Thai Unique catered my wedding. They were already my favorite restaurant in Placerville, but Punchita went ABOVE AND BEYOND for my wedding. She took extra time and care setting up the food and making it look nice, was communicative throughout the whole process, and was so friendly and warm. She even provided a dispenser of Thai Iced Tea. We wanted to enjoy this meal but it was a huge disappointment. The food was really mild - we ordered takeout and DoorDash at least didn't allow us to pick mild/medium/spicy like we're used to with Thai restaurants. It's unclear if this is a DoorDash thing or restaurant - so I can't speak to if you can order spicy level when dining in. They did get the order right and included hot sauce like I requested in the special instructions. The order was made in the time expected. Unfortunately when eating my dish there was a sticker in the food, like a vegetable label. In my fiancés dish there was a hair. We immediately threw out the food because we were too grossed out to continue eating. The food has potential and since we didn't dine in, I don't hold it to the exact same standards as what we'd experience in the restaurant, and it's pandemic times. However whether takeout or dining in, I don't want unsanitary items in my food, hence the 1 star. Hope they can avoid this for other guests in the future. read more

We have eaten here many times over the years and it has never been a disappointment. My wife is quite fond of the lemongrass chicken salad and the fresh rolls. I was feeling in a spicy curry way and noticed in the menu it saying something about a specialty of Thai fried rice, and thinking to myself "it's fried rice, what could be special about it?". I swear, they're doing something different, because it was fantastic, and then the curry over it really pulled it off. I even scrambled some eggs into it the next morning for breakfast. We have been gone to this restaurant since December last year because we want to support local business during a pandemic! It has been fine for last few months but it's going down hill since last 3,4 month. This time we went on Sunday, the restaurant didn't have AC, they used 2 fans for whole restaurant, it was so hot all of my family were sweating & using the menu for a fan. Food is getting worse, the soup ( tomyum soup) is so salty, I add white rice in it still couldn't eat. The pad thai came out so mushy, lots of sauce tasted like you eat noodle with caramel. Went to Thai Unique as a foursome last weekend and left so happily full and with wayyy too many to-go containers! Came to Thai Unique for lunch on a Sunday and was initially worried because the outdoor dining was closed due to bad weather. One look inside and my concerns were calmed because they took social distancing to the max. All of the tables are very well separated and hand sanitizer is waiting on top of each table. Place was not crowded and I felt safe. We ordered the following things: Combination appetizer platter (spring roll, crispy tofu, satay chicken, giew tod) (3 stars- the chicken satay was delicious, everything else was average) Tom Yum with shrimp (4 stars, delicious but not the best I've ever had) Tom Yum with tofu (3 stars, the tofu was bland) Green curry with tofu (5 stars - best green curry I've ever had! So amazingly tasty) Yellow curry with shrimp (5 stars, absolutely delicious) Chow mein (4 stars- great, not extraordinary like the green curry) Pad eggplant with tofu (5 stars- I want more!) Service was EXCELLENT. Portions are GIGANTIC. HAD Bay area Thai portion expectations in mind and clearly over-ordered (no regrets, it was great the following day) Wish it was local to me because it's been two days and I'm already craving more green curry and pad eggplant! read more

This was my first time ever ordering Thai food and to be honest I had no idea what I was trying to order. I order 2 dishes and an appetizer and the entrees weren't really what I was wanting, but I knew the appetizer I would like since it was crispy springs rolls. Regardless the food was eaten by friends who were fully satisfied with the food and equally excited that I had paid and surprisingly let them devour it. All in all the experience was great and the customer service was phenomenal. The ambiance was great, but I don't think the hostess liked us, as she sat us away from everyone else, in an empty section. The table was unclean & the floor unswept. Our waiter was great, but it must've been hard for him remember us sequestered from his other tables. He did immediately bring us settings & ask for our drink order. It was my husband's pre-Birthday dinner, so we went all out with 2 appetizers & our main course. It occurred to me that our entrees might not come with rice, so I tried to call the waiter over. He was quite busy & didn't see me, but the busboy did, and came over. I asked if our meals included rice & was informed they did not, so we ordered rice to accompany our meal. The food was spectacular & their 3 chili rating is equivalent to the 5 star heat rating locally. I would definitely return. read more

