I met a friend here for dinner the other night. We had a great time, and the staff were kind and friendly. We started with the truffle fries and the ahi tuna. The fries were good. The tuna was light and fresh. I had the curry laksa with chicken. It was very good. The berry fresca was super refreshing. They had a cozy ambiance, including high-top tables.

This is a low key gem with the ambiance of a casual date day and the food of a meal meant to impress! I can't believe I've never heard of it, but as I say all the time RVA surprises me with a new gift everytime I come through! Logistically the parking wasn't that bad considering where it's located. I practically parked right out front. Mind you time of day will definitely make a difference but even if you wind up on a side street it won't be a long walk. The dining room is very nice; small but not cramped, seven or eight tables/booths. The service was excellent. Our Server was personable, friendly, helpful to my wife who always wants to know their favorite thing on the menu, and was spot on with the recommendations. The food was EXCELLENT. Fresh, hot, flavorful, visually gorgeous. Everything was outstanding. My wife and I both found our meals to be executed with skill and aesthetically beautiful. I will likely hit this place up every time I'm in Richmond.

Walking around the Capital you can work up an appetite and if you are looking for sustenance and style make your way down hill to the Native Plate. Cheerfully greeted we got a great seat in the window for street watching..Great background music and a well decorated space make for a relaxing setting. We ordered spring rolls and ahi tuna starters. My, that Ahi was fresh and so good w a sea weed salad what a great choice. We thought the pho would be sampler size. Nope. Meal sized and the broth was super, so smooth and flavorful with just a little kick. Chicken was tender and wonderful. We would love to go back here when we had more time to sample the bountiful menu and we will. It was a great lunch and just right to try back to our walk to explore more of Richmond. Native Plate, yes.

It turns out my partner and I had been here before and forgot all about it. I was feeling drained after a tough day, and we stopped in around 9 pm on a Saturday night. The server was a lovely young woman, who was kind and accommodating with an excellent smile. She was quick to boot. We ordered the gochuhang cauliflower and rice paper rolls (they're massive!) for an appetizer. My partner was not very hungry, so she snacked on the cauliflower with no entree. She said they were crispy and mouth watering, and saved me a few to try with the leftovers. The rice paper rolls were almost half the size of a Chipotle burrito, and the peanut sauce was heavenly. They stick to your hands a bit, though, I didn't mind. The sauce was a sweet and savory mixture; I felt it was the perfect blend (I took two to-go ramikens home for some additional dipping plesure). I ordered the Bulgogi BBQ, because I had to know if it lived up to the hype. Spoiler alert: it does. The chicken was thinly sliced, tender, and moist, while the sauce and vegetables absolutely hit the mark (Chef's kiss). We also enjoyed the most delicious Thai Iced Tea you'll ever try. Not a drop left near the end. Native Plate is such an easy and solid recommend. There is no doubt we'll be back soon.

10/10 all around Several vegan options on the menu (just ask--our server was super helpful). We ended up with the gochujang cauliflower, Indonesian fried rice (tofu, no egg, extra chili oil) and the tofu bulgogi. They even had mocktails (guava mojito was amazing) AND vegan dessert (coconut rice pudding cups with banana flambé on top--almost TOO good). Our waiter Eric was one of the best we've experienced anywhere. He was so enthusiastic and ready to help. Great attitude. It was really cute in there and we loved our high-top table by the window. It would be better if vegan options were marked clearly on the menu but it's ok!

This is a great little restaurant. Everyone was friendly, the food was great and came out really fast. I came here on a Saturday evening without a reservation and sat at the bar because there were no open seats. Once a table became available the hostess offer a table. Overall a great experience.

