This is a Thai restaurant in a strip off beach Blvd a friend said they really enjoyed the food here and we needed to try it so I was excited to go! Walking in they have the built in booths where it's like your own private area which is really cool! Started with an app sampler which was delicious! Spring rolls, egg rolls, fried shrimp, curry crab wontons , no complaints all tasted great nice and crispy! Next we got coconut soup, Tom kha, I love this soup, this was a more savory version with hardly any sweet creamy coconut notes in it, still good but not my fav version. Next we got pad see ew, flat noodles in a sweet and savory sauce with veggies and chicken, delicious!! This dish was exactly how I like it, flavorful with crisp veggies, yum! Overall, great flavored dishes but extremely little portions. The atmosphere was very cute and they had Thai-style booths in the restaurant. I'd recommend the drunken noodles or the red curry, both had really good bursts of flavor that hit the spot. They were both sweet and spicy, the red curry's coconut flavor sold the dish. The only complaint would be the curry dish's serving size is the size of a kid's portion. Do not get the crispy duck, the serving size was about 4 small slices of duck for a pretty high price, and they admitted the portion size for duck shrank in the past 2 years. Hands down our favorite Thai restaurant, and not just in Jax! Been coming here for over 10 years and the food has not changed. It's just as delicious as it was the very first time we dined. Note: hours have changed since covid. They are now open until 8:30 on week days and 9:30 on weekends, with last seating 30 min prior to closing. The crispy duck has always been a long time favorite of mine, and today I even learned that it's just as crispy and delicious when taken to-go! The duck is boneless and a mix of perfectly tender and crispy. It is served on top of a bed of veggies in a light brown sauce with a dark brown sweet and sour type sauce for the duck on the side. If you're a fan of duck, this dish is to die for. Another one of our favorites is the pad thai. Trust me when I say that I've had this dish at tons of restaurants throughout the years, and none have ever compared to here. For being such a basic staple dish, it's never nearly as good as what Sala Thai does. Other notable mentions: Sala Thai fried rice, red and panang curries, pad see ew, appetizer sampler, and Thai tea. No matter where we've traveled (NYC, Cali, Toronto, Orlando, and other foodie cities), Sala Thai has remained at the top of our list. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed! read more

My go to place to get Thai food, I always get the pork Pad Thai and I have to eat half of my boyfriend gets the red curry with extra bamboo shoots and he is actually the person who introduced me to this place. I love to eat in for the cozy dining experience and amazing staff. They're very knowledgeable and offer good suggestions and are speedy, not to mention so sweet. The style of the restaurant is very comforting especially the booths which are my favorite. If you like sweet tea I recommend trying the Thai tea, you will become addicted it's so good. Came here on a whim. So happy we did! It's tucked away in a strip mall across from sams club but don't let that fool you. The inside is just the best. I love the booth sheeting which is a U shape to sit many people. They have lots of tables too if that's you're preference. Also our server was the sweetest woman ever she took such good care of us with refills and checking if we needed anything. Ordered hot green tea, Coke, fried dumpling, yellow curry (medium spice) and chicken pad Thai (mild spice). It was so delicious. I even was able to customize my order for the curry (no carrots, extra potato) and it was not an issue at all. The Coke came in a can which is great bc particularly around Jax, when it comes from a beverage gun it tastes funny/bad (restaurants probably not cleaning the tubes or syrup running low or pushing more than one button; but I digress). Medium yellow curry had spice to it! The curry is sweet but the spice lingers on the back of the tongue (perfect in my opinion). Pad thai tastes so fresh and had a nice grilled flavor to it. I got Pad Thai with tofu no bean sprouts. The portion size was large, enough for leftovers. I got the spice level hot and it delivered! I got it to go but after going into the restaurant to pick it up, I would definitely like to eat in because of the overall vibe. It seemed that whatever sauce concoction they normally make - soy, fish, oyster, and sriracha - was lacking. In comparing this to other drunken noodle I've had around town, unfortunately I have to place it at the bottom for depth of flavor. The restaurant itself is a quaint setup with booths that have little roofs. Staff was friendly and enthusiastic so that environment could make for a pleasant dine-in experience. Other than the fact that there is no comparison to it, Sala Thai feels like home. It's almost like reviewing your own mom's homemade food. It's impossible because all you can say is wow, you've done it again! Sooooo delicious! The first time I experienced Sala Thai was in 2008. A decade later and their food has remained consistent throughout the years. Red curry, green curry, roasted duck, fried rice, drunken noodles, and of course the well known pad thai etc.. all of them are made to PERFECTION here. The two different seating arrangements are very creative. You can sit in the cute hut-like sections with the seat cushions or traditional tables. 3 1/2 Located in a nondescript plaza, kinda across the street from Sam's Club, I've passed by restaurant countless times. Yesterday we were in the mood for Asian cuisine but didn't necessary want to drive far. We arrived just after 5 pm and they're supposed to open back for dinner at 5 but the "Open" light sign was off, "Closed" sign was visible, and no lights were on. As we sat in our car for a few mins, we saw some lights inside but it was very dim, not enough to show that they were opened so I had hubby check it out and he was able to open the door and motioned us in. I was taken aback a little when I saw the hostess/waitress. She was wearing a black shirt with jeans and unprofessional looking for lack of a better word. We were seated in one of the hut-like booths. It had cushions pads, not the most comfortable booths I've sat in but it was very unique; my youngest daughter loved it. The menus were placed on the table vs handed to us. While we were looking at the menu, we can hear the backroom / kitchen staff talking pretty loudly. The walls had wood panels which reminded hubby of his motherland. Lol The decor had an authentic look but like they could use a facelift. We put in our appetizer order (Sala combo) with the hostess / server. It came out pretty quickly. The shrimps were my favorite, my least favorite were the crab delight wontons because the curry flavor was too pronounced. Another person, older lady came who gave us the app took our order. She was nice / friendly. My theory is maybe she was the hostess' mom and hostess was helping out for the day. Idk. For our mains, we ordered Beef Lad Na, Beef Pad Se-Eww, Chicken Fried Rice, and Crispy Duck. The Lad Na and Pa Se-Eww tasted similar except the Lad Na has a gravy. Flavors were decent but the beef was tough so I would suggest another protein. They used the reg flat rice noodle because this is FL and thick wide noodles seems to be non-existent. The fried rice had good flavor. It was a little greasy but not anymore then what Hawkers Asian Street Fare would serve. The Duck dish was tastey. The duck was extremely crispy which I liked. It sat on a bed of steamed veggie, flavored by some sauce and an additional dipping sauce. We were charged $18.95 for the Duck dish, from memory I thought it was less, I checked their online menu and it was listed at $16.95. Hubby didn't want to make a fuss over a few dollars so I didn't say anything. Food was pretty good, but the interesting service may make us reconsider dining in and just do carryout for future. read more

