This used to be a YMCA but it looks like an old church with dark wood flooring, high ceilings and stained glass windows. A very cool venue. How did it sound? Loud. Extremely loud. They also had a huge video board which gave each band a little extra hot sauce. There were a couple of bars in the back and you could also order food. It's air conditioned in there but between the heat (100+ outside at the time) and the amount of bodies inside, it was at least bearable. Mosh for Youth was great as always and while I loved the DIY ethos in the past this felt like a leap forward. The sound, look and venue made this feel big time. I hope future MFY shows take place here...until they maybe outgrow this place too, which would mean more scholarships for the kids. Highly recommended!

My husband, who is 6'3", was extremely uncomfortable because his knees kept knocking into the metal seat in front of him, so he had to angle his leg into my space just so he wouldn't cramp. While that was the case, I appreciated the ushers clearing the aisles by having all the other attendees move back into their seats (folks spilled out into the aisle to get more room to dance). It made going to the bathroom easier. Without these ushers, it would've been utter chaos. I hope they can update their seating because it's a basic component of a concert-goer's experience. Oh man, this place was hilarious. If you're an overweight OMD fan who just can't progress past your high school days in the 80's, this place is for you. It reminded me of that messed up bar in Star Wars. "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy." There were ex gangsters in wheelchairs, ladies that were the size of an excommunicated planet, and enough aqua net to pose both a serious threat to the ozone and the fire code. Everyone was walking around with these over-sized margarita goblets with an LED light that both made the drinks look extra tacky and leached trace amounts of BPA into the drinks of people that arguably have no extra grey matter to spare. In any case, if you're going her as a first timer, I'd strongly consider if this is the venue for you. The staff is pretty grumpy, too, and the security guards are all feckless, closet cases. Most likely ex jocks that really miss bullying small ESL kids. Most everyone in here looks like they're still paying off their crushing student loans to poser school. read more

I had an amazing experience from the minute I stepped on the asphalt of their parking lot and entrance. I was smoking and the bouncer very very politely informed me of where the smoking section was. Which i thought was very cool they had that even though it was clearly outside. Then I was carded and treated like a vip from the start. BTW don't be cheap . Get the vip section. It's worth it. I tried tipping the bonucer and he would not take it. He instead wanted me to inform his manager what a good job he was doing which I gladly did. I not once had to wonder where my waiter was. Ut felt like if he was just there for me and my group. The Selena look alike sang amazing the music was very good and the staff is what made it better . My friends and I were so excited to check out That '80s Bar. The place was filled with bright neon colors and featured the best music playing. It was a lot of fun just walking in and seeing all the decorations. We found a spot and went to get some drinks. The bartender seemed a bit busy, so it took a while to get our order in. The drinks were tasty, but they felt pretty expensive for what they were. It also became extremely crowded later in the night, which made it difficult to move around and enjoy the space. Overall, it was a fun night because of the music and the feel of the place. But the slow service and the high prices kept it from being a five-star night. This is a definitely a thumbs down. Get Bar Rescue in there ASAP. The bar area is gross dirty glasses nats, bugs flying around the bottles. The bartenders dropped most of the alcohol out of the glass then in the glass but they make up that loss by overcharging for the drinks. They charge additional for vip which is just a platform a bit higher than the dancefloor with a flashlight cop standing at one end to make sure you paid the additional fees for the paper wristband. The bathrooms don't just don't. This place is supposed to take you back to the 80s maybe they need to ask somebody about 80s music. OSHA is gonna love this place. We get wristbands and assigned a table. We were told to wait in another line but we were let in shortly after. We bypass the 80's bar and go to a back room to make it feel like a "speakeasy." They gave us some ground rules and led us to our tables. At the table you have a QR code where you can place drink orders. The bar brings out your drinks to the table. Service was fairly quick and friendly. The drinks were all sweet cocktails and in the "Matterhorn Lodge" theme. There is a 2 drink minimum purchase (per guest) and each drink is $20+ so it can add up. I'm more of a beer person but some of the drinks were delicious. There was one that tasted like Christmas morning (cinnamon, clove, milky) and another drink that had popping boba that was also fun. If you're a butterfinger or peanut butter fan, there was one drink that tasted like it (you'll see it on the drink menu). I wouldn't say the drinks were strong. They do a good job of enforcing the theme. They had a "Yeti" come out and interact with the tables. Good for photo ops. They also had a magician doing a few tricks, and I enjoyed that the most. The place was kept fairly chilly! Even the bathrooms had jokes and signage on the walls that alluded to the alps. Overall a great time. Small venue but pretty chill. Can be pricey. Take a sweater. Good for dates and small groups.

The staff was friendly enough and the novelty factor is definitely there, but the drinks missed the mark. Located on a section of Pomona with numerous clubs and bars Characters sticks out as it's on the end and the sign is easy to see. As I walked in I was expecting a greasy dive bar with sticky floors and garbage lighting. No! Total opposite. Very clean and the crowd was cool. Pool tables were pushed to the side and the stage was nice and high. Sound was phenomenal and of course the bands were awesome. It's 21+ so keep that in mind if you're interested in an upcoming show. Characters was the total opposite of what I was expecting. At least indoors it's a great place to see a show. It checks all the boxes for what I'm looking for and I'd go back 100%. Other than the occasional photo, I found the house and electronic music non-existent on Daft Punk v. Crystal Castles night. There was some dancing, but the Flyway photographers regularly interrupted it to snap photos of people posing as if they were having fun. One star for trying too hard in ironic and sad fashion.

Pricing is fair and even if you don't go on Thursday there are a lot of people that like playing pool there they even have a white board where people put there names to play pool next great system. Drinks are good could not get a pina colada there but did get a tequila sunset. Prices are good.

But I came here with a friend and my Bartender Candice made it feel really welcoming and she makes the best drinks and I had the gray goose and cranberry juice and she made it just right with her. I highly recommend her and this place. She even played some love songs for me and it brought me back to my 80s. Love her. Ty Candice that ginger bitch.

The Haven is a 125 capacity space with brick walls and wood laminate floors. It's a pretty cool picture when you walk in. The Haven used to host all sorts of music but in recent times they've dialed back on hosting hardcore punk shows because people can't control themselves. But if you're interested in all sorts of alternative bands there's still something here for you. Absolutely no alcohol on premises but you can get water. Security is pretty cool and aren't afraid to kick folks out for acting a fool. Parking is anywhere you'd park if you were going to the Fox or Glass House. The Haven is an awesome venue and I hope they start to host hardcore punk shows more often but I don't blame for putting down a pause. That said the sound is real good and it's an awesome place to see your favorites up close. Check their IG for upcoming events if this sounds like your vibe. Highly recommended!

Admittance…read moreinside is very straightforward--tickets are cheaper online in advance, and can be paid for more at the door--the sound system is strong, there is food around the area, and the people are very willing to help. I started coming here April of this year and will never stop coming back to see shows here. The Haven is like a second home!!
