I came here on a whim since I desperately needed a trim and wanted to support a local business, but wow... big mistake. I specifically asked for a blunt cut and instead got a choppy, uneven mess. The moment she said, "Oh just straight hair cut, no layers,yess should be easy for me," I should've run out of that chair. On top of that, the whole experience was uncomfortable she kept asking intrusive personal questions I didn't want to answer, and overshared about how she's a bus driver full-time and only does hair in the summer (which definitely explained the quality of the cut). Honestly, I don't know why I even left a tip. Save yourself the regret this place is a hard pass. read more

Still my favorite place to get my hair cut, now a comb over lol. Price has doubled but well worth it. Edgar and the ladies do a great job! I've never waited more than 20 minutes if they're busy maybe 30 max. The vibe is nice, they have music playing in the background and it's always clean. I always walk in, write my name on the list and I'm usually out within 30-40 minutes and that's what I love about this place. read more

It's unprofessional. You need to agree to a price and be clear that they_stick_to_the_price. They are nice but it's 3rd-world. I called ahead and got one price and was charged 40% more in person, and I treated it as a tip after arguing a bit. They will try to manipulate you into paying more than you agreed, chatting about school buses and extra-marital homes, providing extra services that you didn't ask for. It is emotional. Notice also that the prices aren't posted-- so if they think you can pay more, they will try to get you to pay more. Honestly, if you're used to that, fine. I would say this location seems pretty cool. Small but comfy and welcoming which is huge! My hair dresser was Edgar who's so informative on hair care, gave me recommendations for vitamins to help my hair , and it benefits skin and nails. Edgar is going to be my new hair guy!! Got my hair done here a week ago or so. I walked in- no appointment and they greeted me and helped me by allowing me to get my hair done the same day. My hair was discolored - they fixed the color and did my hair lights. I was there for two hours and I spent about 200. I had great conversation with Lillian as she fixed my hair. I've been getting my hair cut done here for many years now and the reason that keeps me coming back is the great atmosphere, the great service, their skilled barbers and their fair prices. The fact that I don't have a favorite barber in this establishment had allowed me to try almost every one that works here and every single time I come home satisfied with my hair cut. I needed a haircut badly as the bleached parts of my hair had started to have a greenish hue to them and were dried up and full of split ends. I found this place through yelp and gave them a call asking if I could come in for a hair cut and they told me there were free and I could just walk in! When I got there I was immediately seated and and asked by Edgar how I wanted my hair done and I showed him some pictures of what I wanted along the lines. He was super nice and fun to talk to! Also he made sure to let me check every so often if I wanted more of my hair cut off which I really appreciated! Also he showed me how my hair would look without product before finishing up by styling my hair (my hair is naturally extremely straight so this was a big part for me usually my friends have been "scammed" in other places getting their hair curled without even being able to check if they were satisfied yet). The price came out to be $20 and I had a good 5 inches of hair chopped off. Definitely would come again and ask for Edgar! Not very impressed in greeting nor assumption concerning changing hair color.. by whoever the stylist was..

I went in on a Monday and was greeted right away. A lot of places don't even acknowledge people when they walk in so I felt welcomed. I asked about the price and Edgar said $15 to $20 for a haircut. My hair is of medium length, price was $15. He asked me what I wanted and I told him a trim with about half an inch cut off. Throughout the entire service, he kept me engaged in conversation and he would periodically ask me if what he was cutting off was what I wanted.. he did an amazing job and he fixed my side bangs (which I had unskillfully cut myself lol). My hair felt and looked much healthier after the haircut. He even curled my hair! It was a great experience and I will be coming back! read more

I have come back multiple times now since my initial review, and I can't applaud the hair salon more. They have renovated since my first visit, so the interior is a lot nicer now and seems more roomy. I recommended my brother to get his haircut (he's also new to the area) so at first he was a bit hesitant since he doesn't know the barbers. However, he was seated instantly, and the barber seemed to have read his mind! Within 10 min, my brother was done and was super pleased with his cut. The barber even styled his hair afterwards without prompting. His haircut cost $14 excluding tip. Brother is excited to come back in the future as this has become his go-to salon with barbers he can trust. read more

Grace (I believe this is her name) did a wonderful job cutting my hair. I was greeted with a smile when I came in which made me stay since I knew the wait for a haircut was going to take a while. I have been going to the same barber for the past 6 years and I never had to tell him what cut I wanted since he already knew. However, since I am 400 miles away from home and was desperately in need of a haircut, I decided on coming to this place. Coming in, I didn't know anything about 1's, 2's, 0's and whatnot but Grace was extremely patient with me. It was about 20 minutes after they closed and I was indecisive about the length of the top of my head, so I asked her if she could trim it down a bit more (even after she had finished the top). I was expecting an annoyed response, but she smiled and said no worries at all! If I had one feedback though, I wish that she kept me facing the mirror. Half the time, I was facing either the side wall or the lady behind me. I am very pleased about how patient Grace was for me and am thankful that she did not rush my haircut even though they were far into closing. Well I had scheduled an appointment with Rocio I had told her I wanted highlights and lowlights she had seen my hair prior to my appointment and said it would be $180 my hair is 8 inches off shoulder when I arrived and she asked me what 2 tones I wanted she said that if I want. Blonde on the lower half of my head and l would have to pay $250 I then asked her well you said $180 when she saw my hair for lowlights and highlights mage the came back and said she could not do my hair I believe they don't know how to do a hair color with highlights and lowlights Rocio had extensions in her hair I gave them one star but they don't deserve any thy can only do a one color touch up which any one can do at home don't go there they want to over charge don't know how to do their job I wonder if they are licensed to do hair color read more

