Still at the table here and decided to write my review now, before I forget. I have ordered a lunch special. The food was wonderful. I had a dumpling soup which was chock-full of carrots, cabbage and scallions in a tasty, mild broth. The dumplings were made from chicken wrapped in very thin and tender dough. An appitizer of 2 Thai dumplings came on a bed of cabbage with a dense sauce both sweet and savory. They were stuffed with pork and fried crispy. My main course was Pad Thai with shrimp. It had everything it usually contains but all the vegetables were crisp, the shrimp cook properly and the noodles al dante. The tamirand sause was so tasty and complimented the ingredients. ..I did not overwhelm. A large portion which will serve as dinner tonight. A pot of jasmine tea washed all down. All for $13+. Yum bomb! Wasn't expecting a decent Thai place out here in suburbia, but this place proved me wrong! It's located in a plaza complex, right off of Dekalb Pike - easy to find and plenty of parking available. My guest and I walked in a little after 5PM so there wasn't any other patrons besides us (they must've just opened for their dinner service.) The hostess greeted us right away and allowed us to choose a seat wherever we preferred since we had the place to ourselves. We chose a spot with ample natural lighting. The decor is pretty dark in there, and since the sun was still out, the indoor lighting was on dim. It didn't bother us too much, but I think if it were a cloudier day, it may have been pretty dark inside. We ordered the baked tofu and the drunken noodles to share. Being the only ones in the restaurant, it was nice not to see food come out and be disappointed that it was for a different party haha! Our food was served quick, hot, and tasty! I prefer tofu firm and well seasoned, and this place definitely served it up. The drunken noodle dish was an ample portion for two people and it had notes of spicy and sweet all in one bite. I enjoyed the experience of dining here. The waitress was attentive and filled our water glasses plenty of times as we dined. We also asked for hot sauce to accompany the peanut sauce for the tofu, and it was brought out quickly for us to enjoy. If I find myself back in this part - I would definitely venture back to try their other dishes, especially their curries! read more

Tried this restaurant on a mid week night and it was pretty busy. Ordered: Crying Tiger Salad- Beef was too thick and chewy, too sweet and this salad needs to have the beef cut into thinner slices which makes it easier to eat and is also visually more appetizing. Almost was true to its name wanted to cry for thickness of the meat! Pad See Ew- Beef version was ok flavors weren't bad just too sweet. Jungle to Jungle- Vegetarian with Tofu, red curry sauce was too sweet but the spice level was great. I have to agree with Har's review there is too much sugar used in the dishes. Overall the atmosphere was nice the restaurant staff was friendly and it was clean. The restrooms where very clean so a plus point there. There is plenty of onsite parking in the parking lot since it is located in a strip mall. There are 2 cons: The sweetness of all dishes, we are not a fan of and have never encountered this before from any other Thai restaurant. I guess this is how they cook and serve their dishes. The issue we had was the silverware they use "smells bad" after you hold them you will notice the smell on your fingers. The smell is probably from the sulfation process and I would recommend they get new silverware or clean them properly with the correct method which can be tricky. This is not very appetizing and I am sure we are not the only ones who have noticed this while dining there. read more

