First of all, this place smells AMAZING when you walk in. Such a great scent to bring you into the mood for the food. And it's a cute setup in there, a nice date night place. I really liked my pad Thai, I got spice level 3 (should have gotten 4) but it was awesome. Not too saucy, but with great flavor. It's been a long time since sitting at a table with a cloth tablecloth. It really gives that upscale feel to this restaurant. For the lunch choices you get the choice of soup or salad. Both were flavorful. The soup is mainly cabbage but the broth had a lot of flavor. The salad was a basic garden salad but the ginger dressing tasted refreshing. The spicy basil fried rice didn't have as much of the bold flavor that I was expecting. However, the Pad Thai was very good. I've been dining at Thai Topaz for years. I enjoy the upscale dining room and the delicious food. Unfortunately, the restaurant week lunch menu was a disappointment. I selected tod mun gai ( red curry flavored fried chicken patties). The texture was spongy...not crispy at all. I asked my server if it was supposed to be spongy and she said they were supposed to be crispy. My replacement order tasted the same. My friend ordered the summer rolls which she enjoyed but needed more sauce. My entree, shrimp pad Thai, was delicious. My friend enjoyed her shrimp green curry. For dessert, I selected the coconut ice cream. I was surprised that the mini scoop was garnished with whole peanuts. They should have been crushed as a garnish. I detected a floral note in the ice cream. Learned that jasmine extract is added. This is an unexpected flavor that I didn't enjoy. I was expecting a more coconut flavor like Baskin Robbins nutty coconut. I'll stick with the lunch menu at Thai Topaz. I didn't feel that I got a good value for $20 when I could have ordered the lunch shrimp pad Thai and an appetizer salad for $12.50 + $3 up charge for shrimp. read more

I totally love going here. The pineapple rice is simply delicious and the presentation is on point! The service is always great and the ambiance is so relaxing. She brought me my Jasmine tea and chopsticks right away. We had Veggie Spring Rolls to share, the Emerald Salmon and the Mixed Vegetables. Both of these are our favorites. Just bursting with flavor and very good portions for lunch. Our son likes the children's Chicken Bowl meal and Hibiscus tea. We finished our meal with Mango ice cream to share, creamy and delicious. Several of us tried different dishes including basil, chicken, pineapple, fried rice, and of course, the famous Pad Thai. All had different levels of spice and all were delicious. Decided to try out the To Good To Go app to try some newer (to me) spots in the area. I did two surprise bags. First, I walked in the door and was immediately greeted by an amazingly sweet woman who immediately asked if I was there for To Good To Go pickup and rushed into telling me how lucky I was because I was getting the house specialty Pineapple Fried Rice. Ma'am, with all do respect, your excitement was infectious, but you made my day by saying pineapple. I didn't need anything aside from chopsticks after that point. The pineapple fried rice I received was vegetarian, so the protein was cashews. There was also broccoli and raisins in it, which made it feel like a fusion of Asian fried rice and Middle Eastern fried rice. Next time, I'd probably get it Thai hot with chicken instead, but do not miss this: There WILL be a next time. My second surprise bag had the best summer rolls I've had in SATX to date, which is saying a lot since that's a must order item for me at all Thai places. Most places have dried out wrappers that make it apparent it's on the way out, but these were very obviously fresh. Served with the clear peanut sauce, rather than the creamy peanut sauce. Perfectly light and delicious pairing and I'm definitely going back just to order a dozen more of these! I also received egg drop soup that had good flavor, but I'm just not an egg drop person. Personally, I'm not used to ordering Thai food below Thai hot, so it just wasn't for me. I can see that helping a sick child get nutrients and feel better, but it's a no from me. I need some Thai hot curry next time! Great food, cute shop, solid parking (even some assigned spots right out front). I'll be back another day to give more of the menu a shot. Not big into Thai but that is what our out of town guests requested for dinner so after stopping at the other Thai restaurant across the way who had nowhere to seat our party together we made it here. We were able to sit in a private area enclosed by curtains. According to our guests this wasn't authentic Thai, but instead Americanized. Since I'm not a big Thai enthusiast I couldn't tell you why they said that. I had the Golden curry. I ordered it at a 4, heat level, 1-5 is the spice level or you can order Thai Hot, the most spicy. We went here to celebrate my birthday and it was the best decision I've ever made. I love Thai food and this was the best Thai food I've had in a long time! I guess you can say this is now my favorite spot. We had our own private room and it was an experience for my family. Even my grandparents that have never had Thai food loved it! The Bubble tea was delicious and tasted fresh. I had the red curry and it was the best curry I've had since this one place in LA from 2019. Also the spring rolls took me back to my childhood and the pad Thai was delicious and the green curry! I wish I took more pics of the food and private room but I was just so happy to experience everything. Ok, I spoke with Liz the manager and the owner about this situation and I STILL don't understand. To start this off, I called the order in and asked for the combo pad Thai and panang curry with chicken. The order taker said they don't have a combo pad Thai but