This was my first time at this restaurant, and I was pleasantly surprised. The only issue I had is the time it took between taking our order and the food reaching the table. Even though it was lunchtime we were one of the first people to the establishment. I ordered the trio chicken and it was fantastic. I've gave this place plenty of chances but I'm confident in saying you'll never get the same dish you got the last time you were here. I intended on being less direct with the review but I came here a few weeks ago and the food never is consistent. I got the cucumber salad and it was a bunch of lettuce with a little bit of cucumber. Always hit or miss. Hit or miss type of spot. First time at Thai spice it was amazing. Great food and service. Extremely busy for a small restaurant. 2nd time going the waitress forgot my appetizer, I reminded her and still didn't bring it out? Very confusing. 3rd time the pho was oily and more like a stew instead of a clear beautiful bowl of broth and noodle. If I go back it will be for the cucumber salad. read more

Perhaps it has to do with the location- being in a Midwestern town rather than a metropolitan city, but the dishes all lack the classic flavors and spice that a traditional Thai joint offers. The service is slow, but the staff friendly. The food is some fusion of Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese (all with a very Americanized twist). I've tried the crab rangoon (served with a sickening sweet sauce); sweet and sour/eggdrop mix soup of the day, Thai Basil fried rice, Panang Curry, Pho, spicy California rolls, and spicy tuna rolls. I specifically asked for additional items on my order over the phone, then double checked to make sure once I picked up. They assured it was in there (should have triple checked). Definitely some of the best food in the area. I love the curries and my husband gets the pad Thai every time. I've also tried most of the apps, the sushi, and the desserts - all delicious! Okay, I've eaten Thai in and around the KC area, and Thai Spice fits the bill for me. I've been several times and ordered several items off of their overwhelmingly large menu. The service is always prompt, friendly, and efficient. They are quick to recommend something to the unfamiliar (me!), and the recommendations are always spot on! Every dish is fresh, prepared in house, and uses ripe, FRESH ingredients. God it's good. My favorite dish is the Panana Curry with tofu. They bring out a lil condiment tray to help you make it as hot as you want, which is perfect for a hot-freak like me. Another dish you have to try is the mango sticky rice. My date didn't rant and rave quite as much as I did, but I cleared both my meal plate and dessert plate, and wanted MORE. Oh my god. The mango dessert rendered me speechless. Seriously folks, I don't get speechless; it was that good. The meal, mango dessert and tip topped me out at about $25, which is a lot for this poo' college student. I agree with Tiger, San Fran has the best Thai cuisine. But how stoked am I that I don't have to hike my ass down to Westport or Blue Springs to get really good Thai food anymore? Order the Thai iced tea. SERIOUSLY. It's the best I've ever had, has some sort of a smokey-like flavor and I'm always hacked that it's mostly ice and no free refills. They finally brought in a lunch menu that consists of everything on the dinner menu except it's 5 bucks cheaper and you get crab ragoon as a bonus (which are really good, they're light and crisp not thick and greasy like the Chinese). I always like to start with the spring rolls...they're good--standard--I would say. They use the sweet and sour vinaigrette for dipping opposed to the peanut sauce, which is what I like. But you didn't ask. I have tried all their curries and every single one is phenom. The yellow being my favorite; with potatoes, carrots, and Thai basil. Service is fast and friendly and the only request I ever have to make is 'more cilantro please'. And this place caters and delivers! Having just moved away from the most amazing Thai food in FL (cooked for charity, by little old Thai ladies, at a Buddhist temple), my standards are pretty high. This place hits close to the mark, and makes be miss home a little less My girlfriend and I came in maybe 30 mins before closing, intending to get take out so we didnt bother the servers. Instead, they insisted we stay, and that it was no big deal. Attentive service, and food that was spiced straight from Thailand. When you ask for Thai hot here, they give it to you. My gf had the sesame chicken, and I had a curry, both of which were good. The sesame chicken, though, was awesome. Crunchy, spicy, sweet, perfect. I almost ate all of hers instead of mine. I have visited Thai Spice on several occasions. The first time was fabulous! The second time, food was good, service not so much. The next visit, the wrong order was served, took incredibly long to have corrected, and the service was AWFUL! There aren't many Thai options around work, so the office crew decided to give carry out a whirl. We were told complimentary soup and appetizer are for dine in only, though their menu and website do not specify that. Fine, not a big deal..until they upcharged when we picked up without explaining. The difference wasn't a big deal, though their attitude was. The man told me I was arguing too much, which is why they gave the soup. Honestly, I couldn't care less about the damn soup! Yes, Thai Spice hovers on the bland side, I've seen that in the reviews and I agree. The decor somehow exactly what you'd expect if you'd been to a dozen other Lee's Summit restaurants, I'm not sure what it is about Lee's Summit and restaurant decor but they're all pretty much the same. BUT WAIT! I don't want to beat up on Thai Spice. As of today, I am the Yelp duke of Thai Spice, my girlfriend (the Lee's Summit resident responsible for me being in Lee's Summit to begin with) regularly threatens to introduce me as her boyfriend, the Duke of Thai Spice. The food is totally acceptable, we've never had a bad experience, and the closest Thai competitor is close to twenty minutes away in Blue Springs, OP, or Downtown. read more

