I've tried this restaurant on multiple occasions, and the food quality is cheap and imitative. For instance, they serve "chow mein", but it's just Top Ramen style noodles (curly, thin, weightless) in their sauce. Granted, chow mein isn't Thai anyways, so my bad for thinking it would be good. Anyhoo, compared to other places, the dining environment is UNBEARABLY quiet and awkward, and I've had much more flavorful and carefully-prepared food elsewhere. This is my go to Thai place in south Orange County. It helps that I live close by, but even if I didn't I would still drive to come here! Their food is always delicious and fresh, and comes out quick as well. The restaurant inside is pretty small, but you can dine in or take out. Beware! They charge a 15% service fee for a large group. Doesn't say anything about it anywhere and once I figured it out the lady came up to me and informed me. After I signed the receipt. Thai Paradise was always our favorite Thai place but recently Bud and her fantastic cooks picked it up a couple of notches with old family recipes and I tell you, it is heavenly ! We came two days in a row to eat the exact same thing then the day before. I had ( what is now my favorite dish in the world) Catfish Chilly, it'll make your head explode with it's flavors and textures. The fish is crispy and the mild chilly sauce has fresh herbs in it... a dish like that is why Anthony Bourdain did Vietnam and Thailand twice. The other dishes are just as great. Good wines if you desire and the service is kind and ladylike... did I mention how clean it is ? We couldn't love the place more. read more

We live in the area and both love Thai food. We were getting tired of the one downtown (kind of starts tasting more like Chinese food after a few visits), and thought this was worth a try. We've driven past it on the way back from Sprouts but never really gave it a second thought, being so off the beaten path. It's not a fancy place, but you feel completely comfortable and the food was absolutely amazing. Green Curry, Pad Thai (yum) and to my surprise, they knew what I was talking about when I ordered Ginger Chicken - which was not on the menu but my all time favorite. I'm surprised with these other reviews, because this was the strangest and the same time crappiest Thai restaurant I've ever been too. The waiter was really loud and flamboyant and aggressive. He was incredibly rude but in a nonchalant flirtatious kind of way (weird, I KNOW) and the service was really slow. Finally when the food came, my order was wrong ( it had eggs all up in it, which I specifically asked to OMIT, because I am vegetarian and loathe to eat eggs). I even think my boyfriends order was wrong too. And after I picked the eggs out (trust me, it was harder to get a waiter's attention than that) the food tasted like culo. ( 'culo' meaning ASS) Even stranger, when the food came for the table next to us, the waiter apologized for the long wait. Apparently there was someone in the group whose meal never even came, and she just sat and watched everyone else eat. But when the waiter came, they said "don't worry! At least the food and the service are great! We will always come back here." These people are obviously masochistic morons with cardboard tongues and no dining standards who like being sassed by cranky weirdo waiters. I ordered the summer rolls and the pad see ew. Both delicious! The noodles, especially, were SO GOOD. I ate the entire portion by myself. I woke up the next day with a really bad headache, so I did wonder about MSG. But, according to other reviews, they don't use it. It was probably just salty. Will definitely order again. read more

