Pad Thai is usually mild without spice. The extra spice was on the side for our liking. Thai Garlic with Chicken ordered Spicy ****. It was a perfect kick of spice if you love a little burn. The reviews lead me to this place, which was a little shack behind the main road that is very representative of Gulf Coast Mississippi. The menu is not, offering a classic spread of Thai dishes, many of which are available vegan. The owner was very specific about what was and was not in his dishes; notably the soup and fried spring rolls were chicken-based. The variety of entrees with animal-free sauces, however, was substantial. Their hours are a lunch and relatively early dinner timed perfectly for a return from the nearby Ship Island Ferry. The red curry I ordered was loaded with fresh vegetables, including some small Asian eggplants I was definitely not expecting to find in a hole in the wall restaurant in Mississippi, which frankly I like better than regular eggplants. A solid portion of tofu was included as well, and the spices were bright, but not overwhelming. I so rarely get the chance to eat a red curry that's vegan but also quality. I was also offered a discount (how many places offer a discount for being a doctor???) so I got a Thai tea and left a good tip. Maybe they'll make some vegetarian appetizers or salads in the future, but relative to any reasonable expectation, this place knocks it out of the park with quality food, good prices, and sensitivity to special dietary needs better than 98% of Mississippi restaurants. I have to say I could not wait to write this review. This place is off the beaten path and seems to be more of a take out place but I have to say it did not disappoint. I had the pad Thai and my wife had the drunken noodles. I spent a little time in Thailand to do r&d for a restaurant I opened and I have to say that pad Thai was the best I have had since I was in Thailand. The food is authentic to the cuisine and tastes great to boot. I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for that trip to another country for the evening or lunch. Outstanding food! We have driven by their place and today due to a head cold I wanted hot and sour soup, that was my go to relief In Portland. My wife also ordered the yellow curry with chicken and chicken fried rice, both very good. After I introduced her to curry she loves it and we have enjoyed it all over the country and we are both very impressed with their skills. In town visiting, chose due to the hood reviews. It is A little place, just a couple tables. Their A/C doesn't really work so it's pretty warm in there. They just have 2 window units in the back and some fans out front. I got the spicy fried rice. I don't eat meat so got just veggies, no discount for just veggies. Companion opted for the "Jungle Curry" advertised on the board as "*****" for $12.95, and I had Pad See Uw (I think? Noodles with pork and vegetables- mild spice, as I like it) also about $12.
