Really cute little place! Diagonal self parking in front, additional parking in back. Clean and quiet, pleasant server. BYOB! Appetizer order taken and promptly delivered to our table. Main course orders were then taken. We were not rushed at all! Food was very tasty, I enjoyed the Mussuman Curry. Restaurant was not crowded, but quite a few people came to pick up carry out orders. Came here on a Sunday night after craving Thai. The restaurant reeked of sewage when we walked in. The waitress was not very friendly. We ordered Tom Yum soup which was okay. The Pad Woon Sen was a very small portion, only taking up half the plate. The Spinach Noodles were whiteish yellow instead of green. We asked the waitress if it was the correct order and she assured us it was. They were very bland. The hallway to the bathroom is very cluttered with random items and did not feel clean. We went Friday at 5 pm. No one was in there but us. The lady sat us and gave us menus but didn't come back to the table for an extended amount of time even though she was just a few feet from us behind the counter watching a show on her phone loudly. Her loud show along with the Christmas music that wasn't all the way tuned in hurt my brain. She finally came to the table and we ordered shrimp shu mai. It came out burning hot in less than a minute. Red flag, as our usual place needs 20 minutes to steam them. We knew they were microwaved. We then just decided to order the chicken pad Thai so we could just eat fast and leave. It came out in just a couple of minutes. It was a small portion, didn't have a good color (orangish), and had literally no taste other than I had a kind of twangy like...is this rotten taste. The cook in the back wears hacking the whole time and was clear that he had a deep productive cough. I was so grossed out. We had a couple bites. I couldn't eat it. We left most of the food there. Another customer walked in for a take out order and said she needed to make a phone call in the car. The lady that worked at the restaurant told her to just make the call there. So that's what we heard...the bad Christmas music almost tuned in, the restaurant lady behind the counter's tv show, and now the customer in the small room talking in the phone. I came as the lunch rush was quieting down. It's a very nice place with a rustic Thai feel inside. I ordered the pad thai with tofu which came out with the noodles looking a bit pink, which was different from what I'm used to, but it was a fun switch up and the food was very tasty. I did notice my food was a bit more oily than I'm used to for pad thai and it was served with a lemon instead of a lime, but the price point was good and I appreciate the friendly service. read more

Great food and service. They had a super clean restroom. The server greeted us with a big smile. This is a traditional Thai restaurant and I forgot the names of the dishes we had but everything tasted really good especially the hot soups. I rarely have Thai food so this was a unique experience. They were such a friendly family running the place - unfortunately the food has no flavor. Got chicken pad Thai and beef pad see eiw and if you closed your eyes you wouldn't know the difference between the beef and the chicken. The pad Thai had a very faint flavor - and it was good but barely caught any bites that were flavorful. I honestly feel that they don't season their dishes authentically because of the neighborhood they are in people would probably complain because it's an area that likes very generic food. Much more meat and potatoes than authentic Thai food. Food was hot and looked good - just literally has no flavor. Also, don't bother with the crab Rangoon they were basically hollow. read more

Food was bland, watery and they were very skimpy in amount of meat and vegetables in dishes. Place was hit, musky and needed updating.

We love Thai Smile! The waiter, Mie, is the most friendly, hilarious, awesome guy ever. He is a major part of why we come here! Plus, the food is so yummy! We always get delicious spring rolls, and have tried a ton of the dishes--never to be disappointed. I love anything with green curry, and their fish dishes are amazing. I've come to this restaurant 3 times. The first time I went in and asked if I could get carryout. The waiter said "we don't do carryout here." I looked at him a little dumbfounded and asked, "you don't do carryout? I can't order food to take it home with me?" He said no. I left angry and irritated...of COURSE they do carryout! I think this may be the owners' son. The 2nd time I came in for lunch to try again, this time to sit down. I was served by the owner and cook and my pad see ewe and thai iced tea was delicious and flavorful. Service was great and I was happy. The 3rd and last time I went in for carryout, this time calling ahead. I was told 25 mins and got there after nearly 40 mins. When I told my name to the host, he looked and said there were no receipts with my name on it. He asked if I had another name? I replied, no I don't have another name! (???!!!) He found it finally and I was told it would be an additional 5 mins but waited another 15 before my order finally came. Got home and the food was just bland and disappointing. Not sure what happened, but there were small portions in the containers and the dishes we ordered--curry fried rice, crazy noodles, pad vegetables, and pad see ewe just didn't taste very fresh. Delicious Thai food. I went here for lunch three times in the two weeks I spent in Palos Heights. I got a different vegetarian dish each time I went, and was never disappointed. I got the Pad Thai the first time, the Eggplant Curry with rice the second time, and a spicy curry with rice the third time.The rice dishes seemed to give slightly less food than the pad thai, but still a great amount for one meal--noodle dishes also include enough food to eat the leftovers later. I also tried the fried tofu sticks and the fried dumplings, both of which were good, though I admit I like my home Thai place's better. Prices were reasonable. Service was sweet; our server had a rather reserved personality, but she was kind and helpful. Atmosphere was comfortable, and it wasn't very busy when we were there. This is such a cute little restaurant! Have come here several times with my boyfriend and enjoyed the food. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's quite the hidden gem. It's BYOB, so we have brought wine to make for a romantic dinner, but I have seen people bring in coolers of drinks for a more lax experience. Definitely recommend coming here to eat! read more

