I haven't been to this place in a few years but when I used to come it was great. I remember the food be awesome. Today I revisited this place and to my surprise it was not as I remember. I ordered the spicy shrimp along with an egg drop soup and soft drink. The server brought out a small basket if wanton chips then our drinks. After waiting about 20 minutes our food came out. No one had brought us our soups which we had ordered. So we began to eat out entrees and the spicy shrimp was what was expected. It ess actually not appealing at all. The taste disappointing. I was really surprised because I remember this place being great. After eating half the entree then the server realized that we had not been given our soups. Then they only brought one soup instead of two as ordered. Talk about frustrating. Our drinks were never offered to be refilled which is diappointing. Sadly this location has changed and most likely will rethink coming here again. read more

The food is terrific. No complaints. The pad thai is as good as any I've had. Minus two stars, though, for this very serious reason. They have a severe bottleneck in the form of one cash register where you have to stand in line to pay. it's extremely inefficient and can burn 25 minutes or more easily. Thai food lovers in Lubbock recognize this problem, all gripe about it, and though all love the food many avoid Thai Pepper like the plague. This is a terrible shame given the excellent quality of their food. TP would own the town if they somehow streamlined their operation. Having said all this, they do a big business (hospital next door). Maybe they don't care. If you're feeling intrepid, by all means go, burn the time, fight the crowd, you will enjoy the food. But, if this type of gross inefficiency irritates you as it does me and many, many others, go to another of the Thai restaurants in town. None hit the spot for me like TP, but most are good in their own way! read more

We had lunch there today and ate at the restaurant and then placed 3 to go orders. When we returned to the hospital we noticed we only received 2 of the 3. We immediately called and we were told to come back over. When that individual went over to get his order he was told that they had looked over the register tapes and we did not order an additional item. Therefore, it would be necessary to pay for it a second time. So, for $9 (NINE DOLLARS) he pissed off a bunch of hospital employees. Love the chicken sa te, cream cheese wontons, and ginger chicken. I always get Medium spiciness and it's perfect amount of heat. I've never had an issue with calling in my order or with the waitstaff. They are always prompt with the orders, in 15 minutes or less my food is ready! They stay insanely busy during the lunch and dinner hours so not a lot of conversation goes on with the waitstaff but they have always been courteous. read more

I love Thai pepper so much! I hate that I missed out on it my whole freshman year but I'm so glad I got to it while I still have a few years here in Lubbock. I love the Pad Thai. It is so amazing and I literally dream about it like 4 times a week. Get there early so you can try the yummy little chip things with the sweet dipping sauce. They usually run out about an hour into their dinner time. If calling in be patient, it takes a few time for them to get to the phone. Serving sizes are great and I usually have leftovers. When asked for the spiciness of your plate, if it has the option, I always get the "hot" version but beware because that might be a bit much for people who can't handle spices too well. read more

Heaven!! Best Pad Thai ever. Moist, but not soaked in oil. Perfectly seasoned (I always order medium). Cheese wontons are crispy and perfectly sweet. Their homemade chili in oil over their fried chips, delicious!!! Addicted to this place and eat here at least twice a week. Trying their "Cool Special" per friends recommendation. In Lubbock, I really think this is the best Thai food in town. Even if the food is a bit burnt, it's still good. But they have only burnt my pad thai just once since I've been here so I don't think it's a common thing. However, this place is in such a good location right by the hospital and the university that it is always busy!!! If you call during busy hours, good luck on your getting your call through or even getting your call answered. If you're really craving it, just go to the restaurant and be prepared to wait in the never ending line. Also, this restaurant tends to be closed for, what feels like, long periods of time at the most random times. I guess that's why it's always busy too - because people crave it when it's closed and then all flock to THE Thai Pepper when it's finally open! All in all, it's great food with the same really nice people once you finally get their attention. Just be prepared to wait for a long time. Because it really is busy. read more

Best in Lubbock? Maybe, but still mediocre. We ordered an array of things togo. Everything was super GREASY. Like so much grease that I had a stomach ache the rest of the day. The fried pork wontons were not at all what we expected. Very little pork filling, and they soaked the paper bag in grease. I literally thought the bag was trash to be thrown out until they started filling it with sauce and chopsticks before my eyes. I should have said we didn't want them with the order right then and there. Pad Thai was just as greasy with little flavor and no egg. The noodles were obviously old, and clumped together, which was odd bc we ordered just minutes after they opened. What's up with that? Yesterday's leftovers? Tom ka gai and red curry had tomatoes.... Why????? I hate it when Thai joints do this. It's not traditional and totally taints the flavor of the entire dish, adding a weird acidity that even the coconut can't smooth out. Everything was pretty watered down. The curry was more of soup. Sauces were watered down too. Basically, this place needs to step up their game. I won't be coming back. read more

Now normally, I enjoy my experience at Thai Pepper. I always get the Kool Special and it's delicious! But today the customer service was poor. My friends and I were sitting down waiting for our to go orders and one of the workers forced us to get up and said the tables were for dine in customers only. I got up and as I looked around I saw several dirty tables. If they were so concerned with seating I would think they would clean more tables. The restaurant lacks space as it is. Very rude and disappointed with how they handled this. Rude and embarrassing to be asked to get up and move in a restaurant full of people. read more

This is my favorite place to go in Lubbock. The prices are good and the food is excellent. The service is definitely lacking at times but for me that isn't as important as good food. My favorites are the volcano soup(huge and hot), pad thai, and the kool special. I also really like their thai iced tea. This place isn't really that good, and it's reasonably americanized thai. Nevertheless, it isn't bad and in Lubbock, that puts it on top of the heap in terms of Thai and Asian food in general. Ok so the service isn't that great but the food totally makes up for it. My favorite is the vegetable fried rice. My husband frequently gets the volcano soup or the shrimp pineapple curry dish. Certainly the best padd thai in town and subjectively the best fried rice in town. The spicy fish is incredible. The food is simply awesome, the only problem seems to be that they're TOO awesome and TOO successful. It's a miracle--a pleasant surprise at least, if I'm able to call in the evening and break through to an actual human being to place an order. I'm more often unsuccessful than successful. The restaurant is tiny, the dining area is maybe 200 square feet, and that might be a bit generous, so it's noisy and claustrophobic. It's painfully obvious that their human and material resources are stretched thinly but in spite of that, they're locked in and making some awesome food as the situation stands. Would food quality suffer if they expanded or relocated to meet demand? That's up for conjecture. But if you are lucky enough to break through on the phone or to be seated in that tiny dining area, then prepare for an awesome meal, if not an awesome ordering and dining experience. read more

My complaint isnt with the food so much as its with the website saying they are open, and in fact, they were not. I drove over on dec 30th, closed. The sign (NOT THE WEBSITE) said closed for the holiday and will open again on jan. 3rd. Well today is the 7th of jan, drove all the way there, after checking the website that says they are open, closed! Wtf! I dont live near there by any stretch of the imagination, so two wasted trips and not opened. I wont attempt it again. read more

Food is okay. However, they have an ingenuous way to "RIP OFF" each guest. For example, If your meal is $5 they will charge you $10 just to use your debit/credit card (which most people use these days). You don't find this out until you make your way to the register to pay. If you have no cash, you're forced to pay $10 for a $5 meal. I'll return when this policy is changed. read more
