This is the best Thai food around VCU. I always go in during lunch because then you get a free little appetizer. Its cheaper and they give more food than Elephant Thai. Ya'll, do NOT get their Massaman chicken curry. Generally I love Thai Top Ten and have been coming for years. But when I ordered this curry I got bone shard after bone shard stuck in my throat. About 6 shards deep and I finally worked up the courage to say something. I was simply told the recipe is supposed to have bones because it has a whole chicken in it. Now to my assumption a whole chicken should mean whole chicken bones, not shards that you choke on. Either way, looks like I'll be sticking to Mom's Siam from now on. Decent Thai place, large space with sparse decorations. You can order your dishes mild, medium, American spicy and Thai spicy. We got papaya salad American spicy which was good the first few bites and got too spicy to finish. I ordered green curry medium which consisted mostly of meat and a few pieces of vegetables. Maybe it was because of the residual spice from the salad, but the medium curry still had a bit of long lasting spiciness. My friend got a pho which was ok, soup not worth finishing. We ordered the drunken noodle with beef, pad thai with shrimp and the lemon grass with chicken rice dish all medium spiciness. The food was delicious! I really liked their drunken noodle, the sauce wasn't too thick and the noodles weren't over cooked and soggy.The portions were a decent size just a tad pricey though. I saw that they also had Pho here but I knew better than to order it because it's a THAI restaurant, if you're looking for Pho, go to a Vietnamese restaurant. read more

I tried the Pork Red Curry Fried Rice for my main dish. It didn't look like much but it had a great flavor. not enough veggies (but too many onions) for me. I asked for medium (heeding warnings on yelp and posted in the restaurant) and it wasn't spicy at all. I'll have to hook up the leftovers with some spice, or not. Portion size is generous. The Tod Mun appetizer came out soggy and lacking. The diced cucumber and peanut sweet and sour sauce as a dipping sauce was refreshing though. This place is on campus, offers free delivery and my favorite kind of food. It is convenient and consistent, with more options than Elephant Thai. Despite this, I consider Top Ten the lesser of the 2. Top Ten seems to spice all their dishes the same way, which allows you to choose the spiciness, but if you get, say, 2 different noodle dishes, as I have done, they will taste pretty much the same. It is, though slightly less expensive than Elephant so I think it just becomes personal preference between the two. read more

My go-to Thai restaurant all throughout college. Would go at least once a week. Food is amazing, especially the Chicken Panang and the Pad Prik Khing. It was especially helpful on the cold and rainy days, they delivered the food anywhere on campus. The staff and the service there give off a very homey vibe. Me and my girl friend used to go to this restaurant often because we loved their food and good prices. However saturday lunch at this restaurant totally ruined our experience here. We invited our friend for lunch and found a hair in her dish. We complained to our server and he didn't even apologize and just walked away with the dish. Later, when we were paying I asked him that he should have apologize to us at least. The guys goes "I didn't even cook and you are being an assho** to me." His reaction totally blew my mind. Passable, but certainly not "good" Thai. Pad Thai was greasy and bland, shrimp and chicken were overlooked, and the dipping sauce for the fresh rolls was more like a savory jell-o. Since returning to Richmond from years in Chicago being spoiled to death by tons of great incredible Thai food options, I have finally found a restaurant that compares to many of my favorite Thai delivery restaurants! I have had delicious Thai food at one other restaurant in town but their version of my favorites dishes, Spicy Drunken Noodle and Panang Curry just were not really what I was craving and they are way too pricy! I love spicy food and Thai Top Ten's American spicy is enough for any spice lover, can't imagine what their Thai spicy is like. So happy, craving fixed! This was not only the worst Thai food that I've ever had, this was the most disgusting food I've ever had the misfortune of ingesting ever. I am not a frequent Yelp reviewer, but I HAD to write something about this place because I was truly horrified by my experience. The second we opened the food we got a whiff of something that could only be described as dirty dish water. The fried veggie dumplings were filled with a grey mush and we had no idea what it could possibly be because it did not taste like anything. My dish was the tofu E17 (which did not include pineapple) and there was a pineapple chunk in it. This would not usually bother me, but I was already questioning the sanitation. Everything tasted like nothing - no lie water has more flavor. My roommate and I could only take a few bites each because our stomachs started rumbling, since there was no spice that we could taste this also made us very nervous. The food lacked taste, but it smelled like a dirty dishwasher. The food seemed like it had been sitting out for days. I am very upset because we spent $15+ each and the food was uneatable. read more