I really hate to be this negative, but this was our honest experience. Appetizer: edamame: dry, lukewarm, not salty at all. It seemed almost raw. Not enjoyable. Sushi: tempura shrimp roll: most pieces didn't contain shrimp at all. Lots of imitation crab. Not impressed. Meal 1: honeymoon chicken: chicken was great, but it was swimming in sauce. I mean, swimming. Almost soupy. The rice wasn't cooked properly. It wasn't sticky, but instead crumbled and was not chopstick compatible. Veggies were sparse and very overcooked. The broccoli was almost yellow. To add, there were several small bones that had to be spit out. Meal 2: island garlic pork: Again, too much sauce. So much sauce that the batter soaked it up and ruined the "crunch" aspect. Chunks of batter were falling off and there were quite a few fat and cartilage pieces as well. Again, minimal/overcooked veggies. Taste was ok. Rice was too dry and ended up saturated in sauce. Sorry. It was just bad. read more

Previously had a love affair with this location, so this is not the rant of a disgruntled diner...rather a sorely disappointed regular who was looking forward to a midday treat. Not today. Instead after arriving after the lunch rush, I waited 10 minutes for the waitress to bring me water and take my order. Hot and sour soup was supposed to arrive shortly after; however, I had to approach the back booth (where all the young staff were sitting talking and texting) to ask if I was going to be served any time soon. Mind you, their kitchen closes at 2:30 and my soup (way thicker than usual, lukewarm and jelly-like) arrived with an apology at 2:35. I arrived for lunch at 2:08... wow, really? When I lived in Lee's Summit 3 years ago, I could eat lunch here in 30 min or less. Perhaps there is new management? Whatever the case, the happenings in the booth near the kitchen were much more important than serving the customers in the front. (Ken, where are you???) The food was good enough for a quick lunch, I guess. I found it all pretty bland. We got red curry pork, it smelled amazing, but then it was really pretty flavorless. And the fresh rolls were inedible, instead of a single rice paper wrapper it was covered with like 4 or 5 layers making it gummy and thick. The vermicelli inside was brown, and so was the lettuce. They were extremely unfresh. The crab rangoons are really sweet, my husband liked them, but I did not. The fish sauce to dip them in was really good though. And the fried egg rolls were good. Although they advertise Singha and Tsing Tao beers, they had neither, leaving us with an option of Bud, Bud Light, or Michelob Ultra, yuck! read more

Absolutely no understanding of acknowledging a customer when they have stood and sat in the lobby area for 10 minutes, they have a sign saying "please wait to be seated". Multiple open tables and the three servers just continue to walk on by with zero acknowledgement of the three of us. Finally we just got up and left, I made it a point to tell one server they should acknowledge people trying to patronize their business, she had no reply and I walked out. Simply terrible. read more

