It did not disappoint. I was looking for something low-carb, quick, and healthy, so I went with the shrimp rolls and peanut sauce. The presentation alone had me drooling, and somehow the flavor was even better than expected. What really stood out though was the overall experience. The restaurant was extremely clean, quiet, and relaxing -- the perfect atmosphere to sit down, enjoy lunch, and get some work done. They even let me plug in my laptop while I worked, which I appreciated more than they probably realize. Sometimes it's the small things that leave the biggest impression, and this place nailed that. I have been to this location previously. I remember a lot of takeout orders and a few customers inside. I pull up the sign in the window says Authentic. I enter the door the carpet is a bit frayed at the doorstep. I came around the corner nobody really greeted me. But soon someone in a calm pleasing voice said and guiding out their hand said take a seat where you like... I took one and went home.... lol no, but really I seated myself facing the outside window and fish tank. I order the Thai Ice Tea, they do it as good as any plus the Tom Kha Gai soup, a wonderful slight coconut cream flavor. I order the protein- shrimp... it was cooked perfectly. A nice amount of mushrooms, some onions- a bit heavy on the onions. Lemongrass, lime leaves, fish sauce, savory, spicy mid range quite hot. Excellent flavors bring it together. I see the have Khao Man Gai but I go for the Larb. The order arrives it is chicken oh I realize we never discussed which protein so they gave me chicken. A bit disgusting I could not finish it... my bad I talked to the waiter about the Khao Man Gai on the menu. Unfortunately, I have to warn people away from the quality of the food here, not the quality of the people, who are wonderful. I think the servers probably do their best. As in all things, it comes from the top, so this is really a message to the management and owners. The chicken satay was so tough that it barely broke apart, not like some chicken satay, which is expected, but good chicken satays have a tender center. This one was tough as an old shoe, and was unusually horrible tasting. It was as if it was cooked days ago and sat in a shoebox, then reheated and served. Even the only ok peanut sauce could not cover up the bad experience. The Tom Kha soup was also subpar, and a strange color. If you're looking for really good Thai food, I'd recommend Thai herbs in Multnomah Village. It is 100 times better, and not that far away. I don't want to contribute to putting these people out of business, but if they want to stay in business, they should really fix the quality of the meat, sauces, and the soup, The ambiance was alright for a strip mall location, but there needs to be more attention paid overall to the number one important thing --- the food. read more

We got our meal to go but the inside of this place is unexpectedly appealing, considering the mini-mall location. Somewhat modern, good lighting and above your average Thai joint decor. Anyway, once we got home and opened everything up, we were again pretty pleased with our orders - House Curry for her and Pad Kra Prow for me (Medium spicy). The portions were healthy and my Pad Kra Prow a bit spicier than expected but still a very nice blend of flavors with the ground chicken and bell peppers. The curry helped cool it down a bit too. My experience was overwhelmingly -- Meh! I ordered one of their specialties -- Lemongrass Chicken Pad Thai, which was too heavy on the fish sauce. My girlfriend ordered the Pad Se-ew which was too heavy on the soy. Neither of us were happy with our orders. If it were acceptable to ask for a refund, I would have. The Thai Tea was overwhelmingly sweet as well. Kid (who is just home from the hospital) sucked down a Thai iced tea, ate a tofu salad roll they proclaimed delicious, and promptly went to bed at 5:30pm before eating their noodles. Their noodles looked good but no verdict has been delivered. My extra pork pad see ew add mushrooms for $2 was a little bland tbh. It didn't have as much sauce and smoky flavor as I am used to but was also less oily so maybe that's good. The pork was very lean, the broccoli was cooked perfectly, there were no bean sprouts or onions or carrots or anything. I had asked for mushrooms for $2 and expected regular old button mushrooms and got a TON of straw mushrooms which surprised me. I really don't enjoy straw mushrooms. Texture thing. I know its weird. I really only enjoy garden variety grocery store mushrooms and maybe portabellos. So this pad se ew was not a win and it's kinda my fault. First time and we ordered take out. The online ordering process is extremely easy and intuitive. Note: the "Accessibility Menu" (Control +U) by UserWay, allows