My cousin and fellow foodie like to catch up over cocktails and a good plate! We decided to give @nativeplaterva a try on a school night, lol! The space is definitely a vibe in a cute location near Shockoe Bottom. The staff as soon as we came in were super welcoming and helpful! All the tables were full midway through our visit, definitely favored among the community. We both chose items that were highly recommended on other foodie platforms and some suggested by our waitress (super helpful and nice). We made it in time for HH and ordered their house margaritas (KP ordered the pomegranate and I had guava, 3.4/5 I've had stronger HH margs but this one was refreshing and they use really good guava juice). We ordered the Pok Pok wings (3.2/5-fried well, smaller in portion) and Gochujang cauliflower (3/5-the cauliflower wasn't as tender as I had imagined but battered well). For entree's I ordered the Singapore noodles (2.9/5-the shrimp were pleasantly plump and juicy but the pork was a bit dry) and KP opted to try the Katsu curry, chicken was beautifully fried. The portions were plentiful and plated well but we all agreed (I took my leftovers to Mimi for her dinner) if the flavors/seasonings were elevated the food would have been amazing! Nonetheless we had a lovely evening out! If you've tried let me know your thoughts/order!

A large flavorless Showing Roll with a soupy peanut sauce that had no flavor.

The service and hospitality leaves a lot to be desired and I did not have a good experience. The appetizer Spring roll was filled a little shrimp cut in half and vegetables that were bland. Also, i went to the bathroom and the kitchen was nasty. The lady server made up some excuse for not allowing certain seats to be occupied during lunch and the guy server asked me if I needed hot sauce for a Spring Roll that had a very flavorless peanut sauce. A few years ago, I haft a much better experience but it will be awhile before I return.

I'm a food above atmosphere person but both were on par at Native plate! The staff were so diligent and I loved watching the cooks pour their soul into the food. I had only planned on spending $60 or so but ended up spending $140 including a great tip for my waiter. I got the Fried Chicken Banh Mi, Dan Dan Noodles, and my guest ordered the Brisket Pho, and Singapore noodles alongside a Mojito and their coconut ice cube drink (blanking on the name). I loved every bite of my food. The Daikon Radish was the highlight of the Banh Mi and I was in love with every bite. Visibly dancing and gleaming with joy while eating + the great music being played also helped. I didn't eat my sandwich until it got cold as I like to finish a dish before trying another. I started with the Dan Dan noodles and had to drink 3 of the liters of water by myself to finish my meal . I took my guest's peppers and my peppers and crushed them up into my Dan Dan plate with all the seeds that came with them. In addition I also used all the chili oil paste it came with as well. It was so damn great I enjoyed every second. My guest loved their pho and didn't stop eating it and ate half of their Singapore noodles before getting full and having to take it home. They absolutely loved their drinks and it was so fun to watch the bartender make the drinks. Two shakers in hand mixing the drinks and oh boy were they strong . We will definitely be back!!! Oh and they also had chopsticks for us to use and we ate our entire meal with them. I knew I was in for a whirlwind of flavor when the ethnicities of the cooks matched the restaurant and patrons of color from Pakistani, Black, Indian, Korean, Thai, and more were dining in . Only downsides for me personally were the Singapore noodles but it wasn't my dish. I tasted them and didn't think they were for me I usually prefer a different ratio of seasoning for my Singapore noodles. My guest whose favorite dish is Singapore noodles quite adored them. Though they did say the Singapore noodles I make at home are better they still crushed it and the next morning woke up and crushed the rest with a smile on the face . Only thing I didn't like was the pho but that's my personal taste getting in the way. I don't like fish based broths but my guest ate every single last dropped and loved it! So if that's your alley go for it!!! 10/10 will try again!!! P.S. please tip the staff graciously they work so hard. If you're going to order a $100 worth of food don't be the person not tipping or tipping $10 when the service was excellent. Yes tipping cultures shouldn't exist but until they're paid a fair wage please continue to do so. I really hope this restaurant doesn't sell out like other restaurants (En Su Boca )

I've passed this place several times on my way to and from work. I finally was able to try it out with my friend on Saturday. The drinks were good ! Food was amazing ! Great options too if you're vegetarian ! It was pretty empty around lunch time but totally worth the lovely environment! The staff were friendly as well and the service was good.

Puny portions, all breading no meat, and was given barely any meat. It was also burnt. Not worth 18 dollars. Highly disappointed considering the reviews.