We decided to go here for dinner on Christmas night. What a treat!! First of all they brought us crab Rangoon on the house, because it was Christmas. There were 7 of us us so we ordered 2 of the appetizer sampler plates. With that you got crab Rangoon, spring rolls & egg rolls. Everyone enjoyed the spring rolls & egg rolls, the crab Rangoon was just so-so. Not our fav. I got the Thai cucumber salad, honestly, I would not get this again. My husband got the crab fried rice. He shared. yum!!! Incredible, I could have this every time!!! My daughter got the pad Thai w/shrimp hot, she loved it. My son had the chili chicken Thai hot, he loved it. Very spicy! It's in a strip mall, and the decor is less-than-inspiring, but if you live or work in the area, it's a great choice for Thai. By food alone (and if you don't care about the super pedestrian wine and beer list), it's just as good as anywhere else I've been. The pad thai is a great choice for the less adventurous, while the drunken noodles are also very good. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Thai curry, and both the red and green curries are excellent. I haven't noticed any blandness, but I always order my spice level at 'hot' (not 'Thai hot'). The crab rangoon is excellent as well. It's not fancy, but after several trips here, I have absolutely no complaints about the food. read more

I've never been a huge fan of Asian cuisine (too many veggies) but my fiancee loves it. She used to go to a Thai place in Wichita and hasn't had it since we moved to KC. A review for Thai Spice appeared recently and I took notice. Last night, I surprised her and took her here. The decor was very classy and upscale, but still casual. Nice classical piano playing on the overhead speakers. We were sat down immediately and ordered a couple of sodas. We ordered the Crab Rangoon and Tiger Cry Beef for appetizers. I don't eat crab rangoon, but I tried it, at the fiancee's behest. It was both meaty and sweet, which I'm not used to. I think they use real crab meat, not imitation. The Tiger Cry Beef was incredible! The sauce was quite spicy, but the meat was excellent even without the sauce. I ordered the Garlic and Pepper pork and she ordered the Pad Thai with chicken. The meat was delicious. I enjoyed my meal. My fiancee also enjoyed her pad thai. The service was friendly and quick. The food came out very quickly. Bill was a touch on the high end for us, as we prefer cheaper meals, but ordering 2 appetizers will ring you up a bit. We have no complaints about the place. Take a visit yourself. We will likely come back when we get the Thai craving. read more

By far, one of my favorite locations for Asian cuisine. Thai Spice sits inside of a strip mall and upon first glance you may not think much of it. I cannot begin to tell you that in this case, what you see is not what you get. It is easy to forget you are sitting in a strip mall. The service is phenomenal. The servers sneak in and ouy of your space with little detection. They are eager to make your experience go well. The Thai tea is outstanding...you must try it. The crab rangoon are light and flaky, a melt in your mouth experience that is tasty. My favorite dish is the spicy green bean with chicken. Stopped by this establishment on Mother's Day. We had a wonderful waiter and the food was okay. Unfortunately our entire experience was mediocre due to the rudeness of another employee who ignored our attempts to get her attention, had earbuds in while working, and overall had a sour attitude. We later learned she was the sous-chef's daughter, which according to the other employees, gives her the excuse to be rude to customers?.. It's too bad this ruined our outing, as I was really looking forward to finding a good Thai restaurant in LS. My husband and I went there for lunch today and arrived a little before 11:30 and the restaurant was almost full. We both ordered a chicken entrée. He ordered the Trio chicken and I had the Chili chicken. Both dishes were delicious and very filling. Even though the Chili chicken was advertised as being spicy, it was not. Our servings were huge and we both took home leftovers which will be visited later today. Table service started out great, but became increasingly slower as the restaurant filled up. Now, having written this, I have never seen wait staff move as fast as these ladies moved. Since this place is small, having more wait staff might be a possible bottleneck in the aisles and kitchen.
