Poor Food, summer rolls were tiny and lacked flavor, pad see ew was dry and beef was cheap quality...terrible experience with this place.

My family and I were staying at a hotel nearby because we were flying out of LAX the next day and thought some Thai food would make a great last meal in the area. Unfortunately, our experience was very sub-par. We had 5 people at our table and we each got a soup, 3 tom yums and 2 tom khas. We also got the papaya salad and for entrees, ordered the spicy fried rice, red devil noodles, another noodle dish, pad thai, and a green curry (which we didn't even end up getting to try-read on). The food was honestly just OK. The standouts would probably have to be the papaya salad and the red devil noodles. My pad thai was so cloyingly sweet I could barely finish half. Now for the service, it went from OK to bad. First off, the waitresses were extremely hard to flag down and from the get-go had forgotten our beer orders until I was finally able to get one's attention and tell her we were missing our drinks. Next, our tom yum soups came out first but the tom kha soups didn't come out until like 10 minutes later. Ummmm, what? Isn't the first rule of restaurant management to make sure the food comes out in well-timed intervals? That basically meant half our table was drinking the soup while the other half just...waited. That wasn't even the worst part. The same thing happened for our entrees. 4 of our 5 entrees made it to our table (staggered) while my dad's green curry was nowhere to be found (funny thing bc his rice, which was extra $, got there when we got our entrees). So poor dad is just sitting there for 20 minutes with a bowl of now cold rice with no green curry. I got so mad I just canceled the green curry and my dad ended up sharing our other entrees. Like what?!?! Please get it together and make sure everyone gets their food at the same time. I really didn't think of all things, such a basic expectation was what made this such a bad dining experience. read more

My family and I have been ordering Thai Talay for years. I just had the green curry with chicken, with a side of white rice and an order of Tom yom soup with shrimp and it was delicious! The soup had a lot of shrimp, mushrooms and green onions in it which was really nice. The broth was a mildly spicy Tom yom broth. The small order was a lot of soup! The green curry was delicious and there was so much I couldn't finish. Lots of chicken bell peppers, basil, peas, carrots, bamboo shoots soaked in a mouth-watering green curry sauce. I will continue ordering from Thai Talay and highly recommend it. read more

Thai Talay had been our regular Thai place for a while. We thought that the food was good and presentation nice. We also liked the location and its modern decor and cleanliness. Unfortunately, we were less than impressed with their food last time we dined there. The appetizer Calamari plate- had more fried vegetable (some sort of potato?) than calamari. The blue crab salad- just ok. Thai fried rice- not sure what made it "Thai" fried rice..very bland with very little meat. I think that the quality of their food has gone down. I'd rather have gone to the Taco Bell across the street. And ordered plastic bags to eat. The restaurant was at a quarter capacity, but we waited ten minutes before anyone payed attention to us, despite having been seated by a hostess who clearly could see us. We had to waive someone down finally to get any service. And that is when we experienced the one positive: the food arrived quickly after we ordered it. Which may have led to the fiasco of a dinner they gave us. I have never had bad pad thai until this place. It may just have been more chewy than rubber show laces. It was horrible. Just horrible. The pepper beef was dry, tasteless, and well...horrible. Maybe all these other reviewers had everything but the things we did, but I will never go back to try anything else. Used to work nearby and have probably eaten here 50+ times. Food is fantastic, staff is friendly and prices are decent, especially at lunch. They are also great for delivery if you live in the area - we live in the Marina and they deliver shockingly quickly - I'm sometimes amazed they could even cook the food that fast. My typical go-to is the Spicy Basil with chicken, or if you're there at lunchtime, the hai nam chicken lunch special with the ginger rice is fantastic (it's a bummer it's only a lunch dish as I no longer work nearby). The red devil noodle and prik king are my other favorites, though honestly I've yet to have something on the menu I don't like. This place is really cute and delicious. Small, quiet, calm atmosphere- perfect for a date. Pad Thai was delicious and the RedDevil Noodle (or something like that) was really good too. You can spend a lot or a little, and the portions are good. I took half I mine home, my husband (who eats like a whale) ate all of his. Service is great, very friendly. Only two servers (I think?) when in was there on a weeknight. Didn't make a difference; they did great, and I didn't have to wait a long time, but I am not hard to please. I have ordered Thai Talay likely over 75 times over the years. I always order the same things. Yellow Curry, Pad se you with chicken and fried shrimp app. They are 90% consistently good. About 1 in 10 times the yellow curry is missing an ingredient that makes or breaks the dish. I cannot tell you what that ingredient is other than it gives the yellow curry a slight reddish tone. I know when I open up the curry and see that color that the curry will be really good. When it is missing, the curry has a flat yellow color. All in all this is my favorite Thai place. read more

While visiting a good friend of mine in Playa Vista, she recommended we try Thai Talay for lunch. I'd say that while the food was okay, the issue had to do more with the experience with the service which felt a bit rushed,unfriendly and unwelcoming! I can understand being busy but my advice would be to personalize the experience for every guest with a genuine smile and always remember that guest perception is key! I don't think the quality or quantity of the food is worth the price. It's just okay, not great.

I enjoyed my chicken pho, however, it is not like traditional pho, in that the broth is slightly different and they give you plum sauce instead of hoisan sauce for dipping. The shrimp spring rolls were yummy, but the sauce wasn't a creamy peanut sauce, rather a sweet fish sauce, which was surprisingly good. I would order from here again. read more

Went there for quite a few times with my co-workers as it is close to our office. I like their curries and their pad thay was excellent. Peach margarita was great, mojito was ok. Love this place. Whether we're stopping in for lunch or taking it to go, the food is always so good. The staff is honestly so lovely and patient (I have a toddler who gets quite excited at restaurants). We've probably tried just about everything on the menu by now and the only option I didn't care for was the orange chicken (but my toddler loved it! ). Personally, Thai Talay is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the Southbay. Great food and great service. Bank (owner) and his staff make you feel right at home. I recommend the Pad See Ew, Yellow Curry Chicken with white rice and the Drunken Noodles. Those three are definitely my favorite. I got takeout from here. Two sets of Pad Thai. Asked one to be spicy and the other not. They both tasted burnt. The spicy one especially was bad. Imagine dry and extra fried noodles with dry spice on it. The spice definitely wasn't cooked into the food. Tasted like cardboard. Heavily disappointed. Order takeout here all the time. The parang and red devil noodles are great. And the coconut ice cream is seriously the best I've ever had.

I guess you're a fan if you go to a place twice in 5 days. The staff is friendly, the food is very good, they have lunch specials that will easily fill you up and you won't feel like a blimp. Oh and the presentation is excellent! What more could you want? Your own parking place? If you park in the back like I do you'll feel like a big shot when you come in.
