Love this place. Great pad thai and the sticky rice is fantastic. Location is convenient but it's kind of a hole in the wall with no scenery, bland atmosphere, etc. I would only go during off-peak hours as it gets quite busy. The only complaint I have is that they need more room. Other than that, good Chow Mein for a sweet price. Try it out. If you're a guy, you'll like this place as it's women and feminine boys complaining about ambiance, paying too much for tea and greasiness. Also, disregard the reviewers from Austin and Houston. As good as Thai food gets in Lubbock. The service is extremely fast and the atmosphere is small and friendly. It usually gets crowded with students in the evenings, but the food and the price are worth it. My favorite is the yellow curry. My girlfriend loves the pad thai and panang curry. I think this would probably be 3 stars in the Bay Area, where I live, but I've bumped its star quotient given its West Texas context. If you like spice, even just a little bit, order your food "hot." I would never do this in the Bay Area--I'm more a "medium+" on the spice meter here--but I ordered my green curry "spicy" and it had a nice kick to it. Anything less and I think the flavor would have been bland. As it was presented, though, this was a delicious green curry, with layers of flavor and enough jasmine rice to soak up the sauce. Note to vegetarians: they don't have tofu as an option for the curries (they list "chicken, beef, shrimp"), but I asked for it and they served up my curry with fried tofu, no questions asked. Seems like they maybe just forgot to put it on the menu? Or maybe there are no vegetarians in Lubbock? Our server was sweet, but clearly overloaded. Service throughout the restaurant seemed slow and chaotic, drink refills were non-existent, tables were not cleared/bused--but they were extremely busy while we were there, so I'll cut them that slack. Visiting the bf from Las Vegas, yes I actually live there. Chose this place after reading some reviews on yelp and other sites. So....... Place was surprisingly busy for a Thursday night. Literally almost all the table were taken but 2. We sat ourselves and waited for a few minutes before we were greeted and drink orders taken. There was like a million take out orders being prepped. It took about 15 mins to get our food. We had the Thai beef salad: Delish. Very meaty as it should be and full of flavor. Asked for spicy. It has a good kick but not nose running, crying, slurping water hot. Pad Thai- chicken substituted for beef: Very yummy. A bit on the sweet side in comparison to other pad thais Ive eaten but good. Also asked for spicy but it seemed more mild due to the sweetness of the dish. Kool special: This item was not on the menu but I asked for since I had seen it mentioned on here a few times. This was my boyfriends dish, he is not a huge fan of thai food or any asian food but seemed to enjoy his plate. I had a bite and it was pretty delish! The beef was very good and it even had a small fried egg on the plate. Overall success. Would eat here again for sure. Glad we found a thai spot in Lubbock. :) read more

Great food, the only bad thing I have had from here is an egg roll. DO NOT GET THE EGG ROLLS! My only complaint (beside the egg rolls) is that the place is too small. If you go during lunch or dinner, it is a good idea to get there early. Expect to wait if you don't go early. read more

Absolutely phenomenal food and a very friendly staff. One of the best local restaurants Lubbock has to offer. They stay pretty busy from open to close and with everyone trying to order on the phone it can be difficult to get in but it's well worth it. I would much rather give my business and money to this local family owned and operated restaurant over any Asian food chain or other such place. read more

I love Thai. I attend Thai festivals and believe it is the best food when prepared right. We heard so much about this place it was worth a shot. The first time we went to try they were closed. Weird hours. Second time-too busy. Third time, also too busy but we were famished so we ordered take out. I would say decently disappointing. We ordered the crab wraps- I know them as Rangoons. The sauce was lacking and stuffing bland. I make better at home. So I wouldn't get those. We also ordered one of the soups. I say "one of" because it was regretfully forgettable. A chunk of tofu and no taste. I am glad I keep some Siracha in my "outing bag" can't leave home without it. So then I review our entree. When I first go to a Thai place I order the Pad Woon Sen. Always. Those noodles are something else. Thai peppers' were decent. But I won't be craving their take on the magic crystal noodles anytime soon. Sorry Lubbock. If this is as good as your Thai gets...you are severely missing out. You might be better off researching some recipes online and making your own spicy disasters. So between the prices being spot on-it's cheap for portion sizes, the food being sub-par, and the place being packed...I can't give more than three stars. Our favorite place to get Thai when we are in Lubbock. Food options are good with almost too much to eat on the portion sizes. The only knocks that keep it from getting 5 stars are: service can be hit or miss depending on how crowded it is, when overwhelmed the phone will ring and ring and ring and I have been on the opposite side of that where I try to get a to-go order only to have a busy line or no one picks up, the spiciness of the food is hit or miss where a medium plus one day comes out as a hot on the next or a mild another time. Those issues aside, we have learned to get to the restaurant right at opening time for lunch or dinner to make sure we can get a table and have good service. Can't go wrong with any of the curry dishes with a medium on the heat. Pad Thai and Pad Woon Sen are also decent; not the best I've had but definitely above average. read more

