House special number 9 with broth on the side. Mix noodles. Extra crispy pork on side.
Hansel F.

This is the place for noodles and soup! I got the house special with the broth on the side , and the waitress recommended trying both noodles. Great decision. Asking for crispy pork on the side is a pro move as well! You can add extra spices as well, the house chili is a must try. I enjoyed the broth at my own pace and the noodles dry was a nice touch. Every bite was loaded and this meal hit the spot. The locals love it and I do as well. I will be back!

I know a lot of people love this place, but I think it's a little bit overrated. I got a wonton soup with duck and the broth was very bland and lacked flavor. Service was a little rude as well but I wouldn't really expect anything more. Hahaha. The place was packed And there was a little bit of a line. I'm willing to come back and try some more stuff on the menu, but based on what I had this place is pretty low on the totem pole of soup choices for me.

if you like new tung kee of the south bay, you'll love thanh ky. no frills, just a solid bowl of comfort soup. I order mine with egg noodles, shrimp, ground pork, bean sprouts, and extra pork skin. it always hits. only downside is the location can be a little sketch with the homeless loitering around but its manageable. service is quick.

This restaurant has been around for 30 yrs.(1994-95) & has been a long time favorite of my brothers. Service is fast, so don't be put off by crowds. Orders: #9 House Special Ho Fun noodle $13 a pho loaded with various meatballs & the broth is flavorful. My brother's go to pho. #13 Beef Satay Ho Fun $14 a nutty spicy pho noodle that had tender slices of beef & great flavor. Sometimes the ratio of satay to broth can be tricky, but Thanh Ky has created a nice balance. A reasonable bowl of pho that satisfies.

Have not been here for several decades. Had an errand to do around the neighborhood and decided to lunch here. Sure brought back memories of younger days as i walked in, the same folks that used to take my order is still here but aged. Same layout same tables and chairs? Exact same staff as it seems- wow such nostalgia. I ordered my usual, egg gravy with shrimp over ho fun. Food came out quickly and it was so good. Just like how it used to be if I remembered correctly.. haha Its been a while but good flavor is good flavor, i thoroughly enjoyed my dish, licked my plate clean :) Great to be back here after so many years, good food great memories. Love it! Thanks!

We visited Thanh Ky Cafe for an early brunch to beat the lunch rush. Since it's similar to another spot we frequent, we were confident the noodles would be good--and they did not disappoint! We ordered the #9 "House Special Ho Fun," which includes pork kidneys. The standout surprise was the addition of fried pork skin, adding a delicious crunch and depth of flavor to the dish. If you're in the area, it's worth stopping by. Just be aware that the surrounding neighborhood can feel a little sketchy--after all, it is Oakland--so take a few extra precautions. Overall, tasty food and a satisfying experience!

#47 House Special Crispy Noodles $15

O boy, Oakland. It has gotten really bad since the late 90's when I took a few classes at Laney College. Thanh Ky is known for hu tieu, chieu chau dry noodles. I opted to go for their #47 House Special Crispy Noodles $15 instead. This was delicious. So good. I asked them to make it a bit drier with less sauce. My personal preference is a more crispy noodles. Too much gravy will ruin this dish. Service was excellent. They speak Cantonese as well as other languages. The kitchen was fast. I was in and out in 30 minutes. This was a great meal. Thank you everyone at Thanh Ky.

I've been to Vien Huong and this place is way better. I don't get the hype about Vien Huong. Thanh Ky wins in flavor and price. My go to order is #1 with soup on the side. I get half egg noodles and half ho-fun. The bowl comes with shredded chicken, ground pork, shrimp, beef ball, pork ball, and fish cake. I get it without fish cake though. I also always order extra fried pork skin. The fried pork skin takes the meal to another level. Another thing I like about this place is they use my favorite sriracha. My favorite sriracha is a Thai brand that has a slight tangy sour flavor, which is different from the Huy Fong sriracha.

Chicken over rice

I can't believe it they always using the fried chicken from the days before (left over) and refried it to serve customers I have been eaten here over fifteen years I can tell how fresh it tasted and look like will never come back again

Delicious!

Simple and delicious! My favorite noodle soup spot for the past 25 years in Oakland.

Was in the mood for pho and decided we'd try someplace I haven't been before. I've had enough pho…read morealong the west coast to know what great pho should taste like and I haven't had the best luck in the Bay. So, the verdict? Extremely impressed. This is already on my top five list in a single visit. Went for the basics: beef pho, and salad roll with tofu. I was initially put off by the short menu and few options to add toppings (I didn't see any tendon or tripe for example), and worried it would be too bland or too sweet--but it was not. The broth was deeply flavorful and more savory. Meats were generous and meatballs were exceptional, maybe the best I've had. The basil and sprouts were garden fresh, and unusually, the rice noodles were exceptional, not at all soft or pressed together. I could genuinely taste the love here. It extended to the salad rolls which were generously portioned and used lightly fried tofu which I prefer. One additional note about the broth. It's a richer style than I normally like so I couldn't drink it to the last drop, but I can't fault its great flavor. The service was above average, with a spirited vibe. Loved everything, will be back to try more on the menu.