could add whichever meat is requested. Sure! She didn't disclaim how much it would be and asked which meats we wanted. I asked for chicken, shrimp and beef. (I could swear they've done it before here) Anyhow, my order would be ready in 20 minutes so I sent my husband to get it. The order taker gives my husband the food bag and proceeds to charge him $53.21. FOR TWO ORDERS!? He told her no, take it off. He wasn't going to pay $30 for a pad Thai! (Who would!?) She said she couldn't take it off and he said yes you can, I don't accept the food nor the price of it. I called when he came back with just my order because he showed me the receipt. First off, there are VARYING prices for the pad Thai. $12.50-$13.00 per the website/Door Dash and $15.00 on Favor. We looked closer and the charge was $16.00 for pad Thai, $3.00 for chicken, $3.00 for beef and $6.00 for shrimp. NOT TO MENTION 10% gratuity! How? Make it make sense!!!! In speaking with Liz/owner they could not tell me why there was gratuity nor could they explain the massive up charges. They said this "you asked for the pad Thai with all the meats, that's what you were charged for." That's meat ala carte prices!!!! Ridiculous! They stuck firm to never offering a combo, to which we will not return there again. We are all about supporting local and small businesses, but this is bush league! My panang curry was delicious but menu transparency and pricing ruined it for us. Word to this establishment: match your receipt and menu pricing across the board! I made a reservation for 6 as I had family coming into town and I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to try out a new-to-me place. Thai Topaz did not disappoint! We were warmly greeted and immediately shown to our table in a little room off to the side. It was such a nice area and had a private feel to it. The ambiance was enjoyable and noise level fairly quiet so it was nice to have an easy conversation without having to talk over loud music. If you are looking for quality Thai food, you won't find it here. We ordered two Thai classics (Pad Thai & Pad Woon Sen). The Pad Thai tasted like a sweetened spaghetti (perhaps a tomato based sauce was used) and the Pad Woon Sen lacked flavor altogether. I could really only taste the cabbage in the dish, which was disappointing to say the least. The servers were nice and the atmosphere is inviting, but this meal was definitely not worth it. I'd highly recommend that you go to Thai Buri on 1604 & Blanco instead. read more

Went Saturday evening for dinner, the space was already getting busy. There's an entrance for to-go orders and on the other side, the dining area. Clean space, nice decor, friendly attentive servers. For apps we ordered the crab rangoons, they came out very quickly and were freshly made, piping hot and crispy. For an entree, ordered the Emerald Salmon and oh my! Tender salmon filet, cooked to perfection, in a coconut tamarind sauce, and a bit of spice. Phenomenal with the jasmine rice, avocado and asparagus as sides. Also tried the Spicy Mango Delight and that was phenomenal as well! Portions are generous so we didn't order dessert. Would absolutely love to try their pad Thai and other noodles next time. I've made my way up and down the menu over the last year, and I must say they are pretty decent. Not the best Thai food in town, but they are worth the visit. One thing I have noticed is that every time I have ordered something with tofu, they include PLENTY of it, and they know exactly how to cook it. It's the perfect firmness, perfectly toasted, and the texture seems very close to chicken. So I give them a definite A+ for their tofu. *However*, the ratio of veggies to tofu is usually WAY off. Most of their entrees include your choice of protein: tofu, chicken, pork, beef, or shrimp (prices vary based on your choice of protein - all of the items described below were ordered with tofu) Let's start with the Pad Thai ($13). This entrée is about a pound of food - plenty for two people, or two meals. It has a great taste, and as I mentioned, a ton of tofu. The only thing keeping me from loving this Thai staple is the imbalance of ingredients. It could honestly stand some more bean sprouts and peanuts. Mixed Vegetable Stir Fry entrée ($13) This dish is bathed in a sweet tasting sauce, and has a perfect balance between sweet and spicy if ordered at spicy level "4". The tofu is very flavorful and juicy. It's mostly tofu and carrots with a little bit of zucchini, some broccoli, a few bean sprouts (but not many), and a touch of cabbage and onions. All of their stir fry entrees include a side of steamed jasmine rice. Like the Pad Thai, this entrée is enough for two meals. Thai Topaz Broccoli ($14) Tofu and steamed broccoli in a spicy peanut sauce (includes steamed jasmine rice). I was disappointed in this one. As the name of this dish implies, I was expecting plenty of broccoli, but instead, I found it quite lacking in that veggie department. Pad Woon Sen ($13) Glass noodles, mixed veggies, egg, onions, and bean sprouts. This one has PLENTY of glass noodles, and lots of onion and cabbage, but again falls short with the quantity of other veggies. Sweet & Sour Stir Fry ($13) This has the typical sweet and sour taste of pineapples and a sweet sauce. It's mostly tofu and tomatoes with a few chunks of pineapple, a scattered cucumber and onion slices. Spicy Crazy Noodles ($13) CARB OVERLOAD! This dish is very heavy handed with the rice noodles. It has an ok taste to it, but I was tired of the noodles before I finished my way through it. It includes a few red bell pepper and onion slices and a smattering of bean sprouts. I appreciate the amount of tofu they provide (many places skimp on this), but I wish they would balance the entrees out a bit more with the veggies and other ingredients. read more
