I went to Lemon Pepper on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant was fairly busy. We ordered the hu tieu kho (#7) and pho dac biet (#17). i highly recommend the hu tieu with egg noodles; the noodles were covered in a light sauce that had a lot of depth. A decent variety of protein in both dishes as well. Overall atmosphere was very warm and cozy due to the kindness of the server who refilled our water many times. The neighborhood is a bit sketch, with sex workers strolling around adjacent streets, and we had to circle around the block a few times to find parking. We were able to be seated quickly as there wasn't a lot happening. Menu options are primarily soups, vermicelli based dishes with beef and seafood being the main protein options. After reviewing the menu we decided on the house special soups - #8 (meatball w/ rice noodle soup; chicken broth) and #9 (shrimp, quail egg, squid and fish ball). The soups were served with a side of fresh basil, sprouts and chopped jalapeño. Best to pop all of these items into your bowl for extra yumminess. I recently ordered takeout from Lemon Pepper this past Friday. I went with the #7 -- dry noodles with soup on the side, which came with shrimp, quail eggs, ground pork, and pork giblets. My wife ordered the #26 -- grilled pork and egg cake with broken rice. The noodle bowl was solid--comparable to the one at Vien Huong, but without the long wait. For takeout, the soup, sauce, and hot sauce are all packed separately. Be sure to add everything in moderation, as the sauce can make the noodles overly salty, and the hot sauce is really spicy. I'd recommend tasting a bit first before mixing it in. The bowl has a good variety of ingredients, but it's a little tough to stir everything together. My personal pro tip is to flip it into a separate bowl so the ground pork ends up on top instead of being stuck at the bottom. I tried a bite of the pork chop from the broken rice dish and found it a little overcooked--neither juicy nor particularly tender. The cutlet was pretty thin, so I imagine it's easy to overcook. Overall, Lemon Pepper is a solid four out of five. I'd order from them again. read more

Reminds me of the savory dry wonton noodles except that there's no wonton but there are quail eggs, fried pork skin, slices of pork, shrimp and pork giblets. Together with the beef soup, it hit the spot on a cold day. Cha Gio was crispy, and the filling was tasty. Some places have fried spring rolls that are on the mushy end and that tends to be very oily. But not here. Com Tam (broken rice) plate was yummy. The pork chop was tender and flavorful. The steam pork egg was excellent - many places serve this too but they tend to be dry. But it was juicy, tender and full of flavor here. Only thing that we didn't like here was their slice steak pho. It may be personal preference as the soup had a strong taste of a spice or herb that we are not used to and so it threw us off from the usual pho. Top favorite for Hu Tieu Kho - dry. You have to get it with the egg noodles. The regular sized bowl is big enough for two to share, along with some apps, but you can upgrade to a Large for a few bucks more. The bowl is packed with all the goodies like quail eggs, pork skin, and hella meat. I could do without the lettuce but it's just a couple pieces anyways. The sauce on the noodles is so good, but you can add more from the condiments on your table. The chili oil is one of my favs, hella flavor. You get a bowl of soup on the side which you can sip on or add in to your dry noodles to help loosen things up so you can mix, mix, mix! The eggrolls here are good but they're skimpy af with the nuoc mam (fish sauce dip). The shrimp/pork spring rolls are nice and thiccccc here, but I noticed they also have chinese sausage spring rolls as well. Would def get these as a little side dish to go along with my noodles. We had a nice juicy coconut juice but they didn't open the coconut for us to eat the inside. I'm sure they would have had we asked, but it would have been nice to have it pre-done. I've been eyeing Lemon Pepper for some time, and recently, my partner mentioned cravings for noodle soup. Perfect opportunity to try LPVC! We arrived, and took about 5 minutes to look for street parking. We entered the store around 11:30 or so, and it was cuter than I was expecting. There were some nice decor and I liked the interior paint colors. We were quickly served and the food came out within 8-10 minutes. We ordered #9 & #10 and both hit the spot. I ate #9 and everything was delicious. The eggs were cooked perfectly and every component was 10/10. Delicious. I tried the broth from #10 and it was so delicious. My partner really enjoyed it. We left satisfied and look forward to returning! They had a sign that they will be temporarily closed part of august 2023 through November 2023. Me and my bf are regulars here!! We always get the bo kho with rice noodles to go. I have tried the beef sate as well but still prefer the bo kho. The owners are two guys, they tell us they make a certain quantity of beef stew and will have until they sell out. That's the only item I get here and it's always so good. The broth is seasoned to perfection where it's not too salty or bland. The big chunks of chuck roast beef is so tender that you can break it apart wit your chopsticks. Today was our first time dining in since we always just do takeaway. The service here is amazing, they start you off with either hot tea or ice water. They also have condiments on the table if you would like to dress up your noodle soups. Literally one of the best hu tieu in East bay if not the whole bay area that I have ever had. The sauce is heavenly, their chili paste/ chili oil is pretty spicy so beware. The broth is soooo good, taste very clean but also very flavorful. The toppings is very generous. I got take out but they were very friendly. Very nice people. Food 10/10, service 10/10. The restaurant itself is very cute and pretty clean comparing to other local Vietnamese restaurant. Parking is a pain though. Limited parking in a pretty unsafe part of Oakland. The BEST Hieu Tieu. I'm a regular here and the food is always so amazing and consistent. I've been to Vietnam a couple times and this hieu tieu is definitely comparable. The orange juice is always the perfect amount of sweetness and you can taste that is freshly squeezed. Such an unrated gem! We came across Lemon Pepper through Yelp and decided to give it a go based on the five star rating. When browsing the Yelp reviews and pictures, they had a few menu items that I've never seen before so this definitely piqued my interest. We called Lemon Pepper close to noon to place an order for pick up. I don't think they have a website to order online. Our order would be ready in about 15 minutes. For a party of three we got 1) Hu Tieu Kho, 2) Pho Dac Biet, and 3) Banh Mi Bo Kho. I just happen to be introduced to Beef Stew with French Bread yesterday, thanks to YouTube, so when I saw this as a selection, I wanted to give this a try. I'm kind of surprised I don't see this at other Vietnamese restaurants as much (not to my experience/knowledge anyway). Parking is a little hard to find around here and the streets aren't the most easy to navigate around, but Lemon Pepper is located right at the corner, so it's really easy to spot! We took our order back home to eat and everything was still relatively hot when we got home. My French bread stayed crispy on the outside and my soup was warm. The soup is deliciously flavorful and not heavy. There were plenty of beef chunks in my stew and these were tender bites! The bread by itself is already nice. It's crispy on the outside, but oh so soft and fluffy on the inside. I'm totally cool with plain bread, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea. Once dipped in soup, the crust softens, but it still retains its texture enough that it's not soggy. This bread does a good job at soaking up the flavors of the broth. This was such an enjoyable stew I pretty much finished the whole thing. From taste testing my sister's Hu Tieu Kho, it was quite enjoyable too. I may just opt to get dry noodles next time! My brother enjoyed his Special Combo as well. The broth was slightly sweet and he said it's different from other places, but still good. I think Lemon Pepper has some unique items compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. I'll be sure to swing by again when I'm around the area! Excited to give them another go. read more
