Thai Orchid definitely hit the spot! I was craving something delicious, and Thai Orchid came up as one of the top suggestions on my Yelp search. Being a huge Thai food fan, I had to give it a try and I'm glad I did! I stopped in around 7:45 PM on a Thursday night, so it wasn't very busy. I decided to grab a seat at the bar, which was perfect for a quick solo dinner. I ordered: - Pork Spring Rolls - Crispy Pork Belly with Sticky Rice Both were AMAZING! The pork belly was crispy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the sticky rice. And let me tell you, the sticky rice is a MUST! I'm normally not big on spicy dipping sauces, but the sauces here were so flavorful that I actually kept going back for more. Everything worked together perfectly. Simple order, great flavors, and exactly what I was craving. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines, and Thai Orchid easily became one of my favorite Thai restaurants I've tried. 100% recommend! Why is this place labeled closed? I didn't visit the location but ordered through DoorDash and it's definitely ranking higher on my list of Thai places (not a high bar). We tried the pad Thai (8/10), drunken noodle (8/10), pineapple fried rice (7/10), spring rolls (7/10) and mango sticky rice (10/10). They offer level 1-5 for spice and I made the mistake of choosing level 2 and 3. I'm a mild girly and my partner is a medium man .... We had acid reflux for the next 4 meals bc we ate it as leftovers (I ordered with my eyes lol). It was worth it though! I would probably just order level 1 next time. read more

Not closed - very open and very delicious! We had the red curry, the drunken noodle, and pineapple fried rice. Everything looked and tasted amazing. Slower when we were there so service was quick and attentive, food was ready quickly and came out hot. The restaurant had a family restaurant feel with a bit of Asian flair. Ginger! There was so much ginger in my dish that it was repulsive! The smell alone was permeating the house! The container was barely half full of the ingredients and of that there was only about a half cup to 3/4 cup of actual meat in it. Complete and total waste of money! read more

I'm in the area for a few weeks and I'm looking for a couple solid options for my favorite dishes. If you look at my other reviews you'll see I've reviewed Larb several times from places all over the U.S.. I LOVE Larb. This example wasn't bad, but it definitely falls into the middle of the pack compared to other Thai restaurants. The sauce was a bit more on the savory, fish sauce, dark side vs some that are brighter and more sour. I prefer the more tangy versions, even though I also really love the fish sauce contribution. This was served on a few large leaves of lettuce with a wedge of iceberg lettuce. I liked that it was easy to remove the lettuce. I know this is a "salad" but I'm not bound by that so I like when it's not all mixed together with chopped or shredded lettuce. I was excited to give this place a try because when I was in Kansas City, MO there was a restaurant with the same name. It was one of my favorite Thai places ever! I thought maybe this could be my Milwaukee version, but it's not on the same level. read more

Why does this place have casino slot machines in the back? Anyway, I'm here for the food. I haven't eaten anything all day. It was already 5PM when I felt a tug in my stomach. I was shopping in the area and this establishment was only a mile way. My husband ordered the beef laab with sticky rice and I picked chicken green curry. Our server was prompt and took our orders right away. Ten to fifteen minutes later and our orders came out. The beef laab was solid. We picked spice level 2 and it was not too spicy for my taste. My spice level is low. It was flavorful. I could taste the herbs. Especially the lemongrass, mint, and cilantro. It was popping. The sticky rice was still warm; bagged inside a rice basket container. Salty, toasted ground rice powder, and a tad of spice. Chef's kiss. I was excited for my dish after tasting the laab. When it came, I took my spoon into curry and the first sip was super sour. Wait, I've eaten green curry from all around the US and this was the first one that had a really sour note. I took a few sips and offered it to my husband. Same, it was so sour. The sliced chicken pieces were hidden. So was the Thai eggplants. The whole bowl were basically sliced onions and green pepper. So disappointed. Green curry is one of the Thai national dishes and if they can't do it right, I don't think I could give them a second chance. read more