Okay, so I went out to lunch with a friend a week ago, to this place again... I think new owners took over or something cause now this place sucks. The tom yum soup DID NOT TASTE like tom yum soup. You couldn't even taste the lemongrass at all... and then there was this weird additional added spice that didn't taste right at all, and the spicy spice was not in it! I was like...what. the. heck. Also--their pad thai was overly saturated with the orange stuff. Almost to the point of pure disgustingness. Additionally, the friendly thai women were not there. A big, large, white man, an asian teenage girl, an asian "grandma", and an asian "grandpa", and also a mexican man...who were all workers...sat down next to our table to eat their lunch. It was sort of awkward cause we went in at 3pm, so there wasn't anyone there, because nobody eats in the afternoon. But the awkward part was mostly formed by the fact that these people were all sitting at the table SMACK next to our table. And then my friend and I were in a deep conversation about life, and the "grandpa" breaks into our conversation suddenly out of the blue with his happy, smiling face and asks us how our food is. It was weird... it was like we were eating lunch with them. And then it was just weird overhearing their conversations...since we were right next to them...and how the teenage girl talked about putting cats and husbands into a closet when you get mad at them. and then my friend said she overheard the teenage girl saying something about how we look like we're lesbians... I'm heterosexual. I was out to lunch with a friend! It's just weird to me that workers would talk about and judge their customers while the customers are eating lunch and buying food from their restaurant. It was just weird all around... especially the fact that the girl worker kept giving me strange looks and staring at us eating. So basically, the whole experience was SO weird. It got to the point where my friend and I were typing to each other on our phones... Leftover food score: I tried warming up my pad thai today, and it tasted awful and I had to throw it away. So go here when... (1) It isn't in the afternoon or (2) If you want to overhear strange conversations by the workers or (3) You want a unique form of Tom Yum soup that you can't find anywhere else. I've been eating Thai food for over 30 years, and I've been from Los Angeles, to San Bernardino, to San Diego, as well as up and down Orange County, so I know what Thai food in Southern California should taste like. First off, this place is pretty much a hole in the wall. It's nice and quaint, so I can be pretty forgiving with holes in the wall because many of them are inexpensive, but have great food. This place has the nerve to be a little pricey, which is surprising when you look around at the décor. So I'm thinking, their food must be incredible for them to get away with it. Second, ordered the Combination Sampler appetizer and it said it came with satay, so we ordered beef. They said it only comes with chicken but she would ask. She comes back and says the chef said no. Already a sign that things are going to go downhill, so we accepted the chicken. There was only one other couple in the place, so why would you state that a dish comes with "satay" but then tell you it only comes with chicken and can't give you beef? Most Thai restaurants I've been in, the chicken and beef satay costs the same. Third, I love Tom Kha Gai and have it every time I have Thai. They don't really have it, they have something similar, so I ordered it as an entrée with some rice. It appeared to have the same ingredients as the Tom Kha Gai, so I thought it was the same. I ordered the soup and my husband the yellow curry with chicken. So far, every Thai restaurant has figured out that I consider the soup as my entrée. They brought out the soup first and I said I had wanted it as my main meal. The waitress explained that the appetizer takes more time and to eat the soup in the meantime. I pushed it aside. So we're waiting waiting waiting and she finally comes back and says that she'll take the soup back and bring it back later, but tells me that I should have told her the soup was for the entrée. Sigh. Finally get the appetizer after a real long wait and it's nice, but everything is lukewarm to cool. We were so hungry we ate it. Then she brings out the main meal. I gave my husband some of the soup and he frowned. He looked at me and said "you're not going to like it." Okay, my best description of their rendition of Tom Kha Gai is if Denny's decided to offer it. This soup had next to zero flavor, and that being the two tiny leaves of cilantro floating in it. Also, there were carrots and cabbage in it. Ewww. No galanga root, kaffir lime leaves, or lemongrass. No coconut taste, no sour or spicyness to it whatsoever. It was bland. I think it was just coconut milk mixed with chicken broth and water. I looked over at my husband and asked about his curry dish. It had the same bland, watered down taste. Hardly any flavor. I didn't eat all of the soup, I decided to take the broth and the rest of the rice to spice it up myself. So I tell the waitress I'd like to take it home. She brings over the containers and boxes and walks away, leaving me to pack it myself. To add to all of this, my husband ordered Jasmine tea and there were three packs of white sugar in the container. He likes his tea very sweet so he asked for more sugar twice and each time she would set two sugars on the table. You would think if someone told you they liked their tea very sweet and they use regular sugar, to just give them a bunch of packets since you're refilling the tea, but we had to ask each time. Geez. I really don't like giving bad reviews, but I have never had an experience this bad, especially at a Thai restaurant. I've had some restaurants that tasted better than others, but at least the food has been decent. This was bad, I mean really bad. I would have given one star, but the second star was because the combination sampler item was creative and good, despite it being lukewarm. For the prices they charge, the crappy décor, and for what you get, please, just look for better in the neighborhood, go to San Juan Capistrano. Just no! read more

I can't believe this is rated 4 stars. The restaurant is dirty. I stuck to the table, my menu's pages stuck together, the picture menu on the tables were splattered with food - it was gross. I ordered hot tea to drink and the cup had a ring stain on the inside. I rubbed my finger on it and it came right off. If they are ok with serving hot tea in a cup that is clearly dirty, imagine what they do to the food. I ordered the Tom Yum soup and Pad Thai. The soup was just a bowl of oil with spice and the Pad Thai is was blah. I wish I liked this place since its so close to my house but I will not be going back here. I really want to like this place but the service here is horrible. The food is okay but I don't think I'll ever come back. The lady who takes my take out order is really rude, forget about asking questions about the menu she will just roll her eyes and huff and puff and she also likes to complete my order before I'm even finished ordering. The place is always empty so it's not like she has other important things to attend too. This is my 3rd time here this month every time the food has been okay but thrown together in a to go box and this same lady isn't welcoming. Today was the second time eating at Thai Paradise and it confirmed my suspicion that it is the best Thai place in San Clemente. So far I have enjoyed 3 different soups and they were all delicious. This place is wonderful! The food is DELICIOUS. Better pad thai than anywhere in San Diego except Cafe de Thai in Carlsbad, and I've been searching high and low. Pad thai was phenomenal - you can really tell they use the traditional tamarind instead of cheaping out and using vinegar. Panang had a great, rich flavor but was a bit too spicy for me. Tom kha was awesome, lots of coconut flavor and not too sour; also no pesky lemongrass stalks to pick out. The satay chicken was incredibly good - like it had been marinating for a good long time and it was grilled to perfection. Peanut sauce was exceptional too. The staff were all sooo nice! Many regulars came in while we were there - many families - and the older woman was so friendly to all the kids! You can tell she really loves her customers. She treated us very well too. After we had almost finished, the rice arrived. The pad Thai had no depth of flavor, just sweet, not spicy at all, and not even any lime! We asked for water 4 times in a row before she brought it, and I had to ask for hot sauce twice. If you want great Thai food head north to Lake Forest and hit "Spice Thai" (not Thai Spice, blech!) or Costa Mesa for George's. This is by far the most flavorful and freshest Thai food you are going to find. None of the other places in the area hold a candle to it and it's worth driving to this little beach town just to experience the food. It's a little restaurant and could easily be mistaken for just your ordinary Thai place in a beach town but it is truly unique. Not even in major US cities where there are countless restaurants to choose from have I ever found a Thai restaurant that is this good as well as consistent. I should know since I pretty much live for Thai food and have eaten in some pretty amazing places around the country and abroad. The staff and owner are are also incredibly friendly and accommodating. If you have any allergies or special requests they will listen to you and make sure you get exactly what you want. They also don't use junk in their food like MSG. Something which can't be said about many nearby competitors. I have very high expectations and I would give this restaurant 6 stars if I could. read more
