Very impressed! Tried the salad rolls, oyster broccoli with beef, and pumpkin curry. The salad rolls were delicious, fresh, and had wonderful flavor (a little mint or basil, maybe?). The peanut sauce was amazing. Oyster broccoli was also delicious, plenty garlicky without being overbearing. The pumpkin curry was not the best I've had, but still very good. Perfect amount of spice. Recently went there for birthday dinner but the have made a few changes. The tv is now on another wall and they have put up a form of paneling with older metal advertisement signs. The food is still great but it now comes out in a serving bowl/plater with a plate for you to dish on. This maybe to encourage sharing, but I didn't know this so I got the usual amount of heat in my dish or I would of toned it down to share it read more

Well there use to be a friendly waiter to greet you take your order and continue the great service until you left. Not sure if this restaurant has changed hands which all signs are pointing that way but our service was to say the least very poor. Will not be going back. took my family 4 kids, 2 adults in last night for dinner, we had never been there and read the great reviews. While the food was good, the service was horrible. The lady that seated us didn't give us silverware or napkins. A different lady came by after 5 mins or so and asked if we wanted anything to drink and dropped off 3 menus. We finally ordered. They brought my youngest 3 kids food almost immediately, then about 10 mins later brought my food and my wifes food. My oldest daughter sat for about 15 minutes with no food. I saw other people that had come in after us being served so I stopped one of the ladies and asked about my daughters meal. She scurried off and a few moments late a different lady showed up with her meal and said it takes a long time to cook chicken (she ordered lemongrass chicken pad thai, apparently it takes 30-40 minutes to prepare, be warned). Since no one gave us napkins or silverware we just grabbed them off empty tables. The bill came and I left the exact amount in cash. Will never go to again. They seem to not understand what a restaurant is. read more

Extremely slow service and there was only 1 other table at the time. It took 15 minutes to order and over half hour to get drinks. So slow I cancelled my drink order. The waitress chose to bus a table in a non busy restaurant instead of take our order and get us our drinks. Food is good but not worth the slow service. Went here last weekend with my boyfriend, his mom and little sister and we all were ecstatic with the noodles, summer rolls, and sticky rice. Waiting time for food was okay, but the quality of the food was worth it! Everything tasted fresh and was amazing! I ordered my drunken noodles with chicken at medium spicy, but they were still pretty darn hot. Its okay though, because I still liked it! The place is decorated with blow ups of all different kinds of classic comic books. They range from Superman, to an Avengers wedding, to TMNT. So unique and artistic!! A little on the pricey side, but still affordable for the average minimum wage citizen. Desserts are lacking in variety, but sounded good on the menu, although I never tried them.... Excellent neighborhood Thai restaurant. I really enjoyed the spicy crispy basil chicken, which was indeed crispy--even the basil. The chicken pieces were slightly sweet. The summer rolls were stuffed with fat rice noodles and accompanied by a yummy warm peanut sauce. My partner's Pad Thai was not greasy, the chicken was tender and had a bit of a snap to it. This has become our favorite Thai restaurant in Portland... and we have tried many. The food is extremely fresh and flavorful and it is clear that they do not cut corners on quality. Some favorites of our entire multi-generational family- all 11 of us- are pumpkin curry with salmon, pad see ew, masaman curry and my personal favorite, the crab fried rice with brown rice. My daughter, who is visiting from CA said it was the best fried rice she'd ever tried. The fresh, minty salad rolls are also wonderful and the newly-added fried calamari are to die for. Best is the charming and solicitous manager/ server. He always seems to remember what we like and how we like it prepared. The atmosphere is cheery, clean and bright. I don't mean to write a review only to complain so I'll state that the dish with the fried basil leaves is so delicious. The couple times I've eaten there were great and the basil so memorable. Which is why tonight was so disappointing. The 2 servers were busy but we were so thoroughly ignored that my hungry (and hangry and therefore impatient) dinner friend walked out. But what gives? We had made eye contact and smiled with both. We didn't know we were supposed to seat ourselves until another customer said to go ahead, and then we sat there for about 5 minutes with no menu. I'd go back because i know the other servers had been friendly (and that crispy basil!) but i think my dinner buddy is soured on the experience. read more

