Mapa tofu
Cherie O.

This casual place was located inside of Grand Mart, which was not an offense but the food was definitely not good. Hubby chose what I wanted which was hot Bib im bap different from the cold one. Well yuck. It came out sizzling but the actual food was tasteless. No seasoning and cold until there was so little left when the hot bowl heated up what was left over. Yes, I tried it in the beginning and then again at the very end. I got Mapa tofu. Hubby took a taste and said it needed spice but at least it was temperature hot. All tofu though, with minced veggies that were so minced that I couldn't recognize them. A large portion of rice was included supposedly for the kimchi. Two pieces of cabbage, three pieces of pickled radish, two pieces of white onion and a very small dollop of fermented black bean sauce for the onions. Chairs were mismatched as some had cloth cushions vs. others with pleather. Service was nonexistent as the lady looked at me as if I had spoken Arabic when I asked if there was a dish high in veggies, however she carried on quite a conversation with another lady who wondered if she would dine here. Obviously English wasn't her problem. Then we had to bus our trays, tossing our trash and sorting the utensils. Pretty stiff prices for pick up and bussing imho especially for subpar food.

This restaurant is located inside the New Grand Mart market. The woman taking our order was very friendly. The food came out very quickly and piping hot! Food was very good, excited to come back to try more menu items!

I found this place while doing a google search of Korean restaurants. This isn't exactly a restaurant, more like a take out place inside an international grocery store. There are tables for a sit down meal. When I approached the counter, I didn't see bibimbap on the electronic monitor so I had to ask. They did have it so I placed an order with beef. The portion was perfect and the beef was nicely marinated. I was disappointed that everything came in styrofoam. None of the containers are recyclable.

Very authentic Korean food inside the super market. Dishes are in Korean name on the tv but they have menu with description on the counter. It's self service but it's kinda ridiculous for them to charge water that just got a plastic cup and you get it from the water machine. Ordered the fried chicken which is like a chicken lollipop, came in only 8 pcs. The jjam pong(spicy seafood noodle) is very flavorful and very big portion just for a normal size.

Ordered bulgogi and pork katsu for lunch, both were delicious. Staff was friendly and order was prepared quickly!

Jajangmyeon, tofu soup w seafood, and bulgogi

We are 100% coming back! Everything pictured was $44. I was skeptical about the tofu soup w seafood, but it was delicious! It had A LOT of tofu, so be ready to really eat! The bulgogi was not as marinated as we are used to but was still good and plentiful. The jajangmyeon (noodle dish on the upper left) was the ultimate comfort food. Tasty, heartwarming noodles. The restaurant is tucked away inside of an international grocery store, but this is not a deterrence for us because we enjoy casual meals and being able to stroll through the aisles afterwards. Was able to pick up some ingredients for Japanese curry and pho! Super convenient!

Tastes pretty authentic to me (mainly from Korean places in LA and Singapore), and was such a pleasant find on the way down from Virginia to North Carolina. Veggie Jajangmyeon - 4.5 stars Huge portion, tasty, and not too salty or too sweet, which is my main gripe with a lot of Korean places. The noodles were springy. Spicy beef noodles/stew - 4.25 stars Well-seasoned, had a good spicy kick. Ingredients tasted fresh and the beef was flavourful. The dolsot kept the food hot. Rice was good too.

Dang. Just dang. In town for a few weeks and this place looked like it had promise. Lady at the counter was speaking Korean to everyone but switched to Perfect English as I approached. This was nice because although I am very familiar with Korean food, the menu is a lot and I was sure some could be specialized to accommodate vegetarian tastes. She recommended what the receipt said was YukGye Jang, a spicy dish similar to kimchi soup. Came with rice and two banchan dishes. Got everything to go and headed back to hotel. The banchan, which included kimchi, was awesome. The main dish was packed with veggies and had a spicy taste that was addictive. Portions were huge and only $10 for the meal. So awesome, highly recommend. The lady at the counter was very pleasant and helpful.

So close! The unbelievable saltiness in the bulgogi was just to much for me to enjoy. This place is in a supermarket, and you'll find it in a corner as you walk in and then right. There's really not much in the way of decor, and I doubt anyone comes here for anything other than a huge serving of pretty authentic and delicious Korean food. Oh, and the prices are fairly reasonable, too! - Half and half bowl with sweet and sour pork and fried rice: freshly cooked pork with fresh chunky veggies were perfect, and I just wish there was more sauce. The fried rice was authentic, and so was the soybean sauce (these two mixed together is heaven). 5/5 - Bulgogi beef with steamed rice: what happened to the beef? All I will say is that I can't remember the last time I ate anything so salty. Needless to say, my stomach paid for it. 2/5 We wouldn't think twice about going back, but watch out for salty bulgogi.

Khanpungki

I've grown up going to Asian markets and eating at the little restaurants inside of them. So when the New Grand Mart opened up in Richmond I was excited to be able to buy better quality items (compared to the other asian markets in Richmond). I was also excited that I could fulfill my jjm craving right after. The food here is pretty good, but not anything, out of this world, amazing. It's your basic black bean noodle/seafood soup type of restaurant you find more often in the DC area. Food recommendations: -Jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) -Fried rice -Jjam bbong (spicy seafood soup) -Tang su yuk (fried pork in a sweet and sour sauce) -Khan pung ki (fried chicken in a spicy sauce) Some of these things have an option to get a half and half bowl, which is what I always get to have some variety.

Not my thing, rice was over cooked. Lacking in flavors. Was hoping for better. Really wanted to like it.

