My wife and I opted for Thai Sawadee instead of Manee Thai and we couldn't be more happy. Ok, I lied, we could be more happy but I will let a lackluster performance by the staff slide based on the fan-fucking-tastic food we were served. Our meal was the following: two glasses of house wine. curry potstickers spicy basil beef ginger chicken The wine was quite nice but after receiving the bill I thought to myself, when the hell did house wine become 7.50 a glass? That little annoyance aside, on to the food. the pot stickers where fantastic, nice flavorful curry with perfectly cooked pot stickers. Served with some shaved carrots and cabbage to cool the heat from the curry, they were very nice. Spicy Basil Beef: Awesome flavor but not very spicy. I would get this again in a heartbeat but I would ask for more heat. Overall great tasting dish. Ginger Chicken: The hit of the night, great flavor, tons of vegetables, nice light sauce. This was a great dish and it is essentially the same as the vege thai but has shaved ginger and it makes all the difference. This is a great dish. I think this place is owned by the people who run Manee Thai but not 100% sure. We will be going back, even if the wait staff was semi clueless. read more

The truth is I've eaten in a lot of Thai restaurants. When I went to a new one last week that I had never been to the waiter and I recognized each other. He used to work at another restaurant! That's when you know you eat out A LOT! That said my dinner tonight at Thai Sawadee was excellent! I ordered the Khao Soi Kai Noodle Soup (Tender chicken, bean sprouts, red/ green onion, rich curry broth). I order this dish all over the place and this one was the best I've had. The predominant flavors in the broth are lime, curry, and coconut milk. It was spiced perfectly! The chicken was tender. I'm going to be thinking about this one for a while. Other orders at the table were Pad Thai and the Spicy All Veg and Tofu Soup. Everyone was thrilled with their dishes. This is definitely more expensive than your average Thai restaurant but the portion sizes were extremely generous and all the flavors were spot on. The staff is super friendly. I've been going here for almost 2 years now. I usually just get take out. The cashew beef is my hands down favorite. The pot stickers are very excellent too. The spicy peanut sauce is to die for (for the pot stickers). They have only messed up my order twice ever, and they gave me my next entree free. They realize they're not perfect, and always made it up to me when there was a mistake. They did bump their prices up a little bit. But it's still very reasonable for their Chesterfield location. My new favorite Thai Restaurant. Actually, it's been my favorite for a few years now, just never did a review on it.... Hard to find a bad dish really. And like most Thai places you can get various degrees of spicy to any dish. If you've never done Thai, I suggest a level 3 for your first time if you like spicy foods (1 is least spicy, 5 is most spicy). My favorite dish isn't a dish - but a drink - Thai tea. It is largely the one thing all Thai restaurants have, but few are as good as Thai Sawadee. I came here hesitantly as I have a couple local favorites and didn't want to be let down, however a few of my friends really love this place so we went and were not dissapointed in the least. I'd say Sawadee easily is on par with the best Thai food St. Louis has to offer, I can't say its better but its at least as good which is fantastic. We tried the green curry claypot and the curry chicken noodle soup, as well as the vegetarian spring rolls. The soup was just flat out awesome, very rich curry flavor, complex, and not lacking in spice whatsoever (I requested extra spicy and they delivered!). The claypot green curry was layered and just very satisfying. I was not a fan of the spring rolls in the least there was something very off about one of the ingredients however the rest of the table thought they were fine, I did enjoy their pot stickers with some sort of curry sauce. The prices are quite high for this type of food and atmosphere but I guess they give you pretty large portions as well, that will likely have you bringing some home for snack or lunch the next day if that eases the pain a little. read more

I ordered the vegetable fried rice. I was very impressed with how flavorful this fried rice was. Presented nicely, and certainly enough to take some home for another meal. One of my dining companions had pineapple shrimp in curry sauce (served in a hollowed out pineapple half) and was very pleased. Went back to thai sawadee again with my husband this time. We order their special dishes for valentine's week. Pad thai with lobster was heavenly . The lobster tail added the extra favor to the pad thai. Highly recommend for those who love seafood. The price isn't so bad neither for lobster. Most amazing food I've ever had.. not exaggerating that statement, the Pad Thai changed my life

