A few days ago we ordered pick up and I wanted to wait a few days before putting in a review. We live close to the restaurant and have only been here a few times in the 3 years we've lived in Sellwood. Every time (except once) I've had to wait between 25 and 45 minutes for my food to be ready from when we're told. I arrive at the time the restaurant gives me and I'm told that it's being put together and should be another 5 minutes. They ring me up and I put in my tip of 20%, then I wait and wait. I ask about when it's coming out "almost there, just another minute". Wait and wait. Others are standing around in the same situation. I would like more honesty and integrity from the establishments I spend money at especially right now. The food is good, but so are the other Thai restaurants in Sellwood and the food is ready when they say it will be. I'm disappointed. I will continue to spend my money at local establishments, but not here. read more

When my daughter tried to order her food She was told to wait until they come and approach her in a rude way. when she finally got her food it wasn't exactly what she wanted and a bit salty, but she was afraid to approach the waitress and just left it alone. I ordered lemongrass chicken and got chicken pieces, marinated with peanut sauce instead, a bowl of cold rice and cold broccoli next to it . I was sure my ordered was confused with someone else meal And when I asked the waitress, if this was lemongrass chicken, she blew me off, and simply read me the menu . Disappointed. We've been ordering from Thai Square regularly since 2013. Tonight was our first time ordering under the new ownership. The other recent reviews are correct. The portions are significantly smaller. The food is sadly bland and the noodles mainly tasted oily. Very little to almost no flavor. Way too expensive for what you're getting. You're better off waiting for Jade or checking out King Curry nearby in Milwaukie. We won't be returning, which is sad because we're just a couple blocks away and loved having great Thai so close by. read more

We used to get dinner here 1x a week. Now they do not answer their phone. They stop taking orders within an hour when they are supposed to be open. Last straw was tonight: Website shows open @ 430-830. 430 I start calling keeps ringing & ringing then hangs up. While on the phone I try online ordering, delivery sounds great. Fill in all the forms at 442, order goes through yippy. Card goes through yippy. Delivery time 544. Text my husband dinner will be here. 521, I get 2 texts from delivery service. Your order has been cancelled. The message is that the restaurant is closed. It took 40 mins for the delivery service to say the order was cancelled. Monday, I got as far as placing a pickup online order when a Message said they were not taking any more online orders. 2 stars is because of the past experiences when we could get food. More stars and people might take the review as positive. read more

I love having so many Thai options in my neighborhood. That being said, I have so many Thai options. The ambiance in there is really fun and inviting and the staff is nice. We got Khao Soi which was flavorful and served in a beautiful dish. We don't find this dish in too many places so we always get it. We also ordered the Pad Kee Mao, this is where it fell flat quick. The dish itself was fine, it was the protein that was the issue. We ordered tofu but it was burned...to the point that it was black. So we couldn't get the burned taste out of our mouth for awhile. It was a busy night and we never send food back so we continued to eat it. I want to give this place another chance since our other dish was good, but again with 3 other Thai places in the neighborhood, I'm unsure if I'll be back soon. read more

