We arrived when they had just opened, and we were somewhat seated promptly. The place had a very strong fish sauce odor in the air, even with the side windows were all opened. We ordered: +Panang Curry - spicy red curry with coconut milk, kaffir lime leaves, bell peppers, basil leaves, and a choice of protein; we opted for tofu, which came already fried; the tofu had an off taste to them, as it was on the brink of being spoiled; the basil leaves or some type of ingredient in the curry made it had a strange perfume-like taste to it; the curry itself was thin in consistency, where I prefer it to be more thicker and creamier; the menu stated this was 'spicy', but it wasn't +Drunken Noodle - stir-fried wide rice noodles with chili, bell peppers, onions, and basil leaves in a spicy sauce; the noodles were overcooked and gummy; they all stuck together, which wasn't great; the flavor was kind of muted, and it wasn't that nice savory stir-fried taste that you look for in this dish; the sliced chili peppers did provide a kick +Thaisons Pad Thai - rice noodles with egg, tamarin sauce, bean sprouts, and crushed peanuts; this comes automatically with chicken and shrimp; the menu stated that 'scallions' were used in this dish, but they were Chinese chives; we asked for no cubed red tofu, which was noted on the server's pad, but the dish still came with; this was more fish sauce forward, as it was super pungent and almost difficult to eat; considering this was supposed to come both with chicken and shrimp, it was more like a chicken pad thai with just 2 shrimp, placed on top - we thought that this was kind of deceiving and lame Service was fine, but we could have been checked in more often throughout our dining experience. Disappointed in the food here given some good reviews I read! The place is cute inside and was small but busy on a weeknight. The service was sooo slow though. The food was very much average. I tried the duck roti app and the duck tasted off to me so I picked those pieces out. I also tried the pad Thai with chicken and shrimp and it was so dry! No flavor at all and the chicken was hard. They didn't apologize or even seem the least bit sorry about it. When we asked where the food was as it usually comes out at similar times for groups, the waiter snapped at us saying, "do you want to cancel?!" Um... no sir. We just want our food? And possibly at similar times since we came as a group and not 40 minutes between a batch? And perhaps a politer attitude towards your customers who have a right to ask where the food is? To make it worse, it's not like the food was great, you know? Look at my panang curry! I ate it because I was hungry and I'm paying for it, but for what I paid, I have many other (and better) thai restaurants I can choose from. Finally a cherry on top - they automatically included a service charge (18%) - not happy about it as they didn't deserve it, but for a group it's pretty standard so bleh whatever. MOO PING (4 SKEWERS) - 12 Each skewer was filled with deliciously marinated pork with a good amount of fat that made it extra flavorful. The flavors were mostly savory with a hint of sweetness. The chili sauce on the side gave it extra sweet flavor, and the sticky rice that came in a bamboo steamer. Overall, no complaints here. Definitely meant to be an appetizer, but I wasn't too hungry so this worked out for me. My friend got the DRUNKEN NOODLE WITH CHICKEN and the portion size here is definitely on the smaller end. He got medium spice, but I didn't even realize it was spicy based on the single wide rice noodle and chicken piece I tried. The special fried calamari is unique, not the typical calamari rings. Lightly breaded on a bed is sauteed green onion. Delicious! All entrees were good portions. Located in the previous space occupied by Tara Thai across the parking lot from the Whole Foods and on the opposite side of Leesburg Pike from Trader Joe's, sits this charming little establishment. It's fairly newly opened according to the sign outside so the interiors are nicely appealing. Unisex bathrooms as well. Very clean. The menu Is chocked full of all the Thai classics that you and I both love so there really aren't any surprises there. I had the seafood Drunken Noodle, and my colleague had Pad Thai. We split a chicken satay appetizer that came with a really nice peanut sauce and some mignonette sauce. The mignonette sauce addition was a unique copilot with the peanut sauce. Normally I dislike peanut sauce, but theirs was a lot smoother/sweeter