slurping this liquid from the Gods...my GF was sitting there telling me that I eat like a pig when I was sucking down this amazing bowl of soup.. and I told her to STFU -- you are disturbing this amazing eating experience that I am having right now. You don't go here for Ambiance. You go for the FOOD! It is AMAZING!!! We were the only people in there, which made me nervous. But I'm glad I stuck around. This is the BEST THAI I EVER HAD! and I eat a lot of Thai! We had the Panang Tofu Curry and the Pad Thai, Level 3 and it was spicy and delicious! IF you are NOT into spice...stick with LEVEL 1. Came here based on the reviews and maybe I came on some bad nights, but twice in a row this place just disappointing. Decor: I wasn't used to the Gulfport area and almost missed the restaurant, but it is visible from the road and the interior is set up as any Vietnamese restaurant I've been in. Definitely more inviting looking that "What the Pho" Taste wise: Okay, here were the issues. They ran out of food items when I was there, thus limiting my ability to try what I wanted. So I had a basic Pho and honestly, something about the pho didn't taste right to me. I had the same issue the second time, I found myself adding items to forge a new flavor. This isn't common for me as I eat pho often in my hometown. I left both times with a big "meh" feeling, somewhat regretting I had driven that long distance for that. Overall experience: Maybe I had a bad experience, but for how much people rave about it, I just don't know. I found myself going to "What the Pho" and "Pho" more often as a result of my poor experiences here. Really though, I think for how scattered the reviews are for the 3 main Vietnamese restaurants in the area - I suggest trying all three Vietnamese restaurants and finding the one YOU like. read more

I recently moved, and Thai Lotus will be one of the few things I really miss about Gulfport. To find truly authentic thai cuisine in this area was surprising in itself, but add to that phenomenal food and friendly service and you've got a winner! The pho (Vietnamese soup) is delicious, and the Pad Thai, Pad Rad Nah, and Thai Fried Rice never disappointed. One word of caution on the heat levels when asked, 1-10 is a little more like 1-50. I really love spicy food, but I also like to taste the flavor of the dish over the spice. It only took me a couple times to figure out that when I ordered an 8 it was more like a 20, so my normal spice level here is 4-5 and is perfect. Stop by for lunch (come early) and enjoy complimentary egg drop soup and crab egg roll with your meal. The soup is the best I've had. read more

Wow was I impressed! GREAT service, HUGE portions, and the spring rolls--I'm a junkie for spring rolls. I'd get the bun (vermicelli) and spring rolls here everyday if I didn't fear losing my affinity for them. (This happened both yellow curry & jalapeno in anything, so I don't want to overdo anything else!) I brought a friend with me who had never tried Vietnamese or Thai food, so he very cautiously ordered the fried rice. After trying my bun/vermicelli, he quickly regretted it. He also rethought his initial reaction to the spring rolls (I didn't care--more for me!). I love it when a restaurant with food I love turns someone who's leery & cynical with presumptuous & unfounded opinions into a food explorer! I will be back here again & again for sure. I went here for lunch this afternoon. I had the Thai Tea, House Pho and Condiments for the Pho, which was Bean Sprouts, Lime, Thai Chiles and Cilantro, and the food was very cheap. The Pho Soup was huge and it had Rice Noodles, Beef Balls, slices of Beef Brisket, Basil, and Onions in Beef Stock. It was delicious, and Thai Tea was sweet and delicious and huge too. I think its the only Thai/Vietnemese Restaurant on the coast and it is the best. I will definetly go back soon. read more

Best food in Gulfport that I've had. The people who work here are incredibly nice and the food is amazing. We ordered shrimp fried rice, mixed vegetable stir fry with beef and white rice, and sticky rice mango. All of it was delicious and they gave us great portions at a more than fair price. I generally don't give 5 stars but when your partner tells you it was the best Panang curry he's ever had... well... dang! I had the beef broccoli which was excellent save for the heavy hand with the fish sauce. The server indicated that the dish would be spicy, but he was mistaken and admitted it later. We had the Spring Roll (Vietnamese) which was excellent save for the lack of mint! I miss the mint. Okay... had to remove a star but the food is excellent and certainly unexpected in a beach resort far away from the big coastal cities. read more

The meal came with a free bowl of egg drop soup, being a vegetarian I asked for something else, they said no, so rather than bringing us a soup we could eat, they brought 5 bowls of egg drop soup that we could not eat because it contains chicken broth, that ended up going in the trash, which is so ridiculous to me. The green curry I ordered was so hot I couldn't eat it. I know the menu clearly states that the green curry is their spiciest curry, but I absolutely love spicy food and literally could not eat this. First time eating Thai Lotus and I'll definitely be coming back. I'm in the area every month for work and am excited to have discovered this gem! I ordered the Thai Lotus Salad that came with bamboo shoots, shrimp, chicken (menu says BBQ pork which I would've preferred), basil, cilantro, onions and lime. It was huge, super crisp-fresh vegetables with a nice contrast of sweet and sour. It comes with airy shrimp crackers which added a nice crunch. The chicken was delicious but I love roasted pork so next time I'll confirm they include it. I also ordered Crab & Cheese Egg Rolls. I figured I would just count them as my dessert since they were out of mango sticky rice. These are more like springs rolls and are delicious! The order comes with 4...and I had to get rid of the last one before I ate all of them. They are filled with crab, cream cheese, onions and carrots. I didn't notice the onions but the crab and carrots were visible. Great balance of ingredients and not straight cream cheese as I suspected they would be. I will order these again and need to give 2 away first. :) Very pleased with my dinner at Thai Lotus and I look forward to touring more of the menu! read more

As others have said, the food is amazing, but the service not so much. I ordered the Pad Thai and Thai Iced tea while my girlfriend had a beef broth soup with shrimp. I enjoyed the meal greatly, and the beef broth soup was wonderful, as far as soups can go. The inside was nothing worth writing about. No one showed us to our seats, the staff sat in the eating area with customers and folded napkins and on at least three occasions played loud games on their phone. Half the time we were waited on by a chef rather than the waiter, who was not busy -there were all of three tables filled, including ours. This is all not to say it was a bad experience. The food was really great, and not overpriced. I definitely see myself ordering from them in the future - just those orders will be for take out, not dine in. read more

This restaurant, by far, is one of my favorites! Fresh, quality ingredients cooked deliciously and consistently every time. The absolute best flavor of any Vietnamese/Thai restaurant I have ever tasted..and I have tried several restaurants around! If you don't mind the super casual ambiance/service (only 2 servers usually), you will not be disappointed! The food is well worth it, I promise!!! I eat here several times a week, because it's that good! The kind of flavors that you will crave when you least expect it...late night, or even when they are closed. Expect large portions. If you don't like a particular ingredient, there will be plenty to eat around it without compromising the flavor of the dish surprisingly (I'm not a fan of, say baby corn or bamboo, so I just push them to the side...)!!