I was hopeful when I placed my order that this place would be prettry good. My go to is pad thai, and base a lot of my opinions on a thai restaurant on the fact that they can make a decent pad thai dish or not. I peaked in the takeout box and was excited, but with my first bite my tastebuds were asking too much. First off I ordered pad thai (mild) and tom yum soup. I got it mild bc tom yum soup is spicy, so I didn't want spicy soup and spicy noodles also. The noodles lacked any flavor. They look delicious but the taste was just lacking. After a few bites, I moved on to the soup. First off, the soup broth was ofd. No hue of red indicating a hint of spice, and upon tasting its flavors failed me. It was just broth, that had a hint of green onion. All in all. I give it two stars bc it might just be that cook having an off day. The staff was pleasant, portions were good for the price, but the food wasn't anything special. read more

And not a normal looking little chicken bone it was disgusting (greenish brown fluid goo leaking) I gagged and neither me nor my roommate could finish our food I called to complain and no answer. The place is usuallya hit or miss. Their thai ice tea is always perfect, not too sweet or too milky. The pad thai is pretty good and so is the noodle soup (pho). But I've had A LOT better especially at a place in Northern Virginia called Basil Thai (in chantilly, the one where Bobby Flay had a Pad Thai throwdown at). Back to this place, this time I ordered the Calamari (mispelled as "caramari" on the menu - which was way too long and it didn't look professional) with Thai iced tea and Pad See Ew for the entree. The calamari was thick rubbery chunks of squid and it would not go down my throat. I asked the server to give me something else and got an order of the money bags. They were fairly okay, way too oily and were packed with corn and chicken. Never knew corn was used in Thai food or perhaps they were trying to tend to the college crowd and Americanize their food. The appetizer wasn't the best start to a lunch but I waited to give the entree a shot and I literally took three bites before I put it down. It was overpoweringly drenched in salt and oil and lacked the heat I hoped for, epecially because I had asked for American hot. It also had a "meaty" smell to it, when I say "meaty" I don't mean anything like a sizzling steak would smell like. It was more of a cooked meat smell that had been sitting out too long. The Thai hot is way too spicy; in fact, they have signs posted saying they will not refund your food if it is too spicy so order carefully. Anyways, this time the place was a big let down. I usually leave 25% tip, but the service wasn't anything out of the ordinary and the food was defintely not anywhere near appetizing. But out of pity I still tipped the server 10%. read more

This is the only review I have ever bothered with. The message is: don't let this inconspicuous but outstanding little place pass under your radar; it's a treasure! Thai Top Ten is a sleeper. The location is tucked into plain spot on the 900 block of West Grace, in the center of VCU-land, so street parking it is; but they do delivery and take-out, too. The front doesn"t have a come hither vibe, but don't let that deceive you. This place is seriously one the totally great Thai food places in town and should not be overlooked! It's very much a family business. The chef is OUTSTANDING. What flavors! A couple of suggestions: Don't miss his magic chicken broth, freshly made- so have the Pho soup...at least. The Chicken Cashew is soo not ordinary and if you don't go for spicy or want to vary flavors, this will satisfy. I'm a big fan of Thai Top Ten! I'm not a Thai food connoisseur, but I definitely prefer it to the other places I have tried so far in the area (Elephant and Ginger Thai). I have not been to the restaurant but have had it delivered a few times. The Panang curry is delicious. The prices are quite reasonable, the portions are generous, the delivery is always on time or early (and free!), and the food tastes fresh and great!