Thai Orchid has been on my list for a while to check out. There are certain foods such as Thai food I tend to stick to my go to places and do not venture to new places often. I'm so glad we tried Thai Orchid and was pleasantly surprised. We started with the Spring Rolls with shrimp and the Crab Rangoon. I'd say skip the Crab Rangoon; they were kind of greasy and bland. Main entrees we had the Red Curry with Tofu, Pad See Ew with chicken and the Spicy Basil Fried Rice. All of our main entrees were delicious. I live in the neighborhood and have been wanting to try out this new place for a while. I finally got the chance, and the food did not disappoint! I ordered takeout so I can't comment on the service necessarily, but my pick up experience was smooth. I was craving chicken pad Thai and was soooo satisfied after eating this dish! It's a huge portion so I was able to make two meals out of it. It has a little kick and plenty of flavor. My husband got the pepper steak (no onions or peppers) and we were both fans. I like how light the sauce is and tender the meat is. We also shared an order of the egg rolls which were awesome. I appreciate that they are not heavy. The sweet and sour dipping has some heat to it! The inside of the restaurant is clean and spacious. I will definitely dine in sometime in the future. May have finally found the most authentic Thai in the Milwaukee area. Their menu is a bit limited (only 2 curries offered) but it seems that everything they offer is delicious. My go-to is tofu pad see ew and it was so flavorful and moist. My friend got the pork belly and I tried a bite, the dipping sauce is so dang good. The dessert was delicious as well. There is a rumor floating around that the infamous Thai Joe or his wife trained the chef at Thai Orchid so that's always a great sign. We had the dining divas group out - 13 of us in total so that's always a big group to manage. The atmosphere is really cozy and quaint. I liked the Thai music on the TV screen and that the place is not too big or small. We had some of the signature martinis at the bar and I loved the Lychee martini as well as my friends. We shared some of the crab rangoon and what set it apart was the thinness of the wonton wrappers plus the dipping sauce. I would highly recommend getting this as an appetizer. I opted for the crispy pork belly and I didn't like it at all. I am used to pork belly that is crispy on the edges and not chewy. This was dry and chewy - I told the waitress but she said that's the way they prepare it so next time I will not get that dish. However, I tried some of the beef Pad Thai from a friend and it was some of the best Pad Thai I have ever eaten so that made up for the chewy pork belly. Please note that it came mild so you need to let them know spice level. However, many people got the chicken red curry and there was no spice level asked and it was very spicy. People loved the flavor but said it did wallop a punch. The service for a group this big was almost flawless - we even asked for separate checks and she did it for us so there was extra tips! I will definitely be back and go for the Pad Thai or try the Pad See Ew. read more