Wow, great pick by my hubby. I got duck bao buns and he got the vermicelli bowl with chicken. Both were delicious and surprisingly filling for us foodies who thought "there's no way we're going to get out of here with just that pitiful amount ", but yes I ate my words and then some. Delicious and finger licking good. I could only two of the baos so my hubby ate the last one. I chomped on the crunchy taro root chips. Yummy. Fast and kind service. Clean for a smaller area.

if you are going to read any of these dumb yelp review in full, this is the one…read more i once read an article describing the talent of the head chef's ability here to "cram so much bold flavor into a tiny dish". in general, i usually dread small plate restaurants expecting to pay a large bill and leave hungry. this was the exception. these were the most unique, creative, high end, flavorful, dishes i have ever had. seriously. the absolute best BITES of my ENTIRE life. i swear to god dormant tastebuds and flavors i didn't even know existed were provided here. the chef here draws spanish inspiration into each dish, and i was in there feeling like the food critic from ratatouille the way familiar flavors blended in effortlessly with extravagant flairs. and don't get me started on the presentation !!! everything was gorgeous. this restaurant was named #3 out of 100 in the city, and i honestly think it should be #1. i may be biased since my boyfriend works at a sister restaurant owned by the same guy, but this is definitely the favorite sibling for me. unreal how fresh, flavorful, and carefully crafted everything was. so so so so good. if you come to richmond, make this the top priority to visit. that being said, if you can't handle intense, innovative flavors, this isn't the place for you. also, go during happy hour

Hats off to the staff at Lillian who continue to be wonderful, but now that they have scrapped…read moretheir dollar oyster lunch specials, the food has absolutely nothing to offer. Like too many restaurants in the Scott's Addition area, this is seafood cooked without finesse and then absolutely brutalized with absurd amounts of palate fatiguing, brash, loud flavors. Every item on the menu endeavors to conceal mediocrity in the quality and handling of the ingredients with explosive, overwhelming additives meant to shock you into submission. Things like black garlic and chili oil, raw garlic, sesame seed oil, and punishing heat are inescapable on the menu, which really says to me loud and clear "we do not understand the appeal of seafood, and might have a fundamental misunderstanding about good food in general." I don't exaggerate when I say these dishes would be improved (setting aside things like inability to properly cook octopus) by scaling back the flavors to 5-10% the loudness level they are currently at, to let the ingredients speak, and to make the dining experience less of a punishing marathon with no relief. I have had much subtler and more skillfully balanced dishes at Indian and Thai restaurants, cuisines known for strong flavor profiles. I'm through listening to these Richmond restaurants trying to excuse simply bad food by claiming "that's the nature of the cuisine." In this case, Lillian claims that dishes characterized by these cacophonous competing flavors is "South American." No it isn't - the person conceptualizing the dishes is just a bad chef who doesn't know what he's doing, and at the prices Lillian charges, that's inexcusable. Drowning every dish in flavors that overwhelm the palate is not a way to respect your ingredients or your diner, and only communicates youth and insecurity. Anyone who's eaten widely and knows their ingredients will rightly feel assaulted and insulted by this overpriced, unskilled fare. To anyone who decides to go anyway: Good luck with the digestive distress, and with the taste that will still be left over in your mouth the next morning, no matter how much you brush your teeth.

He asked for the password and we, unprepared, had to tell him a joke or an interesting fact. Luckily, my partner had one on hand. The atmosphere was lovely, very reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy, or at least what you'd imagine it to be like. Our server came by within a few minutes of us being seated. She lacked enthusiasm, unlike the host, unfortunately. Her service turned out to be lackluster as well. We ordered the chicken pot pie and the filet mignon with asparagus. For drinks, the Grape Gatsby and Maine root beer. The food, like our server, lacked appeal. The saving grace was the host and the atmosphere. The view was lovely and the intimacy of the setting was a welcome experience. For dessert we ordered the bread pudding, and it was tasty, though nothing special. The burned odor that we smelled prior to its arrival turned out to be the bread. I can recommend Grandstaff and Stein as an experience, but you should not expect much in the way of culinary delights or exemplary service. We probably won't be back, but if you've never been, it's worth trying at least once.
