We live 3 hours away and come to Lansing to visit our daughter, but I would drive 3 hours for this food . It is DELICIOUS.

For years Thai Village in Lansing was one of my favorite restaurants. Today I foolishly ordered a dish off their take-out menu that there were calling General Tso's Chicken, with usual description. I thought that was interesting, as I don't remember seeing that on their menu in the past. So I ordered it, expecting a hand-dipped breaded, deep fried chicken dish, with General Tso's sauce and broccoli. What I received was deep friend UNBREADED dried out nasty overcooked cubed chicken, in what tasted like a Kung Pao or Hunan sauce (sorry, not an expert on the difference there). The sauce was brown (not pale orangish-yellow) and spicey /slightly hot (with, I suspect, MSG but not sure because the headache hasn't set in yet). Too salty, no sweetness at all, no breading, wrong color and flavor altogether. And the chicken was deep-friend chunks with NO breading, very dried out and tough. Wow. Also, we were foolish enough to order spring rolls. Undercooked, soggy and limp, not even remotely crispy, and felt and tasted as if they'd been in a freezer too long and were only defrosted in a microwave and not deep fried. Sad -- they've gone from one of top favorites for our family to, "we're holding on to leftoevers for a few days in case we need to notify the health dept." mode. Our family is so done with Thai Village! Awful! If anyone gets actually ill from this meal, I will attempt to come back and take away a star and update. read more

Was in Lansing and craving some Thai so thought I would try this place out. Wish I would have read the reviews first and saved myself the $20 bucks. Service okay but not so much the food. I've eaten a lot of Thai and this isn't it. All of the ingredients there, but the flavor is completely off. The sauce is overwhelming. It's too sweet and too salty all at the same time. The food was inedible. I sent my order back and it came back just as salty. I took two bites and when our table complained all of our meals were so salty, the server said "what do you want me to do? Take them all back?" We said this was something someone else warned us about. Most of us could not finish the food because it tasted so bad. We asked for a discount at least but that request resulted in a screaming match in back and the server returned to say because we didn't return the food when we asked, they wouldn't give a discount. We landed on Thai Village by accident the other night after the place we tried to go for Thai food was closed early. It had been a while since we've eaten here and I decided to go with my usual Thai order of Pad Thai with shrimp and a side of spring rolls. The noodles were a little larger and thicker than other Thai spots that I've had recently, and they looked a little more yellow as well. I couldn't tell if the color was from the seasonings or maybe they used more egg yolk? Either way, it was pretty good. I thought the spice level was a just a little mild for what was supposed to be medium spice, but I also don't think I would try to go up a level next time because I think hot would be too hot. I loved the spring rolls and sauce that came with them for dipping and may even be back here just for those! read more

I was a somewhat regular customer here but because of recent changes this restaurant has made I won't be going back. They now have an automated phone system to answer their phone and require you now to add your email, credit card and or debit card information in order to place an order even for pickup even over the phone. They don't even have an option now to speak to a human. Or if they did, they certainly were not using it the last two times I tried calling to order. I always paid cash just like I do at most restaurants. Their food is not worth the hassle of conforming my preferences around them. Goodbye Thai Village. I hope the change works out for you. I enjoyed this Thai restaurant in downtown Lansing for the most part. The area it is located in is trendy and the restaurant itself is appropriately decorated. I tried the Hot and Sour soup, the Crab Rangoon, the Chicken Satay, and the Panang Curry. The appetizers were good, although the chicken satay was a little dry, but the dipping sauce helped that. The panang curry, however, was delicious. I have never had a panang curry prepared with grilled vegetables, but this was prepared that way. The peas, green peppers, carrots, etc. were grilled and that flavor with the curry itself was amazing. Sadly, my trip here ended on a bad note...I received a parking ticket...but that's not this restaurant's fault. Pay the correct meter before going in and enjoying your delicious Thai meal! read more