Looking for a place with delicious food and awesome safety protocols during a pandemic? This is it. We were looking for a place to get food after a long camping trip. We wanted to avoid fast food -- in part because it seems more risky than small operations like this -- and Thai Unique fit the bill. They have a great online ordering platform and our food was ready in about 30 min after ordering (we ordered online while on the road). When we arrived to pick up, they had clearly-marked social distancing measures in place, signage to indicate waiting and check in areas, etc., and everyone was wearing masks. We got there a little before our food was ready and at one point the cook came out to give a time estimate and she was wearing a face shield. Yes. Please. Anyway, top it all off the food was really great! The drunken noodle was spicy and had tons of crispy tofu. The chicken satay came with a peanut sauce and a fresh cucumber sauce, both of which were fab. The spring rolls were fresh and had just the right amount of filling (and also accompanied by the awesome peanut sauce). The green curry had tons of chicken and veggies and also plenty of good spice. If you have kids, try the crispy chicken over rice. Even our pickiest eater accepted it as a good chicken nugget substitute (much to my dismay, as it was super crispy and panko-covered and definitely suitable for adult consumption....) I know this is a tough time for restaurants, so please consider tossing some coin in this place's direction if you can afford it. They're doing a great job. Highly recommend. read more

One of the best Thai food restaurants I've been to. We had three dishes and all were very good. A salad with prawns, coconut curry chicken (green curry) and a garlic shrimp dish. Very fresh food. It took a little time to get the food but it was worth the wait. I don't know if it's the same chef all the time, but so good. read more

Yes, this is a pretty decent, friendly place for the uninitiated in Thai cuisine. Being part of a group of 16, we shared a ton of plates and it was great; very well seasoned, with the right amount of spice, and abundant portions. The service was slow tho- even though the restaurant was at about half capacity. Staff was mostly friendly and efficient. I'd be willing to try again. read more

We ordered the appetizer Giew Tod (deep fried ground chicken wrapped in wonton with a side of sweet & sour sauce), which was super crunchy and tasteful. Also the Basil Fried Rice which was this oily-basily, vegetable-packed, flavorful dish that can be shared with 2 people. Lastly, their Green Curry with Tofu has the perfect balance with spice and creaminess from the coconut milk. They pack the curry with many tofu-skin tofus and vegetables. A very solid and quality restaurant with great portion sizes. Ordered take-out on a Thursday night, be prepared for a 45+ min wait so call when you're not too hungry! read more

If I could give negative stars, I would. we have ate here a handful of times and every time it has been really good but tonight it literally tasted like it was cooked on the resturant kitchen floor. Not to mention when you walk in they have a menu type policy they hand you with the regular menus basically stating that get what you get and you don't throw a fit! Even if the food was straight up dog vomit like it was tonight, that sucks for you! There's basically a PowerPoint presentation breakdown about how their return policy works It's quite ridiculous. Also, I'd like to add that their employees are wearing sweatpants and crop tops to work in a restaurant environment. I lived in Thailand for a year and to say that that food is Thai food is an insult to the culture. Had to stop at McDonald's on the way home because I could not eat my food. Do better Thai unique, I don't know if you got a new cook or something but your food has definitely changed for the worse. We will be going to Thai Noodle Express down the street when going out to Thai food in the future. While the food here is still good, prices have gone up a LOT (which is understandable considering inflation) but portion size has been DRASTICALLY reduced. Once the two young men who were servers went away to college service has gone way down hill. The female server with the glasses is horrible! She is so incompetent. We drove through Placerville recently at lunch time and were pleased to discover this restaurant. We enjoyed pad Thai, a coconut milk-based soup with a generous helping of chicken, fried rice with lots of tasty veggies and shrimp, and a "unique" stir fry of broccoli, spinach and pork in peanut sauce that went well with sticky rice.
