I came here for lunch with my favorite aunt. She chose this place because it was just down the street from her house. I LOVE Thai food and I have been to Thailand so I definitely have high standards. Their lunch special is only served until 2PM. The specials range between $9-13 depending on the protein you choose. Each special comes with a salad, fried wonton (no filling) and white rice (extra $1 for brown rice). Before your entree, you're given a tamarind based soup. It looks spicy but it's very flavorful and of course sour. I got the chicken pad see ew and my aunt got the green curry with beef. I thought the pad see ew was pretty good. It wasn't anything too fancy but it's pretty much what you expect it to taste like. I sampled the green curry and thought it was good too but like my pad see ew, there wasn't much of a wow factor. A good mom and pop Thai restaurant, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but definitely a place I would come back to many times if I was in the area. read more

The prices they charge do not match their menu or online. This was my usual place but they added charges last time I went in. The yellow curry wasn't worth the $16.50... the menu says $11.95 including rice. They def charge for rice now. Cant have curry without rice, bummer...lol. Lady was rude when I pointed that out to her. I know people may be short staffed so I tip accordingly. But this is sad when a company takes advantage of people. read more

Charming little spot in the neighborhood, feels like a place unchanged for decades. I ordered takeout on the phone and was quoted 45 minutes but when I arrived to pick up the food wasn't ready yet for another 20 more minutes. The food was definitely good. Best Thai food I've had in years. I've had the massaman curry, catfish, and fried tofu and beef satay from the appetizer menu. All were incredibly good except for the fried tofu, which could stand to be crispier. Good portion sizes and prices as well. This is really good food at a good value and will become a staple takeout option for me. read more

I'm fairly picky about Thai and this place was pretty decent. We had the pad kee mow and masaman curry. Decently spicy and flavor was also fairly good. I think the food here was probably pretty good but beware of your level of spicy. I ordered Thai fried rice with chicken at level 4. I tried to ask the person who took the order about that level but she never understood my question. I could not eat it. Stopped here on our way to San Diego. The place is very small. They have about 8 tables that seat about 4 each. We noticed that a lot of people were doing to-go & pick up orders. This must be a local favorite for Thai food. Not sure if the high rating is due to the fact that there aren't many Thai options around, but IMO this place has subpar food. The Fried Wontons with Shredded Chicken were flavorful, but paper thin. The plum dipping sauce was good. The Ginger Chicken was the best item we had, but it was 85% veggies & only 15% chicken. The flavors were really good, but they're skimpy on the chicken. The Chicken Pad Thai looked beautiful, but lacked flavor & was too dry. It also had a particular spice to it that I haven't tasted in any other Pad Thai before. It was kid of odd tasting. We asked for lime to doctor it up a bit & the lady literally brought us one lemon wedge. Every Thai restaurant I've ever been to has chili sauce & peppers in small jars on the table & here they didn't, we had to ask for it. This is just my opinion because I've had way better in North OC. I'm surprised with these other reviews, because this was the strangest and the same time crappiest Thai restaurant I've ever been too. The waiter was really loud and flamboyant and aggressive. He was incredibly rude but in a nonchalant flirtatious kind of way (weird, I KNOW) and the service was really slow. Finally when the food came, my order was wrong ( it had eggs all up in it, which I specifically asked to OMIT, because I am vegetarian and loathe to eat eggs). I even think my boyfriends order was wrong too. And after I picked the eggs out (trust me, it was harder to get a waiter's attention than that) the food tasted like culo. ( 'culo' meaning ASS) Even stranger, when the food came for the table next to us, the waiter apologized for the long wait. Apparently there was someone in the group whose meal never even came, and she just sat and watched everyone else eat. But when the waiter came, they said "don't worry! At least the food and the service are great! We will always come back here." These people are obviously masochistic morons with cardboard tongues and no dining standards who like being sassed by cranky weirdo waiters. My boyfriend and I were SO glad to get out of the place and are never coming back. Eeek. Go to Monkgut Thai off Del Mar instead! That place is BOMB!!!!!!! read more

