In town visiting my Marine son and we were looking for something a little different. Checked out the menu and reviews on Yelp and we knew it would be good based on what y'all had written. They are super friendly and we picked a table outside in the sun. Our waiter was there anytime we needed and helpful with suggestions. Decided on the brussel sprouts as a starter then we both order the 1/2 Angus house burger and side salads. Those Brussel Sprouts came out looking amazing. They tasted far better than they even looked. Just enough crunchy and packed a serious flavor punch. We scarfed them down just in time to have the burgers come out. I like mine medium/well and my son medium/rare. They nailed the cook! Sank our teeth in and we both were overwhelmed by flavors and taste. I don't get a lot of feedback from son that's 21 but he was sure to tell me how good his was. I would have eaten two of them if I could have fit it in my belly. I love beignets so had to order them. A little different take from the NOLA beignets I'm used to but oh so good. That lemon custard type sauce on the side made it over the top though. Three other tables were seated around the same time as us and they were served way before us. We felt like most clients were locals. A friend and I tried this non-descript restaurant because they had vegan AND meat dishes. We were not disappointed! I had a burger and my friend had the vegan sandwich. The burger was awesome, but then I got a bite of the vegan sandwich and was blown away. The food is outstanding here. The hometown beach restaurant vibe is ideal for me. Very laid back. They have a good beer selection on tap, but I don't drink so can't comment on that I highly recommend MRK Public for a unique dining experience! We first tried to dine on a Monday and the wait was super long and they weren't offering takeout or reservations but luckily when we came back on Tuesday there was no wait! On a Sunday at 6PM MRK was full at the small bar, all tables and booths busy inside and outside. Outside space was cozy and warm with heaters. The wait was short. The servers were floating around dropping off plates and taking orders while the cooks in the open kitchen were stretching their limbs left and right keeping the pans on the burners and the orders popping out. I have never ever devoured chicken as did the special "chicken ribs" Chef Rayne conjured up here on Valentine's Day. Wow. Just wow. His three step process involves grilling, smoking, slow cooking. MRK public is great. their side salad is delicious. what I get is the Tofu Banh Mi. The flavors are so good , and I can't believe how well make the Tofu, it's charred and delicious. Hands down best preparation I've had of Tofu. I get the sandwich without aioli because I am vegan and it's still flavorful and delicious. I do wish they made the aioli vegan, that would be great. I can't believe I've never left a review, this is years coming. This is our favorite restaurant in San Clemente. We have been coming since they opened and they somehow have gotten better and retained their amazing food. My husband and I love the small menu (that's always a good sign of a great restaurant in our opinion). You literally can't go wrong with anything you order. For starters, we love the poke bowl, the wings (and I don't eat wings normally), and the Tuscan toast. The mussels are good too! For mains If you're a meat lover, they have the best burger in San Clemente according to my husband, they also have a pastrami sandwich, I think it's a special that my husband loves as well. We also like the fried chicken sandwich and any of the salads (the only restaurant we will order a salad at because they're actually good lol) For vegetarians or vegans, the tofu bahn mi is my FAV. You could also make it a salad if you are gluten free. Also the Dal Makhani is AMAZING. Don't skip out on their fries, they're also incredible and for dessert I recommend the beignets. They have a great selection of beers, and I recommend also ordering a bottle of Rose, it's not too sweet, I've taken a picture of it I like it so much. As if the food wasn't good enough to make you come back, the staff is awesome, from the servers to the kitchen crew everyone is always so friendly and welcoming. I come to San Clemente quite often in summer time for surfing and I'm always looking for something new and different, so I decided to try this place out. This place is a super casual vibe, beer and wine with some yummy food and friendly service. We sat outside and the people were cool and friendly, I asked the couple who were having big juicy burgers how's the burger, the guy said he's had many burgers but this burger is the best, I'd like to try their burger next time.(they only have one type of burger) This time we got amazing Japanese style brussel sprouts, tuscan toast, thai salad with poke that 2 of the servers recommended and vanilla bean panna cotta as dessert.