This was my favorite Thai restaurant in the area for years. Even after two visits to Thailand I still enjoyed coming here for my Thai fix. Ordered take out from here and was thoroughly disappointed. My order was for pad Thai and drunken noodles. The noodles were tasteless and over cooked. The portion was also very small as well. I was extremely disappointed with the food. I spoke to several friends who have had similar things to say about it. One mentioned that he ordered the jungle curry, which used to be one of my favorites, and he said it was shockingly bad. It used to be be great but now is below mediocre. I'm not sure if they had a change of management or an overhaul of the kitchen staff but whatever the change the quality had drastically decreased. Absolutely phenomenal Thai restaurant in Philadelphia! I came here with my super diet-restrictive Indian family and the service was so great. Christie was our waitress and she was so nice and accommodating. My grandma is severely allergic to eggs and the rest of us are vegetarian so needless to say, we had very particular instructions on how to cook our food Lol. We ordered three appetizers all of which were superb! We had the cabbage salad which is basically a traditional papaya salad but with cabbage. We had Tom yum soup which was so flavorful. And finally we had the veggie dumplings which are basically fried potstickers; these came with a delicious sweet dark sauce which complimented the dumplings very well. For the main course, we shared three dishes. We had drunken noodles, holy basil stir fry, and red curry and all were excellent and had unique tastes. You know the food is perfect when you don't have to add any additional sauces or hot sauce. We ordered our food mild and it was not too spicy but just perfect; I can't handle any heat and it was great for me. The decor at this restaurant is so traditional yet modern. I loved the color scheme, elephants, tablecloths, dishes, utensils, and even the water glasses were beautiful!! The staff all wears traditional Thai clothing which is a really nice touch too. The Thai Basil was an excellent combination of being slightly spicy and evenly blended with sweetness and saltiness. We were craving for Thai food and we have been to this place 3x. It's a drive for us and we literally waited at the parking lot to open. We came in a little bit early than opening time so we understood when we have to wait while seated. But the lady who seated us ( we assume she is the owner or manager) took our order. We ordered 1 appetizer, shrimp fried rice, pad thai for my husband and my entree was green curry (which I always order in this place) and was very clear "no spice" which she repeated 2x. Our appetizer order took so long, we figured they cater more on take out. Since we were starving, we ate the appetizer so quick which made us wait for our food. My green curry came and my husband and I tasted and it was very spicy!! I have acid reflux so I do not eat spicy food hence why I am very clear when I order. There was another waitress who served us with the rest of the order and told her that the green curry was very spicy. And because we were so hungry I told her to cancel it since I can eat the fried rice instead if they need to cook it again. She was very apologetic and went to the other lady. We could hear the other lady said "no" when we wanted to cancel the green curry and came to our table and insisted that it will be cooked in 2 minutes. No apologies but just insisting to take it since we ordered it. We have no issue on paying it, we are more concerned on the waiting time since we have been waiting to begin with. Immediately when she said 2mins I tapped my phone to see the time and she went back to the kitchen yelling "2mins". The dish came back in less than 2 mins still spicy. We thought they just altered our order since it will not take that quick to cook green curry again. When we paid our bill and on our way out, the lady was there with the other waitress and never said a word to us (we were the only dine in customer). I am not sure if management changed since last year but if she was the owner or manager she needs to learn customer service!!! Very rude and greedy! We will never go back to this place! read more

Very sorry for having to post a poor review for a restaurant that ,up until last night, could do no wrong. Well, last night, they did wrong. As usual, seating was speedy, the service was on point, the restaurant itself is immaculate, the problem was someone erred in settling on the addition of the soft shelled crab entree to the Fathers Day menu. The crab was tasteless, you could only taste the unseasoned tempura breading. The cabbage was bland. The sauce was bland, even though I requested 3 out of 5 spice level (and so little sauce was on the plate, I had to ask for a bowl of more sauce, even though it didn't help. They topped it with rice noodles which, of course, has no taste, but it only added to a tasteless meal. I'll know better next time, stick with the drunken noodles, pad Thai and basil fried rice, can't go wrong that way! Sorry Thai Orchid, only being honest. My other visits have been 5 stars! read more

Dared to give this restaurant a second chance but in vain. With my 4 month old and raining heavily outside was not seated for a good five minutes and waiters gave me looks as if we were not welcome. Order was taken in a giffy worse than a fast food restaurant. Coming to the food. Tom kha was ok Ravioli soup was smelly Veggie combo was good Drunken noodles with shrimp (3 small shrimp) and chicken ( too hard) and smelly Pad thai was good. Tulip dumplings were smelly and chicken uncooked. Finally none of us were able to finish it and ordered boxes to carry the left overs.. She got rice boxes when asked for couple of curry boxes she asked us to return rice boxes as if we were going to take the empty ones home. We had to also request for bags. After all this they charged some 18 or 20% as gratuity for 4+ one a table.. We were 5 and 2 infants. All the best. read more

I wandered in, as I am new to the area, and ordered take-out (a lunch special - came to 9.95 plus tax). Next time I will call ahead or maybe dine in. Took 11 minutes to get the food (was told 15 - so that was great!). Chicken pad thai was a tad greasy but good and a large portion. Standard American-Thai loaded with sugar, which I happen to like from time to time. Tulip dumplings were good but unremarkable. Thankfully they were steamed and not deep-fried. I would definitely come back for lunch, but this is still not the greatest Thai food. Pensylvania - even the great city of Philadelphia still has yet to find me a good thai place. The one in Bala is OK (Chang Mai?), and the one in University used to be good. The Little Thai Market in Reading terminal Market is the best I have gotten. The 2 pseudo-Thai places in Media both suck. Sorry, but they do. So for Suburban Thai? Thai Orchid is looking like my new place. The 2 ladies serving were lovely and courteous. Super easy parking (and you can head to Giant afterward to shop.) Next time I will do my litmus test of Tom Kha. See you in about a week! read more

A really great Thai take-out place, Thai Orchid gets extra points for coordinating a really large work take-out order to perfection. Thai Orchid food is pretty standard Thai food. If you are in the need of a quick pad Thai, it's worth it. But do not expect luxury Thai dining. The staff is nice, I went on a Sunday night and it was not so crazy but the service was relatively slow for there not being a lot of people.
