    Spicy Tofu Bowl

It feels more like being in a gas station than being in a Thai restaurant, but there's clearly some quality in the food. A few vegan options are available, and my spicy tofu was definitely spicy but also had the crunch of some fresh vegetables. A lime tea on the side was definitely not tea with a hint of lime; it was a ton of lime but this made for an interesting flavor experience. They also had a food truck, though I suspect it won't see much action during the winter months. They were closing up for the holidays when I visited, and a lot of locals seemed to be rushing in to get a taste before they did.

This is a local mom and pop shop that just hits the homey feeling spot! Went with a group of about 10 on a Saturday around 5:00 pm and were served rather quickly! Also, we were checked on multiple times to ensure we were having a good time and enjoyed the food. A friend and I shared the: Panag curry w/chicken: 10/10 would get again Spicy pork bowl w/ a jalepeno cilantro cream: 10/10 would get again Thai Tea was also solid With tip, 2 bowls, and drinks with plenty to go were under $40 They also have Pad Thai Fridays, a rotating menu, and something for everyone(including vegetarians) Don't let it being connected to a gas station fool you, it is 1000% worth going and Brian the owner is literally the sweetest and most hospitable person I have ever met! 11/10 will be back again!

The staff is fast friendly and courteous. They made suggestions and knew the food. The place is a hole in the wall attached to a gas station convenience store but don't let that fool ya. The food was excellent. I had the spicy pork rice and my husband had the pad Thai both were delicious and a good sized portion for the price. The menu changes with the season. They don't serve their soups during the summer months.

Delicious! I was a little skeptical about this place being connected to a gas station but it is a delightful little restaurant. Staff was super friendly and they let us try dishes before ordering. Everything was made fresh while we waited. My husband and I had the curry with tofu and rice and our son had the cashew chicken. Everything was delicious. They also have boba and Thai coffee!! We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

Don't be fooled by the attachment to the gas station. This place is tasty fast food Thai. The staff is super friendly and let us sample several options. Each dish perfect for lunch potions. Has both indoor and covered outdoor patio seating. Great for a fall afternoon. Will definitely be back!

Good service . Sample before you eat. Pad Thai was tasty and Thai hot level was yum. Quantity of the food was good. Spring roll was good too and big. Gas station location is kinda brings in lot of traffic.

My sister and I were in town for a business trip and came across this gem! The owner is so kind and welcoming. We ordered the curry rice bowl, beef salad, and basil chicken bowl. It was all so delicious! I highly recommend this place!

I absolutely adore this place! I've been to their food truck a couple times and decided to head down to their restaurant to pick up something to eat. Even though it's attached to a gas station, it doesn't change how amazing the food is. Everything I've had on their menu has been phenomenal. We got there about half and hour before close and they were out of several items but the owner apologized and tried to help accommodate the food for us to give us something delicious before closing! The owners are so amazingly nice and he made us feel like we were regulars to their restaurant even when it was our first time at the location! Being from a Thai background myself, I'd say I have a good idea of Thai flavors and they definitely nail it in every dish! Would recommend their food truck if it's nearby or to venture out and visit this amazing restaurant and their staff!