This is my FAVORITE thai restaurant. I will go to other thai restaurants and just sit and compare it to the taste and flavor of the Thai Smile. I have been going to this restaurant for over 10 years now. My entire family loves to go on the weekends. It has such a great atmosphere inside, it is cozy, sultry, and with BYOB you cant be beat. The service is great, the staff knows my family and pretty much knows what we will order. I constantly am a favorite of their Thai fried Spring Rolls, they are filled with tons of fresh vegetables and vermicelli and fried perfectly. I also have to say their sweet and sour sauce that is served alongside the rolls is PERFECT. I have yet to find one that competes. Topped with crushed peanuts it is bursting with flavor. I also am a fan of the Vietnamese Spring Rolls, they are similar to a summer roll. All fresh veggies and cilantro rolled in a wet rice wrapper. Served fresh every time. I have yet to have another fresh spring roll better. My favorite meal is the pad thai. I order it with tofu, which is always cooked to perfection. Never are the noodles are tofu greasy or slimy. The vegetables are always fresh and the noodles also taste like they were prepared just as you ordered and not just sitting around. I order all my dishes here med-hot. It is just enough hot for me, but for someone with a mild palate I would recommend keeping it mild-med. My omni family has tried many of the meat filled noodles and curries. And they have never had anything they didnt like. We all love this place and always look forward to our nights there. read more

The biggest obstacle in eating ethnic food is familiarity. If you aren't familiar with the cuisine, how can you make a true calculation. This may be the reason Thai Smile has a 4 star average. Ethnic restaurants also struggle with service, there seems to be a common cultural clash, maybe you don't get the check, or they don't take a drink order, whatever the problem is, I am usually expecting less than Western style service. A problem I don't think about much is the whacky customers who are afraid of a food because of its reputation. This poor restaurant is loaded with people asking "how spicy is medium" only to ignore the waiters advice and order fried fucking rice. I really tried to enjoy my food, but several customers, graduates from tweezer university, were so obnoxious in there waffling no one else could get a server. As the food goes, the Chicken dumplings were very bland, the spring roll sounded promising with a description including chinese sausage, but we found it to be very dry, it was also smothered in a sauce reminiscent of corn syrup. A tamarind sauce was served with the dumplings, but it was strange, not homogeneous, the tamarind was on the bottom, a sugary layer in the middle and oil on top, I had to really stir to get some of the tamarind mixed in. The main course was a green coconut curry that had a nice flavor, but lacked substance, a few pieces of promised vegetables would have added a star to this review. The other dish was a green curry stir fry, no coconut milk, it was substantial, but the heat level was incendiary, really no reason anything needs to be that hot. I eat here all the time, and I don't even live in Palos Heights. In my opinion this is a great place for some of the best Thai food in the suburbs. Service is always excellent, the food is delicious. Appetizers include not only traditional Thai fare; I love the spring rolls here. Atmosphere is very pleasant and relaxing. You cannot beat this place at this price. The one and two star reviews must have happened at a bad time because every time we've gone there, it never disappointed. Food is excellent all around. It's BYOB but there's a little convenience/liquor store right next door. How convenient is that. The pot stickers are utterly ridiculous. I tried the Pad Thai last week for the first time and although I'm not a huge fan, I wanted to try it and it was really really good. But my "go to" dish is the Basil chicken. Deeelicious. It's a pretty small place and if you go on a Saturday after 5:30 or so it may get crowded and the service may suffer a little because of it (every time we've gone, crowded or not, it's always only the one guy there) but the food is so good I'm not taking any stars away. read more

I have never had a problem with Thai Smile and I dont know much about Thai food! I would always go to this place when I worked across the street (Celtic Cottage/Wm. Simon Jewelers, GO IN!!) I absolutely always get their Chicken Satay (they're peanut sauce is out of this world) and their Pad Thai Tofu. It's a great place for a cheap meal and a huge plus that its BYOB. I was not looking to give this establishment a low rating but it is what it is. We arrived (party of two) during the noon lunch hour. Placed our order and literally waited around 45 minutes for both entrees to be brought out. We're not sure what took so long, if they were working on carry out orders perhaps or ? But that is not reasonable for a mid-week lunch hour dine experience. Ordered their Thai egg rolls and they had absolutely no flavor. I was hoping the side dipping sauce would make up for it but it was the equivalent of oil and nothing else. Zero flavor, really disappointing. Onto the 45 minute to arrive entree.. a Thai staple for an American audience - Beef Pad Thai. Not horrible but definitely not anything to bother mentioning to anyone or returning. I had the tofu rama noodle; they use thin noodles, the sauce was quite yummy smaller portions than typical thai places. I did like the way the tofu was cut, nice bit sized pieces that soaked up the sauce. We also had the beef salad, which was okay. BF had tofu panang curry which he said was okay. We shared an iced thai coffee that was very yummy. I might stop here again to try some other items as it's nearby but if I was really yearning for thai I would go elswhere. read more