I was extremely disappointed with the food. There was enough rice to feed a large family but only three broccoli stalks and very little chicken and shrimp. The flavor was just okay. If you are looking for something more than a large container of fried rice, I would not order from here. I called to voice my concern and was told that they do not count broccoli or chicken. Initially this place was going to get 2 stars because the setting was dull and there was only a woman and her two daughters present other than myself. BUT, this place gets 4 stars because I had their Thai Village Rice with Tofu and shrimp (no meat) and it was AMAZING! Slightly sweet and definitely spicy (although I asked for mild) but definitely great tasting. Who cares about the mood, I went for the food. Thai Village is a good location downtown Lansing for all of your Thai food needs. The staff is very friendly and the customer service is outstanding. I recommend stopping in for some pad thai but be careful of the spice Factor when ordering off of their menu. Some other food is extremely spicy. This is the 5th Thai place I've tried since living in Lansing and I've finally found a good one. I always get pad thai with tofu and other places were either bland, tasted weird, or the tofu wasn't cooked right. This place checked all the boxes for a delicious pad thai. Great food for relatively low prices compared with a lot of Thai restaurants. We went for dinner at 8:00 on a Monday night and got a spot right outside the door. Dinner here includes hot and sour soup which you almost never get anymore. It was very good and definitely had a little kick to it. We ordered the crab rangoons and the veggie spring rolls to start. The rangoons (5) were delicious, fresh with a great flavor and the sauce was extra citrusy. Spring rolls (2) were pretty standard (and very hot). For our entree we got the Pad See Ew which I am always hesitant to do at new places since I'm pretty picky about the dish, but we were very pleased! We ordered it medium with tofu. It was just the right heat, the broccoli was fresh and perfectly cooked, and there was lots of gravy which is key! Total bill for two apps, two soups and one entree was $13.50. What?! Awesome. Couldn't even finish all the food between two of us, so looking forward to some very good leftovers later tonight. Between the low prices, nice service, and delicious food, this place was a winner. We'll be back. EDIT: Changed from five to four stars after a couple more visits with friends. We've had two distinct dishes included the Pad Thai here that taste fine but have a VERY strong smell...I won't get into specifics but definitely something you don't want your food smelling like :P We've been sticking with the Pad Se-eew since then and still love it. read more

Without question, this is the worst Thai food I've ever had in my life. I did give it one star because the food was very inexpensive, and it was prepared very quickly. PSYCH! I gave it one star because Yelp won't let me give it zero. A couple of points to start off with here: (a) Thai cuisine is one of my favorites, and I eat it often (b) I haven't gotten on to write a review in quite some time, but the horrendous food prepared by this restaurant inspired me to do so If there was a choice between never eating Thai food again for the rest of my life and eating one more time at Thai village, I'd be willing to completely forego Thai food forever. I ordered the "Drunken Noodles." I'm not sure if the noodles were intoxicated, but they can't have been prepared by a sober person. They were flavorless and overcooked. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm relatively certain that these noodles were cooked in crude oil. (You could get better Thai food from one of those prepared packets in the Asian section of the grocery store. If this is the best Thai food in Lansing...wow.) I don't usually like to waste food, but I paid for my meal and left after two bites. I had to go to a freakishly fast sandwich shop nearby so that I could manage to get lunch during my break. On the upside, if Thai Village would consider cutting down their oil consumption, it's entirely possible that we can reduce our dependence on foreign oil without having to resort to fracking. read more

I live downtown and could not WAIT for the Thai Restaurant to open. It did not disappoint! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is very pleasant and it is very convenient. I also like that it is open late in this area as a lot of the restaurants close after the lunch hour. I love Thai food, but for those of you like me who cannot eat the spicy stuff, there is plenty of delicious mild or mildly spicy items on their seven page menu. You can also take out. Ordered pad thai it was just ok and the second time we got chef special fried rice it had almost no meat in it supposed to be chicken and veggies mostly it was just rice lol. When my husband and I stopped in for a quick dinner, we experienced so-so food with pretty bad service. This was especially surprising considering we were one of two couples in the entire restaurant. It took over 20 minutes for our appetizer to arrive (Siam Rolls...these were actually pretty good). My entree was delivered first with no comment from the waitress about when my husband's would arrive. In fact, she didn't speak much to us at all after she took our orders. When my husband's meal was finally delivered to the table, we were very short on time and he asked for the check and a couple of boxes. The waitress soon returned with both, wordlessly tossing the check at him. Had she been bustling around serving several tables this behavior would have been slightly more understandable, but she was spending her time sitting alone behind the front counter. We didn't eat much of our meals, but what we did eat was just okay. Definitely no where near good enough to overlook the poor customer service. We wound up throwing out our leftovers later that night. If you're looking for good Thai food, I recommend Taste of Thai in EL or Thai Princess in Okemos. We keep hoping to find good Thai food closer to our home on the west side, but so far that just hasn't panned out. read more

Honestly, 3.5 would probably be more accurate. Generally I wouldn't give a thai restaurant like this 4 stars, but in Lansing, this is the best place we've found so far. We went for dinner on a Monday night. My husband ordered the peanut curry and I got the pad see ewe. Our dishes came with a hot and sour soup, which I don't really like. However, they did not offer anything else as substitute. I tried the soup though, which I did not care for. My pad see ewe didn't have the flat noodles I'm used to, but the noodles in the dish were still wider and chewy. The sauce in the dish was sweet, but the chicken and broccoli weren't that great. The chicken seemed to be pretty low quality, and there were only a couple of pieces of broccoli in the entire dish (which was a fairly large portion). Overall, it was ok. The prices were reasonable, the portion sizes were very large, and the food was better than what we've had at other places. If you don't mind driving to Okemos, I would recommend going to Thai Princess, which seems to be much better (albeit more expensive) than places in Lansing. Otherwise, if you're picky or you're accustomed to really good thai food I can't guarantee you'll like this place. read more
