I have been wanting to try this spot for a while now. I got #6 hu tieu with soup inside, while my family got #7 with soup on the side. Everyone enjoyed their food. Our server was very friendly; he kept asking us if we needed refills for our water. I definitely will be back whenever I am in the area :)

The owner of the restaurant is very kind. It's a small shop located on a corner, and parking can be a bit difficult. Inside, the restaurant is clean and tidy, and the tables are well-maintained. I ordered: * Spring Roll with Chinese Sausages * Number 7 - HỦ TIÊU KHÔ (Dried Noodle with Soup on the Side) with shrimp, quail eggs, pork, and pork giblets * Number 18 - PHỞ ĐẶC BIỆT (Special Combo) with rare slices of steak, well-done brisket, flank, tendon, and tripe The food was very delicious. The owner even gave us two dipping sauces because there were two of us, and he checked frequently to see if we needed anything else. I especially enjoyed the Spring Roll with Chinese Sausages. Number 18 was also very tasty because the broth was flavorful. For Number 7, I forgot to ask them not to include the giblets, but when I ate it, it didn't have any strong smell and was perfectly fine. I also really liked the egg noodles--they weren't too soft and had a nice chewy texture. I will definitely come back next time. Food is excellent, and the service is the best!

My partner had just come from a surgery and wanted something light. She wanted Vietnamese soup and this restaurant was nearby and had good reviews. The neighborhood is a bit sketch, with sex workers strolling around adjacent streets, and we had to circle around the block a few times to find parking. We were able to be seated quickly as there wasn't a lot happening. Menu options are primarily soups, vermicelli based dishes with beef and seafood being the main protein options. After reviewing the menu we decided on the house special soups - #8 (meatball w/ rice noodle soup; chicken broth) and #9 (shrimp, quail egg, squid and fish ball). The soups were served with a side of fresh basil, sprouts and chopped jalapeño. Best to pop all of these items into your bowl for extra yumminess. Overall service was great and the soups were so good !

I recently ordered takeout from Lemon Pepper this past Friday. I went with the #7 -- dry noodles with soup on the side, which came with shrimp, quail eggs, ground pork, and pork giblets. My wife ordered the #26 -- grilled pork and egg cake with broken rice. The noodle bowl was solid--comparable to the one at Vien Huong, but without the long wait. For takeout, the soup, sauce, and hot sauce are all packed separately. Be sure to add everything in moderation, as the sauce can make the noodles overly salty, and the hot sauce is really spicy. I'd recommend tasting a bit first before mixing it in. The bowl has a good variety of ingredients, but it's a little tough to stir everything together. My personal pro tip is to flip it into a separate bowl so the ground pork ends up on top instead of being stuck at the bottom. I tried a bite of the pork chop from the broken rice dish and found it a little overcooked--neither juicy nor particularly tender. The cutlet was pretty thin, so I imagine it's easy to overcook. Overall, Lemon Pepper is a solid four out of five. I'd order from them again.

Came here with my friends and there was no wait to get seated here at noon on Saturday. Good: - The food was amazing- I was surprised how much I liked the Hu Tieu Kho - I've heard about how good it was from other reviews but didn't realize it was THAT good. The soup was amazing - the amount of saltiness was perfect. Get egg noodles and larger size! Well worth. - The prices and portion sizes are great - we got a ton of food for only $20 each - Super clean and modern interior inside Bad: - The place was in a fairly sketchy area but other than that the experience was pretty close to perfect Overall would come again, still thinking about the food today!

First time here based on recommendation from a friend. Hu Tieu Kho was delicious! Reminds me of the savory dry wonton noodles except that there's no wonton but there are quail eggs, fried pork skin, slices of pork, shrimp and pork giblets. Together with the beef soup, it hit the spot on a cold day. Cha Gio was crispy, and the filling was tasty. Some places have fried spring rolls that are on the mushy end and that tends to be very oily. But not here. Com Tam (broken rice) plate was yummy. The pork chop was tender and flavorful. The steam pork egg was excellent - many places serve this too but they tend to be dry. But it was juicy, tender and full of flavor here. Only thing that we didn't like here was their slice steak pho. It may be personal preference as the soup had a strong taste of a spice or herb that we are not used to and so it threw us off from the usual pho. Will be back for more Hu Tieu Kho, Cha Gio and Com Tam. Parking is tight and it's the part of Oakland where you have to be careful.

