I'm in a love hate relationship with Thai Pepper. The food is some of the best/cheapest Thai food you'll find in LBK. With that being said 3/4 times I come to eat here they are closed for weeks at a time. They're so inconsistent. Most recently I tried to call for 10-15 minutes with no answer and then had to drive to place a to-go order in store just to realize that the phone was off the hook. Being told it would be a 10-15 minute and then waiting 30. Absolutely ridiculous. But for sure try the Pad Thai if they are ever actually open. Amazing food. The service is pretty good; the staff is friendly and decently prompt. As another reviewer mentioned, it could be a little cleaner. You're expected to seat yourself - but that means the tables can be sticky, as was the case when I dined there. Eventually, a girl came by and wiped the table off, but still. That aside, this place has some of the best curry you can get in Lubbock. I've been a few different places and I definitely prefer Thai Pepper. They also have a decent vegetarian selection and are willing to substitute the meat on dishes. Overall, great food. Sometimes, it's busy, but definitely worth the wait. And, they do carry-out. Amazing food! Fresh ingredients and great preparation really come together for a great meal! I recommend the yellow curry spicy if you think you can handle it! Ginger chicken if you are afraid of catching on fire from the spices. The only reason I have to give it a 3/5 is the poor over the phone and to-go service they have. Their phone only has 2 lines so after ~6pm you can't call because the line is always busy. The staff will put you on hold and forget about you which is disappointing. I am updating my review so I can give it 5 stars. Since I have written my review I have continued to visit this location at least once a week, sometimes two times. The wait staff has started to recognize my husband and I and remember our orders. This is crazy because they are always so busy. I love coming here and trying all the menu has to offer. Instead of two dishes, I know have 5 different dishes that I want when I go. It is always such a hard choice to choose one, they are all so perfect in their own way. I recently have been showing Pad woon sen a lot of attention. It is thin rice noodles with a perfectly not too sweet sauce with bean sprouts and a little egg. I usually get chicken, but all the types are rockin. I'll Thai anything once here. I went into this restaurant because my little brother had been meaning to give it a try for some time. Despite mixed reviews, I decided to give it a shot. Right from the start, I was already displeased with the service. It took a few minutes for the person at the front, who wasn't helping anyone, to tell us that we could sit anywhere. There was only one table open to seat my group of three, but there was still dishes from the previous group. After sitting, it took nearly 10 minutes for someone to finally clean the table then another 7-10 minutes until we were rudely acknowledged by the server who originally cleaned our table. (For any managers reading this, I never got his name, but he wears thick plastic black frame glasses and has somewhat of a goatee. He doesn't need to be working in the restaurant industry). Eventually, another server came to us to FINALLY bring menus out and take our drink orders. She brought our drinks out just in time, because we were starting to get up to leave. Now on to the food. I made sure to put aside all bad feelings I had from the bad service. Thai food is one of my favorite cuisines out there so I can get very picky with it, especially when it comes to curry dishes. I have tried many different curries from all cuisines that make them, some being very viscous and others being somewhat saucy. I found their curry dishes to be very soupy and didn't really have to much flavor. The meat cuts in this curry soup were not all of good size either. Some pieces were a bit small while other pieces I would consider shreds. The Pad Thai was relatively flavorful, but it is one of my least favorites that I have tried. Its on par to Pad Thai made from your common chain restaurant. It also only had one shrimp, that was a disappointment. The only thing I really enjoyed was the fried tofu I had for an appetizer. You can't really go wrong when it comes to something this is battered and fried. Unfortunately, I felt the eggrolls I ordered were more like something you can get out of the freezer isle of a grocery store. At least that was deep fried as well. Overall, the food was sub-par, and I would only return there if it was the only restaurant open, all grocery stores were closed, and I had absolutely nothing to eat at home. As for the service, I've had better service at a late night drive through window from someone who clearly didn't want to be working past 2:00am. read more

Volcano soup will make your soul happy and your colon clean...sometimes I want something a little oily...fried rice baby...and then they have all your normal thai dishes with a kick of this is how it is done to them...get it all medium the first time. Oh and do not be freaked out the ladies in the back are totally breaking down paste, veggies, what not...on the counter outside the restrooms...who cares...the heat in the pan will get rid of the contamination hahaha. Oh and do not go at a peak time...you will wait FOREVER...but it is totally worth it! Thai Pepper is one of our family's favorite Lubbock restaurants. I am not an expert on Thai food, but I don't have to be, because I can go to Thai Pepper! For lunch, make sure you get there at 11:45 or sooner to get a table. Make sure you try the cheese wontons for an appetizer, my favorite entrees are Pad Thai and Gang-Garee. It's pretty much always packed to the gills, so just get used to getting friendly with the people in line or at the tables next to you. Lubbock has tons of great options for Thai food, and each one of the Thai places has their specialties. If you want Khow Soy, go to Thai Thai. If you want a noodle soup, go to Bangkok. But if you get a hankering for Pad Thai, Thai Pepper is the place to go. Like any self-respecting Thai place, they're closed randomly with seemingly no logic behind it (this is common, and not a knock on Thai Pepper). Thai Pepper is a lovely little place to grab a bite of delicious food. The prices are good and the service was always friendly when I went. It is near Texas Tech. So, I went a lot my freshman year when I was homesick for my mom's cooking.