Me and my boyfriend are regulars here. We dine in and sometimes call in a to go order. There's normally a line, but that should tell you something if it's always busy. I travel all over and I've eaten at many Thai restaurants and I believe between this one and another I found in San Antonio these are my favorites and have the best Pad Thai of any other Thai place I've been to. They give you a appetizer of like a fried crunchy ting with a sweet almost duck-like sauce that is awesome. I have only had a couple of dishes here so I can only speak to those. Rudest people ever, they treat us very badly, they made us to wait super long time just because to waitress were arguing where we have to seat. I was so embarrassed in front my guests came from other state. They brought our food so late on purpose, because we asked them why you argue that long. The owners used to cook at Thai Thai on 50th....but the food tastes better, it's cleaner, and cheaper than any of the other 4 thai places in town. Been eating here since they opened, it's like our own little backyard kitchen, we always end up here if we can't decide, plus its close to campus. Pad thai is addictive... not authentic pad thai, this is a little sweeter, no lime or mix it yourself veggies/peanuts, but just as good. The secret is the tamarind sauce and sweet soy. My favortie is still the rad na, with jalapenos and extra gravy. All the soups and curries taste good. Best thing about the place is they don't upcharge you if u wanna change the protein from beef to chicken or pork....and you can specify how hot u want the food. Personally I think the chicken is like cardboard...always go for the beef. The free wonton chips is a nice touch, but they run out early. Don't forget to make your own dip at the sauce station in the back..a little fried garlic oil, some pickled jalapenos, soy and viola, ur own gourmet dip for chips Always a long wait so avoid the crowd and go early or late...they do take a break between 3-5pm. Cut the staff some slack since they are a family place...mom and pop in the kitchen, kids in the front...they could jack up the price and hire more people, but they did not do that to customers. I'm a huge fan of Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Chicken) and if you get their curries to go they ARE a little more like soups but It's okay because I save the leftover liquid and make my own curry chicken with it the next day with some rice and vegetables. Just because I stood there for a bit, If you go, it is a seat yourself establushment, even though it doesnt say that anywhere. I LOVE THIS PLACE! You can't go wrong with the Fried Pork Wontons and Thai Tea! I normally get the Pad Thai...or Fried Rice...or Kool Special. The food is great! The space inside the restaurant is very small, and most of the time super packed. You can get the food to go or wait and grab a table when they become available. They've got a small staff who are all very nice, and do their best to wait the tables and take the orders as fast as they can in the packed facility. The food is moderately priced, and well worth it. I love Thai Pepper! The yellow curry chicken is a piece of heaven. It can be almost like a soup if eaten with just a spoon. The chicken sa-tay is also amazing. I like take out, although the others aren't lying when they say that the kid at the front can be rude, but the food over shadows that by a milestone. It was a mimic of real pad thai...very oily, adding spice simply meant dumping crushed red pepper on top...it's pad thai, not pizza, right? I called in my order and was told 10-15 minutes. Got to the restaurant in 15 minutes and waited 15 more as once I paid, a minimum of 7 other people were assisted while my food sat. Egg rolls were good but cold when I ate when in the parking lot. I lived in Lubbock for several years and always loved going here. Since I moved away, I'm still craving their Pad Thai. I haven't tried very many things off the menu because the Pad Thai is just that good. I went back last week while visiting and it's still just as good! Lunch time gets very busy, very fast. It's quite popular and is a "seat yourself" place. Refills on drinks don't come that quickly, but it's not that hard to get someone's attention to get more water.
