Very disappointed in the chicken pad Thai, the noodles were all chopped up and way to much sauce was on the dish. When finished eating there was an oily residue left on the plate. Delicious Thai food beautifully prepared, gracious and fast service in this lovely little restaurant. I've enjoyed the perfectly spiced entrees and soups at Tai Phoon and I look forward to returning . The Pad Thai is expertly prepared with the fresh ingredients blended exquisitely and included a generous portion of plump and tasty shrimp. We tried Thai Hot Herb Chicken and loved the curry paste coconut milk blend with snow peas , bamboo shoots ,bell peppers and basil. The garlic and black pepper Frog Legs were also very good , nicely prepared in tasty garlic and black pepper sauce served over broccoli , carrots and cabbage. The Tom Yum shrimp soup had three large plump shrimp and the broth was as perfect as it could be. The lovely waitress provides such courteous , pleasant and gracious service and added to the whole experience. I definitely look forward to coming back often and trying their different sauces ; all of which so far have been perfectly prepared. read more

After wandering around an fried food haven for days, we finally found this place and what a relief, for my spirit and body! While they have fried Thai options like fried tofu and rice, they also have fresh vegetables, lovely jasmine tea great spicy and non-spicy Thai food that made it a real pleasure. This is one of the better Thai restaurants I've been to, and I eat a lot of Thai food. Our friends who live in the area dine here often, and told us the chef once worked in the royal kitchen. After eating here, I believe it. Everything we tried was very fresh, with perfectly balanced flavors and careful use of fats. Most folks rate a Thai place on the Phad Thai, but it's the green curry that's my barometer, and theirs is great. Nice surprise in little ole Crystal River. Thai Phoon makes very good Thai food. It is more traditional then many other places I have been in larger cities. They tend not to over sweeten dishes and use the right about of herbs and sour components to give their food authenticity. On this trip I had the Tom Ka Chicken Soup. Love the broth of the soup. The chicken is merely steamed sliced and added with a couple mushrooms(consistent with other Thai places) but the broth is spot on. They make a wonderful Fresh Roll which is a cold rice paper wrapped veggies with Shrimp and Thai Basil. Great peanut dipping sauce. Finally I had the Pad Thai hot which had a great balance of flavor, again the "sour" or tart flavorings really make the food pop. The hot was not as hot as I was ready for but it was a nice glow that lingered. Service here is "homey". Nice folks but do not expect a high end experience. The food is cooked to order so you might have to wait a bit and if they are slammed, that can be a small issue. Great food. Nice folks. Exceptional for such an out of the way location. read more

This is my favorite Thai place in the Citrus County Area. It is easily comparable with Thai places you would find in larger settings (and I have been to many), yet still has the quaintness of small town dining. I've sampled many things from the menu, but my absolute favorites include the Panang Chicken, the Massaman Curry, and the Tom Yum soup. If you are a fan of spicy like I am, be sure to tell your server that you want your dish Thai Hot, I promise you won't be disappointed. If you really love spicy, then tell the server you want Thai Hot plus plus plus, but be prepared to sweat. We came to Crystal River for the Manatee Tour and tried to find a good Asian restaurant in the area. Based on the good ratings by many people on Yelp, we decided to go to Thai Phoon. The restaurant was very clean and the service was good. Although we are not Thai, their food looked authentic. We ordered Steamed Seafood Curry, Green Curry, Pad Thai, and Pad Ba Mee. Everything was delicious, but it was not as spicy as typical Thai food, maybe because we did not specify the spiciness and they made the food mild. You may want to order at least a moderate level of spiciness, if you prefer the typical spiciness of Thai food. read more

Had the sweet and sour beef. Wife had the cashew chicken. Both came with delightful chicken soup and a spring roll. Both main dishes were fresh, very tasty, filling, beautiful to look at. The menu is huge and varied. Prices were very reasonable. Tables were new, clean, attractive, and well spaced. Service was prompt, attentive, and knowledgable. Best Thai I have had since moving to Florida from California. I've had some really good Thai food. It's my favorite flavor of cooking. I usually try the pad Thai because if a place can't do that right it's not good. This place does it right. Although I wasn't asked my spice level. When it arrived it was very flavorful. I asked for chili 3 scoops in and I was in heaven. Lunch came with chicken soup and pork spring roll and as a vegan she kindly let me know ahead of time as I ordered tofu pad Thai she was wise enough to assume correctly. Service was quick, kind and courteous. Food was hot fresh and worth the price. This place could use a face lift, good dusting and please hide the pest control calendar on the wall. My favorite Asian style restaurant here in Citrus County... You can't go wrong with Thai and the fried rice is far better than Chinese style fried rice. The lunch specials here are mostly under $10 and include a cup of soup, spring roll, main course and white rice (unless it's a noodle dish in which case rice is not served ). My comfort soup is their chicken noodle and they accommodate by giving it to me as the lunch soup choice. Pad Thai (with shrimp) is awesome and my favorite is the Garlic and Pepper chicken. The curries are all phenomenal. Delish! Spring roll is tasty and not greasy at all (fried). The clincher for us is the rare Coconut Rice which we order for dessert. It's under $3 and is fantastic...enough for two to split. I'd highly recommend this wonderful restaurant and the service is above par, too. Try it! read more

I am so glad I accepted and that my introduction to Thai was at Thai Phoon! I had Pad Ba Mee with shrimp and was delighted. The seasonings were perfect, the noodles weren't dry or mushy. The vegetables were crisp. The soup and spring roll served as an appetizer were delicious. I could have continued eating more soup and spring rolls and been happy they were so good. Amazing place. This is for all the fans out there of real thai food, by which I mean fans of fish sauce. It's a really good place that has all the normal thai options. They did make sure to ask us weather or not to use fish sauce so I'm sure they can cater that to vegetarians. Unlike a lot of other thai place I see now-a-days they have souls by cup instead of by bowls or just cups for lunch, which was great because it was only 4 dollars a bowl and we could each get what we wanted. I had the red curry and it was pretty good though not the best, though it has the good fishy taste of a good curry base that a lot of American thai places don't have. I had no problems with service like some other reviewers have had. Highly recommend the Tom Yum and Tom Kha, some of the best I've had in America. read more