I did go with a friend and we were very impressed. So much so that I gave it a 5 Star review. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review. So today, I invited my friend who had invited me last year to go with me to give this restaurant another try, because consistency is what gives a restaurant its success, and helps develop its good reputation. We arrived and the small, clean, and cozy restaurant was still there, under a beautiful blue sky with white clouds. Outside in the small porch it had two tables with chairs for people who preferred eating outdoors on a nice Summer day. It was a hot day so we decided to eat indoors under the comfort of the air-condition. As soon as we walked inside a young lady warmly greeted and welcomed us and took us to our table. Soon after we reviewed the already familiar menu we both ordered a glass of iced water to drink. On a hot day there is nothing like a glass of nice cold water to quench the thirst. To eat we both also ordered the Pork Pad Thai. This traditional Thai dish had rice noodles, eggs, bean sprouts, green onions, and pork, with peanut and lime on the side.we both didn't want it too spicy hot so we asked for a #2 spicyness. Not long afterwards our dishes arrived. The presentation was simple, yet clean and appetizing. Everything looked so fresh and appetizing. And tasted amazing. Our server came by to check on us with a smile to see if everything was to our satisfaction and we told her it was. Everything so far was far exceeding our highest expectation. The food was so savory and the pieces of pork were so lean and fresh. I also loved the feel of the rice noodles and the taste of the grind peanuts. Even though the dining room was small, it didn't take long for itn to get full while we were eating, and we saw other customers come in to pick up Takeout orders. A lot of the seemed like repeat customers. It seemed like this small family-owned and run restaurant was getting the right attention and had become successful mostly through word of mouth, ju DrWe were very happy to see this. For dessert we both ordered the Coconut Ice-cream with Fried Bananas. It was wonderful. In conclusion I gave another 5 Stars to this restaurant and I highly recommend it to all those who enjoy Thai food or would like to try it. You'll be glad you did.

I ate here all the time in college, and years later I still haven't found Thai food that hits quite the same. The ambiance is great, not too formal but still great for a date night. The food is consistently amazing. You really can't go wrong, but my personal favorites are the pad thai, panang curry, drunken noodles, and the fried rice. Everything is flavorful, comforting, and exactly what you want after a long day exploring or reminiscing in town. What makes this place even more special is the staff. They are unbelievably kind and welcoming whether you're there every week like I was during college or just stopping in every few years like I do now. They have also always been incredibly accommodating with my mushroom allergy, which I really appreciate. The fact that they even remembered me years later honestly says everything about the level of care here. The service was good, and since we arrived around 4 PM, the restaurant was very quiet and not crowded. However, the food fell short of expectations, and unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to recommend this restaurant based on my experience. We started with the dumplings, which were gummy and not properly seared. The texture was unpleasant, and after trying one, I couldn't continue eating them. For my main course, the vegetables had an unusual flavor, and the noodles were heavily drenched in oil, making the dish difficult to enjoy. I wasn't able to finish it. My partner ordered the duck (no photo available), and while the presentation was nice, he found the texture overly chewy. He ended up pouring extra sauce over the dish just to finish it. On a positive note, both the Thai tea and Thai green tea were very enjoyable. We even ordered refills, which are offered at half price--a nice touch and probably the highlight of our visit. Overall, while the service, ambiance, and beverages were good, the food quality did not meet our expectations.

The idiosyncrasies do not stop with the name. Inside, The Rustic Barn offers an intimate space with low lighting and some interesting décor: random photos of locomotives adorn the wall. The menu skews Thai albeit with some Japanese dishes (gyoza, teriyaki, yaki udon) and a few (a burger, a steak and potatoes) that fit the establishment's rurally suggestive name. The proprietor, Jeb, is gracious and accommodating as well as a showman who likes to joke with his guests. His promise of "everything fresh, everything homemade" is a lot to live up to, but the kitchen here has the chops to deliver on that promise. Our group went with a pair of starters (crab rangoons and gyoza), a pair of curries (roadhouse and green), and a pair of noodle dishes (yaki udon and pad Thai). Everything was attractively plated and delicious. The rangoons were hand-formed into delicate shapes and contained plenty of filling while the gyoza were nice and crisp. My entrée was the roadhouse curry: the house version of Massaman. A hearty dish, it boasted thick-cut vegetables and a rich sauce done to the desired (a little bit spicy) level of heat. Prices are moderate (entrees start in the upper teens), but portions are plenty filling. Given how many Danville restaurants were closed on a Sunday evening, I count myself lucky that The Rustic Barn was not among them. If you come here seeking country cooking, you'll be confused and perhaps disappointed. But if you know what you're getting yourself into, the combination of personable service and tasty food in an offbeat location makes this the epitome of a hidden gem.