Back when Jacksonville didn't have much of anything, Sala Thai was one of the very few Thai restaurants in town that offered really really good Thai food. Today, the place still serves the same menu with the same consistent taste it had 20+ years ago, which is a good thing! If you are very particular with presentation and ambiance, the place will not impress. It's become a sort of hole on the wall after years of not maintaining the place. Service was great and the workers were accommodating and nice. Unfortunately, the food was just not my taste. I ordered a pad see ew with chicken. The pad see ew was less soy sauce and more white pepper. I'm not a huge fan of white pepper so I did not enjoy the dish. My fiancé tried to order something similar to beef salad and went with a "similar dish." The dish was nowhere close to what we were expecting but that is our fault. That said the soup was also terribly bland for Tom kha the bamboo and spring onion was in edible below is the result of me trying because I was hungry. We had dinner here tonight because Mariana's Grinds--the renowned Filipino/Hawai'ian restaurant--was unexpectedly closed tonight and this Thai restaurant was nearby and highly-rated on Yelp. This restaurant is in a strip mall between an Indian grocer and a latina grocer but the interior is decorated in a relaxing traditional Thai motif heavy on woodwork, deep reds and maroons, and pleasantly low lighting. The staff are . . . ok, I guess--not the most personable or friendly of folks, it seemed, to be honest. Nor the most-efficient of waitstaff. Indeed, if for one main thing I would fault this place it would be the service or lack thereof. The menu however was impressively authentic--moreso than many Thai restaurants and I know a thing or maybe two about Thai cooking as I cook it a lot at home and have written about the cuisine professionally. Also a plus: if you ask for unsweetened iced tea, you get the same brewed tea they make the famous Thai (sweet) iced tea with, just without the condensed milk. Very nice. Sala Thai is our go to spot for takeout. I am a Red Curry girl so that is my dish of choice. The veggie red curry is a great blend of sweet and spicy. They add pineapple to give the curry an extra dash of sweetness. Only suggestion would be to kick up the Thai Hot spice. My husband also loves their Drunken Noodles and I have to admit it is one of the better ones in the area. The service is fast and helpful whenever we order and we will continue to make this our go to take out Thai spot. read more

We went to this restaurant for our anniversary and was served by Scott. He took our order and before we got our food I noticed a roach crawling down the wall....we killed it and told him about it and showed it to him. All he did was off to let us change tables. At that point the flies showed up and another roach came down the wall. He told us to leave and gave us the middle finger. We/ I have eaten here many times and recommend it to all my friends. Very authentic and great food but I don't deserve to be treated like garbage. He stood there with his vacuum cleaner and vacuumed under only our table to upset us.