I think they have really stepped up their game! I have gone here in the past and decided it wasnt really my thing. But they have recently (not sure how recent) re did their place with more of a Portland vibe, and their food is a lot better as well! Pad Thai is always a good feel for how a place is, and its gotten a lot better. I tried their Lunch Specials, pumpkin Curry, since it was a little cheaper than my normal place. I was very satisfied with my decision! Its a smaller portion, unfortunately, but still packed with flavor! I asked for it to not be spicy, and spices are a base for currys so there is always a little spice, but this actually didnt have any spicy kick to it! THANK YOUUU!! My Wife and I received a tip about great Thai Food at Thai Square near her work. So we went on a lunch date. We found Street Parking out front and went in.... To.... A Comic Book Store? No. We found Thai Square. Looks like a lot of Thai Restaurants on the outside but inside was Comicon. After being seated and our order taken. We took in the very busy decor. Wall to wall decor. Comic Books. Toys. Stuff. Luckily our food distracted us from getting lost looking at stuff. My Wife had Pad Thai. It was delicious. Lots of noodles. It was suggested that I try the Spicy Beef Noodle soup. So I did.... Flavorful. Very much. Nice broth. Full of Beef and Noodles. Oh ya. Spicy. A little. As in Very Little. When the 1st. word of the description is Spicy. It should be! I still ate every bit. Every bite not very spicy but good. My Wife's medium hot pad thai was way more hot than my spicy soup. We still enjoyed our lunch date even after the bill came. It was a tad expensive for what we ordered but someone needs to pay for all that decor. Would I come back? If I had a choice. Biggest waste of money ever. The taste is okay but the portions you get are a complete joke. Barely enough food for a small child and costs way too much for the small portions you get. I got the roasted duck noodle. About 5 slices of duck mostly fat, virtually no meat. On top of a small portion of egg noodles and drowned in some processed duck sauce. I went back for the 2nd time today for lunch. I had the Lime Chicken Pad Thai again because it was so good on my first visit. The best Pad Thai I've had in Portland so far, The menu is amazing and offers so many choices. The service and the food delivery can be slow but more than worth the wait imo. This is a really good little restaurant. New owner, very good hosting, the quality of the dishes is excellent, fresh, tasty. The sauces are really good. Their peanut sauce for the salad rolls, for example, the best ever. We brought back several customers on Thursday (so 2 multipled by 4 = 8). The restaurant is a couple of blocks from all the other little shops, coffee places & restaurants. The atmosphere is cozy and happy with the bright yellow walls, the seating is comfortable. 24July19 @ 11:45am Nice inviting place with about 20 tables and lots of movie and comic book posters on the walls. The menu is made to look kind of like a comic book. We were the only ones there at first but as we ordered and ate more people arrived. Quick friendly service. We had the basil stir fry with beef and the peanut curry with beef. The food came out within 10 minutes. The medium spice of the stir fry was just right with a nice slow mouth burn that travelled to the nose. The veggies and beef both had nice taste and texture. The beef may have been slightly over cooked. The peanut curry had nice peanut flavors and a mild heat with tasty large chunks of carrot and other veggies. There was plenty of beef in both dishes and the rice was cooked correctly and had good texture. We enjoyed the meal. read more

I patronized Thai Square for years before their recent change of ownership. Unfortunately, the new owners have a ways to go to meet the standards of the former ones. I recently ordered pad prik king for takeout, as I had done many times from the former owners. When I got home, I discovered that the dish had no rice, despite the online menu saying it was included and it always being included before. Had basil fried rice w tofu. It was very light on the veggies and very heavy on the oil, about as oily as you ever get with fried rice. Sure does vary from place to place, and I def prefer less oil. Easily my favorite Thai food in town, love this place. The food is fantastic and the service is top notch. The decorum is unique and reflects the great personality of the owners. Your kids will also enjoy the art on the wall as well, plenty to talk about and a feast for the eyes to enjoy prior to the one your tummy will. The food has always been cooked fresh and to perfection every time I have been here, I really have no complaints. I absolutely love this place. We've been coming here since it opened and I've never ever been disappointed. They have vegan, vegetarian, meat and seafood. They can prepare any curry to your spiciness preference. They also have brown rice! I love their green and red curries. The basil is so fresh!! The bamboo and eggplant... I could go on and on. They have beer and wine and some good choices too. They recently changed their decor and music and it's fantastic. I'm not sure what they're going for with a mix of ikea and Thailand inspired furniture. They play music videos on the wall and have again a mix of Thailand inspired decorations and comic book artwork. Whatever they're going for, it's my type of place. Service is fantastic! Quick and the food is just as quick to come out. The owner is usually there and doesn't even need to write down your order most of the time. Ok.... I'm not there and now I want to be. I know that Portland has an endless supply of Thai spots, but if you're in Sellwood, stop here. You won't be disappointed. read more