I got the #7, Hu Tieu Kho, as I would normally at another restaurant, and WHERE HAVE I BEEN??? THE FLAVOR WAS IMMACULATE. I got it with egg noodles, and I loved my food so much! The serving size was generous. The service was attentive. I wish parking was easier in this area, because I cannot shut up about how good my food was!

Top favorite for Hu Tieu Kho - dry. You have to get it with the egg noodles. The regular sized bowl is big enough for two to share, along with some apps, but you can upgrade to a Large for a few bucks more. The bowl is packed with all the goodies like quail eggs, pork skin, and hella meat. I could do without the lettuce but it's just a couple pieces anyways. The sauce on the noodles is so good, but you can add more from the condiments on your table. The chili oil is one of my favs, hella flavor. You get a bowl of soup on the side which you can sip on or add in to your dry noodles to help loosen things up so you can mix, mix, mix! The eggrolls here are good but they're skimpy af with the nuoc mam (fish sauce dip). The shrimp/pork spring rolls are nice and thiccccc here, but I noticed they also have chinese sausage spring rolls as well. Would def get these as a little side dish to go along with my noodles. We had a nice juicy coconut juice but they didn't open the coconut for us to eat the inside. I'm sure they would have had we asked, but it would have been nice to have it pre-done. The menu here isn't big. It's also a small space inside, with street parking only. The staff is nice enough but was hard to flag someone down for water refill.

2025 November - still awesome! Everyone is sitting around the table being quiet enjoying the food, the service at the restaurant is as friendly and as ever and the restaurant itself is still the cute clean quaint place it always has been. I'm so happy they're back!

Amazing hủ tiếu khô! The noodles were flavorful with fresh shrimp, squid, quail eggs, and crispy pork. The sauce was rich and perfectly balanced. I also loved the friendly service and the complimentary iced tea -- so refreshing! Great portions, clean space, and overall a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!

If you're in Oakland and craving a comforting bowl of pho, Lemon Pepper is the spot. A must add, is their homemade chili oil, it adds a spice that blends and tastes amazing for the spicy lovers. From the moment you walk in, the cozy and welcoming atmosphere makes you feel like you're stepping into a warm hug. It's the kind of place where you want to linger a little longer, sip slowly, and just enjoy the moment. But what really sets this place apart--beyond the rich, flavorful broth and perfectly balanced dishes--is the owner. You can genuinely feel the love and pride poured into every detail, from the food to the service. They're not just running a business--they're building a community. Warm, attentive, and always ready with a smile or a great recommendation, the owner makes you feel more like a guest in their home than a customer. Lemon Pepper is a gem--comforting food, kind people, and a space that just feels good to be in. I can't wait to come back.