Has anyone tried the (Naengmyeon) cold noodles?

Yes, I personally think their Naengmyeon is really delicious. ;) Not as good as my mom's, but still really good.

The space is huge for a walking-mall restaurant, with several dozen tables and booths. Music is nice background not overly loud. Service was absolutely excellent and food came out within minutes. Empty dishes picked up within seconds. We ordered an appetizer of crab rangoon. It came to us hot and tasty but to be honest it had little to no fake crab in it. That was a little disappointing. For our mains I had chicken stir fried noodles and pork soup dumplings. When it was put in front of me I thought the noodles looked like a smallish portion but this turned out not to be the case -- the dish was more than adequate and very nicely composed. I enjoyed every bit of it but barely finished it. The soup dumplings were umami-on-a-spoon. Served in a steam basket, these were very warm and the broth inside was just perfect. I thought it was a tad salty, my wife disagreed. And since it was her main course and not mine, I will bow to her opinion. This was a nice casual meal, especially for the price. If you go, do not pass up the opportunity to walk up to the bao station and watch the food being made. Our server encouraged us to do this, and it was really interesting, and the staff doesn't seem to mind the attention!

For appetizer I got the cream cheese rangoons which were pretty good, just very cream cheese heavy. The BEST thing I tried was definitely the orange chicken. It is seriously one of the best I have tried. It is crunchy, flavorful, and so delicious, especially with their spicy crunchy oil on top. I could honestly come back just for that. The orange chicken from Ugly Dumpling is absolutely amazing!!!!! I was recommended the orange chicken by my server who was very kind and attentive!! Also, I got the noodles with spicy sauce which weren't super spicy but still tasty and I tried the veggie bao buns for the first time and really enjoyed them! Overall great food, and I will definitely keep coming back.

I had only planned on spending $60 or so but ended up spending $140 including a great tip for my waiter. I got the Fried Chicken Banh Mi, Dan Dan Noodles, and my guest ordered the Brisket Pho, and Singapore noodles alongside a Mojito and their coconut ice cube drink (blanking on the name). I loved every bite of my food. The Daikon Radish was the highlight of the Banh Mi and I was in love with every bite. Visibly dancing and gleaming with joy while eating + the great music being played also helped. I didn't eat my sandwich until it got cold as I like to finish a dish before trying another. I started with the Dan Dan noodles and had to drink 3 of the liters of water by myself to finish my meal . I took my guest's peppers and my peppers and crushed them up into my Dan Dan plate with all the seeds that came with them. In addition I also used all the chili oil paste it came with as well. It was so damn great I enjoyed every second. My guest loved their pho and didn't stop eating it and ate half of their Singapore noodles before getting full and having to take it home. They absolutely loved their drinks and it was so fun to watch the bartender make the drinks. Two shakers in hand mixing the drinks and oh boy were they strong . We will definitely be back!!! Oh and they also had chopsticks for us to use and we ate our entire meal with them. I knew I was in for a whirlwind of flavor when the ethnicities of the cooks matched the restaurant and patrons of color from Pakistani, Black, Indian, Korean, Thai, and more were dining in . Only downsides for me personally were the Singapore noodles but it wasn't my dish. I tasted them and didn't think they were for me I usually prefer a different ratio of seasoning for my Singapore noodles. My guest whose favorite dish is Singapore noodles quite adored them. Though they did say the Singapore noodles I make at home are better they still crushed it and the next morning woke up and crushed the rest with a smile on the face . Only thing I didn't like was the pho but that's my personal taste getting in the way. I don't like fish based broths but my guest ate every single last dropped and loved it! So if that's your alley go for it!!! 10/10 will try again!!! P.S. please tip the staff graciously they work so hard. If you're going to order a $100 worth of food don't be the person not tipping or tipping $10 when the service was excellent. Yes tipping cultures shouldn't exist but until they're paid a fair wage please continue to do so. I really hope this restaurant doesn't sell out like other restaurants (En Su Boca )

I thought the spicy cauliflower was yummy. The cauliflower was tossed in a gochujang sauce with a light crunchy batter. My partner thought the cauliflower was a bit bland. The serving of the appetizer was quite large for two people, we couldn't finish it all. I ordered the curry laksa. I usually stray away from coconut based curries because they tend to be too sweet, but I enjoyed this curry. The base is creamy and balances well with the savory/tangy flavors, and the veggies are fresh. The server brought out chili crisp upon request. The kung pao tofu glaze was a bit on the sweeter side and not as good. The sweet glaze on fried tofu made it taste almost like a French toast. Overall, a decent asian fusion spot to stop by for lunch or dinner.

The entryway is interesting and provides some shelter from the rain, allowing you to manage your umbrella before entering. We were seated within seconds, and our server, Liza, came by very promptly with some water for our table. I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too. Looking around the restaurant, it is clear that they support the local LGBTQ+ community, and it is even labeled as a Safe Space on the beautifully manicured, makeshift chalkboard/menu/posting board. The clientele and staff alike seemed warm and kind, based solely on limited interactions and observation on my part. If you are looking for a traditional American-Chinese food restaurant (think buffet-style items), this is likely not the place for you. There were no mishaps or snafus with our orders. Liza performed her duties well, and I can surely recommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't mind a mix of Japanese and Chinese cuisine.

Fortunately, I kept my receipt after hearing about similar situations happening before. When my statement came in, the charge didn't match. I called the restaurant to resolve the issue, and the floor manager said someone from management or accounting would follow up. Over a week later, I never received a call.