than most others I've tasted and the perfect compliment. I wasn't really thrilled that my Drunken Noodle only had one jumbo shrimp in it, but it was still good nonetheless with the amount of chicken and pineapple cut pattern squid... And a good value for $17. I'll tell you what was worth the price of admission: Those drinks! $15 a pop. It took the server a while since she was also doubling as the bartender but when she came back not only was it a good size glass but it was potent. I was expecting those little tiny 6 to 8 oz tumblers most spots like to rip people off serving drinks these days - but not here. These felt like 12-16 oz glasses. Limited ice. Whoa. Baaaaay-bee!!! I had a decent buzz on that one drink. I'd come back here for the drinks alone. We both had a Mai Thai. I can't wait to go back and try some more of their $15 mixed drinks. Wasn't very crowded. My husband ordered an Old Fashioned to start with and I had a Thai iced tea. Papaya Salad: delicious and refreshing! Perfect amount of spice and crunch. Duck Roti: perfectly portioned bites and so tasty Panang Curry: the menu comes with beef but we prefer this curry with chicken so we asked to substitute. The curry sauce was the perfect amount of creaminess and spice. Drunken Noodle: Definitely a kick! Since this place opened and replace Tara Thai, we have ordered takeout at least 3 times and eaten in store once. We always always order the Moo Ping which is marinated pork skewers with a tangy tamarind sauce and sticky rice. It is HEAVENLY. The sauce is sour and sweet and perfectly balanced. The pork is juicy and delicious and everything goes so well with the sticky rice. We've also tried both the Thai and Laos papaya salad and both are good and spicy. The drunken noodles are pretty standard, but definitely a good plate of noodles. Finally, the pork belly kaprow is really good. It's not as saucy as I was expecting a kaprow to be but the pork belly is super crispy and crunchy. What I didn't like was the bathroom situation. After 5 months of being open, my wife and I finally decided to go try Thaisons tonight for dinner. We both love Thai food, so we were excited to try it. The interior is very nicely decorated, inviting and very clean. We were seated immediately and ordered an appetizer of fried tofu, one of our favorite Thai appetizers, which came quickly. Although we did ask for the spice rack with it to add flavor, which didn't come until we got our dinner. For dinner my wife ordered the special of the day, ground chicken krapow which comes with an egg on top, and I ordered the beef pad kapow. The highlight of the meal was my wife's chicken krapow! Wow! The egg had a super crisp on the outside, yet the yolk was perfectly runny when split open on top of the chicken. This was the special that night so it is not on the regular menu, but if it is available when you go I highly recommend it! The fried tofu appetizer is exactly as I expect, very typical of Thai restaurants. Tasty! My beef kapow was excellent, lots of flavor, spicy, and a good portion. Both our dishes were plenty spicy, which was good because some restaurants will tone down the spice level, but they rated this 2 Chile spice level, and it had plenty of spice which I love. Overall, a pleasant dinner out, some things were as expected, and others stood out, so overall I give it 4 stars. My favorite dishes are the crispy chive dumpling starter, thaisons pad thai, pad woonsen, Thaison tamarind shrimp, and pad see ew (I usually get it with pork - put a dash of the jalapeno vinegar and it is savory and tangy perfection). Their service has always been great. If I encountered any mishaps (e.g., there was one time where a dish tasted off) with my takeout order, I give them a quick call, and they've always provided the best customer service to amend the situation without any fuss. I haven't dined in here yet, so I can't speak to the waiting service, but if their dine in service is anything like their take out service, they are great! It's a big space that was very clean with a calm setting. I ordered takeout and waited less than 20 minutes for it . I ordered their garlic ribs which comes with white rice, and their pineapple fried rice (no nuts no raisins) and they did modify it for me . The ribs were juicy and full of flavor I enjoyed every bit. The pineapple fried rice also some of the best I've had . The rice was full of seasonings and the portion sizes are huge with big shrimps added in the rice. My total for both meals was about 37 dollars (a steal).
