Absolutely awful service. We came in at around 5:30pm, and the place barely had anyone there. We said we didn't have a reservation, so they said we had to sit at the bar. So, we did. But luckily my husband quickly checked well before we were served and saw there were reservations available online, so he booked us one on the spot. We were then given two excuses, one by the bartender and a different one by the host as to why they couldn't honor the reservation: (1) there were no tables available for us (note the place was half empty, but we supposed maybe there were lots of reservations coming later--nope, the place was still half full by the time we left); (2) we had to make the reservations 30-40 minutes in advance and we didn't do that so even though we did have a reservation, they couldn't honor it because we made it too soon to the reservation time (WOW--complete BS). We were peeved but decided we should just enjoy our dinner. BUT as we were finishing up, about 5 couples came in WITHOUT a reservation and both the host and the bartender gave each couple the option to either sit at the bar or at a table. When I confronted the bartender about it, she claimed "they weren't supposed to do that." WHAT?! She literally just offered a couple a table without a reservation. What do you mean?! It was insulting. Anyway, we will absolutely NEVER come back here. The tip we left was solely for the kitchen staff who were hard at work and doing an honest job. We had a large party for dinner on a weekday night and the place was not that full, so it felt like it was only us. The place looks a little old school with video games and the black decor, nothing great. Service was quick and attentive. Food-wise, while the edamame was great (hard to mess that up, ya know), the crispy squid, while crispy, had a different sort of breading to it unlike most Asian places and the oil it was fried in, felt old. So many valid reasons why this could be: a busy weekend, possibly short staffed, had to make a new batch quickly on the fly, or all of the above. Went to dinner on a whim on a Thursday night with my husband and a friend, and it was great! There is a bar right when you walk in, so the seating situation for dinner in was a little confusing at first. They definitely do a big takeout business, there were alot of orders lined up on the counter for pickup. We found our way to the dining area in the back, and our server was very kind and welcoming. Unfortunately they were out of 3 beverages those on our group wanted to order; the Thai iced tea, a rose wine and ingredients for a seasonal cocktail, so that was a little surprising! We found other good options. Food was really good, our table got egg rolls, dumplings, calamari, 2 noodle dishes and chicken pho. Dumplings are clearly homemade, and absolutely worth the 25 min wait mentioned on the menu!! The egg rolls were hot and crispy, but average flavor I'd say. Calamari was cooked well and had a really good seasoning on it. The chicken pho was everything you want a big bowl of pho to be, and was perfect for me once doctored up with all the fixings; fresh jalapeno, spro uts, hoisin and lime. One of the two noodle dishes was a bit too salty, the other was perfect. Dining room ambiance leaves a bit to be desired, but the waitress was so friendly, helpful and caring to assure we enjoyed our meal. As many places are, I think they are struggling with staffing issues, but the food and service did not show it! I'm not knocking any stars off for it being delivered since sometimes that can ruin dishes, but this wasn't the case. The egg rolls were still crispy when they got to me and were pretty decent. I saw a lot of hype on the dumplings but wasn't too impressed with them. For entrees, I ordered the basil fried rice and the pad thai. First, the fried rice was pretty good. I asked for no spice since spicy rice doesn't sound right. There was spice in the rice (lots of rhyming here lol). Although I asked for no spice and my rice was above medium spice, it still tasted fine. I would ensure there isn't spice next time so I can taste the rice. Now, the pad Thai. I was contemplating writing what I had to say about it, but from other reviews I saw, it looks like others felt the same. I'll make this short and sweet. It was the worst pad Thai I've ever had in my life. There was no flavor whatsoever, and it was very dry. The beef was almost nonexistent in the container; if it was there, it was dry, too. I don't like my pad Thai super saucy but this had no sauce anywhere in the dish. I've had my fair share of pad Thai, and this is one I would avoid. My go to for many years here is the special pho. They used to have one of the best pho broth in town but it doesn't taste the same anymore. A good broth should be boiled 12-24 hours, rich & thick in flavor. The menu states "rare** beef slices and brisket" yet what was delivered were extremely fatty pieces. Typically a good broth is worthy of sipping without having to add sauces, I found myself adding hoisin and Sriracha to give it more flavor. Can't comment on the service or atmosphere since we ate at home, but we'll definitely be going back to check those things out because our Massaman Curry and Red Curry with Tofu were really, really good. This was the second-best tasting Red Curry I've had in Milwaukee, hence the four-star rating. The tofu was fried, which gave it a nice texture. I wish it had more vegetables in it, but there were a few red peppers, green peppers and bamboo shoots. It definitely could have used way more veggies. The rice was cooked perfectly and we both enjoyed our dishes immensely. This dish was recommended to me by my fellow vegans and they were right on the money. I went for "level two" on the spice meter to play it safe, however I didn't find it to be that spicy, so if you like a kick I'd suggest you go up to level 3. I would easily give this five stars if there was better customer service. The food is top notch, however, pretty consistently the waitresses are just alright. I remembered enjoying eating here so I came back at long last. I stopped for a late weekday lunch when there weren't a lot of customers and got a spot at the bar. I had a cup of tom yum with veggies and the drunken noodles with tofu. You can pay extra for protein in the soup but I liked it with just veggies. The sour and lightly sweet clear broth is what it's really about anyway. It was refreshing with the crisp vegetables. I ordered my noodles at spice level 4 (out of 5) and they had a nice sinus-clearing kick without the spice overwhelming the dish. They had a nice aromatic flavor from the basil and there was plenty of contrast between the thick noodles, stir-fried vegetables, scrambled eggs, and the tofu. Lucky Ginger lacks a lot of character, namely, any trappings of a Thai restaurant. Aside from the name and menu, this venue could have any kind of cuisine. There are dinosaurs and Star Wars figures in the windows and on the bar, sports playing on the TVs, and abstract art lining the dining area in the back. The views are a little sad, and the wooden furnishings could use some upkeep. We got the Drunken Noodles and Curry Fried Rice. Between the two, the noodles were the clear winner. The Curry Fried Rice was served at almost room temperature and had almost no flavor, while the Drunken Noodles were piping hot and filled with delectable peppers, onion, and mini-corns. Our service was friendly and prompt, and out of the way when we didn't need them. They even saved our takeout box after we forgot to bring it with us.I also appreciate the pay-by-QR method for the end of the meal. For context I ordered this on DoorDash so I cannot speak to the actual atmosphere or service. I'm not saying this to be dramatic but this is the worst Thai food I've ever had. The Tom Kha soup arrived separated and has many many vegtables it does not normally have (did not even eat it because it looked so bad). The satay is coated in some dark seasoning and tastes NOTHING like satay, tastes closer to indian curry and the peanut sauce was watery garbage. The pad thai which is usually the most dependable thing to get from a Thai place was barely passable and featured flavorless tofu. The calamari also had no flavor and was just greasy and heavy. The red curry was very watery and lacked depth. The only thing that tasted good was the Thai tea. This was pretty expensive so to wait and pay for food this bad was very dissapointing.
