Car Doc was within my 5 AAA miles to be towed to, and open! I was ecstatic to find out he was also open on Sunday, so I would get a diagnostic the next day. Alas, it was a major repair (replace my engine), and costly as well, but Subbu walked me thru everything. I still don't trust car repair places (long story but I was bamboozled twice in the past) so I don't just jump in and say yes. My brother's friend owns a collision place, so he checked with his colleagues on Subbu & Car Doc. He has a solid rep with those in the business, and the prices he quoted me were fair/spot-on/industry standard. After hearing this, I went ahead with the engine replacement, and Subbu did it within a week (I had a free loaner, so I told him no rush). He kept me informed of minor tweaks he had to make while re-installing the engine, and also coached me on what to look for after picking up my car - minor leaks and such. I did have a minor leak of fluid of some sort, and Subbu told me to bring it back in and he'd look at it. The Utica location is the absolute best one of them all in SE Michigan in my opinion. The staff is professional and courteous and they continue their MO of only providing the services you want and need without "finding" any issues with your vehicle. The staff is honest and the mechanics perform excellent service. I've had several services performed on my 25 year old car and it still runs smoothly. I've tried other locations in the past and the service just isn't the same. For the past few years, I've been devoted to this one in Utica. Less than 20,000 miles later they needed to be replaced. I called the shop to inquire on additional warranty on my account per the previous employee that sold them to me and was told it was past the two year warranty and that they would not honor it. I was told that the former employee no longer works there, and that I could come by to see if they "really needed" to be replaced. At the same time my brakes were done (3 years ago) my fiancé had his replaced and the car had to be brought back due to the brakes being bad within a month. The employee (at the time) who had also sold me brakes for my car had blamed the faulty brakes on the supplier. Unfortunately due to past experiences with this shop I would not/do not trust their work with brakes. I declined to return to this shop to even have my brakes looked at due to my fiancé and I's history with this shop and instead went elsewhere where I was actually brought back to the bay to look at my faulty brakes. I would suggest others do the same and go elsewhere for service.
