Yum yum yum! Today was our first time at Thali and we loved it. The buffet was delicious - a nice assortment of dishes that were all fresh and tasty. I really enjoyed everything especially the chicken curry and tikka masala. My kids could have gobbled down all the Gulab Jamoon after lunch was done. Beyond the food being great, the service was great. The family that owns it is very friendly and welcoming. You can tell they have a lot of repeat customers which is always a great sign. I love this place. I have been here at least 5 times since "discovering" it a few months ago. The food and services are fantastic and affordable. My go to each time I am here on business are the Gobi Manchurian (one of the best I have had), chilli naan and chicken (or some other protein) curry. My 4 star rating is its overall yumminess when compared to restaurants in the Research Triangle. If I were to rate this restaurant in this area by my hotel, it'd be a 5 star given the limited options around here. read more

Delicious and authentic with the largest variety I've seen at an Indian restaurant. I had a northern Indian dish of creamed greens and cornbread, which was referred to as comfort food. Not super impressed, 3.5. We were a group of 4, went in to try the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. Turns out they only have buffet at that time. We decide to give it a shot anyway. 14$/person. The options for that price are far too few as compared to other Indian restaurants especially for vegetarians. The bread, butter paneer, butter chicken and Punjabi kadhi were really good. Biryani was a disappointment. The desserts took the cake :p. The best gulab jamun I've had in a while and the rice pudding was really good too. I went to this place with a lot of hope, but was left very disappointed. 1. For a place with the name "Thali", their Thali options are extremely limited. 2. We ordered "Mutton Sukha" for appetizer, it was hard and uncooked. Had to be returned. 3. Main course chicken dishes were below average and the breads were dry. To add to all of the above, service was slow. Ordered tea when i sat down, it was never served. Had to ask for everything twice. Overall extremely disappointed, if they have to survive in this area, with the number of Indian Restaurants, they will have to step up their game. read more

Small spot with great personaliy. Food is great. I ordered from the menu but like the owner told me, I missed out on the buffe. 2 small groups came in and everything I saw in their plates looked and smelled delicious. The service goes hand in hand with the great taste of the food. They continuously asked me how was everything. The owner even took the time to explain and show me a spice I found in my meal that had an interesting aroma and she brought it from the kitchen and showed it to me. The entrees are very good, lots of spice. I wish the price to portion ratio was a little better and the naan has been tough both times we have ordered from them. I went to have lunch there yesterday and I asked the lady for Butter Chicken. She told me that I could have the tikka masala it was the same thing. The tikka masala was good but not what I wanted. I got it off of the buffet. One scoop of rice and a little chicken because I didn't know if I would like it. The potatoes and cauliflower dish were great but again just a spoonful. I never get the buffet because I do not eat a lot. If I had gotten an order I could have at least not felt bad for having to pay $18 for $3 worth of food. The lady didn't even bring me a glass of water but a glass with a pitcher and set it on the table. Asking for a tip on top when you don't even get waited on??? Yeah not doing it again. There are a lot of great Indian food restaurants that do not require eating the buffet and serve butter chicken. read more

We needed to grab dinner before an airport drop off and came across this place sandwiched between a pizza place and a Greek place. We were very pleasantly surprised. Food was delicious. I ordered dinner yesterday the time of delivering the food was great but I was very disappointed with my order this time , the bread was cold ( old not fresh) I throw it a way . The Biryani was pretty good as far as the temperature and the taste , but it doesn't have enough rice I had to look for the rice between the chicken ... the chicken was more than the rice, the Sambosa was great but very little for the price. Went there last Sunday night with my wife. Nice place, strange food. I tried the Basil Curry Lamb and it was the strangest tasting dish I have ever eaten in an Indian restaurant. The lamb was chewy and the sauce was bland, to say the least. My wife's lamb rogan josh was the same. Bland and odd tasting. I very much suspect, from the consistency of the sauce, it was a reheated dish from their admittedly bland lunch buffet. I also think the owner/chef is probably not there on a Sunday night. Not for us, I'm afraid. BTW, thali means a steel plate, on which you food is served, meaning your food gets cold because the plate is freezing cold. read more

This place was packed so I knew it was going to be good. The whole staff (but especially the manager) was very hospitable and attentive. I'm not a vegetarian but I love their veggie options. The free naan bread was made fresh and it had a great texture and a great buttery flavor. Lots of options here. (We did the lunch buffet - $11.25 including tax w/ naan). Unfortunately, I will not be able to make back here very often, but my girlfriend's new job is around the corner so I expect her to take advantage of this great spot. I'll come when I can. read more

Went back to Thali and just as good this time. After eating at a good (but not as good) competitor in Durham - I have a theory about some of those mediocre reviews. Thali will not blow torch you with spice. Your eyes will not water profusely. You will not periodically stop talking to your dining companion to gulp water. And you will not feel like you slept, tongue side down, on a salt lick for the night. Perhaps this (in some diners' eyes) means Thali is "bland." This may be true for those who have a palette that has grown accustomed to such assault - I mean flavor. I love and adore intensely flavored food, but don't need to be flattened by it. Just my two cents, but this food measures up to Indian had in London, Houston's Ghandi District, NYC, and some talented Indian friends' home cooking. Clean. Outstanding, nuanced flavor. Great service. Lovely interior. High health rating. 5/5 Also - the management told me there is a Chapel Hill location coming. read more