They've…read moreclearly put more thought into the decor and menu than you typically see at a traditional pho spot. We ordered the beef pho ($20), crispy spring rolls ($11), and beef carpaccio ($18). The pho was solid, with a clear, deeply flavored broth and noodles that were slightly al dente, which I personally enjoyed. That said, for $20, it didn't feel especially memorable. The crispy spring rolls were fine, but I prefer the ones I make at home, so I'd probably skip them next time. I was especially excited to try the Vietnamese beef carpaccio, and the presentation was beautiful. The beef was fresh, evenly sliced, and topped with baby greens, onions, crispy fried onions, and edible flowers. Unfortunately, the sauce leaned far too citrusy for my taste and overpowered the flavors I wanted to come through, such as fish sauce, vinegar, and sugar. I also think a little more fried onion and garlic would have made the dish more flavorful and satisfying. Overall, we had a decent meal with both highlights and misses. They also offer dishes like bánh khọt and bò lúc lắc, which may be worth trying on a future visit.

We ordered the tofu bahn mi, tofu, veggies and mushroom vermicelli and Vietnamese pancake with shrimp. They were all amazing. The tofu in the banh mi was stirred fried w/ mushrooms not fried like how I'm used to. So it was a little different but very tasty. My fiancé had the vermicelli bowl which he said was pretty good with all the stirred fried tofu, veggies and mushrooms. What was surprising the most was the Vietnamese pancake. It was so good that I would come back for just this appetizer. It has a crunchy texture on the outside, but the inside was so creamy. Wrap that with a lettuce and dip in the fish sauce and wow! My mouth was happy. Service here is top notch! The server was super attentive and he knew just when we needed more napkins and more water. Would definitely recommend and will be back soon for those pancake!

The prices were Great, I wanted to live this spot but it was not memorable. My Banh Khot search continues .

This is a fast place, table sharing, no room having place. If you're looking for a western style dining, it can become overwhelming. But, just embrace the speed and efficiency of this restaurant. Because once you are seated, you're served immediately to get you on the way. With service, don't expect tier 1 experience, but you'll get your water/tea. Savor it, don't assume they'll come back while you're still eating. Just saying! There's a few things on the menu that are must have.. 1. Chow Jew Ho Fun with soup on the side - the obvious that everyone orders. I like to get soup on the side, and then put about two tablespoons soup back into my noodle and add all the sauces! Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. I'm just a person who feels I can buy it from the banh mi shops and it taste the same. Lol I don't eat anything else here. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. The only problem I have is, it's so expensive now for a small bowl. So it makes me not want to come back, but at the same time, flavors are really good. You just would think with the amount of customers, the business thriving, you could at least keep the portion size the same as before..

We were informed there may be a Pri-fixe menu beforehand but that was not available that day either. We had no issues with that, but it would be preferable if they made sure they are able to offer the experiences that are available on the website. We ordered the wicked buns, Saigon give you wings, garlic noodle and the bo luc lac. The food was out very quickly. Wicked Buns: The wicked buns were quite good. Truly cannot go wrong with some fried bao buns! Chicken Wings: We really enjoyed the chicken wings as well. The fish sauce gives the wings a nice sweetness and makes them quite addicting. Garlic Noodles: The garlic noodles had a nice char flavor to it. We could see them set it on fire from the bar, although we felt that the garlic noodles could have had a bit more salt and garlic in them. The shrimp also tasted frozen but they were still good. Bo Luc Lac: We enjoyed the bo luc lac as well, it was cooked well and quite tender. It was very flavorful to the point it made us wish we had ordered the dirty rice with it. Cocktails: For drinks I asked the bartender what he recommended and offered to make me something. It wasn't off-menu, but he made the Pillow Talks which had gin, calamansi and egg white in it. It had a nice flavor profile and balance and creaminess to the drink. I also ordered the Pandanmonium which is a pandan old fashioned which I really enjoyed. The drinks were quite fairly priced as well which I really appreciated. Overall, I think the portion sizes can be a little small for the price, but the food is delicious and great. The drinks are also great and I would definitely come back for them!

I've tried quite a lot of bún chả, and I could detect the marginal increase in quality here compared to other places. The phở-nominal cocktails and fish sauce ice cream were also delectable. I loved the savory take on each, and since they're rarer finds, I was glad that Tay Ho had them on the menu.