Ordered takeout through Postmates and definitely will again. Many reviews mention a specific vegan menu but unfortunately this isn't listed on the delivery apps. I did try to call the restaurant to ask about it but was unable to get through on a Saturday evening. I took my chances and ordered through the app making special note of a few items that I was requesting to be made vegan and was happy to see that they read all of my notes and wrote "vegan" on the boxes (indicating that they had read my notes). Vegan pad Thai was great with no missing flavor (as often happens at other places with fish sauce is omitted). The Chicken kao soi was a bit gingery for my boyfriend's taste, but he was happy to find it on the menu. Hoping to try some of the other vegan items soon! read more

Just tried a new Thai place here. Its pretty open seating. There is not a lot of space where you are not out in the open and visible and others are able to jear your conversations. Seems to be a good date night spot as most of the customers were just that dates. Tables for two. The menus are unique to say the least. Giant full of stories and descriptions of where the restaurant has its roots and how the food is made. A pretty interesting read although not expected from a restaurant. The food listings are a wide variety. Some typical like your noodle dishes and rice dishes. All meats available and vegetarian options. There are also some more exotic options Duck for example. What used to be a staple on Asian menus seems to have disappeared. The meals we had were delicious served family style in large portions with Rice. We ordered medium spicy and they nailed it. Not too spicy but not so mild that you dont know youre eating Thai food. The distinquishing thing about this place is its still a restaurant. You sit down someone takes yoir order and brings you your food. Could be a new neighborhood favorite. read more

Craving a bit of spicy Thai food I conducted a quick search on Yelp! I pulled up to a cute brick building in Sellwood - pretty ordinary facade but so darling inside. The walls are decorated with old novel posters of comicbooks, 50s glam, cigarette and soda ads. At entry it is welcoming but it seems a bit congested or crowded with the layout. Hard to describe fully. It was colorful and the host was friendly. I reviewed the menu and picked a Red Curry dish - beef, bamboo shoots, bell pepper, and eggplant. I asked for Spicy. She asked "how spicy" I said "Very?" I sat with a bit of water for only a few minutes and they brought my dinner out. $13 - She asked again, "you like hot? huh?" I said "Yes." then as I left I thought, oh shit, I hope it's not super scalding. It was darn near perfect. I thought the portion was satisfying. It had great flavor and a good amount of spicy. It could have been spicier but I was happy with my choice. Dining in looked inviting, too. I saw a couple folks inside and some wine being served. They have a big menu. We recently stayed in the Sellwood near Johnson Creek Park and made it to Thai Square twice for dinner. The décor is all about the comic book--simply Marvelous. The menus were apparently outdated though, since many of the dishes we asked for first were unavailable. We sampled the Pad See Ew, Green Papaya Salad, Green Curry, Pad Thai. But they do have some items not commonly seen in pedestrian Thai restaurants--zesty Laotian-style papaya salads with fermented fish or pickled crab; fried silkworms, and such like. All the dishes we sampled tasted delicious and freshly prepared. We weren't in a rush, which was good. We went on a Sunday and a Tuesday evening and the place was doing a good business, with lots of local regulars. Interestingly, in both cases our bill was exactly $73 for four people, although we ordered completely different meals--dessert the first night and no dessert the second. Our server Sunday was clearly a veteran with the restaurant and very knowledgable about all menu items and current status; Tuesday's server was a newbie and unfamiliar with many items (she said she tried to stay out of the kitchen so didn't know much). When we ordered beer and cider, she simply said, 'I can't serve alcohol; I'm not old enough,' but we had to press her a bit to get another serve to help quench our thirst. She was super nice and we hope she spends a bit of time with the menu and in the kitchen! Great place; we'll go back next time we're in the neighborhood to see what they're out of! 8^) read more

I experienced Thai iced green tea for the first time here, and I loved it. A bunch of people from my work and I come here often. The food is really good. I have had their curries, pad thai and drunken noodles. I have never been disappointed with the food or service here. The ambiance is kinda cool too, there are posters of the comic covers and a big board of singha beer. I highly recommend this place!