Did not like my hair cut, even my gf noticed how bad it was when I got home , also they ask if I wanted a hair cut with a razor or scissors when I sat down , never been to one where they ask you but did notice they charge different prices. I would give this place more starts if I could. I've never gone to a salon by myself, let alone one I've never been to before. I was greeted and sat down INSTANTLY. No wait at all, he asked me what I wanted and did exactly that. I was nervous the whole time and felt he was cutting too much or in places he shouldn't be but when he was done? I didn't get a haircut here... but I came here with my boyfriend last sunny Saturday. It was hard to find a cheap haircut place near UCR on Yelp, which is why I decided to review this place :) Since I'm a female who is still pretty unfamiliar with where many things are in Riverside, I had to ask a friend who referred me to Thania's. When I first walked in the hair salon, I felt very out of place as everyone in the room was Hispanic. Of course that's no big deal, it was just sort of a first impression sort of thing. After about a 10 minute wait, my boyfriend was able to get his cut from a young lady-- I didn't catch her name since I was sitting and reading magazines the whole time. But she seemed very friendly as she conversed with my boyfriend. The cut took about 15-20 minutes, and it was only $8 for a men's cut. I believe it's not that much more for women, but I would be hesitant about trying it out...[[unless maybe it was just for a small trim]]. Overall, my boyfriend seemed very satisfied about his haircut, and I like it too :) Thania's Hair Salon is quick, cheap, and the end result was pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that there actually is such a thing as a good $10 hair cut. This is coming from a girl who only let one hair dresser cut my hair for nearly three years at the price of $60, so we're talking expert level fancy salon where they give you tea and a scalp massage. Since I moved to Riverside and am now on a budget, I had to find a new place and also a place that does it for much less than $60. The lady who cut my hair was very friendly, she listened to what I was going for. I mean for once when I said my side bangs were heavy and needed to be lighter she knew what I meant. Who would of thought a request like that would confuse people before? But this lady got it! She asked questions about lengths as she cut my hair, there was constant communication which is a good thing. It shows she cares about her job and what she is doing. Overall nice place. Only wish is that Lilly would have only cut 1/2 inch and not what she thought would be best. My hair takes forever to grow and I have been doing really well on how I cut it. Also she was the only that kept saying my hair was super dry. My hair lady and everyone else always compliments my hair. I did explain to her that I only wanted 1/2 inch and kept expressing to her that. My layers are nice but they do make me look a bit older. Wish she would have asked me if i wanted front layers. I think she got excited and just wanted my hair to be healthy even though it was. Going to stick with my hair lady and I should have waited haha but got so anxious to trim my hair. Came in the shop about 1215 and no one greeted me so I went ahead and sat down on the waiting chairs. After the 1st barber was done he sat down and played with his phone so i waited for the 2nd barber to be done. When the 2nd barber was done he just went ahead and sat right next to his parnltner and had a conversation. What a waste of time. I was hoping for a positive experience because of yelp. If you go to this place it's really small so they could clearly see me. An acknowledgement would be nice. Left at 1252. I can only speak about my experience from those two guys. This little salon is tucked behind the Dollar Tree building off Chicago and University. Sometimes they're super busy, but I've been coming here semi annually for about 4 years now. I got here just in time and I still had to wait. The wait was awkward since I've never been to a men's and women's hair salon. It's been 15 mins waiting. Let's see how this goes....... My boyfriend has been getting his haircuts here for awhile now, he always goes to the lady with the curly hair. She's really good! They've only messed up a couple times, not too bad, it was just something he didn't like. But also it was someone different. I also have gotten a few haircuts here, usually trims. Graciella is AMAZING!! I've never had anyone else cut my hair from here but since I found Graciella about 4 years ago, I won't let anyone cut my hair. It's a super cheap price whether it's a wash, cut, and style for $15 or a color job. I always give Gracie a little freedom and give her an idea of what I want but never tell her exactly. She never fails me. Recently I went to her to go from long hair to a short a-line cut and I got a huge amount of compliments and was very pleased with the result. No appointment needed. I came in to get a shorter cut, but the ladies seemed scared about messing my hair up. They constantly asked if I wanted it shorter and that's nice and all, but it kind of got annoying. So I just said that it was good enough and let them make any finishing touches. The sign had read $12-$15 for a girl's cut. I ended up paying $18. They asked me if the extra charge for using card was okay.....AFTER it was swipe. I mean, I guess.. What am I suppose to do now.. My cut was okay. I think it helps that I'm not super picky, because one side ended up shorter than the other lol. One lady cut one half, then another lady came up and did the other half as the other went for lunch. My friend got a short male cut and he said that everything went smoothly for him. I, too, got the douchebag vibe from a certain Edgar, but I'm not all that judgmental, or at least I try not to be. But I've only gotten my hair cut by him once and it turned out fine! The other times it has been the lovely ladies. They all work really well and make conversation with you if you're not too shy to talk. Being a Spanish-speaker facilitated the conversation but I'm sure you can do it too if you try! This is my go-to place for haircuts when I'm in Riverside because it's affordable for a college student like myself. I've gone to Arcade in downtown but that's too far, so Thania's also has a conventionality to it. After I moved into the UCR area in 2015 I needed to find a new place to get my hair cut and found Thania's Hair Salon. After almost 3 years of coming here all I can say is this place is filled with talented hair stylists. I have gotten my haircuts with almost every single person there and they all do a magnificent job and are very charismatic. I went in for a long pixie cut with shorter bangs. What I got was essentially the exact opposite: a short pixie cut with long bangs. My hair was almost to my shoulders when I went in, so it was certainly long enough for the cut I requested. I showed the stylist the picture of what I wanted multiple times and she said she could do it. The cut is very nice in itself, and once my hair grows back out, it'll probably be close to what I asked for.