With my luck, my car would smell like hello kitty for weeks. Anyhow, I found Mẹ Và Con on yelp, a mother-daughter owned resto that opened in 2024. They serve bánh khọt and have outdoor seating so we headed over. Thankfully, we arrived before the Sunday dinner rush (~5:45 pm) and before the parking lot was filled. Rezzies are accepted (via phone). M E N U Viet Cuisine with some elevated, modern twists (no specific regional specialty). Smaller menu than your typical hole-in-the-wall with 25-30 items including AZN fusion items like shrimp ceviche, kimchi pasta and tom yum pasta. Beer, wine, and soju cocktails available. F O O D * Bò Tái Chanh: Beef Carpaccio w/ Thai basil, fried shallot, house tangerine sauce ($18): https://tinyurl.com/nhcn9kxw - Served at dinner only Fresh, tender slices of beef carpaccio with a sweetness from the tangerine sauce and white onions. I appreciate their twist (tangerine sauce instead of nước chấm) but it was too one note for me...IMO, it needed acid and herbs. Plus, I miss the texture of peanuts. * Bánh Khọt: Viet Mini Pancakes w/ shrimp, coconut milk batter, herbs, pickles ($24): https://tinyurl.com/34nx7sat - Served at dinner only Fav dish of the night, the savory bánh khọt was delicately crispy and slightly custardy in the center with a snappy shrimp drizzled with fragrant scallion oil. It came with romaine, mint, and perilla leaves neatly layered for easy wrapping. The lettuce was a bit soft and soggy tho, and I think they forgot the pickled veggies. Served with a tiny portion of tangy sweet nước chấm. * Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ soy, garlic, onion, cherry tomato, arugula ($26): https://tinyurl.com/3rkpukct Meltingly tender cubes of filet mignon but light on the seasoning and aromatics so it was bland. Also, was hoping for more smoky wok hei flavor. * Thịt Kho Tàu: Braised Pork Belly w/ hard boiled eggs, rice ($21): https://tinyurl.com/mr2evryw - Includes bowl of rice A traditional dish served during Lunar New Year, it symbolizes prosperity, warmth, and stability. Chunks of pork belly are caramelized in sugar and braised in coconut soda and fish sauce - rich, savory with a good ratio of lean meat to fat (4 pieces). Wish they used more braising liquid when warming up, as some pieces were a bit dry. S E R V I C E Warm, friendly hospitality. Food does take awhile tho...our first dish took about 30 minutes to arrive. A M B I A N C E Casual, no-frills indoor area with about 10-12 tables. Cute covered patio in the parking lot with 5 tables and fairy lights. Overall, Mẹ Và Con is a great place to introduce people that are new to Viet cuisine and/or you're looking for Viet dishes with different twist.

This is a fast place, table sharing, no room having place. If you're looking for a western style dining, it can become overwhelming. But, just embrace the speed and efficiency of this restaurant. Because once you are seated, you're served immediately to get you on the way. With service, don't expect tier 1 experience, but you'll get your water/tea. Savor it, don't assume they'll come back while you're still eating. Just saying! There's a few things on the menu that are must have.. 1. Chow Jew Ho Fun with soup on the side - the obvious that everyone orders. I like to get soup on the side, and then put about two tablespoons soup back into my noodle and add all the sauces! Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. I'm just a person who feels I can buy it from the banh mi shops and it taste the same. Lol I don't eat anything else here. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. The only problem I have is, it's so expensive now for a small bowl. So it makes me not want to come back, but at the same time, flavors are really good. I've tried quite a lot of bún chả, and I could detect the marginal increase in quality here compared to other places. The phở-nominal cocktails and fish sauce ice cream were also delectable. I loved the savory take on each, and since they're rarer finds, I was glad that Tay Ho had them on the menu. Also notable is that even though we came early, there were already a substantial amount of diners and the place was busy, which is a good sign this place delivers the goods. They're only open Friday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., so I finally made the trip out on a Friday and arrived around 9:30 a.m. It was already fairly busy, and it only got more packed while I waited for my order so I would strongly recommend getting there before 9 a.m. or phoning your order in ahead of time. I ordered 4 sandwiches total, and it took somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes for everything to be ready, but both the #2 Special Combo Ham and the #13 Meatball and Egg were absolutely fantastic and well worth the wait. The #2 is how I benchmark a good banh mi, and this place really delivered. The pate was out of this world, the sandwich was piled high with delicious cold cuts, loaded with perfectly pickled veggies and jalapeños, and stuffed into a roll that had the perfect balance of a crisp exterior and pillowy interior. The #13 seemed to be a popular choice as well and for good reason. It had all the same great attributes as the #2, but with the pate and cold cuts replaced by a sweet and savory crumbled meatball paired with a perfectly soft boiled egg. It was every bit as satisfying and delicious and had such a different flavor profile to the #2, which I really appreciated. It is not in the best neighborhood and the hours are painfully tight, especially if you want to avoid a long wait, but the end product is absolutely worth it, in my opinion. And at $6 to $7 per sandwich, the value is still a good value, even if it is a far cry from the $4-6 range that it seemed to hover in for a long time.

The ratio of bread to meat to pickled vegetables was not great. The pate, which I usually love, was also off and had an unusually strong unpleasant smell. The only thing that made the sandwich edible was the bread itself. It was fresh light and airy as I remember it to be. I hope they will focus and maintain quality in the future. I regretted spending $65 there for food I was afraid to feed my family.