We arrived at the Restaurant at 7:00pm and it was BOOKED. A lot of large parties were at the restaurant and we had a group of eight with us. The servers/waiters informed us that we will be seated shortly after one of the large parties leaves. They said it shouldn't be too long as they were finished and paid already. Ten minutes later, we were set up and ready to be seated. Even though the dining room is packed, our waiter attended to us at a very swift manner and had our drinks going in no time at all and soon we were already placing our starters. The chicken satays were grilled perfectly with no burnt spots and the peanut sauce that came with it were splendid. We also ordered the crispy rolls, nothing spectacular and the sauce was too sweet. We ordered the sawadee chicken, pad see ew, pad ki moa, pineapple fried rice, and pangang grouper (highly recommended by our waiter) for our entrees. We wanted to share everything and the waiter obliged and handed out extra plates to everyone. Everything was very flavorful and well presented. Especially the pineapple fried rice which was in a pineapple shell! The grouper was very crispy and the curry was just the right amount of spice. The experience overall was fantastic. I just wish they had a TV at the bar so customer could have watched the ball game. It was the Cardinals vs the Cubs that night! Full bar would have also been a plus. read more

I had the Pad Ki Mao spiced to level 3 out of 5. The beef was super tender and delicious. The noodles were firm and divine. All the veggies had some crunch left and were very tasty. It's hard to go to a restaurant that's a bit out of the way and order a dish that would likely bring you out there again. Case in point, Thai places. I already have my favorite Pad Thai / pad see euw / drunken noodle places that are plenty close by me. Would I come out here just to have pad thai? It'd better be the most amazing pad thai I've ever had! So instead I go with the grouper and panang curry. The wife gets the pad thai. The curry was excellent and the fish was nice, crispy, and moist that just soaked up the sauce. I think they could have gone with a cheaper fish and left it at a cheaper price like Pho Grand's tilapia in "special curry." I mean this thing was near 20 bucks, which is above Blue Elephant in Clayton levels. I really can't imagine that their rent is higher... The pad thai was just decent... and 14 bucks... Good thing I didn't get that or this review would have been even more critical. I do have to say that the service that day was excellent. I'm guess they're utilizing owner/worker child labor in full force as there were extremely attentive high schoolers (I really hope they were... I mean shit... the college kids I see in their fucking Maseratis at the Shady Szechuan Shack look like they're in middle school) ensuring waters were filled and tables were cleared. I figure they're about the only game in town so they'll be around for a while. Good food, not fantastic or out of this world, but fresh and very good. My wife and I started with Thai Fresh Spring Rolls and Jasmine tea, which were just ok. However, my wife really liked her Pad See Yu and I enjoyed the Thai Rama with tofu. We expected the dishes to be a bit spicier, but that didn't stop us from thoroughly enjoying them. The service was fine and the wait staff friendly and helpful. I mentioned that I am a vegetarian when ordering my entree to make sure there wasn't any fish oil in the peanut sauce and she was thoughtful enough to check if I wanted my spring roll sans fried egg. I ate here couple days ago and had nothing but good things to say until this last time. First off this place is very expensive and yes in general eating out is expensive but this place is ridiculous. The Tom Yum soup is usually great but this time it was full of very hard lemon grass and the mushrooms were not whole like normal. Usually get the Basil beef but tried the Nam Tok beef. It was so tough you couldn't chew it. The Sticky jasmine rice was so undercooked and dry you couldn't pull it apart. Definitely undercooked. Overall worst meal I've had here. This is by far the best Thai place I've found. The Pad Kee Mao is spectacular. This was actually the first place I've had Thai food and since then I've tried many others in search of my new obsession and none of them come close. I started cooking my own Thai food but I still can't make it taste as good. I just can't understand why their beef tastes so rich and delicious. Very poor service. The servers were not attentive. Comparing to other thai restaurants they are very expensive but one thing for sure the food was excellent. For me this is the best thai food place in st.louis. I had beef coconut curry with basil and steam rice. I asked for fried rice instead of the stem rice but server forgot my order and served me the stem rice.. I have loved this place in the past but today I was disappointed in both the food and the response to my phone call letting the Manager know that the fatty tuna was not fresh. This is the worst Thai restaurant I've ever been to in St. Louis. This is a noodle soup called HOMEMADE BEEF noodle soup in the menu. I went there three times for this dish within one week. The waiter told me it's sold out three times. I suggested them to change the menu, either to cross that dish out or change to Saturday only, because he told the chef only cook that beef on Saturdays and the beef will be sold out immediately.
