The biggest issue here are the dog owners who do not control their aggressive dogs and the fact there has been health issues passed onto dogs from the watering area. Is not recommend this location, especially for timid or young dogs. read more

I am reviewing the dog "park" (run would be a better word) that's open during the winter: it's dreadful. Clearly the winter dog run was an after-thought to the spring/summer season dog park, with isn't accessible. The run is narrow and not very long (think a thin rectangle shape), and therefore could be overcrowded with geez, maybe 2-3 large or giant dogs. It seems like it's better suited for chickens to run in vs. dogs! There is a trash can and poop bags available, but no water available, no places to sit, and no other features or amenities. The cover is a very thin layer of bark with a tarp underneath. You can see in several places where the bark has been dug away exposing the tarp. Not that any dog park is going to be sanitary per say, but having such a thin layer of bark with the tarp just traps urine (and potentially feces) left behind in frozen pools vs. the bark absorbing the urine. The park does seem to have a very nice walking trail, which it looks like all of the local dog owners use instead of the dog run. Definitely don't come here for the dog park in the winter. PCC Rock Creek is a superior bark covered winter dog park - has water available, is significantly larger, also has access to nice walking trails, and has many dogs that visit each day. read more

WARNING We been taking or small dogs to Thatcher dog park for close to a year. Last time the big dog area was upgraded, new grass, people thought nothing to take their big aggressive dogs to the small area. Despite me asking if their dogs were friendly, and their owners answering "Oh yes, very friendly" or dogs were attacked along with another puppy. These people know that their dogs are aggressive and they can't control their dogs and still expose them to public areas. This morning, Sunday 8/18/2019 at approximately 11:10 am we took our dogs again after a period of absence of healing for our dogs to the dog park and there is a woman that took over the entire area of the small dog park with a very aggressive dog. To her credit, she warned us before getting in but she could not control her dog, my dogs were nearly attack again if it wasn't for our instincts and we quickly left as we heard her say she was using the park because nobody was there. The signs are clearly posted "Timid small dogs" but it is obvious that some people do not know how to read, care about their neighbors and just simply don't give a dam. I realize that there is not much anyone can do to change people and make them care. Perhaps there are city ordinances in respect of violating city policy or maybe there are none, just be warned. We feel that we can't use the facilities anymore for our dogs' and our safety. I am sure no one patrols the area to enforce the policies and that is why people get away with what they are doing. read more

Nice job, overall! Yeah for boy scouts who made this dog park happen! I think they thought of most everything & no bad experiences so am happy with this dog park. The details: This is a good dog park!! The main issue is that there are decent gaps under PARTS of the fence in the little dog section which would definitely be a problem for chihuahuas, other small dogs. There is also the ability for a small dog to dig under the fence easily and get out. Mine can't get out, though, so I am okay. Note that they do not have those gaps at all in the big dog section. Update: As of June 2011. New automatic dog watering dishes!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are awesome! Thank you for listening and modifying! Perfect size, perfect for the need! (see photo I uploaded) There is a walk-on-bark path in the big dog section, but not in the little dog section, but little dog section is sloped, also. Then again?? The little dog section does not suffer from water run off. The "Winter Section" has walk on bark all over it, and it is long which is good for chasing the ball which we do a lot of. It has fabulous lights over it, unlike the rest of the park. I have heard it can get pretty dark. Bring your own plastic bags (there are huge signs everywhere stating that). So far, I have not seen people not pick up after their dogs. I read that some people donate bags at this park so TODAY there were some bags posted near the trash cans but this is not in the budget from what I read. Always bring your own bags! They have home-grade gates for the dog sections. I can never tell which gate swings out. I really hope they budget to upgrade to solid cyclone style gates. I know! I know! Everything costs money. They have one picnic table in the little section, one picnic table in the big dog section. Have garbage cans for trash and dog waste INSIDE the dog sections. Overall? A really nice job. I hope improvements will continue. (I studied their work. I think they started w/ little section, made a mistake on fence reaching the ground, learned from mistake & did it right in big & winter section. I would love to see fence repositioned lower in little dog section, identical to everywhere else, then little dogs can't get out. Might have to put something at the bottom where the gaps are due to how fence was put together, but still....not a huge, expensive fix. Once that is done my review will immediately go to 5 stars! This dog park is one of the better ones in Oregon. While it isn't the largest, it has large areas for both small/timid dogs and the bigger dogs, which is nice. They have some ability/play equipment for the pups in both areas which is very fun! There's water and bags. They have a very small winter area that I wish they would expand somehow! That's the only drawback with this park. I only visit in the summer because of this, but unlike Hondo, the off leash area is part of a city park and therefore has a large parking lot. The people who come here seem to always be very friendly and that's nice to look forward to! It's definitely a less trafficked park than Hondo or Tabor. Love this park during the summer months! This is such a great dog park!! I'm so thankful to live so close!! There are two separated enclosed areas for large and small dogs. There are buckets in each cage that the community generously contributes grocery bags for dog bags in case you forget yours. They also have water available during good weather months. There are some owners that bring their little dog into the big dog area. (Guilty!) but my dog was raised with big dogs and prefers them. However, typical people their dogs are friendly and they really aren't. You can't stop them so this park allows others to go to the other enclosure so you can still exercise your dog safely. read more