When we walked in the place was empty, which to me me isn't a good sign. We were greeted and seated right away, but when it came time to taking our order and getting our food it took FOREVER! We started off with the spring rolls that were served with a hot (temperature wise) peanut sauce......OMG heavenly! But they took forever to arrive at our table. Had the Pad Thai with scallops lunch special, served with your choice of white or brown rice and a side salad. I opted for the brown rice, which was moist and delicious. The pad Thai was yummy too and had the perfect amount of spiciness (if you like spicy, I recommend the level 4). But again, took for ever.... Placed a phone order. Showed up and told them my name, young lady already looked annoyed. Asked what was in my order because it didn't look like mine. She immediately rolled her eyes and said it's what you ordered "dawn". Perplexed, I said my name was John. She was already charging my card. Canceled the charge. Grabbed another order from the table and proceeded to charge me. I asked again what's in the bag, she proceeded to tell me my order. Two spring rolls and chicken curry. I asked for extra sweet and sour sauce, rolled her eyes again and went to go grab it but stopped and said that will be a dollar... I just spent 38 bucks and now I'm charged for sauce because prices went up "it cost money to make sauce". This place has never been cheap and that didn't matter. Been in San Clemente all my life and have been going there a long while. This will be my last time coming to this place. Customer service was horrible. I really don't get the one-star reviews for this place. I have been here at least ten times and I could never say that the place looked dirty. Maybe over decorated or overcrowded but never grimy or unkempt. The food was always fantastic, delicious and flavorful. I'm not Thai, I cannot 'attest' to its authenticity, I just go by what makes my taste buds stand up and cheer. The curries I had here and the Tom Khas had precisely that effect almost every time. It was never a truly bad experience. Seriously NOT happy with our service here. First, I will say that the food was good...this review isn't about the food necessarily....however, what kind of restaurant takes your order and doesn't allow you to add an ingredient to your food if they have it? Even when you know it will be an additional cost and willing to pay for it??? My husband asked to add pineapple to his pad thai and the server was adamant that it wasn't a good idea and refused to add it to the dish. He tried to be nice about it and asked a couple times and she was really rude about it. NO. Just NO. The server never came back to fill water glasses and continued to treat us as if we didn't exist for our entire lunch. Too busy watching the college football game and chatting at the counter. Won't be back, there are many other restaurants in San Clemente that are more appreciative of customers and their food requests. For anyone who got a bad experience, give it another shot! Yes, place is tiny, but family owned. I learned of this place coming with my sister and her family after the kids Tae Kwon Do class. Everytime I've gone here, the food has always been so flavorful and authentic. I LOVE spicy food, so they make it to the level I like. If its not spicy enough (since chillies can be more or less spicy because that's just how they are) they fix it. One time it was way too spicy, that I couldn't eat it, but they somehow fixed that too and it was brought back at a perfect level for me. Don is such a great guy! Friendly and a jokester, always makes us laugh. Not sure of the names, but both the Tom Yum and Tom Kha? (coconut base soup) are SOOO good, as well as the wide rice/drunken noodles! Even the kids love this place, and one has severe nut allergies but they've always been very careful not to contaminate his food, and we have never had any issues (at least when I've been with my sister's kids). Since I live far away, I look forward to eating here whenever I'm in the area visiting my family. Can't wait for next time! read more

I can't speak for the majority of their menu because I'm so addicted to their incredible curries, and it's probably going to stay that way! Each and every one is unique in its own way, yet mind-blowingly good: yellow, green, red, panang, massamun, and pineapple. Complex and flavorful with a medley of traditional ingredients, these are some of the best curries I've had in my life. I actually drive past two other Thai restaurants to go here, and it is so worth it. The waitress is always very friendly and they consistently have my food ready on time. Prices are reasonable as well, especially the lunch portions which, in my opinion, are perfectly sized. The dining area is cute but small, so I can imagine that this place would fill up pretty quickly during dinner time. I always take it to go and eat it in my car, so space doesn't bother me at all. This place is a secret. It's holed up inside of an office building behind Big Lots and across from Alex's Tailor. I know it's been there quite a long time. I've had food off and on there through the years -- even when it was owned by someone else -- and that's a long time. Today I got the Pad Kee Mow with Tofu. Just what I needed. I thought about this Spicy Basil-esque dish all the way from Irvine. I ordered the dish to go, but I wasn't asked if I wanted the lunch special -- didn't know what time it ended. Probably couldn't have gotten it anyway since, as I waited for my dish and flipped through the menu to see that the dish I wanted was offered with a lunch special, but it included soup and a wonton -- most likely full of meat, so I'm thinking it wasn't even offered to me for that reason. That's another little oddity -- none of their food outright states it can be made with Tofu -- but it can, and it's worth it if you don't want animal protein. $10.83! For one dish to go! Glad I skipped the Egg Rolls - though they are the BEST on the planet. If you want some yummy, crispified egg rolls, this is the place to go. But those little buggers ain't cheap for 4, either. If past memory serves me correctly, when purchasing a dish and egg rolls the bill easily rolls above $20. Ay yi yi! It's amazing how good this food is (my favorite Pad Thai, but everyone like theirs a little different). Today, as always, the vegetables were fresh and savory. They were perfectly cooked. I have to admit, though, today's Tofu was a little sad -- but that's a rarity. I made sure to eat the Tofu first and safe the tasty onions and noodles for last. My only complaint -- the price. They've slowly risen the prices up, up, and up through the years. I'm ignorant about their lunch specials, but they seem expensive, too, but that you get a lot to go with it -- like I mentioned above, there's soup and a wonton to accompany it -- probably a salad and rice -- for about the same price as the lonely entree. Their food is good so they can get away with it so far. The portions are pretty massive, too -- so another reason to be able to have an expensive dish. But, the price does keep me away since I have so many other Thai and Asian restaurants to choose from (and it's the closest Thai Restaurant to me, but I'd venture elsewhere to save some cash.) Delicious meal! 5 Stars!! My wife and I ordered chicken satay as an appetizer. Juicy marinated golden bbq chicken arrived. It was cooked to perfection. I don't know what they put on the marinade, but its a very unique blend of aromas. Not spicy at all. Then We shared the cucumber salad. The tamarind sauce they put on it is sweet and tangy at the same time. Our main dish was tough to choose. I went for the yellow curry, and my wife had the pad Thai. We shared Thai style. Expensive reheated frozen food. I decided to try this new Thai joint but it's just not worth it. My 6 yr old had the "kids chow mein" and it was boiled ramen noodles for $13! We ordered the steamed pot stickers that had freezer burns. The rest of the food was meh at best. On top of it all the service just wasn't that good. They barely spoke English and the prices were just too much for what you get. 3 people had frozen pot stickers, 2 entrees, and a kids meal and it was almost $60! We didn't even get drinks.