We were actually intending to go to another nearby restaurant but arrived to find them closed. A quick search on Yelp and we found this spot 2 minutes away. Happy we found this spot for dinner and enjoyed our experience here. They have a large, clean dining room, bar seating, patio seating, and appeared to have a room for small dinner gatherings (roughly conference room sized with a tv and long dining table). It's a great spot for everything from solo diners to large groups. We came on a Monday evening and were able to be seated right away. To start things off, we got their crab rangoon, which were excellent. For my entree, I got their pad thai which was good. My dining companion got the drunken noodles which were outta this world. I found out about Thai Orchid while perusing a discount offer website and decided to give them a try for lunch. I called in an order to go for beef Pad See Ew and egg rolls. The egg rolls were larger than I expected, which is always appreciated. They had nice flavor, fresh ingredients, and were hot and crispy. I'd put these right up there near the top of the list for egg rolls I've had. The Pad See Ew was a little pricier than what I get from another Thai place near work, but you get more for your money and the beef was fantastic in quality. The online menu says the Pad See Ew contains wide rice noodles, eggs, broccoli, dark soy sauce, and your choice of protein. I didn't mind the carrots that were included, but I don't care for onions of any kind, so the green onion dumped on top was annoying. I stopped here for the restaurant of the week after noticing that the taco place was gone and a new Thai restaurant was in its place. The decor might be new paint colors but the inside is exactly the same as the taco place with the same tables, booths and bar. My service had no issues and I was seated right away, anywhere I wanted. The menu isn't huge but it's for appetizers, Pho, fried rice etc etc. Sometimes I don't feel a main course and today was one of those days when the app menu had fried calamari and shrimp tempura so that's what I ordered. My food came quick and looked good with orange dipping sauce. The Thai shrimp tempura was 4 pieces and good but the tempura batter was different from let's say a sushi restaurant and texture was closer to breaded fried shrimp I thought. The calamari was the star because it had a completely different crunchy batter that was seasoned better than the shrimp. The calamari was approx 7 rings and 5 small tentacles and cooked absolutely perfect, not like eating a rubber band like some places. Even though I didn't get any traditional Thai plates like I wanted, dam shrimp tempura and fried calamari on the menu completely ran me of the road and side tracked me but I thoroughly enjoyed an appetizer lunch so I will have to stop back for more of the menu. Went here for lunch with a friend on a Saturday. The service was good and we were the only two in there when they first opened. We were immediately served some waters and we each ordered a Modelo. We ordered the chicken satay to split, my friend ordered a salad and I ordered the drunken noodles. The satay came out first and was delicious. Once we received our entrees, we tried them and thought they were just okay. Nothing special. I ordered a three for a spice level, which wasn't spicy at all. The noodles were way overcooked. My friend said all she could taste was fish sauce on her salad. The restaurant itself appeared clean and had a good amount of space in it, but we each ended up leaving more than half our plates there because the food was just okay. Flavor was very bland. Drunken noodles tasted just like the pad see ew. Ingredients for both noodle dishes were the same (try to guess which is which in the photo). We thought they gave us two orders of the same thing. Crispy pork belly was not very crispy, it was more dry and the skin was soft/soggy. The dipping sauce just tasted like fish sauce. Our favorite Thai restaurant was closed this evening (Vientiane Noodle Shop) so we looked for a Thai place we hadn't been to before and found Thai Orchid. Nice looking place, had a small somewhat private room that was reserved for a party, a karaoke section, a bar, and a hallway with what looked like digital video games. I ordered Red Curry and my boyfriend had Fried Rice, both to-go. We liked our dishes, they were fine. Mine was a bit on the sweet side, so if you like that flavoring, you'll be ok with Red Curry. I like a more savory curry, so I'd give this 3 stars. I did like that they noted "Fish Sauce" in the Papaya Salad on the menu, so I avoided that (because I'm vegan). The Fried Rice dish was also ok. We ordered ahead and the food was ready for pickup when we arrived. Parking was not a problem at 6 p.m. on a weeknight, the lot was not full. My search for authentic Haw Mok Gai (Tofu) continues and the closest thing I've found to it is at Vientiane Noodle Shop, the dish called Kang Pet. If anyone knows where this dish is located, please let me know. It used to be at Bangkok Orchid and I read in another review here that Thai Orchid's chef is rumored to have been trained by Thai Joe or his wife, owners of Bangkok Orchid. If that's so, I'll contact them and see if they can make Haw Mok Gai, with Tofu instead. I miss that dish so much! read more

We usually don't like to try a new restaurant without reading reviews first but without any reviews on here we stopped anyway. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. She explained a couple of the dishes to us and we ordered based off of that. We tried the crab Rangoon which were good, not too crispy which I like. For our meals we had the Pad Sea Ew and Volcano Chicken. The volcano chicken was ok, chicken seemed like maybe it was left over from a day or two, it just didn't seem all that fresh. We asked how spicy it was and she said it wasn't at all, I'm not sure why they call it volcano when you have to ask for it to be made spicy. The pad sea ew was also just ok. Menu says it comes with meat, broccoli, and egg. Mine did not have any egg but my chicken was better than the volcano chicken, broccoli & noodles were ok. The inside decor was meh. They have machines to play which is odd to me in a restaurant and what looked to be a karaoke setup. Not sure if that's what it was but I saw a keyboard and a couple microphones, not sure about anyone else but that's not what I want to hear while trying to eat. I received a delivery order that included Volcano Chicken and Pork Belly. The Volcano Chicken was stone cold and so dry that no amount of sauce could save it. The Pork Belly was, for some reason, diced into pieces about the size of a sugar cubes and completely devoid of any moisture. They were virtually impossible to eat. I ended up throwing both of the entrees away. This was not a preparation/cooking/food problem. This was a problem with an employee who didn't care about the customer or it may be a culture of poor training/management. Either way I would advise caution ordering from this establishment. read more