Over more than a year of coming to Thai Square pretty frequently, I've been consistently very pleased with the food. They have some of the best pad see eu I've found in Portland--perfectly balanced between sweet and salty, moist without being oily, good ratio of noodles to vegetables, tofu, and egg--and whenever I've ventured beyond this comfort food default, I've been very happy, too. Lately, though, I've been less pleased to see the restaurant serving food in what, to me, seems like a weird assortment of pots and pans that have unnecessarily replaced a lineup of perfectly nice ceramic dishes. Thai Square, if you are reading, please go back to the serving dishes you used to use! The pots and pans are weird. Granted, I've seen small cast iron pans used for serving elsewhere in Portland, usually for eggs, and have been willing to accept/pretend that *maybe* my order was cooked in them, and that transferring the food would have caused some catastrophic loss of heat or texture... This seems different. It not add any benefit to transfer a noodle dish into a nonstick pan that it could not have plausibly been cooked in, and in fact it frequently detracts from the overall experience. The curries seem to be served in quite small saucepans now, which means that there isn't quite enough room to maneuver with a spoon. This development seems to have happened over the last month or two. I can only hope that, whatever made Thai Square think it was a good idea, the response since then will convince them to go back to the perfectly functional dishes that I don't think I'm alone in missing! read more

This used to be my go to Thai spot, but the last few visits the food has gotten worse - tasting like its pre-made in large batches, not fresh. My most recent visit was atrocious though. I ordered pad thai - mild, it ended up being so spicy i could barely eat it. What i did manage to eat gave me HORRID food poisoning. It was a nightmare. The food had gone way downhill, certainly not worth getting so sick over. There are plenty of other thai spots in town - do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!!! read more

There have been a stream of rotating restaurants in this location but I think that this one might be here to stay, at least I hope so! 4 stars for food, 2 stars for service. Flavors were very good! Wait was beyond excessive because of the number of take out orders. The restaurant ends up filling up with people practically in their pajamas waiting for take out while diners are completely neglected. They were apologetic, but didn't seem to be doing anything to manage the issue. read more

This is the best Thai restaurant in Sellwood, hands down! We go to Thai Square at least once a week given the great location and unbeatable food, service and prices. Thai Square has a lovely, quiet and unpretentious atmosphere, with great food, large portions and superb service. The gentleman that runs this restaurant is very nice and cares a lot about his business and making sure his customers have a great experience. The food is simple and fresh (your typical thai dishes) with really fresh vegetables and tasty sauces that don't leave you feeling bogged down, all for a great price. I was absolutely pleased with how great the service was. The food was excellent. I got pad Thai. I asked for it a tiny bit spicy with added lime. It came out perfect and the portion was very large for $7.50. I was extremely pleased because I'm pregnant and I had a craving for pad Thai I tried another Thai restaurant in West Lynn and I couldn't even eat it! I was sorely disappointed it didn't even taste like pad Thai at all and the portion was tiny. so I was extremely happy when I found this place online. I called my order in. They were extremely friendly, the place is clean and well decorated and I couldn't believe the depth of flavor they were able to get into the pad Thai. it's a very familiar dish to me but the quality of the ingredients and something about it was just great. Absolute favorite thai place in East Portland. Food is fresh, clean, and delicious. It's reasonably priced, the staff is super friendly, food is made to order quickly, and I have never been disappointed! Been eating here since they opened sometime last year. Well, we have been patrons at this restaurant throughout its many incarnations as Thai cuisine, but, wow, must say Thai Square has made a big hit! The current owner has taken great pains to make a comfortable atmosphere, and, in my opinion, has items on the menu that rival Pok Pok, ( at very reasonable prices). The Summer Rolls, (vegan), are consistently fresh, well crafted, and come with an ample serving of warm, delicious peanut sauce. An excellent selection of curries, including pumpkin based, as well as avocado based, seasoned with finesse, and nicely presented. Several salmon dishes are among our favorites, including spicy salmon with green beans ... soups satisfy, and, their Thai BBQ Chicken accompanied by a tamarind dipping sauce is a knock out! read more

The food and service here are great. Super friendly and remembered my name after one time of coming here. The 8yrs I've been in sellwood its been 3 different Thai restaraunts and this is by far the best. It's actually my new favorite spot to eat. I've been trying all the food on the menu 1 by 1 going down the list and I have no complaints. You can't go wrong with any of the curry's The Thai iced tea's here are super good and big so you don't drink them in one sip. I went there for the first time and had the Tom Yum Soup, which was absolutely delicious! I have had this soup in other places, but I have to say that the soup at the Thai Square exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere is quite unique, the owners had done a great job with the eclectic decor, creating a welcoming and soothing atmosphere that combined with the friendliness of the servers make this place a must go in Portland. The yakisoba noodles that my kids ordered were excellent, the fresh vegetables were cooked to perfection with a nice grilled flavor that you could savor in every bite. I am excited that this place is near to where I live and I am looking forward going there again to try other dishes. read more