Well this was my first time going to this park today and it may be awhile before I return if ever. Within 5 minutes of getting there I noticed a couple making out near the entrance of the big dog area. Now I am fine with a little PDA but this was gross. The nasty long fake blonde haired girl and her boyfriend or whatever he was we're totally ridiculous- no one wants to see that. Because they weren't paying attention to the two mean dogs they brought as soon as my lab and I entered the dog area one of her large long haired mountain dog type breeds came over and started to attack and pin down my female lab who was on a leash so she couldn't defend herself that well. I yelled at the dog and had to put my body between them. Mind you I have one arm casted currently. She finally stopped sucking face and came over for her dog who she said she would "put away" only to put him in another area that basically prevented anyone else from using. Another dog owner was there and disgusted also. We ended on a good note by hitting the trails briefly and overall my dog was happy. She does have a bloody scratch under her eye. It really pisses me off when people are so oblivious to social etiquette. I hope I never see her there again because I will make sure everyone knows her dog is aggressive and she clearly doesn't care. Also the winter months are causing large holes and mud. Dogs can easily get injured in these ruts when running for tennis balls. read more

Too many large holes dug that haven't been filled in could easily break a dog or human leg. Tons of used toys left behind as well. Doesn't seem as busy as Hondo but still a safety hazard to dogs. Needs to be better maintained. read more

This is a really nice dog park. The large dog area has an exercise course which is super fun to play with. The only negative is that other dog owners don't read the rules. When we got to the park there were small dogs in the large dog area and they had toys which is also against the rules. read more

The dog park is nice, but the dogs/owners that attend are not so much. My dog was attacked by a vicious pitbull mix and the owner did nothing to help. I had to run from the other side of the park and my wife watched in shock as our dog was in the jaws of this vicious animal being thrown around like a rag doll. Since the irresponsible and moronic owner was so unhelpful I had to myself run and pry the other dog's jaws open to remove by bloodied dog from it's grip. We had to rush to the Tanasbourne Emergency Vet (which I do recommend). $700 and 10 stitches later our dog will survive (baring infection) but the image of him almost dying at the hands of a horrible dog owner (I don't necessarily blame the dog and will keep my opinion of pitbulls to myself) I will not go back to this park. Everyone there said it never happens there, but nothing ever happens until it does and if you see a middle-aged white man about 5'10" with dark hair with a brown black mottled pitbull mix I would report him to the authorities and keep your pets and young children away. read more

This is a great dog park and thank you Boy Scouts for making it all possible. There is room for improvement though but it's not even a year old yet so that makes sense. The winter area could use a water spigot like the summer areas have. People have to bring in their own water which is a pain and most people don't bring it so sometimes we run out. The city is working with the dog park users to bring in bark so it can be spread around by volunteers. It seems to be helping. There is a Facebook page you can join called: Friends of the Forest Grove Dog Park. They are trying to get organized so they can run some events at the park. That would be totally cool. The group should help in getting volunteers to help keep the park in great shape. Nice people that come here with great dogs. Usually there are no problems but occasionally there is a bully that can get aggressive. My dogs haven't had any problems yet and I've met some wonderful friends there. read more

Been here numerous times but definitely will NOT go back. The place started out pretty nice but has rapidly gone downhill over the past year. While some owners are friendly and responsible, too many are not. Both I and others I know have had issues with aggressive dogs that seemed to be happening with increasing regularity. Then last week my dog was viciously attacked by a pitbull. My dog required an expensive emergency vet visit. Vet said that my dog was "very lucky" but he was sad to say that this isn't the first time this has happened at Thatcher Park. While waiting on our best friend to be patched up, we called Forest Grove PD to report the dangerous dog attack and were treated very poorly. We were told that that they wouldn't even attempt to go to the park to see if the dangerous dog was still in the area. This is scary when you consider that this dog even came after us as we were trying to leave the dog park. Hopefully, in the future, no dog or person is killed due to the FG PD's lack of concern. As for the park itself, it is clearly suffering from a lack of maintenance. The main area was a sloppy mess (think giant mud hole) this winter while the "winter" park area was never once opened. Go figure. The agility equipment is now falling apart. There is no longer water available for the dogs. No one seems to be concerned with picking up their dog's poop anymore. The park is overrun with weeds. Also the quality of dog owners has changed quite a bit recently. I guess the good, responsible owners are staying home these days because the place is overrun with overly aggressive dogs as well as small children (toddlers) who roam freely while their oblivious parents stand around and smoke. None of this terribly surprising however especially if you are familiar with the large redneck population of Forest Grove. My family actually tried to get involved to help improve the park but our experiences have just left a sour taste in our mouths. read more