you to increase the font size, adjust the contrast, text spacing, and claims to be Dyslexia Friendly. You chose your pickup time and they send you an email so you can track your order. It's pretty cool. I'm also happy to see they do their own deliveries, in addition to the usual suspects like DoorDash, Grubhub, UberEats, etc., which I never use as I want all my money to go to the restaurant and staff and not corporate third parties. I know, but that's how I roll (I won't use self-check out machines either). But I digress. I started with the homemade deep fried vegan spring rolls, four for $6 with plum sauce. The egg rolls were excellent and I'd order them again but what I got wasn't anything like a plum sauce. It was just chili sauce with sugar, watered down a bit. My entree was Pra Ram ($15) with $2 extra for brown rice: perfectly steamed broccoli, carrot, cabbage, zucchini and cauliflower with a side of peanut sauce. The portion was huge and I had enough leftover for another meal! The peanut sauce was a tad too sweet for my taste. It tasted like smooth peanut butter mixed with sweetened condensed milk, and that's OK, but I like a little "zing" and this didn't have that. I also chose tofu as my protein and it's usually deep fried every other place I've had it. This was just firm tofu cut into large dice and placed on top of the veggies. I think a little more effort could have been made by the chef on this one. My husband ordered the Tom Kha, extra spicy with extra seafood (shrimp, squid, and mussel) ($19): a spicy and sour soup with coconut milk, tomato, mushroom, lemongrass, cilantro, and green onions. He declared it "perfect." Portion was very generous but he had nothing leftover. All in all, the ingredients were very fresh and the food is delicious. Many vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free choices. The dessert menu has one of my favorites, Banana Rolls: deep fried bananas rolled in spring roll pastry topped with caramel and chocolate sauce. A scoop of vanilla ice cream on top is mandatory. Inside dining is very clean and there's lots of room between tables (post-COVID?) Staff are friendly, with helpful customer service. I'm a little iffy if the places doesn't have at least 4 stars and this place had 3.8 but we really wanted Thai and they had the dish I like. We walked in and were greeted right away. I'm honestly so surprised by the negative reviews here! I LOVE Pepper Tree Thai and had their food so many times since I work close by. Each experience has been as great as the last, delicious food and friendly customer service! This day, I tried the red curry (mild), but was disappointed by the increasing prices (used to be around $10, then jumped to $12.50 not too long ago. Now it's $14...). I was fine with the $12, but now it's getting a bit too expensive for this entree. I used to come here a lot, but now it'll probably only be occasionally due to the increasing prices. It's funny, Pepper Tree used to be our primary take-out for Thai when we started eating it about 20 years ago. Fast forward a few years and we discovered other Thai places like Dang's, Thai Bloom and Thai Peacock. We kind of RE-discovered it a year ago when I met a client there for lunch. Since then, I've been back multiple times and feel it is easily in the same breath with those other places with better value and really good, friendly service. Quick lunch and as it was my first time here and noticed the clean and remodeled space. Members in my group have been before and said this place is now owned by the former owners (back in Thailand as she retired) sister, so within the same family though it's new management. Lunch menu starts at $9 based on the protein and was served quickly. We got tom yum noodle soup, pad thai with chicken, beef, pad see ew, and tofu red curry. The waters were brought out first then as our food arrived we got utensils. Server was wearing gloves. The noodle dishes except the tom yum had a decent amount. The curry had a good amount as well. Think the portion for the tom yum shrank a bit as mentioned by my group. A quick bite was satisfactory and do think it can keep me full as I try other things on the menu later on read more

Our goto dishes: lemon grass chicken, red curry, khao soi. Note that lemon grass is less main stream and more provincial. The chicken meat has very good texture and well marinated without the normally rough lemon grass. To stay authentic, I normally ask for the lemon chili sauce. It comes with a good bed of vegetable that are perfectly cooked. Khao soi comes with the authentically provincial pickled vegetable that I have never seen anywhere else except at home. It is these little touches that bring out the authentic note of their cuisine. On the other hand, Pad Thai is too sweet. read more
